Group Hunt

OOC: Let the hunt begin! (+3)

It was early morning, just before dawn, in the Fort of Casa Di Cavalieri. Soft wisps of cloud curled high in the lightning blue sky, stars still visible in the blanket of darkness above. The air was still as if there was no wind at all in the pack's camp, it was warm and mildly humid that summer's day. The birds were just waking and stretching there limbs in the sparce trees littered in and around the fort. Their melodies reached the tall wolf's ears as she made her way to find the labor head for an inquiry of hers.

Khyren was in her bipedal form at that time, her hair/mane combed forward over her left eye and curling under her chin - spiking out ruggedly. She wore her rank cloak of the Bracciante class, lined with rabbits fur on the collar. It was a suitable fit, even though the cloak itself barely made it right above her knees, it was comfortable, but she missed her bear skin kimono. Her wounds had fully healed from the impact of the meteor and the events that had followed, though her ribs stop ached from time to time. In the darkness she looked like a shadow, silently waking, her coal-black pelt blending in smoothly with her surroundings even as the sun began to rise from its den bellow the sea. The female's emerald-green gaze shone out like fireflies as she spotted Lyris Styder and quickened her pace to close the gap between them before they could speak to one another.

Looking down at Lyris she smiled, keeping her hands at her side as she spoke, almost emotionless - out of habit. "Hey, Lyris, can I talk to you for a moment? I was wondering if maybe we can organize a hunting party. The stock of fresh meat has not been so high as of late, and I think the pack could definitely use more food to add to the stocks." Khyren inquired. Her semi-deep voice smooth and calm with a hint of a faded Russian accent, hidden, but noticeable. She asked this because she knew the camp was still recovering from the disaster that seemed to have happened yesterday, yet, it was quite a few moons ago. Some fresh meat would with no doubt help the camp get its strengths up if anything, and everyone would be happy for a nice, juicy dinner.

She'd risen before the sun. Her cottage had been silent in the soft black of morning, family still wrapped in their waves of sleep, undisturbed until the light nudged them to wakefulness. Lyris had slid from the sheets and into the cold stillness of her room, and with all the silence of absence left Luca to slumber for hours more. She did not clothe herself with her simple dagger and armband that morning, nor her cougar-lined cloak, though she walked on two feet. Her destination was the stables, and she arrived to them in the first gray streaks of morn. The Cavallo tended to the horses as the sun crept, opening the stable doors wide as each individual gate so that the beasts could wander into the cascade of green that was the Fort, another day to pass. The Stryder stocked the animal's fresh water and then turned her sights to Sylvie's horse, a deft tenderness in her fingers as she greeted the heavily pregnant mare. Nevada's foal would be due within the month coming, and Lyris had not neglected her a moment in the final stages of her gestation. Her chestnut structure wide, she moved little, though still could not turn down a grazing over the Fort's green grasses. When the first of her duties had been done, the mother left her charge, giving herself back to the light of the newly-risen sun. She had not walked but for a heartbeat when a towering, dark form required her attention. Lyris flickered her jade gaze up to Khyren, ears sharp. The archer stopped and listened, arms folding to their familiar cross against the pale's woman chest that was her common posture.

The Mani had not missed the apparent low stock of prey in the pack's store; it was not decidedly sparse, but far from abundant, as the pack's usual hunters were recently occupied or otherwise could bring little more home than rabbits with only their own four feet. The pale mother had been planning to partake of a hunt when time would allow, and it seemed such an opportunity had presented itself. "It is not a bad idea." The Mani agreed, and then promptly lifted her nose to the sky, calling a short song over the scape of Kingsbury. She asked for hunters, and then turned her sights back to the taller woman. "Lead the way, Khyren. We will follow." Lyris' eyes glittered with a gem of mischievousness; as, yes, it was odd she would delegate a Bracciante for such a lead, but as a Labor Head, the woman took heart in knowing her knights well. She had yet to identify this dark-furred woman's talents or mannerisms, and now was as good as ever. She would observe while she ran.

OOC: Atalanta is in Lupus form and waiting for them just outside the Fort. :>
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Outside the walls of the fort, a hunter drank from the stream near a little hollow. Atalanta kept hours that a “civilized” canine might find odd, but that made sense for the natural circadian rhythms of a wolf. She’d been awake for some hours in the predawn, loping through her familiar forest trails and sniffing out game, but she’d yet to find anything worth catching other than a very young rabbit that fueled her now.

Thirst slaked, she yawned and licked droplets of water from her whiskers before the howl echoed almost eerily from the walls of the fort. It was a short call, and its meaning was old as time: a hunt was being called.

Atalanta threw her head up and bark-howled in response, eager and almost playful in her tone. She rarely had the chance to hunt with others as a loner, relying on her arrows and her four paws to fetch enough quarry to survive, but the tug of the old ways was strong. She padded toward the gate and waved her tail in expectation for the other hunters to emerge.

Underground the scent of earth was strongest and it calmed Veyra’s ever-spinning mind. With sunrise she had stirred, her hormones urging her into action. She recently had come to the realization that her and Callum’s night of mating had indeed led to a new litter. Physically little about the huntress had changed, though her stomach was beginning to show it was not outwardly obvious to those who did not pay close attention. However, hormones had already begun to mess with Veyra’s emotions. For the first time in a long time she found herself craving attention and feeling quite pleasant to the point where the normally quiet wolfess had caught herself humming to herself on more than one occasion.

Currently, her hormones were willing her to dig. Callum had already so graciously provided her with a small den under the house he had claimed, but the expecting mother was drawn to make a second birthing den attached to the already formed area. Her last den had not included a separate birthing space and her boys had stumbled their ways out of the den one to many times. A call to hunt was dampened by soil by caught by her attentive ears, and she froze in her spot. For a moment she debated what Callum would say about her joining in a hunt knowing her condition. Ultimately her growling stomach won and she exited the den, releasing a bark of acknowledgment into the air as she searched for the source.

The tall wolf was thankful that Lyris understood her request for a hunting party to be set out. What suprised her was the fact that the pale woman requested/ordered that she would be the one to lead the patrol of Cavaliers to hunt. Her eyes widdened and she raised a brow, taken aback by the labor heads request of her. She figured that it was logical that the higher ranked wolf was to order Khyren to lead a patrol of Knights, since it was her idea to do so. Khyren just didn't expect it, but maybe it was a good thing. This would be the perfect oppertunity for her to get to know some of the lack better, including Lyris herself, and for others to get to know Khyren better. As her abitious side kicked into head she also saw that this would be a good idea to show off any leadership skills she had and to improve on them.

Running her claws through her short mane on the back of her neck she responded to Lyris, "Well, alright" She smiled a little, and put her arms back at her side, Khyren dare not refuse such an offer from the higher ranked individual. Then she stood up a little straighter. "I'll do my best to help."

Since Lyris had howled, the black pelted laborer realized they had to be getting to the fort entrance to meet up with who ever would be joining the hunting party. She thought for a moment before she spoke. "Lets head to the entrance then." Dipping her head slightly to Lyris as Khyren spoke, the Bracciante then walked semi-confidently towards the entrance. Hopeing Lyris would follow.

On the way she thought about different ways they could hunt depending on how many canines showed up for the hunting party. If they were only a few, they problebly could do a simple distraction trap as a few canines lay in wait as a few more spooked the prey right into waiting jaws. She didn't know many ways they could hunt together with a large group though, since she had spent most of her life alone or hunted with one or two people at a time.

Thinking to herself she realized she should participate in more pack activities to help out so she could learn more and be more social other then at the parties or with a few people individually. Then she started to think about what might happen if someone got hurt on the hunt, it would be her fault as she would have ordered that canine into that situation. Calming herself, and relaxed her body and mind so not to let those negative thoughts consume her and decided that once she got the hunting party situated, Khyren would work out those things with them as she began to scent more canines ahead.

Lyris had, in fact, ditched her routine morning hunt in favor of tending to the horses; most specifically, Nevada's tender state. As was not rare for the huntress, she felt a humming in her blood, just on the edge of her understanding. Like an unreachable itch- too minor to cause distress, too clear to cause comfort- her body yearned for physical movement and a drive to be. So at Khyren's offering, Lyris thought she could practically feel the blood stutter under her skin in attraction to the race that was soon to be. Ordering Khyren without a single fog of hesitation- Lyris was not having a difficult time adjusting to her ranking- seemed to bring the dark-furred woman some surprise. Though quickly after the Labor Head noted that the Cavalier seemed to rise to the challenge, and Lyris offered her a brief smirk of satisfaction. Nodding at her comment about doing her best- it was what Lyris always expected- she followed her movement towards Casa's gates.

As Lyris moved, apparently soundless despite white toes and their crushing of grass, the mother began her shift. The Mani's core of balance was moved and within several seconds she was postured on four limbs and striding with silent confidence in her Lupus skin, no detectable disturbance in her gait. Bringing herself to walk at Khyren's right hand, the Stryder and her recent companion left the confines of Kingsbury to the sloping territory of nearby Sugarwoods, which was dotted with a pair of friendly faces. Lyris brushed muzzles with Atalanta and Veyra, pleased to use Lupus gestures that were normally misunderstood by those so lovingly attached to their Optime figures. "Veyra, Atalanta. Khyren is leading us in a hunt." With a movement of her tail and ears, the huntress moved her attention, once again, to the temporary leader. "Let's run, Khyren." The meaning was clear; Khyren would guide them in their race, and hopefully had an ideal location in mind where a herd was readily available for their disturbance.

Others met her at the gate, the dark striding form of Khyren, with white-furred and strong Lyris at her side. Veyra, the huntress that Ata had practiced archery with before, had also turned up, and Atalanta wagged her tail at them all.

She nuzzled her head against Lyris when the woman stretched her snout out to greet the pair of hunters, a respectful lick delivered to her chin. It was the feral way of things, submissive and friendly – but Atalanta, for her civilized origins, respected the way of the old wolves, the simple hunters. She was in touch with that side and was glad that she’d fallen in with more of the same.

“Artemis bless our feet and fangs,” the wolfdog said, shaking out her coat and padding forward in preparation to run after Khyren.
