I am the shadow on the wall

[+300] • Just a note for myself. Going to use this thread as my stack for co-rank and drakehund. Come help Zuri explore and get some new bats.

Progress had been a bit slower than she would have liked, but it wasn't like such a thing could be avoided. Zansa and Zelda had to take priority when it came to her daily routine. Her children were still growing, and it would still be a week or so before the pups would be able to move around the territory with their parents. Baelish had been doing wonders in helping the girls to get used to the taste of meat, as they had grown out of their milking phase.

It was nice to be getting some more rest and movement rather than laying around to have to feed her children six times a day. Despite the annoyance, she cared for both her daughters, and no doubt her husband felt the same.

Offering to be the one to watch over the pups, she had taken out a bit later in the evening. As the pale woman made her way past the entranceway, she was greeted by the larger of her two bats, landing gently along her shoulder. A smile formed over her face as she moved two fingers up, gracing them gently along his furry body.

There had been a small point of interest for the Hawkesond woman. With her sticking so close to home, the Tuscany Gardens on the edge of Winterwynd had made themselves known to her. Even more striking than that was the grotto that rested within the gardens. It would be the perfect place for someone like her to go exploring. Her paws carried her in the right direction, soon coming to the remains of the place that once stood here.

Zuri paced over to the grotto, Alexandros having taken to the cave wall as she entered its mouth. There were statues along the walls, though most hidden by the already natural structures. Crimson gaze turned up towards the ceiling, her eyes trying to pick out anything that might be lingering in here.

Loving his small family did not mean that there weren’t days he was annoyed with them and wanted to get away. More accurately, run away because he was in a whole lot of trouble, over what he couldn’t remember, but it was bad and he really, really didn’t want to get told off and grounded just yet, so with all of his amazing logic he’d decided that running away would buy him some time before the inevitable yelling and getting housebound.

Running away had quickly morphed into adventure time, the youth forgetting why he was outside of the house and the limitations his mother set on wondering - tired as he was, his legs kept carrying him and before he could wisen up and head back to terrain he knew better, statues surrounded him, broken and hard to make sense off, the lined the path of an overgrown and wild looking garden.

Preoccupied with the sheer grandeur and creepiness of the statues, the pond was a surprise - the instant one paw came in contact with the rancid water, he shot up in the air, screaming at the top of his lungs before running forward blindly into the depths of the grotto, only to be swallowed by the darkness that lay within, fear freezing him to the spot.

There he sat, silent until a sound had his head snapping up, a whimper escaping him and legs propelling him backward until he felt something solid there, giving him some semblance of protection.

Mighty and brave explorer he was not. He would much rather have just stayed home and gotten himself yelled at.

[+200] • Thank you for joining Kitty.

Zuri had heard the scream as she was coming towards the entrance of the grotto, but saw no one in passing that had made the noise. Perhaps someone else had already found the source. Still, she was not about to dismiss it entirely. There was still so much of this territory that even she didn't know about, this place being one of those unknowns. Had there been someone in trouble, she had to be alert on what was around her because of it.

It was the feeling of wet fur gracing along her legs that made her gaze turn down. She had come across the more rambunctious of the two siblings before in her passing, but not the one that seemed to have more sense. Then again, it was a bit hard to say. She had not had the chance to see Saga's boys aside from their visit to her home.

"Caspar. Does your mother know you are here?"

Of course she would ask the same thing she asked of the other sibling.

Feeling the water dripping down her leg, the pale woman knelt down near the pup, reaching around to take the ruffled bit of her dress, working to dry off the pup. Doing something like this to her nice clothing back home would have been unheard of, but then again, she wasn't back home. This was her home now, and no doubt it would not do the young one any good to be wandering around in the cave with water covering his fur.

Moving her dress back into place, Zuri peered up to the bat watching over both of them before turning her attention back onto Caspar, "That better?"

Ears flicking back at the questions – because the impending threat of his mother knowing he’d done something dumb outweighed any fear over his current predicament – the youth peered up at the pale female, toying for a viable explanation and coming up short; a distraction was needed. Unfortunately, this female wasn’t a complete stranger to him, recognition flickering through him as he saw the pale tones, her scent had long since told him that he was with a pack mate. If it had been someone new to the pack, then he could only hope they wouldn’t know who his mum was.

Then again, if it had been a stranger they wouldn’t have called him by name, nor jumped straight to the conclusion he was out without his mother’s knowledge. Oh, he was so busted. With no lie coming to mind that would save him from the impending doom that was his mother, the youth opted for a distraction instead.

Before he could even open his mouth, the female helped clean him up, the youth butting his head up towards in a show of gratitude, tail uncurling and beginning to wag as he found his confidence once again.

“What you doing here? This place not fun.” Understatement of the year, because this place was dark, damp and scary, but the albino was not one who he could imagine seeking him out personally, so that meant something else had brought her here, right?

That or his mum was really, really angry and getting the pack involved, a situation he was really hoping wasn’t the case.

The silence in the pup told her everything she needed to know. It seemed both of Saga's children had a case of wandering off away from her. Given their age, it probably was at a point in their lives when they would want to see more of the Vale, but the black and white woman was not the kind to be more lax with her parenting. Considering the way that their conversations normally went, and her attentiveness, it was safe to assume that the woman was serious in nature, and certainly the contrast to her fun brother.

Even so, it was nice to see that the boy was getting some of his confidence back now that she was tending to him. She could feel the way that his head was moving against her own as well as the dress, but even better was to see the wag in his tail. That was something pups should be doing.

The pale woman was quick to bring herself back up onto her feet, turning her crimson gaze down on the boy as he spoke again. This place was not fun hmm? A grin curled across her lips as she padded a bit further into the cave, "That is a matter of opinion. This is the perfect place for someone like me. I feel at home in the darkness."

She gave a small pause before kneeling back down in front of Caspar, "And it is the perfect place to find what I am looking for. There are these small winged animals called 'bats'. I'm trying to find more of them to bring back home." Her eyes peered up to the small figure of Alexandros hanging from the ceiling, giving a small screech to the two before moving deeper in.

“Humph, darkness is scary. Big monster, eat puppies. Daniel said so,” at least he thought it was his brother who had filled his head with horror stories of vicious monsters that lay in wait, hoping a stray puppy would wander by close enough for it to gobble the unsuspecting child up. His imagination had no doubt added to the tale since it had been passed on to him, yet he was sure it was his brother or at least his brother was there when he’d learned that darkness was not a safe place for puppies.

Didn’t stop him wondering in though, for that would imply he had ‘common sense’ as his mother liked to say, along with ‘self-preservation’ – the last one he wasn’t too sure on, but sense… well. To enter a place he found scary because of a blunder of mistakes didn’t exactly give him a leg to stand on when defending his lacking intellect.

Yet, Zuri came here for a reason; strange wing creatures she named as bats, which sounded cute. Surely if someone wanted them as pets, they had to be cute and friendly, right?

“I can help you looks? Why you want? What the look like, ‘part from da wings?” already his imagination was running away from him, imaging cute, fluffy pink things, that wanted to be cuddled and sleep with him, keeping him warm.

Darkness was scary, and there were monsters lurking in it to eat puppies. How nice it must have been to be an innocent child. And to think that Daniel had been the one to make up this lie. Guess it made sense with how much more outgoing the pup was, but this one seemed more wary of the things around him. No doubt the other sibling was just trying to get something out of him.

She gave a small smile, "You don't need to worry about any monsters. They should be scared of me then. I'll keep you safe, just stick close to me."

Their conversation moved on, the pale woman explaining her motives for coming here in the first place. It was nice that the young pup wanted to help her out, but had no idea what he was looking for. Curious that he had not followed her gaze up to see the bat that was hanging just above them, but perhaps the screech was too low for his ears to pick up. A shame, but there was no harm on keeping him informed. Her hands moved up as she began to explain, "They have small furry bodies and pointed wings. Their wings aren't like birds though. There are no feathers. They have large ears, a much more pointed face, and fangs."

She stood up again, motioning for the tan boy to come follow along with her.

Upright ear moved about the cave, catching the screeching of the larger bat further in. Eyes peered up more towards the ceiling, doing her best to let her eyes adjust to the darkness. Reaching down, she pat the boy before pointing above them, "Can you see them? There on the rocks. Those are bats. Think you can help me catch one or two? I'd just need you to make some noise to help them come this way."
