Lyris turned, white tail flicking against her heels as she moved her body between the trees. In the old territory, she knew ever leaf and every little pond like the feathers on her arrows, but now, it was as unfamiliar as the depths of the sea. The smell was just that- salty and fishy, like the ocean not too far off. She didn’t mind it. In fact, she much preferred it. With a looming mountain on one side and open forest on the other, she felt lopsided. Here, between tree ridge and wide ocean, she felt concealed, and much more balanced. It was still something to get used to, but the girl was already learning her way around. She knew a couple of paths to where the barn was to be constructed and to the gathering place the meeting had been held at, but she was on a particular mission. She needed to find food.

White on the green backdrop, she moved, inhaling deeply to pinpoint the scent of certain cougar. X’yrin had instructed her she must track down decent game for the upcoming pack hunt, whatever was closest to the new territory. And in the process, find some rich places for hunting, as well. They needed to take note of their new resources. Lyris was curious enough, and this was just the opportunity for her to explore. But X’yrin had told her she should bring somebody along. The pale wolfess knew just the cat. Ki’som had felt detached, in a way, from the family- all because he was not in the same skin as them. She needed to fix that. He was part of them now, weather he liked it or not.

“Ki’somma.” She barked, somewhat softly, into the trees. She’d managed to somewhat track the cat’s scent, and could feel him close by.

(WC) — OOC goes here.

Bright fireflies, gray of color in the upside down world Ki’som found himself in. All he could hear was the slight buzz of the insects as they passed by his ears, and he was forced to flick them in agitation. Everything in the world was gray, devoid of color that he once knew of before he fell asleep under the night stars. The trees and leaves swayed back in forth as if wind were coursing through each crevice it could find in the high canopy. The cat found himself here every time he fell asleep, and he could never tell whether the silent wind was more disturbing than the fact that he couldn’t feel it either. Yet no chill traveled down his spine, as the very silence made him feel at peace, in this shadow world he called a dream. Eventually the forest opened up into a more vast land, the one he called a concrete jungle of Boston, or so the wolves he once knew called it. Buildings overgrown with vines and trees stuck out from the ground, forcing their way through the black pavement. Buildings seemed to stand idle, as if still waiting for the many humans that once lived here to return, and keep them from being overwhelmed by Mother Nature. Ki’soms pads on the bottom of his feet felt at home, and the thought of scaling one of the many large towers to reach the heaven’s crossed his mind more than once. Anticipation to one day do so grew within his arms, and made him hyper, yet the cat continued on, to worlds un-end, the rusted cars of what was, the only thing standing between him, and the beyond.

“Ki’somma!” his name rang in his ears. “No” Ki’som muttered, still under the spell of sleep. His dreams always ended at this one part, before he could even reach the base of heaven’s tower. It couldn’t end here! He couldn’t allow it to end here! But the edges of Ki’soms vision already started to fade into white, until finally he could see no more.

The Lion’s eyes opened to a much brighter and colorful world. The wind, he could now feel, and the leaves lush and full of color and sound he was devoid of in his dream. Ki’som let out a low growl, as finally he was back in reality, in the new land Sangi’lak now called home. High amongst the trees the cat was, and he slowly lifted himself up from his branch, blinking, then giving a quick shake to his body before continuing to wash his face. The cat for once had the urge to roar out in anger for the dream he was just deprived of, but he suppressed it quickly as he remembered. That was Lyris’s voice, the White wolf of Sangi’lak… the one with the bow.

Even though Lyris was of the family, and she would possibly never do anything to harm the large feline, the bow and arrows she usually carried, and the deadly accuracy she possessed with her made his spine tingle with raising hairs. Not giving much thought to his personal hygiene, Ki’som stopped what he was doing to look down, his eyes piercing every corner and crevice that the White wolf could be hiding in, until a white blotch caught his eye, or more so the entire wolf herself, as she wasn’t attempting to hide at all. Licking his fangs from the side of his mouth, the cat prepared, and jumped down from branch to branch, making as little noise as the creaking branches would allow. Stopping midway, in a place among the trees where the hunter could see him, he let out a cry in the feline tongue.

“Lyris” the large cat said, acknowledging the white phantom of her presence

The scar across her face carved ridges into her flesh, familiar and unfamiliar alike, as the deep crevices of the mountains or soft waves of the river. Profile illuminated in a dapple of the golden sun’s rays, dark eyes moved, curiously eyeing the trees above, listening as the rush of the wind caused her tall ears to twitch. The light of her eye watched a leaf, wounded by the feeding of animals, broke and fluttered from the tree, twisting in a sad dance as it fell. It signaled something in the tree had disturbed it- no matter how small. Hunter’s instincts appeared, and the girl moved her jaw up, catching the toffee-hued fur of the cougar as he silently moved from branch to branch. It intrigued her- how could a creature so strong and heavy with muscle manage to tread so lightly along thin branches? She supposed that was one of the species’ many traits- stealth, just as the Luperci had their own set of abilities.

A long soft tail flicked against heels, slender figure taking a few tender steps back so that she could set eyes upon the male without straining her neck so far. She parted her jaws to explain her presence. “X’yrin requested me to scout the new territory for prey for the pack hunt coming up. But I certainly can’t do it alone.” The young woman spoke, tipping her head before continuing. “You’re going to help me.” She said, not giving the mountain lion a choice. He needed to stop hanging around in the trees all day and being isolated, and start to become a member of Sangi’lak. He could just very well walk out of the pack lands and never return, but he didn’t. It was a sign Lyris took as he had reasons to stay here, no matter how small. The same went for Lyris. Sangi’lak was her family, because her own was dead.

The white Lupus turned, looking quietly over her shoulder, moving her head in a motion for him to follow. Once the cat had found solid earth, she spoke again. “There’s a river… Tyne river, I think it’s called. Any game will be close to water. Let’s check there first.”

(338) — OOC goes here.

Scout? What need did the wolves have to scout? Though the reasoning behind such a task was clear, Ki’som was still half asleep to fully understand that the wolves were not of the layed back nature as he was. And neither was the large cat, as he was usually more proactive then some wolves and dogs might think themselves. Blinking weary eyes, and flicking his own ears to catch the sun’s rays off his silver studs, the cat leaned backwards to let out a silent yawn. What makes you think I want to go? But as quick as the words left his mouth, the cat found himself alone, looking back over to where the white image was. It took a few moments for the feline to realize Lyris just completely ignored him! A low and agitated growl escaped the lion’s lips, and he forced himself down from his beloved tree.

It always felt abnormal to the large cat to hit the solid, pine-needle covered ground below each time he awoke to hunt. Soft patches of soil cooled his padded feet which held the feeling of hard bark all the night before, and the slight chill energized his will to stay awake. HEY! Ki’som roared, his eyes still beaming at the white hunter, who still had her tail to him. Yet again ignored, the cougar trotted after the female, still convinced he was going to come back to take his week-long nap. Only after the explanation of some river, did the lion grow a vein on his forehead in annoyance. The only thing that was keeping his mouth shut, was the thought of an arrow whistling towards him.

Do you wolves not just simply do this when you’re hungry? The land is obviously filled with game we can track. We wouldn’t have moved here otherwise, right? The large cat finally caught up with the Phantom, and he was careful to keep his steps as light as hers amongst the leaves and twigs that could so easily give them away.

Lyris moved her dark gaze to the sky, catching the underside of a bright wing before it vanished into the leaves again. The birds were abundant here, but she more commonly saw the white plumage of seagulls. Seemed legitimate, for they were closer to the ocean here. Lyris quite enjoyed the quiet lull of the waves, even the tangy smell on her fur. Others might find it strong and overpowering to smell sea spray, but Lyris cared as little about her appearance as a pup did. Smell was something more valuable to her.

It wasn’t too long before she heard the cougar’s heavy paws hit the ground, and soon after a rambling of words. She slowed her already low pace, ears twitching only a bit to show she heard him. Quickly after her ears flagged away as a roar of annoyance and frustrated attacked her, and now she completely stopped, turning her head and narrowing her eyes darkly. She was sure the felines had different traditions and priorities- mayhaps sleeping was in a place above hunting .Either way, he would need to step up his game if he wanted to gain favor in the eyes of Lyris, and even more importantly, that of the shepherds. Her long tail fell just above the ground, flicking gently against her pale heels as she stood silently, a stern gaze in her eyes. She rose her ears tall, and lifted her tail from its hang, so that it was only slightly higher than her shins. It was a minor display of dominance, and perhaps he wouldn’t even notice, but there was surely a change in posture. “Do you cats simply sleep in the trees all day? We all feel hunger, some choose to track and remember where game is for easier hunting days again. Clearly, you prefer the system of restarting a new search every day. Yes, there is always game. But it’s vital that we find and remember the best places to find it, else we lose it and starve.” Lyris held the mountain lion’s toffee gaze for a moment longer, before looking forward again, and moving in the direction of the river. She didn’t know how he would react, but she had a feeling he wouldn’t question her. There was an almost wariness she picked up from Ki’Som, a wariness of her. Ever since he saw her hunting in the forest with her bow one day. Was he afraid? Or curious? Standing his ground? Either way, she didn’t feel the need to watch her back. The white Exalted bent around the trees, the smell of fresh water growing stronger with each silent step.

(277) — I feel your pain :( I'm not sure if you had a specific vision of the river Lyris was talking about, so I'm just gonna leave you to set the scenery. If you wanted me to do it, just let me know ;)

The cat froze in place just as Lyris did, and for the slightest second, Ki’som had to hold his breathe and heartbeat. The large cat did not expect such a reaction from the White Wolf, and neither did he expect the slight change in posture as she turned to him. Ki’som lived amongst wolves before, and the slightest change was that of dominance. Though not as much as the large cat would have ever considered offensive. He actually thought of it more of like a challenge, though the whistling arrow and the rabbit quickly dismissed the thought of accepting the fight. Fine, you’ve made your point. I’ll follow your lead. Ki’som said, apologetic, but the Lion’s gaze quickly turned cold to keep his eyes locked with Lyris’s. But don’t think for a second, that I’m doing this because you outrank me, or because you scared me into submission. I’m doing it because you came to me. Ki’somma’s tone was deep and laced with a bit of seriousness. Though not enough to sound threatening as he still got a bit of a chill from speaking to the Marksman.

It wasn’t long before the scent of fresh water hit Ki’som’s nose. The scent of moist earth and vegetation was a delight to savor as the Phantom and he got ever closer. The Lion kept his diligence, placing his feet where they wouldn’t make noise, and keeping a nice evened pace with the Exalted. The sound and flow of water nearby reminded the cougar that it had been a while since he stole himself a drink from the local springs. Maybe it wasn’t such a waste of time after all.

There was definitely something in the cat’s eyes. When she moved, he stopped, and tightened. Surprise? Fear? She looked deep for the latter, narrowing her eyes and scrutinizing what reaction he displayed. At first surprise, yes, then, something like determination, and maybe there was a glitter of fear there. So small, though, he hid it well. He mustn’t forget, she was the highest wolf here, behind Sequoia and X’yrin. Dominance was something she felt in her blood- she was the daughter of an alpha, even if her legacy and pack was dead. She had to stand for them, and she would start here. Her goal was not to become the highest and greatest- she did not want to rule. She just wanted respect. To be looked up to. Ki’somma’s reaction wasn’t pleasing, just calming. She wasn’t a total loss. Maybe she could grow to something more. This scouting mission was of importance, perhaps her first real help or duty to her pack.

When the cougar replied to her, letting it be known his reasons for compliance, the white wolf tipped her head, flicking an ear. She still stood tall, her tail hovering just barely above her paws, before she let it fall, and released a breath to lower her shoulders and inch. The display was gone, but it still glimmered in her eyes. A sort of agreement. She could work with that. “Of course, I would have thought nothing else.” She nodded, watching him for a moment longer, before turning and moving through the trees.

Sunlight broke as the moved out of the thick canopy into the thinner landscape, a ribbon of water cutting across the territory. It was rather calm today, flowing gently over rocks and between lush mosses that clung to the nearby dirt and sand. This was the girl’s first trip to the river, and it reminded her of their old home. The Suki’Aliqua felt like this. All rivers looked alike, but they had that same pale blue glow. Just right. With the cougar behind her, she moved forward and dipped her head for a drink, lapping the cool water gratefully as relief from the sun. Her fur may have been white, but that didn’t change the fact that it was very thick, and trapped body heat. Almost too much, sometimes.

Lyris lifted her head, drawing a tongue along her muzzle. She tasted salt. It was extremely faint, but still there. “It’s too salty here. The big game would be farther south, where the water is pure.” She said, glancing beside or behind her, depending if Ki’som had drank or not. Silently asking for his input, because this was a team effort, after all.

(633) — OOC goes here.

The Lion could faintly remember the sun, as he lived the past three days without it, hiding beneath the cool and not yet shedding leaves of the lush forest surround. Maybe yet a burden he laid before himself as Lyris and he broke through what bramble and thicket still covered their eyes. He had to squint his eyes to the point of it possibly cramping up if that sort of thing could happen, and gave a low growl as if he were a bear just coming out of hibernation. He took a few seconds to let his eyes adjust to the skies blessing of light, and took in the surrounding air, allowing the white phantom to go on ahead to the river which was only a few yards away. The soaking of the rays was defiantly comforting, if not, something undeserved, but he felt the heat pour through him, voluntary or not. A few more seconds passed before the cat lazily started to stride forward, and off the imaginary path Lyris carved herself getting to the river’s edge. The grass surrounding the two of them was starting to turn a light yellow given the change of season, and the cat wanted to make the best of it, his caramel pelt not as light, but not as obvious as pure white snow his current hunting partner wore.

This open area seemed to be almost dead in his eyes, besides the obvious sounds of scurrying rodent at his feet, and it was possible that the common quail that found these sorts of high grass places suitable homes were gone for the season. All that remained were the shed feathers and egg shells of the young that had grown and flown off for their own southern adventure, as did their parents the season before. Using the nearest boulder as a vantage point, Ki’som hopped upon it, barely poking his head up from the tall grass that still surrounded him. The ribbon of flowing water, the river bank, more tall grass and bramble, and the forest surround was all he could see. There weren’t even any indents in the tall grass to where a herd of buck, or deer could have trampled through, and the bank was defiantly too overgrown to house the creatures to where they can allow themselves drinking and rest. This was a dead end, as to what prey he and the phantom were looking for, there was none here to be found or tracked.

It didn’t take long to break through what tall grass he needed to get to the bank where Lyris was, Stopping on the left of her to break the news. She was finishing her drink as she lifted up her head, lapping up what water still clung to her lips with a quick lick. She noticed the problem as well, and the cat turned his eyes to the soft moving flow in front of him. No wonder why there wasn’t any herd trails around, it seemed they were too close north, too close to the sea for the water to be completely clean. Moving south as Lyris suggested made the most sense. ”Agreed” Ki’som spoke, allowing the female to know he was all for the idea. ”But there’s no telling when we will come across another flow of water clean as this if we just go south from here. We should follow this water upstream, and hope it stays within Sangi’laks claim when it turns pure.” The cat was following Lyris’s lead, and he wasn’t going to stop her from going south if she wanted to. His words were merely a second option, and he left the Exalted to ponder what action they should take as he took his own share of the slightly salted down water before them.
