Kirin the Feral Brother, was at ease with himself and the world around him for the first time in the better half of a year. Born to a pack in Alaska, he later made the life altering decision to leave them in order to pave a new trail with his own pawprints, to perhaps start his own pack and propagate his bloodline. Well, things had not quite gone as planned for the young adult, but at least now the derailed train that was his life was beginning to get back on track. After meeting a wild elder, Jace, he finally joined one of the great packs of this region, and was already settling well into pack life once again. He was finding his own way of fitting in even if he was a bit more wild than the average wolf in this pack.

And it was time to revel in the joys of another time honoured pack tradition... the hunt! For a year Kirin could only hunt small game. It was enough to feed his body but did little to nourish his soul. Even with the use of the well evolved Optime form a single wolf could not fell the larger game of Nova Scotia, so he had been reduced to feeding on the ground animals and vermin, perhaps the occasionally luckily snatched bird. Now, it was time for a glorious hunt once more.

Kirin flexed his paws, savoring the feeling of the grassy earth beneath his pads, inhaling deeply to enjoy the rich, earthy scent of the soil displaced by his claws. He stood in a clearing facing a line of trees. There was game in there, he could see the trail. Big game. It made his mouth water and a string of drool dripped from his parted jaws before his tongue lapped his mouth and he remembered to swallow.

The wolf could wait no more! He turned a howl to the heavens, asking anyone who wished to join in the hunt to come find him. Despite his natural proclivity towards dominance he didn't even care if someone more Alpha than he came, for he did not need to lead this hunt. His blood raced in his veins, he wanted to live this hunt.

A monochrome wolf stood tall and proud amongst the creatures of the dawn as the telltale colors of vermillion and pink which signaled sunrise burst over the peaks of the pines. The dawn was the time of change, a time when the night dwellers snaked back into their dens and burrows, and the diurnal animals woke and stretched and came out to bathe their backs in sunlight, embarking upon another day of vibrant life here in Casa di Cavalieri. Standing in a clearing where he could witness the spectacle, Kirin Rune's slate blue eyes slowly scanned the landscape to take in the impressive sight. The young wolf was feeling particularly optimistic and romantic about it all because after nearly a year of painful solitude, he finally belonged once more.

Many would consdider it still early morning when the wolf retreated from his perch, the sun now glowing brillianly in the eastern sky and warming the lands with its divine rays. Loping away from this place in nature, Kirin slipped into the trees to perform an act which was rather rare for him... he changed shape, shifting into his Optime form, because he had a need for it for once.

Ah, it has been too long, he thought to himself as he stretched his newly reformed body and popped his neck. He rarely shifted, he had no need for it, but the people here had so openly welcomed him into their home and amongst their ranks and he had to do something for them in return, and he had to use his skills to prove his worth to his pack. Kirin was no layabout. Pleased with his new resolve to help, he picked out a path that led to the waterfront and with a skip in his step made his way down to the beach.

The one trouble was that he had no fishing gear to speak of. He learned the art of fishing from his people back in Alaska. Despite being such a feral pack it only made sense to fish the ripe waters near which they lived. They could catch far more fish with equipment, however, it was a requirement that every young wolf first learn to catch fish with nothing beyong what mother nature had bestowed upon them... Kirin peered down at his taloned hands and gave them a wry grin as he flexed his fingers. Oh yes, he did have his own equipment.

With such a spring in his step Kirin found the beach with little time, covering a lot of ground with his long strides. The bay glistened and danced before him, the water sparkling as it reflected the angled sunlight of the brimming day. The wolf spared little time and waded out into the water enjoying the chill lap of the brine against his legs, weighing down the tip of his tail as it dipped into the water too. He stopped when he was about knee-deep, he had to stay within a certain distance of the shore for this kind of fishing. These were unfamiliar waters to the young fisherman and though he hoped for a bountiful catch it would probably amount to little more than a practice session this morn. After all, he needed to learn the habits of the fish, the pull of this bay's tide (or lack of). It was all part of learning the rhythm and dance of life in Casa di Cavalieri.

With his head held high and his dark tail curled up and over his back, Kirin Rune trotted brusquely through the foreign place. In a bid to explore this new land and get to know the multitude of packs that lived here and the secret to why there were so many in one place, Kirin set out to investigate the land that surrounded each pack. Without knowing the area, he had to hear about the pack and where they lived through rumors on the breath of fellow rogues, but luckily that type of information was not hard to come by. Lone wolves and the various types of dogs that lived here were quick to give information, especially when a steaming fresh rabbit was offered up as payment. After meeting the female named Transgression, Kirin wondered if the packs around here were like the pack Trans had experienced her whole life, a pack that enslaved her and treated her as nothing. Even an Omega did not deserve that... then again, Omega were integral to pack structure. If the packs here were as disreputable as the one she had fled from then this would not be the home for Kirin.

Luckily, he began to realize that wasn't the case. He made inquiry after inquiry until he drummed up some information on a pack that prided itself for its honor and integrity. They were a warrior people with a strange structure to their pack hierarchy but that was about all he could glean from the strangers he met. If he was going to find out information he would have to do so himself so he trotted along to find this place called Casa di Cavalieri.

True to any powerful pack, their borders were clearly marked with a thick and heady scent and the land transitioned from the wild district of the rogues to the well-loved and cared for territory of a pack, as evident not only by the marked border but by the sight of the well worn paths walked by daily patrols and from the few pathways he could spy that led into the lands. He knew one law that seemed to be universal for all packs, if he crossed the border here without making himself known and he was caught he would probably be severely punished, so the loner veered away from the border and kept a wide birth as he padded the perimeter of the land.

As the day stretched on and the sun began to hang low in the sky, Kirin sensed a rise in the humidity even in this dry cold weather. His fur felt thicker and his nose was wet, and along with the rise in moisture the lands changed... or rather, the trees did. The wolf slowed his steps to peer up into the trees, seeing that they were planted in neat rows and though nature had reclaimed this place it seemed like these once-fruiting trees had a specific purpose. Kirin knew he must have stumbled upon one of the townships once run by their human predecessors.

He pranced on and with the waning day his stomach began to protest. The male was so enraptured with his reconnaissance that he failed to stop and hunt but now was as good a time as any. Putting his nose to the ground he huffed out some air to clear his senses and soon picked up on the scent of prey. Breaking into a run he pounded after the animal, soon finding prints in the snow just before he heard the galloping hooves. Giving it a burst of energy, the large wolf strained to catch up to the horse. Though he rarely hunted horse he was up for the sport today. Knowing they could only sprint for so long and that it had been running before he caught on to its trail, it was probable that he would catch up to it when it tired so he remained on the animal's trail.

Just minutes had passed when he finally burst from the orchard just in front of the horse, panting and at a full run when he saw... someone already hunting the horse? No. Not that. She was riding the horse! The concept was not new to Kirin but he had rarely witnessed such a sight in person. He stiffened his legs to draw to a halt and watched in wonderment as horse and rider blew past him.

“She's... beautiful...”

Welcome to 'Souls!

Congratulations!

You've been accepted into the craziest bunch of roleplayers on the vast Internet! We encourage you to keep checking out our information; you can find a wealth of it on the RP Guide. Don't feel pressured to read it all at once -- the guide is a huge resource and is meant to be used as a reference.

If You've Joined the Game As a...

  • ... Loner, do begin considering which of the packs you'd like to join. Survival as a Loner is less realistic -- wolves and other canines are generally social creatures, preferring to live in a pack structure!
  • ... IC pack joiner, you can now begin posting -- you may start your IC pack joining thread whenever you're ready. Make sure you check the pack information to see if the leadership requires anything extra from you!
  • ... OOC pack joiner, the leader still has to respond here before you can start roleplaying -- don't worry, though; if you're rejected from the pack you'll be titled as a Loner, and you're free to pursue other packs or the same one later.

Post-Joining Process

Mandatory:
  • Make an In Character post within five days. Post a thread request to get started, or consider starting or replying to an open thread.
  • Keep reading! While there's only a minimum of three topics you have to read to join the game, we provide a wealth of information for a reason -- we expect players to read and reference this material often while they roleplay at 'Souls.
Preferred:
  • If you're leaving us, please try to let us know in the Player Updates forum. There is no penalty for leaving; you're free to re-join at any time later.

Still Need a Bit of Help?

Post any questions you may have in the Questions and Help forum. Check the FAQ first, though! Failing all else, contact a staff member.

If you need help getting adjusted to your pack, you should talk to your pack leader! They can help you to understand the pack's rank system and how to get a better rank, as well as direct you to plots, potential thread partners, and active members of the pack who may be interested in engaging you.
