A tiny medic walked out of the Howling Caverns. She was small, delicate-looking, and scrawny. She was very petite, being on the small side of the scale for Luperci. Despite her height, she had long legs and a lean body. She had pure jackal features, a long muzzle that didn't taper and a pair of long ears. She had a long, bushy, foxlike tail that almost touched the ground when she walked. The tail whipped and lashed as she walked.

She had light silver fur, almost white in color. The color was abnormal for a jackal, especially for one that seemed as pure-blooded as she seemed to be, but there was a bit of wolf blood-running through her veins. A silver saddle ran down her back, running from the back of her ears to her tail. It ended in a white tail tip. The grey saddle had black hairs scattered through it. She also had black hair that was pulled in a pony tail She had a green eye.

She wore a lot of clothing, even in a supposedly warm time. A grey and white raglan was worn under a black leather jacket. The jacket was intricate, it had a leather layer on the outside and cloth on the inside the extended out as sleeves, a hood, and past the bottom of the leather. She also wore a pair of jeans that was obviously modified for Luperci use. She also wore a necklace that was a wooden crescent moon.

A bandage covered the left side of her face. It hid nasty scars across an empty eye socket. She also seemed more skinny than normal, if one could see beneath her clothing, they would have seen that she looked as though she hadn't eaten in a while. She also carried a cane that she put most of the weight that would have been on her left leg. She limped and seemed bit shaky as she walked.

Avinalora still slaved away in the clinics despite having the knowledge that she could pass out at any time. Some of the load had been lifted off of her when Maelyx arrived, but she continued to push herself past her limits. She didn't have an appetite? She didn't need food. She couldn't sleep? She didn't need to sleep. Part of the vixen screamed that she was being irrational. And she hated irrationality. But, she deserved it. She brought Elva here, possibly bringing the sickness here.

The fox maiden scuttled towards the Thackary. She managed to make it part of the way down. And then she fell, her consciousness lost to her. Her limp body tumbled down a bit and came to a rest at the bottom of the hill. Luckily, her bandages were okay. And her jacket was, too. But, for the second time, she was lying on the cold hard ground. But, as she did, she murmured.

The winter wraith was locked in a dream world. A nightmare. She was standing in the middle of a dark cave. She could hear voices, calling out to her. People needed her help! They sounded like they were underwater, though. She could just make out what they were saying, barely.

"Avinalora!"

"Help!"

"We're stuck!"

The desert doctor tried to get to the direction of where the voices were. But they were coming from everywhere. She didn't know where to go, where they were. And then she saw shapes, shadows with red eyes. They looked maliciously at her. Then they spoke, sounding like the people that called to her.

"You can't save everybody!"

"You're too weak to be of any use!

"Anathema fell because of you!"

"No!" The moon-washed maiden yelled and fell to her knees.

In the waking world, the monochrome fox twitched, muttering things and occasionally crying out.

(000) Ooc text here.

The creature of night had taken to traveling much of the time, his life was falling apart, so why should he make any life for himself in one place? Yet somehow, the dark giant always found himself returning to Anathema. This was the place where he and his mate had made a life for themselves, and this was the place where they had both lived up until the ashen cream luperci vanished, not having been heard from by the charcoal behemoth since.

Lux needed to return, he couldn’t live with himself with the chance that his mate could some day come back for him, and that he would not be there to accept him, but the builder turned demon was not even sure that he could take Athos back at this point, the male was broken, his mind had twisted and contorted in ways that the onyx mammoth had not previously thought possible. Voices that once whispered to the male in his ears now roared and clawed incessantly away at his mind, and sometimes it was more than he could bear.

He was walking now, back to the place he once called home, trekking the distance between the mountain and the village, the male noticed something in the distance that looked a bit like a spot of snow that had not yet melted in the heat of spring, yet that was impossible. It was warm now, there could be no snow this far down the mountain.

Moving in closer to investigate, the diminutive form of a moonbeam luperci became clear, and Lux’s broken eyes narrowed slightly. What was Avinalora doing on the ground? Was she dead? Was she wounded? Lux moved in to sniff at her suspiciously when the small form shifted, murmuring a sound of protest, and Lux reached out to shake the girl softly, feeling a shoulder beneath his paw that was little more than bone.

Eyes widening in displeasure, Lux stooped to scoop up the leather clad healer into his massive arms, feeling a practically weightless burden as he looked ahead with determination and worked his stiff body harder to get the healer back to her home, despite the intangible voices of demons in his mind telling him to let her die, and him with her.

Arriving at the house of the healer, Lux supported her entire weight against him in one arm and reached down to work the door handle with the other, ducking his immense height beneath the door frame and moving his way slowly to what he assume to be Avinalora’s bedroom, laying her fragile form down and covering her with a fur blanket before the beast would run off to get a container of fresh water and preserved meat from storage.

He brought these things back to her room before he would stand and pace the floor, his tail lashing as he became infuriated by how poorly the healer had been caring for her own life despite the great care she put into healing others, including himself.

Avinalora twitched and muttered as she dreamt. This wasn't the first set of nightmares she had experienced. They had been one of the reasons why she couldn't sleep. The night terrors. She could normally figure out that she was dreaming, she could normally wake herself up. But, the vixen didn't know it was a dream. And if she didn't know it was a dream, she didn't know that she could wake up from it. She didn't feel the change when she was on the thing they called a sofa, a long chair she had drapped furs over. But her nightmare was getting worse.

In her dream, the shapes began taking form in her head. She saw the cream and brown hues of her adopted mother, Adree. But, the woman didn't have the comforting smile and gentle gaze. Now, the coyote woman had angry eyes and a sickening smile on her face. She looked skeletal, just as how the woman looked on her deathbed.

"You couldn't save me." The coyote healer said, her voice wheezy and breathless. She smelled of sickness, the sickness that she died from. She walked closer to the fox maiden, grinning.

"No, Adree! I'm sorry!" The winter wraith screamed. In the waking world, the muttering formed into those words. Desperate and pleading. She twitched as she dreamed.

In her nightmare, a bigger shape manifested. The desert doctor saw the Midnighters that had been lost in the escort. Her former leaders and the people she had seen but barely knew. They were skinny, very skinny. As if they had starved to death. Their fur had frost clinging to the strands and their eyeballs were frozen blue.

"You didn't save us. The voices of the ex-Midnighter's former pack-mates blended together into one. They looked angry at her, mad at her for not looking hard enough for them. They were one of her greatest falliures.

"I tried my hardest! Please, believe me! I looked everywhere for you!" The grey-scaled girl yelled. In the waking world, she spoke those words clearly, a difference from the mumbling. She was pleading, almost sobbing.

And then another voice, a voice so familiar. A voice that sounded like the silver waif's, but older. Maybe it was her mother? She didn't know. But, it seemed like it was.

"You were born weak, you will always be too weak to save them." The herbalist's mother said.

And with that, the jackal mutt woke up. She propelled herself up, gasping and looking around in fright. The dream felt so real. She took a second to gather her wits, taking in her surroundings. She remembered going down to the clinic, and nothing else after that. The Volac sighed.

"Not again." The moon-washed maiden said. She looked around and managed to make out a massive shape. She scented the air to confirm the identity. It was Lux. She hadn't seen him for a while, but she knew that he had been up to no good. Her eye narrowed slightly. She hoped he hadn't witnessed her nightmare.

The monochrome fox began trying to get out of bed. She was still weak, but she needed to get back to work. She also didn't want to go to sleep again.

The dark giant sat and silently observed the winter healer as she twitched and muttered helplessly in her sleep. It wasn't until this muttering had transformed itself into distinguishable words that the golden eyed behemoth thought better of watching her, and he turned his head away, simply waiting for her to wake up so that he could prevent her from going right back out and killing herself with work.

The female had bolted upright after just a few minutes, and Lux glanced back at her, experiencing an increasingly rare moment of clarity, in which his thoughts were not completely drowned out by the voices of demons in his head. "Avinalora, you need to rest. I brought you food and water, don't leave." the male spoke calmly, though he sounded as though he wasn't in a lenient mood today, he was ready to give the silver healer a piece of his mind if she chose to argue.

With a sigh, raking a massive set of claws through his messy hair, the male bit his lip and continued. "If you push yourself you're gonna kill yourself, you need to rest or you won't be able to help anyone. You need to help yourself." crossing the room, the dark giant lifted the food he had brought to the previously unconscious female and he held it near her face, looking down at her expectantly.

Avinaloras ear flattened against her head, not in fear but in anger. Lux wasn't the boss of her; hell, she was higher up that he was. He told her not to leave. The vixen considered actually getting out of bed just to defy him, but after what he'd done to Evangeline, she decided against it. Instead, she decided to give him a look that screamed you aren't the boss of me. That expression alter turned into one of her normal bitch faces.

And then the dark giant told the fox maiden the obvious. That is she pushed herself, she'd kill herself. She scoffed at the statement. "Anymore wise words, captain obvious?" She said and crossed her arms. She didn't care if she died, she deserved it. And no matter who told her otherwise, she wouldn't believe them.

"Resting doesn't help me anymore." The ghostly jackal stated flatly. Every time she slept she risked hurting her bandages. Or the gods-forsaken dreams. She had her rest now when she passed out. "Every time I go to sleep, I risk damaging the bandages or having those fucking nightmares." The healer stated and ended with yet another glare.

The behemoth tried to offer her food, but the winter wraith felt nauseous when she saw it. She wasn't hungry and she didn't care that she wasn't. "I'm sick, dick bag. That means I have no appetite." She said, pushing the food away. She needed to get back to work.

"And if I die, I'll at least atone for my sins." The moon-washed medic stated off-handedly. "I'm the one who brought this fucking plague to Anathema when I brought that wretch in." She said, her eyes furious and her teeth slightly bared. "So, I'd appreciate if you'd let me work myself to death in peace."

And with that, the monochrome fox began trying to get up. It was slow due to her weakness. But she tried to will her heavy muscles to move.

It was apparent from the very moment that the silver Vixen woke up that she was furious. Furious at Lux for trying to help her, for trying to be a good person for once since his mate had left him alone in the world again. The male furrowed his brows in irritation before he tried to continue to help, he tried to get the skin and bones healer to eat something, and she refused, calling the male a "dickbag" for showing concern, and this was where Lux would draw the line.

But Avinalora crossed it. The fact that the tiny female would go so far as to say that dying would atone her sins. That she deserved it, and Lux slammed the plate of food down on a nearby shelf before stepping towards the moonbeam colored healer and grabbing her roughly by the arms. "If you die you will never atone for your sins. If you really did bring this plague to Anathema, you've got to survive long enough to help everyone recover, or your sins will follow you into the after life. So no, I will not let you work yourself to death! the beast practically snarled as he glared down into the healers single green eye, the other side being covered in bandages.

"What is it you hope to accomplish this way?!" Lux demanded, letting her go roughly and taking a step back with hackles raised in anger. "Do you wish to abandoned all the sick and dying when you are one of the only people capable of helping them?! Just because you're wallowing in too much self pity to see that they need you to help them, not to run and hide with you tail tucked between your legs!" the beast had his fangs bared, but he stood still, he didn't make any move to hurt the vixen, as he still had some sort of hope left that they were still somehow friends despite the obvious hatred that Avinalora now held for him.

Avinalora didn't even flinch as Lux slammed the plate down and grabbed her. She glared at him fiercely and defiantly. She was a higher ranking member and she already knew that he had attacked Evangeline. The Angela didn't want it to become a big deal, but the beast attacked the leader of Anathema. The vixen could bring it to the sub-leaders and pack. She could blackmail him.

The giant told the winter wraith that if she died, she would never pay for what she'd done. She scoffed in response to that. He told her that she had to survive or those actions would follow her into the afterlife- probably hell for her- though that didn't actuality bother her. The fox maiden wouldn't give him an inch. The wolfdog said that he wouldn't let her work herself to death. "You are not the boss of me." She muttered.

Finally, the the ghostly jackal go. She crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him defiantly. Her ears were shoved forward and her tail was raised. She would remind him who was the higher ranking person here. She didn't want the sick to die! And then he had the audacity to tell her that she was running from her patients. That got the fox-tailed female even more pissed.

"If you didn't notice, fucktard, I've been working my ass off to heal my patients!" The monochrome fox replied angrily, her words sharp. She wouldn't let him win. "Now why don't I prove to you that I won't abandon my patients and go and heal them!"

The sick and frail looking little healer was certainly doing her best to appear dominant over the black shadow of a giant, muttering a simple, "You aren't the boss of me." The use of less than professional language by the desert healer got the black behemoth angry, his own ears pushing forwards and his teeth baring from behind charcoal lips.

"What do you think you're gonna be able to do? Pass out again outside and get even sicker than you are? A dead healer is a useless healer, Avinalora! Why don't you treat yourself as if you were a patient too? The other healers in the pack can cover while you rest, and you need to rest. I'll call a leader here if I have to." The bear threatened. Lux was well aware that he was not in favorable standing with the leadership of Anathema, they knew about his transgressions against the pack.

Lux had even attacked the Angela when he was in a compromised state of mind, and there were guards there in an instant ready to cease the male, but Lux was confident that in this he would be supported, in trying to convince a valued pack mate not to work herself to death, however suddenly and viciously she had decided to hate him, Lux didn't want the female who was at one point not to long ago his friend, to die while he stood by and did nothing for her.

I'm a slow dying flower, the frost-killing hour

Avinalora glared into the male's eyes, her tail lashing. She was ever so close to kneeing -or punching- him somewhere that would really hurt, but she resisted the urge. She snarled in response, her eyes blazing. Like hell he would stop her from doing her job. She was more than capable of handling this by herself. The vixen's claws unsheathed.

The ghostly jackal chuckled as the male threatened to call for the leaders. "Like half of the leaders would listen." She said. She knew that the male didn't stand so high and mighty with the leaders. She did, however. She wouldn't mind getting him in trouble and maybe he deserved it. But, the winter wraith had patients to attend to.

"Fuck off!" The monochrome fox yelled and walked out briskly, ignoring the pain in her leg.
