[ 000 ] sorry for the lame starter <3

The Blackwoods were no longer his home. But having spent that earliest months of the year hidden among the copse, he was somewhat reluctant to leave it's embrace. He made frequent, almost daily, visits to the shadowy woodland, enjoying the solitude and peace that the area afforded him. Few made the journey here, many for fear it was haunted. The whispers didn't fear the hound, the idea of ghosts were not something that particularly startled him.

Thick underbrush made it difficult to traverse in his larger forms, so the pale man slipped through the twisted growth as a feral. Twigs and thorns stuck to his cottony pelt, little nicks and tears dotted the more sparsely coated parts of his body as they were prone to. His coat, as attractive and bold as it was, gave Ankh little protection. Even so, it didn't hamper his expedition. It was something he was all in all used to. Gazelle like limbs propelled the hound over his obstacles, and he flew through the forest like a cheetah.

AHH, thank you so much for starting! I missed Ankh <3 <3 <3 Elphaba is accompanied by pNPC Brocade, both in Optime form.

The Valentine man trailed her as far as the edge of the deep groves, and then hesitated, unsettled; One foot in the tangle of the underbrush, the other in the relative safety of the Pine Barrens.

Elphaba spared him no courtesies - she rather enjoyed pushing his willingness to obey her father - and strode gracefully through the tall, dense pines. At some point, perhaps a precarious moment in time between the prodigal return of her sister and the looming promise of a Last Supper, the dark heir seemed to have grown into her body. She wore it now with elegance, and the bitterness and jealousy seethed only deep within the wine red of her eyes.

After muttering some foreign curses under his breath, Brocade stomped into the Blackwoods behind her. "Where is your guard at?" He asked bluntly, referring to the giant man Elphaba had hired recently. The young witch shrugged nonchalantly, taking a moment to press her palm against a nearby trunk. "I gave him the day off. I knew you'd be around to keep an eye on me, in any case," She looked over her shoulder at the grey man with a deadly smile, hoping to catch him unawares - But instead of meeting her gaze, the soldier was staring ahead through the thick trees, his yellow eyes narrowed in focus. "Someone's coming," He said ominously.

Though the Blackwoods held a grim reputation for all but Salsola's coven, the young woman laughed aloud at the little tremor in his voice. Then she too paused to listen, to the swift-approaching sound of lithe paws over dark mulch.

hope it's ok if I assume they've seen each other around seeing as they've both been hanging out in the Blackwoods?

The gazehound flew threw the tangle of fauna, but the scent of another pair caused him to divert his course by a metre or so towards the edges of the forest, where the copse faded out into woodland. Long limbs launched the hound over a fallen log, where he caught sight of the pair he'd tracked down, standing below him some few metres away.

The first he knew immediately, 'Elphaba', the dark coated daughter of the Lord Commander, a common enough sight in the Blackwoods. The second he lingered over before greeting him too, 'Brocade', the brother of Weaver. Ankh afforded the man with a nod, before turning to the woman. Without light penetrating the canopy, Elphaba seems to merge into the darkness of the pines. Only her face shone as starkly as Ankh's entire form did.

Ankh jumped down, landing on bent legs, absorbing the impact, and then straightening up again. 'Exploring the abyss again?' he asked.

yeah man, totally fine!!! :>

He burst from the underbrush like a spectre of the otherworld. The pale rays of light caught in his fur and made it glow, white as a fresh new moon.

Brocade's hand had tightened around the shaft of the spear he carried with him always, and for a moment it looked as though he might heft it protectively into the air. But then Elphaba smiled brightly, and the spectre became only Ankh of house D'Aabt. Brocade relaxed, looking a little shaken.

"Ankh!" The young witch clasped her hands demurely, though her cardinal eyes were pensive and wicked. "What a pleasure." Behind her, Weaver's brother mirrored the hound's respectable nod, his yellow eyes trailing erratically about the woods as though searching for their next assailant. "Don't mind Brocade," Elphaba said, catching the Valentine man's tension and dismissing it with a light wave, "The old places make him uncomfortable, but we're here to protect him, aren't we?"

She patted his arm condescendingly, and the soldier rolled his eyes. "Just let a man do his job, won't you?" He looked across at Ankh as though to share some sort of male frustration at the whims of powerful women. Elphaba laughed, a light pleasant sound. "Always," She said easily, in reply to the white hound's earlier question, "And yourself?"

ooc murr

He flashed Brocade a roguish smile, triggered by Elphaba's gentle ribbing. 'Of course...' the hound reassured. The eeriness of the Blackwoods was not unfamiliar to him. As a child, he avoided the place markedly, but as a adult he had seen enough of the world to realise that ghosts and shadows were the least of his worries. The hound echoed the soldier's beaten gaze, half humoured and half sympathetic. Women...

'The same,' the pale man nodded, 'It's nice to seek out the solitude the darkness has to offer from time to time'. Pumpkin eyes drifted upwards towards the dense canopy, turning towards the distance specks of light ahead of the trio and then sailed back towards his companions. 'Not that I'm disappointed to have found some company that is'.

sorry for my slow, hun!

Though not a formal member of the coven, Ankh had been found traversing the Blackwoods just as often as any of their order; Elphaba wondered if there wasn't something magical about the white hound after all. Some were born with a natural affinity for spirituality, she had been taught, and this drew them to places of power, where magics and the Craft could be manifested.

Whatever the case, the appearance of the Confidant seemed to console Brocade to his chosen duty. The dark witch wondered if the two men had met before; The look they shared, though placating enough, seemed to indicate a sort of camaraderie; She did not think for even a moment that it was related to having to put up with her.

Ankh was a well-spoken hound, his voice rich and pleasant in the muffled silence of the woods. Elphaba found herself measuring him with her eyes, looking for something that she could not name. "Likewise, of course - I am always pleased to meet another soul in these trees. They can be so lonely, sometimes," She tapped a finger on her black lips pensively. "I'm headed to a shrine to pay some respects - Will you come, Ankh? If only for a little while. I'm sure it would make Brocade much less likely to lose his courage," Her sharp white teeth flickered in another goading grin, and the Valentine man growled and grumbled beneath his breath.

'I'd be delighted to,' the ghostly hound purred, 'It's, unfortunately, been a while since I paid my own necessary respects'. Ankh gave a soft smile, betraying a hint of mourning, almost forgotten. He'd lost track of how long his father had been gone. His mother too, although she was still in the land of the living her absence made it feel as if she wasn't.

The hound cast the other male a glace, a soft smirk crept onto his muzzle, his eyes shining with a mix of humour and sympathy. Turning back to Elphaba, he spoke 'Lead the way when you're ready'.

<3 <3 <3

Sometimes the people spoke about Ankh in the same way they would speak about a specter; With his bright white fur haunting the territory, and his social withdraw inciting rumors about mystery and possibility, there was little wonder why. Elphaba had never met Ankh's father, but knew about his death in the same way she knew most everything about the history of Salsola.

They had been long and tedious lessons, but came to serve her well in moments like these.

"Wonderful!" She purred to Brocade's dissatisfied sigh. It was only a short walk further into the depths of the Blackwoods, and Elphaba knew the way as well as she knew her own reflection. The woods had a way of losing people, getting those unfamiliar with their treacherous paths all turned around and disoriented. For those like Elphaba and Ankh, who regularly walked beneath the gnarled bough canopy, they were as familiar and welcoming as the Ruins.

The shrine was a small stone platform erected within a tight circle of pines. Elphaba had not raised the structure - it had been there for a long time, much longer than the kingdom of Salsola. She had, however, taken it upon herself to return it to some semblance of use; The humble altar was cleaned of branches and debris, and candles had been purposefully placed in the nooks and crevasses of the nearby branches. Using a flint, the young witch took her time lighting a few of the fat wax candles; When the little flames were bright enough, she stepped back thoughtfully.

Brocade looked on with obvious distrust as Elphaba gestured to the little stone altar. "Would you like to go first, Ankh? Normally I offer a little hair or a little blood, depending on the day, though if you would rather I'm sure a spoken prayer would suffice."
