I've decided Tink is Senua's most favorite of them all~ xD [ 384 ]

The breeze blew by a little stronger near the coast but it was nothing like the whipping wind that came on stormy days. The sun shone down brightly from a clear blue sky and the air, though still crisp and chilly, seemed the warmest it had been in a long while.

Another benefit of the coastline was its rocky cliffs and the bare granite there, which warmed so swiftly in the heat of the sun the snow that gathered there never lingered long. Patches collected here and there further along the tops of the cliffside but where the little family had chosen to settle down for their picnic was a serendipitous patch of grass. Dulled and browned from the harsh winter weather it was somewhat of a sad sight to see, but it wasn’t cold wet snow, and for that alone they were grateful.

A large patchwork blanket was laid out and a modest selection of foodstuffs were spread at its center. The pups, already growing quickly into young adults, were far too busy tussling with each other to take much interest, but the newest addition to their family – a young orphaned fox – was more than happy to partake from the safety of his adopted mother's lap.

"Ow ow ow! That hurts! Senua whined as her brother bit a little too hard on her ear. Sidious relented with a victorious growl and prepared to attack her again but was promptly scooped up by a very large hand and plopped down on the blanket opposite his sister. Senua strut proudly to her father and smiled up at him, pleased to have been avenged, but was only met with a stern stare from daunting red eyes. "Stand up for yourself, figlia."

As Scorpius raised his gaze to his mate for confirmation all ears twitched to the sound of others approaching and Serene’s frown of disapproval was overlooked as his attention was drawn to the edge of the trees in the distance. Sidious had finally taken notice of the food and was too busy gnawing on a bone to care but Senua had hopped up and moved to the edge of the snow, her whole rump wiggling with the wagging of her tail as she eagerly watched for one of her favorite individuals to appear.

Puppy-grabbing pp, lemme know if needs changed xD <3

There had been a change in Tink since the Last Supper. While Khael's life normally would have moved on, uneventful (at least per her definition), she was quick to note the girl's shift in demeanor. Traces of coldness and anger lingered where there had been only bright joy and laughing warmth before, and sometimes she confided in Khael -- in whispers, in the privacy of their little shack -- that she didn't know what was right and wrong. Thankfully, she did not seem to want answers to this; she would not find them in Khael.

Work distracted her, and when she had finished up with washing a particularly adventurous sheep to keep its wool from ruin, Khael joined her on a brisk hunt and then a stroll along the coast. The cold surf crashed against the high cliffs, but it seemed distant from them and the warm day -- warm enough Khael complained about mud rather than ice. She skirted what piles of snow lingered until Katinka's fluffy ears pricked up, and the two walked a slightly different trail to the cliffs.

Spotting the puppies -- especially the cute silver child staring expectantly out -- Tink beamed and ran over to them. Sen-uuaaaa, she called in her high Swedish singsong, and when she reached the picnickers reached to scoop the child up in her arms and kiss all over her sweet little face.

Khael prowled up beside her and greeted the couple with her usual stoicism -- but she spotted the little fox and the dark puppy gnawing his bone and smirked a little.

Oh, they're just both so big! Tink said -- and Khael laughed aloud as she saw Tink struggling to hold the four-month-old wolf cub. But Tink could wrestle and lift fat piglets and squirming sheep, and while she no longer twirled or cradled Senua as she might have, she didn't seem strained by the weight so much as the awkwardness of a lanky puppy body. She set the girl back down to earth and wagged her tail at her friends. How are you? she asked, blinking kindly at them.

Sorry for the sloooow <3 [ 364 ]

"Kaaa-tiii!" Senua yipped her name as best she could as she was swept up in the maid's arms, her kisses returned with little puppy licks as the not-so-little pup wiggled with glee. Sidious looked up as the two femmes moved closer to offer their salutations and grumbled a growly sort of greeting from between his gnawing as Nox, the fox, timidly curled closer into Serene's lap.

"They still think they're little lap pups though!" Serene replied with a laugh, smiling sweetly up at Tink and Khael as she patted the blanket beside her, beckoning them to settle down if they wished. "Join us, please."

Scorpius nodded his greeting and his approval but chose to seat himself on a large boulder near their little picnic rather than sink his great form all the way to the ground. Though his features remained emotionless, as usual, he was pleased to see Serene had made friends beyond him and his former ward, Vesta. She was more reclusive than he was but crossed paths often with the maid on her visits to the barn and with so much in common the two femmes bonded quickly. For that, he was grateful.

"Busy!" Serene replied as Senua rubbed up against her side before settling herself between her mother and Katinka, bright blues cheerily looking between them. With two growing pups, a young fox, and helping Tink with all the livestock duties Serene was almost as busy as Scorpius, but she didn't let it bother her at all. "But well. I'd rather be busy than have nothing to do. Keeps my mind off of things." She trailed off a little and looked down suddenly as she gently rubbed the soft fur between Nox's oversize ears.

"Seeing the Pentiti's calf at the Supper was..." Scorpius pondered the next word carefully. Though Serene was quick to trust Katinka and Khael, Scorpius was not so easily swayed, and though he did not hold them as far at a distance as the rest of the pack he did not draw them too close either. "...upsetting. Such a needless display of carnage." And such a waste. He pondered afterward, though his features did not betray his thoughts.

Katinka smiled at her friend and settled down on the blanket beside her, glancing curiously but kindly at the cute little fox. Khael remained standing, arms folded and gaze sweeping out over the surf for a few moments, but then at last she sat on the blanket too. Her feet couldn't stand the slush and mud for much longer.

I bet, Tink said, and smiled at Senua. I wouldn't mind watching the children for you if you wanted a day off, she added. I don't think we'd get in too much trouble, would we? She winked at Senua conspiratorially, but the mirth faded from her face as Serene's voice did, and vanished altogether as Scorpius finished the thought.

Khael saw the tension in Tink's body, but the girl was trying to smile at least for the sake of the silver puppy. Her voice was calm, but her hand curled into a fist at her skirts. It made an impression, that's for sure. I worry what that means, if that was the type of impression she wanted to make.

Khael snorted. She wants to show us strength, perhaps. She can kill a baby calf. Impressive, no? Her voice was dry, sarcastic, but without the same feeling as Tink's.

~ [ 302 ]

"No creature deserved such a cruel fate." Serene added somberly as she stared down at Nox, who looked back up at her with his bright ember eyes as big ears twitched in an attempt to comprehend her words. He was still learning the common tongue and picked up more and more each day as the family learned his language and he absorbed theirs. With him being so young the task was easier but it still took time.

"I assume the vagueness of her message was also a part of it." Scorpius mused aloud as he tried to make sense of it all. So many meanings could be gleaned from such a needless act. A show of strength was one, but from his perspective it was more a show of weakness. If she needed to slaughter an innocent animal to prove her strength, she had only shown she had very little of it to begin with.

"Be wary around our newly crowned Heirophant. If she is willing to do this, she may be willing to do anything." He advised with a low rumble at the back of his throat. Scorpius had made promises that he intended to keep, promises that kept him from distancing himself from his neice and her ilk, but that did not mean he had to agree with her or what she did.

The Beast was quite open about his dislike of the Coven and the witchkin but at the same time had never spoken openly against it. He did not believe in their so called magicks nor did he fear their premonitions and foretellings. The Coven were luperci just like the rest of them, flesh and blood, but their power - little as it was - swayed many minds among the Family. And that was how they were dangerous.
