Lyris

The invitation had arrived and Casa would not ignore such an opportunity to socialize with one of their allies, and potentially other packs. They weren’t sure who would be at this Ball but the Cavaliers sure as heck never passed up a good party. Lyris and Luca had left the pack lands on their steads together, traveling in a small group of pack mates making their way towards the Court. It was not a very long trip to the Court from Casa but while traveling in a group things could always be closer, particularly a Ball.

Fortunately clothing choice for Luca was a non-issue. As a new leader of Casa di Cavalieri his dark bear fur lined purple cloak draped around his shoulders, showing to the world his rank and burden. Under his rank cloak he wore his freshly cleaned leather chest piece he had purchased while in Freetown, his red shirt and his dark brown pants. Luca was rarely not presentable in his everyday wear regardless so all his outfit needed was some cleaning up, and that along with a good amount of time spend on grooming gave him a very handsome appearance.

The group had arrived at the Court without any problems, and they were greeted into the territory with open arms. A member of the Court, leaving the Cavaliers to enjoy the start of the Ball, safely tucked the horses away. The ballroom was filled with canines and the scents from many different pack filled the air thickly, distracting his nose permanently. When the introductions and welcoming speech was done the Lune turned and took Lyris by the hand, just as the music began. “Are you going to come willingly this time or is this going to be a struggle again?” He teased lightly.

muahaha. did you expect anything less? dress looks something like this, though I imagined it a little darker. (+500)

She had vowed to never again wear a dress. It was uncomfortable, restricting, itchy, and invading. She hated dresses.

So, naturally, she was in a dress. Lyris fought every breath to slide her fingers under the fabric and rip it to ribbons, as the urge was very persistent. Somehow, though, she managed to keep it on her body in fine form. This particular dress had, at least, been able to be modified somewhat to her liking. Before Clara had begun sewing it for her, Lyris has made one request and one request only; that it have a thigh-high slit, so that she could still ride horseback and run if she so desired. With only a raised eyebrow the seamstress agreed, and now Lyris was able to mount her stallion with the long ribbon of red flush to her fur. The color was closer to maroon than true red, and was striking against her pale fur and Kenyon's black and white dappled figure. But among the equally beautiful forms of her Cavaliers, Lyris was just another face; she could not call it pretty, for the crevasses of scars that laced her jaw. In the moment of these social events, such as a ball, the Stryder wished for her long hair back. Her new, severely spiky cut could not conceal what the bear had ravaged her with. So instead, she found her only defense to sit as tall as she could in the saddle, no trace of fear to be found. She hoped it would suffice, and none would dare stare.

As a valiant group of Knights, the Cavaliers rode to the lands of their allies. Lyris had never visited Cour des Miracles before, and so she was struck with curiosity as they were guided into the unfamiliar borders. Luca, however, did not hesitate even a moment- like a true Lune- and urged her speed. Clearly, he was eager for the event. Dismounting in a whirl of red, Lyris stroked Kenyon a brief goodbye and a promise to return and followed her mate to the crowd of bodies, robed in the deepest and most vibrant of colors. Faces whirled past, familiar and not, and with each pair of unfamiliar eyes against her own, she had to try a little harder to keep her chin high. While she knew it was not practical for her to think everyone was staring at her scars or the dark tattoo just visible through the slit of her dress, it was all that consumed her. It was only when Luca grabbed her hand and pulled her away that she could loosen the weight in her stomach. She took an uncharacteristic couple of seconds before thinking of a decent reply, and then shot into a little rant, half-joking and half-not. "A struggle? I'll tell you what a struggle really is- riding through the forest on a horse's back in this thing. Have you ever worn a dress, Luca? It's awful! It's scratchy and its bright and its- its- terrible!" She had taken scarce a breath through the entire shout-whisper, and sucked in deeply after, meeting his bright eyes with her own fiery green, waiting for his response. The situation was very similar to their first ball together; she had been just as ruffled and snippy as now. Formal events were most certainly not her thing.

Parties were something that the young Lune held dear to his heart. As a teenager he had attended more than his fair share of mixers. With a drink in hand and a tail swaying with swagger in his step he had flirted and danced the night away. Often, to his now embarrassment, he would end up having a drunken night with a wolfess or two. With Lyris by his side he felt ashamed of his past actions against females. It was his white wolfess that had mellowed him out by meeting his stupidity head on. She was strong, resilient and as sharp as a whip – and Fenris did she know how to keep him in line. Luca may be Lune but Lyris was the orbit that kept the golden Knight on track.

Reaching out and taking her hand in his felt only natural and as he turned to face her the words that were spat had no effect on him. “Next time I will carry you. How about that?” He spoke without missing a beat. Wrapping a hand around her lower back he tugged her in close. In hushed tones he added, “And when we get home you don’t have to wear anything.” Although it wasn’t uncommon for Lyris to lack clothing the tone in his voice suggested there was more to his words than her comfort. Motioning with his head towards the dance floor he began to move. If she wanted to come she would, and given the alternative was standing alone in her dress surrounded by strangers who might want to make small talk – she would follow.

sass level has broken the fourth wall (+400)

Despite what it may look like, Lyris still didn't believe the saying "opposites attract". Opposites repel, and that was clear as day. Lyris and Luca had many opposites- they were opposites- and very often their differences only caused compromises and tension. The largest was their ratio of love for the Optime or love for the Lupus; Luca had been none too pleased with Lyris giving birth on four legs and in a den of dirt, and Lyris was none too pleased when Luca claimed so quickly his ambassadorship with Sapient. But it was through these that they grew to understand each other more deeply, and how they learned to become endlessly tolerable with the other. Lyris would pout and she would snap about the party, but Luca's confidence and love for the busy liquor-and-music-filled rooms were the only thing that stood to anchor her. The second her hand was taken by his, her anger cooled from boiling to sizzling. She was really only mad at herself; Lyris despised incompetence, and she was wholly incompetent at socializing. She could shoot a deer through a maze of trees from a quarter mile away, and skin and carry it home to boot, but she could not, for the life of her, scrounge up some topic to create small talk. Wearing a dress with her scars in full view and the fear in her eyes much too obvious was a living nightmare, behind the bear that gave her said scars, and she very nearly faked being sick only in order to not be dragged here. That was only before he had convinced her. She hated how easily she gave. She was a woman of steel, no soft golden-eyed pretty boy was going to melt her heart, she had sworn it. She sucked at keeping swears.

"I'd like to see you try," She snapped, with a little less fire. The Corpo found that she was giving her mate's hand the death-grip, and so she loosened it as much as possible, though it was still the hold of a terrified child. She nearly stomped her foot. Chill out. She reprimanded, using her free hand to pull at the dark dress that held her hostage. Her nervous shifting was quickly cut short, however, when she was pushed up against Luca, forced to meet his golden stare again. "Hmmm," Was her only response, with a lifted eyebrow. Despite her rock-solid refusal, the ball of stressed muscle in her back relaxed against his warmth, and she allowed herself to follow him through the mob of bodies. "If you make me dance, our children will be receiving a very sad story about how their father's body was mysteriously found at the bottom of a well." Lyris attempted to deliver her deadly threat with power, but it only came out sarcastic. She stood facing him with her arms crossed, expecting another ballsy move, as was Luca's forté.
