A new world made of snow

Dated for mid-January

Snow flew every which way, kicked up by Nayavota's overzealous digging. The silver girl had taken to excavating the Wolfe-Denahlii camp and was undeterred by each, fresh snowfall. If anything, waking up to pristine, glittering snowdrifts only strengthened her resolve. She bounded out of the den each morning to dig a new, zigzagging path through the camp. How else was she going to entertain herself when Nora and Cedric were out?

The idle chatter of her parents faded away beneath the crunch crunch crunch of packed snow underfoot. With blue sky above her and cold, white walls around her, it was like Nayavota was in a world all her own. She'd dug it all by herself and it was hers and hers alone. No grown-ups allowed! They wouldn't fit anyway.

This was clearly the grown-ups' fault and not hers. The tunnel fit her just fine!

After completing an excellent, swirly whirly loop, Nayavota collapsed with a huff. Tunnel digging was hard work, but she was the strongest, fastest, most bestest puppy in the whole wide world. Well, besides Cedric and Nora. They were pretty cool, too.

Nayavota listened absently to the quiet sounds of the camp. It was soothing and familiar, but something piqued the girl's interest. Or, well, the lack of something. She couldn't hear her parents. While this wouldn't usually be a cause for alarm, Nayavota had been digging for just about forever. What if something had happened to them?

Covered head to toe in snow, Nayavota popped up from her tunnel and surveyed her surroundings. They were next to the Wetu, just like last time. "Hi Mama! Hi Papa!" she squealed, relieved that her parents hadn't vanished. Then, satisfied with her investigation, the tiny girl disappeared again.

WC: 403 OOC: Pupkin is an orange tabby kitty :3

Myra's mind and body was healing. The young woman was getting past the bad, she had to look forward to the good. She was finished training, she had groomed her horses. Even Liri, though it reminded her of Raine every day but she couldn't give her up. It wasn't Liri's fault Raine was a monster. She had Pumpkin on her shoulder and looked around. The fort was making her feel extremely confined. So she decided a walk was good. Turning her head to the cat sitting on her shoulder she motioned to the gates; "Fancy a walk?" The feline who was more than willing to do more than usual made a slight nod of the head. She'd been Myra's companion since Myra was nothing but a three month old pup. Now the two were nearly inseparable, though the cat tended to enjoy sleeping more than she liked being at Myra's side.

The young woman walked, knowing the cat didn't really take kindly to the snow, though she would jump in every once in a while in play. She was a little younger than Myra after all. Myra enjoyed the silence of the snow. It masked most noises so echos were harder to be heard. She smiled when she made a short woof for the snow to catch and hold onto. It wasn't until she was nearly on top of the camp that she heard the cry of the puppy greeting her parents. Myra couldn't help a warm smile. She saw the parents but the pup had disappeared. Curious she moved through the snow to see where the puppy went. She spotted the opening of the tunnel almost immediately. She looked to the cat sitting on her shoulder. Pumpkin took interest in the hole. The cat was young still and quite playful so a sight of puppies was always exciting.

Pumpkin jumped from Myra's shoulder to the entrance of the tunnel the puppy made, she made her way in easy. The pup was small but Pumpkin, being the hunting cat that she was, was a bit smaller. The orange cat followed the tunnel in, before spotting the young pup. She was nearly the color of the snow, had it not been for the silver in her coat Pumpkin would have mistraken her for nothing but a shadow. 'Hello cave digger.' The cat purred.

The small girl tromped through the icy passageway, tiny ears grazing the ceiling. The tightly packed snow had held firm as she'd dug through it, intriguing Nayavota and enabling her to build a tiny, underground section of her tunnel. The hollow was shrouded in shadow, even with light pouring in from either side.

An odd scent caught Nayavota's nose and she paused mid-step. She knew that smell! Bouncing off the tunnel walls, she turned around and yipped at her fuzzy, orange guest. "Kitty! Hi kitty!" Dropping into a play bow, the silver girl's entire body wagged with excitement. Bounding forward, she reached up to gently bap the cat's face. "Naya digga!" she squealed, "Kitty digga?" If the kitty was a digger, they could dig together! That would be so fun.

Without waiting for a reply, Nayavota squeezed back around and bounced out of the tunnel. She opened her mouth to demand the cat follow, but the words morphed into an excited shriek. A new friend! "Hi! 'm Naya!" Nayavota hobbled over to the pale-furred grown-up's feet and placed her tiny, white paws on them. The lady smelled like family and kitties. She liked her already. "Who you?" Nayavota asked, eyes wide. She rubbed her snow-covered face on the stranger's ankle and waited expectantly.

Pumpkin couldn't help but jump back a little, her back arched for a second. It was rare to get surprised as she did from the puppy but she calmed down quick enough when she knew that she was not going to be bowled over into the snow. She watched the puppy jump into a play pose, but she did not return in kind, she was still a cat after all; "No digging kitty" She shook her head. She wouldn't dig, she hated the snow as it was!! She did not have to worry too much though the pup was past her and out of the tunnel in no time.It seemed the puppy had a mind of a fish, where it would be doing one thing and suddenly want something else. The cat smiled and padded out of the tunnel where Myra waited.

Myra saw the puppy rushing out of the tunnel in a burst of speed. She couldn't help but give the puppy an indulgent smile. The shriek hurt her ears and caused her to look around in surprise only to see it was more because she was standing there and it wasn't some creeper coming up behind. She was quite thankful for that, as the Pup came waddling up to her she knelt down. "My name is Myra. It is nice to meet you Naya." She said. She had her new brother and sister and had met them when they were born, though did not have much interaction. She now wished she had. She would sometime soon though. Right now she has a cute puppy to play with here and she was old enough to leave her parents side, even if for a short ways; "You have grown." She said. She had seen the pup maybe once or twice, but not so close; " Are you making a tunnel?" She asked. Pumpkin came up at that moment and jumped onto Myra's shoulder and began purring loudly.

The cat's rejection was of little concern to the silver girl. If her fluffy, new friend wasn't a digger, they'd just play something else! Nayavota would just have to figure out what.

The pale lady knelt down and introduced herself as Myra. That was a pretty name! "Hi Maya!" she said, mispronouncing the grown-up's name. She could say her sister's name and Uncle Ori's, but most R sounds still eluded her. The lady's comment about Nayavota having grown caused her to puff up her tiny chest. She was super duper big! Grinning from ear to ear, she nodded. "Yeah! Big tunnel!"

Of course, to a grown-up, the silver pup's excavation was adorably small. Only Nayavota knew of the countless layers of tunnels and trenches that crisscrossed the Wolfe-Denahlii camp. Most had been rendered inaccessible, buried by ice and snow, but they were still part of her masterpiece.

Nayavota watched in delighted surprise as the cat hopped onto Myra's shoulders. "Maya's kitty?" she asked, head tilted quizzically. Small animals often acted as the pup's unwitting playthings, but the kitty could talk. Talking things were friends, weren't they? Before Myra could answer, Nayavota bounced in excitement. She knew what they could play! "Maya an' kitty play tag!" Nayavota announced. Tag didn't have any digging, so kitty could play, too.

WC: 305 OOC: PUPPIES ARE CUUUTE

Myra couldn't help but smile sweetly at the child's mispronunciation of her name. She did not try to fix it though. She thought it was kind of cute. The girl was just as excitable as Myra was at her age and she couldn't help but giggle. The puppy made her feel joy and happiness. Something she doubted she could feel again. Her heart lifted as the pup exclaimed it was a big tunnel. Myra wished she was small again, so she could play with the young pup and run around her tunnels. When Myra was her age she still was nearly the size of a one and a half month old pup. She looked at where the tunnel started, she could kind of see where the pup made her tunnel, though some of the drifts and deeper parts, it was much harder to see. Myra was going to suggest something, perhaps a little fort just on top so she could see through battlements and everything, but the pup did what all pups do and got distracted by something else entirely.

Myra nodded when she asked if Pumpkin was hers. Before Myra could really say anything the girl went into a little puppy frenzy. She wanted to play tag. Myra loved that game. She wished she could turn into her lupus form, but she would have to deal with what she had now; "Alright then." She looked over at the orange tabby cat who flicked an ear and jumped off Myra's shoulder; "Well then, guess what!!" She exclaimed; "I'm it!" Then she started toward Naya her hands raised as though she was a monster trying to catch something that it wanted. "I'm going to get you!" She called out a laugh in her voice for the first time in weeks.

Bouncing with excitement, the tiny pup waited for Myra's response. Her whole body wiggled with anticipation. It was as if, to any casual observer of sound mind and logical persuasion, that Nayavota was going to explode if she didn't get an answer soon. The little girl was just that excited. When Myra finally exclaimed her agreement, Nayavota was off like a shot. She tumbled through the snow, her bad leg alternately dragging behind her and sticking out like a second tail. For an effectively three-legged pup, Nayavota was fast.

She ran taunting circles around Myra, peals of giggles escaping her tiny lungs, "Nuh uh! 'm faster!" she squealed, darting past the small lady's legs. How dare Myra suggest she was catchable? She was the fastest puppy ever! Or, at the very least, the fastest puppy Nayavota knew.

The silver girl suddenly changed course, rocketing toward the innocent, orange tabby cat. Yipping excitedly, Nayavota play-bit at the unsuspecting feline's hindquarters before looping back around toward Myra. She threw her head back and laughed, body careening toward her pale legs. Then, to Nayavota's surprise, she collided with Myra. Dazed by the impact, the tiny pup tumbled onto her back and rubbed at her freshly-bumped nose. "Ooow," she whined, pouting up at Myra. That hurt! Whimpering quietly, Nayavota continued to paw at her face.

The girl was so excited at the idea of play that she was wiggling so much before Myra could answer. It hadn't really been that long, but a puppy, as she very well knew, was very impatient with anything. She let the girl take off before she started after the puppy. The squealing laughter put joy in Myra's heart that she never thought she could have again. She loved the sight of her brother and sister and Naya of course, who was just as adorable as anything she could imagine.

Myra had not noticed the girls limp leg until now, and her heart wrenched at the sight, but she played it off and pretended to go as fast as she could running toward the little girl. She laughed; "You are very fast!" She said and a few minutes she let the girl run. She planned on dropping in exhaustion but the girl suddenly changed course, going straight towards pumpkin who was taken quite by surprise. The cat had been sitting washing herself, though an eye was on Myra and the girl, it was not that focused on the fact Naya might actually go towards her.

The cat meowed loudly as the girl nipped at her and she bolted towards the tunnels like any sane cat would do, trap itself in a place it had no way of getting out of. If there were a tree nearby she would have ran up that but for the cat, the tunnel was the only option. The little girl went straight at Myra, who stopped and was laughing at the cats scared face. Naya ran right into her. Myra's ears went back as the girl rubbed her nose. Myra knelt down; "oh you poor thing." She said in a soothing voice; "Lets see it." She said, taking a finger to lift the puppy chin to make sure her nose wasn't bleeding.
