Maybe things went better than I thought

Joining!

Well, this was it.

It took him most of the day to reach Casa and a few more hours of walking back and fourth trying to determine what was the border. Now here, he waited patiently as his nerves started frazzling. Unlike Mistfell, he had been here before and this wasn't his first time joining a pack. Still, it stressed him out, making him wonder if this was worth it or if he was just going to be rejected.

He did feel a bit more hope with Casa, since they seemed to be helpful and must've heard of Mistfell's disbandment by now...maybe? Well, he did come here earlier this year, so he should've left a good impression. He managed well enough during the doubles tournament...

...and then he got drunk the last day. The whole thing was a blur, and Wally realized he might not have left as good of an impression as he thought. That night was a whole gap in his memory and he could've done anything short of jumping into the bonfire. The hangover the next day made it hard for him to focus, so any aftermath of that was blurry at best.

With that knowledge, Wally rubbed his face, groaning in annoyance. He hoped whoever came to the border didn't see any of that, or he could've torpedoed any chance of getting into this pack. There had to be ways to counteract that, right? Shrugging off the knapsack, he stuck his spear with the other two and almost sat down before wondering if he had to announce his presence. He didn't do it for Mistfell, but this pack seemed more organized, maybe it was required. As he thought about it more, he finally decided it would be for the best; even though he was sure he was at the border, it was anyone's guess if he was ten feet too close or too far. A howl would make them aware if he was too far outside the border and wouldn't make it seem like he was sneaking in if he was inside.

After a heavy sigh, he breathed in some air until his lungs couldn't take in any more. His head pointing to the sky, he howled until he ran out of breath, a bit shocked someone as small as him to make such a loud noise. Breathing a bit harder, he sat next to his bag and stared at the ground in front of him, feeling a bit better for his chances.

With some time passing, he started to feel a bit drowsy and leaned on his knapsack. He didn't really sleep the night before, settling down late to try to cover some extra distance. It shouldn't hurt his chances to rest his eyes, right? He already pulled the blindfold over them, though his ears remained attentive. If anything approached him, he'll be sure to hear it.

The day was hot with summer heat beating down on the pack lands, but that didn’t stop the Lune from taking Ulrich out to stretch his legs. The red and white gelding happily trotted through the Fort gates, as Luca gave a knowing nod to the guard. The pack was down a handful of members, including his son and his Labour Head, so he felt drawn to make a round of the territory and check for any signs of trespassers. With the summer heat hunting was hard.

The prey was well fed on greenery and stronger in numbers as their young grew quickly, making it difficult for the canines to track and chase them in the harsh heat. Thankfully Casa was strong and many herds made their territory home. However, as loners struggled to feed themselves it was not uncommon for them to try to sneak into new hunting grounds, even if it belonged to someone else. Luca was thankful that Casa was large in number and able to sustain an internal source of food, and with multiple skilled hunters Isaac always had something to butcher for the pack to share.

He led his horse through the tree line, enjoying the shade of the forest. It was hard to traverse the forests these days, as the earthquakes had led to many old and heavy trees cracking with the shakes of the earth and falling. As he pulled the reigns across his body, moving Urlich around yet another fallen log a call came, a call for someone to be met at the borders. With a raised eyebrow he turned towards the source, making his way to the territory edge

It took time for him to find the source of the call, a man who smelt of Mistfell Vale. He recognized the man as being the only non-Cavalier to participate in the doubles, his gold and dark brown coat being easy to remember, but he could not remember a name. Hopping down from his horse the Lune smiled at the man, “Hello Mistwalker, you’re a good distance from home. How can I help you?” It was strange timing that a Mistfell Vale member would appear at his border the day after he sent his own ship with a crew to visit his pack across the bay, but he assumed this man has missed his delegations arrival and was here with something else on his mind.

It were some footsteps that alerted Wally, stirring him from his short nap. It sounded like there was a horse approaching. Despite the horse not sounding to be going too fast, he was quick to peak from under his blindfold, not wanting to be trampled like what almost happened with Wither. He was quick to realize the rider coming towards him was the leader of Casa and was quick to get on his feet, the blindfold still covering one of his eyes. Pulling on his backpack, he wondered how ridiculous he looked with three spears sticking out of the top and how they haven't fallen out yet.

He shook away the thought quickly; he'll have time later to wonder about that. As the leader hopped down, Luca if Wally's memory served correctly, he gave a smile towards the wolverthorne. That had to be a good sign, right? He made one in kind, though it wavered when Luca spoke.

"Mornin'," he responded, his nerves really acting up. It seemed like he was unaware of Mistfell's future. He allowed his eyes to drop towards the ground as his ears pulled back a bit. He felt a bit guilty for requesting to join, as if he was abandoning his own pack. As well, what would the leader think about someone who would abandon his own pack-

No, he shouldn't think that way. Mistfell was going to dissolve within a week or so, he was just thinking ahead on joining another pack. If there was anyone to blame, it would probably be Saga, since she was the one who ordered the disbandment. Even then, Wally didn't feel any ill will against her; she had her reasons. If the two met again, he would ask her. He doubt he would snap at her, since he did jump ship before the pack did disband, but he would definitely press her as for why.

He quickly shifted his thoughts back to Luca, some discomfort evident on his face. He wondered what his thoughts of him would be once he said his plans. "I be thinkin' of joinin' Casa," he started, "Mistfell be disbandin' soon."

The Lune continued to smile, Mistfell Vale was fairly friendly and had eagerly attended their diplomacy events in the past, but he eyes wandered the obscenely large pack on the other males back. With multiple spears poking out he was heavily armed but not well defended. It would be difficult for the man to protect himself while carrying so much. Maybe he was traveling to other packs to trade? Still, it didn’t make sense that he was traveling alone with so much to lose, it was a wonder a loner hadn’t picked him off yet.

His smile faded at the male’s hesitance and look of discomfort on his face. When he spoke of Mistfell disbanding soon Luca’s brows deepened. His choice of words led the Lune to believe it wasn’t a matter of urgency. Soon. No one said a pack was disbanding soon if it was in the middle of a war or if the leaders died and no one could stand-in for the position. No, it was more likely that something had happened leading to a calm decision and an orderly exit. Still, he was curious. “Why is it disbanding?” He asked frankly, not beating around the question.

With a sigh, he added as an afterthought, “Come, lets walk to the Fort while we talk. No use standing around out here.” It seemed his delegation would be returning to him sooner than he originally believed, surely there was not much they could do to help a pack in the middle of dispersing.

Luca's question was only met with a shrug from the wolverthorne. "I'm unsure of t'at. Saga announced it, sayin' how things changed an' how this be a bad year fer us." He shifted his weight a bit as he thought. "Wit' me own experiences, I thought we be doin' fine enough, but I only joined at t'a beginnin' of t'a winter." While the snow and the earthquake was harsh, it was still recoverable, and it seemed everyone was managing well enough. That only left the trespasser incident, and everyone involved walked out of that alive if a bit torn up. Comparing it to the coyote incident with his old pack, Mistfell fared much better; there didn't seem to be as much as an imprint left by the trespassers compared to the coyotes. The shepherd dog started rubbing one such imprint, the burns hidden under one of his armwraps becoming itchy from the thought.

His thoughts shifted back to the Ursarchon. "Maybe Saga knew somethin' we didn't, but she didn't share anythin' 'bout that." He didn't know what more to say. He did wonder sometimes if anyone else would've been willing to step up but he didn't remember hearing anyone suggesting such a thing when he talked to them a few days back. He surely didn't want to, he had no right nor desire to lead. That could've been a reason for that.

The offer for him to come along made the shepherd dog's head tilt a bit before its meaning set in. "Aye! t'at's true." With a twitch of his tail, Wally was ready to follow along, a hint of a grin on his face. That seemed to be a good sign for the future, much better than being turned away then and there. It was a bit surprising this was all moving so fast. Maybe it was past relations between Mistfell and Casa, or maybe it was how much easier it was to talk with Luca compared to Zuri. Even with the excessive height difference, the lack of eye contact Wally was forced to maintain helped to keep him more relaxed. Maybe it was how this felt more conversational than a test. Still, Wally kept his mouth shut, waiting patiently on what Luca was going to say next.
