Lyris had decided that this wasn't the apocalypse, but it was pretty damn close.

She'd found her family. Her minutes of searching had given her the first and last thing she desired in that moment. Lyris didn't care about her scars that burned, anymore. The new kind of pain had caught her by surprise, but she had fallen into the general stupor she forced herself into when pain threatened to weaken her. The cut on her shoulder was hot and wet, but only vaguely. The ink of her tattoo continued to drip and discolor her fur, but she couldn't care any more. She needed to find Luca. Indi, Teagan. She had to find them, otherwise she would shatter like the glass in the wind.

They were alright. Indi was hurt, and Lyris couldn't help but worry over the girl like an embarassingly concerned mother. But she was so shaken, even if she managed to keep the thoughts from her face, that she couldn't help it. Then the wave had come; she'd known something still lie in wait to strike them. They were wet and cold, but safe, still. Then Luca had barked her an order and held her in a goodbye, and she had turned her back on her children. What was she doing?

"Grynn!" She was the first body she saw. Lyris grabbed her arm. "Follow me to the stables." The woman paused, before giving Lyris a somber nod, undoubtedly wishing she could locate her daughter first. Lyris made her way as quickly as her slender figure would allow; she wished she had a thicker form. It was difficult enough to not get swept off her feet by the tide, let alone walk the opposite direction. Grynn seemed to have more luck, and helped Lyris occasionally. Eventually, however, she caught sight of a brindled figure powering his way meaningfully through the flooding. He was already holding armfuls of halters and was currently fitting one on Shasta's head. The colt's eyes were wide, but he was calm enough under the male's touch. "Tennyson, keep doing what you are. I'm coming back with rope." The bright-eyed knight gave Lyris a nod, finishing his work to lead Shasta to the next horse. They needed to move quicker. Lyris needed more hands. Barking out loud in frustration and determination, the Cavallo continued her way to the stables astride her fellow Corpo, the doors within reach. She was never ceasing in her lookout for other able bodies. Her eyes also never stopping jumping from horse to horse scattered in the Fort, hoping that Kenyon would turn up soon. She was certain he was fine; she only needed his help.

((400+)) Group 3- horse roundup! For Callum, Veri/Damon/Rurik, and Lycaon! Currently, Tennyson is haltering as many horses as possible and Grynn will help Lyris with carrying & tying rope. Watch my next posts for your character's assignment and for the impact of wave #2!

Callum's gonna saddle Milité and tie some horses to him, probably the biggest ones: Vito, Merlin, Ulrich, and Tupelo. I'm figuring that the others in this thread will be riding their personal ones. -- +503

A sickening feeling crept into Callum's gut as he slogged away from Veyra to assist in the stable. With the threat posed by the water, especially since the first wave was unlikely to be the last, his instinctive need was to go to her, remain near her, find their boys, and keep them all safe. But Casa needed him, too, so he fought against his instinct and made his way to the stables, not far from where water was ebbing out the doors of the Fort like blood from a kill, laden with debris from the earthquake's destruction.

As he had predicted, loud thumping and angry squeals were coming from not far into the stable, where he had put Milité into one of the stalls not long before the star hit. He increased his pace, passing Lyris and Grynn heading out of the stable. He met Lyris' eye for a moment, squeezed his sister's shoulder briefly, and headed into the stable.

Tennyson was trying valiantly to slip a halter onto the blazed bay face of his horse, but Mil was having none of it; the stallion was throwing his head up and out of reach and snapping for the brindled man's fingers in turn. It didn't look like he had made impact yet, but if his cousin kept pushing his luck, Cal thought there was a good chance Mil would make him hurt. Grabbing an actual bridle and its reins from the storeroom hook, the white Knight went to the stall he usually put his stallion in, putting his hand on Tennyson's shoulder. I've got him.

As the younger wolf nodded and moved away to halter some other horse, Cal faced his. Mil stopped tossing his head and merely turned it, eyeballing his owner. The liquid brown eye was rolling in fear, the sclera bright, though the horse himself seemed to be calming. When Cal reached a hand out, however, the Shire's head snaked around, lips drawn back to expose square teeth. Quick as a thought, the reins in the opposite hand came around and smacked smartly across Mil's nose. The big head jerked backward in shock, and in a commanding voice, Callum ordered him, Knock it off.

The next time his hand moved toward Mil's nose, it made contact, and the bridle soon followed. Cal forced the stall door open, releasing Milité from his box, and led him toward the storeroom. He hated putting the blanket and the heavy saddle on the Shire's back, cut up as it was from the implosion of the window and irritated by the salt water, but Cal did not trust the stallion to follow other horses well and therefore had to be atop his back with some way to secure other horses to himself. Once the saddle was secure, Cal looped the reins on a hook and went back to help Tenny halter the rest of the steeds, already considering the ones he would lead.

Ooc I'm excluding Damon since he's already part of Group 4. I still have full PP control permission from Rath over Rurik. Basically just getting Seeker ready and Buckeye haltered, didn't want to assume more than that. Also if anyone notices any inconsistencies between my posts for either Veri or Guin during all this chaos, let me know.

It didn't take much time for nearly all of the members to be gathered in one area, which made it easier for Veri and Morty to count heads and check injuries. Still, her mixed blue orbs could not find either of her children among the group and this worried her greatly. She could not bear to lose either one of them. A glance in Rurik's direction assured her that he was still there and hadn't disappeared. His ears flicked in all directions as he listened to their surroundings and stood watch over the group she'd taken under her wing. There was a faint rumble that she heard in the distance but paid it no mind, more focused on her pack mates and their health. Abruptly there was a wrench on her shoulder and she turned to see Rurik there, his eyes blazing with...fear?

Before she could question him he yanked her toward the fountain in the middle of the square and squished her against it with his body literally at the same exact time Luca called out a warning. She had enough time to take a deep breath and bury her muzzle into Rurik's chest before the wave hit them. It rocked them around pretty good, nearly breaking Rurik's grip on the fountain several times, but he held on, and she held onto him, until the force of the water had subsided. She could hear her pack mates picking themselves up but the highest cries were the distressed sounds of the horses coming from the stable.

As soon as she was able she ducked around Rurik and dashed toward the stable. Well, sloshed. The water made her so much slower, and her height did little to help. Arms encircled her shoulders and knees and lifted her above the water to carry her in a strong grip in the same direction she'd been going. Veri didn't have to check to know that it was Rurik who'd picked her up, and she didn't bother to, her attention was riveted to the stables, where Lyris, Grynn, and Callum were also headed. From the corner of her eye she saw Tennyson with armfuls of halters. The Famiglia lifted her hand to her mouth and whistled as shrilly as she could manage.

To her utter relief there was a responding whinny from what sounded like behind the stable? If Seeker had been outside the Fort that was even better, he wouldn't have been assaulted with the worst of the wave, but that notion was collapsed as he appeared, snorting repeatedly and soaked from ears to tail. The whites of his eyes were visible and he shook all over from distress but the stallion didn't pull away when she reached out to him and patted his nose once he was in arms reach. "Good boy," she told him. He followed Rurik toward the stable until they were close enough to the Cavallo to speak normally. The male put her down and she nodded to Lyris and Grynn as they came closer.

Veri gestured for Tennyson to share some of his halters and he obliged before moving on to his next equine target. Seeker didn't need a halter in order to listen for commands, or even to be led, but Rurik needed a demonstration on how to use one. Her dark furred friend paid close attention to what loops went around what and how to secure the whole piece behind a horse's ears. Satisfied that he knew how the halter worked she gave him quick instructions on how to not further spook a horse. The male followed her into the stable after she gave Seeker a brief command to make sure he stayed put unless the stallion felt threatened. Her next target was getting Seeker's bridle and saddle. She didn't need a saddle to ride him, but it would help for leading, and she'd never perfected the art of riding with no bridle.

Equipment gotten, she motioned for Rurik to get Buckeye haltered while she focused on getting Seeker geared up.

hollowing souls

Something cold nudged her shoulder. Lyris whipped to the right, for some reason expecting the need to defend herself to arise in all of this chaos, but instead what she found was a white and black-splashed face shoved up next to hers, the familiar, dark and intelligent eyes of a horse meeting her own. "That's my boy." She smiled, the reaction leaping from her naturally in a state of pure, washed relief, and she couldn't help but pause to give Kenyon a heavy pat on the neck and brush over the nose. Callum swept by, and she caught his amber eyes only briefly, and with a reassuring squeeze, he was gone. She could at least trust him to know what to do. Grynn swung open the stable doors, and inside she went, Lyris following close behind, and Kenyon bringing up the rear. The Cavallo jerked her head towards the back of the building, vanishing into a nearby stall. "Get as much rope as you can carry. I'll be there in two seconds." The female then saddled Kenyon quicker than ever before. She would have preferred to ride bareback, as it appeared some of the stallion's withers had been singed and the last thing she wanted to do was force an itchy blanket or weight onto him, but if they were going to lead anybody out of here, it needed to be done. Snapping on a blanket and the heaving on the saddle as if it weighed next to nothing, Lyris snapped and tightened the restraints and then pulled a halter over the steed's head, clipping it into place and throwing the reins over his back before dashing out of the stall to meet Grynn waddling out of the back with armfuls of just what she had asked for. Lyris took much of the weight and draped it over Kenyon's saddle. "I'll go find as many strays as I can and lead them by foot." All that the Stryder could do was nod in gratitude that the woman knew exactly what to do, and together they sloshed back out into the tattered Fort.

Grynn split, heading East while Lyris went West, Kenyon only ever a foot behind and to her right. Eventually she managed to relocate Tennyson and Callum, who seemed to be attempting to gain control over Milite. Her adopted brother was victorious, in the end, and as soon as he was Lyris lifted several rings of rope from Kenyon's back and tossed half to each of the Knights. "Tennyson, find a mount and as many strays as you can. Callum, grab the biggest." After Callum made an acknowledgement and began his trek off into the Fort to save the most mighty of the steeds, Veri and Rurik appeared. Before the fellow female could turn and be gone, Lyris grabbed her shoulder and dropped a few rings of rope into her arms. "Halter and lead as many horses as you can with Seeker. Tennyson will take Buckeye." The brindled man nodded, and trailed after Rurik to Buckeye, where he would lead him to get saddled and then begin his own search and rescue. Lyris gave Veri a final nod and then turned to place her palms on Kenyon's damp shoulder. "Let's do this, kid."

Just as the hushed words left her mouth, a faint rumble bubbled under Lyris' ribs, and she immediately turned to glance with dark eyes over her shoulder to witness another black wall poised with intimidation and hurtling towards the wall of the Fort once again. "Wave!" She barked as loud as she could over the gathering din, and then heard a crack as water met stone. Hundreds of gallons spilled like Armageddon into her home, and Lyris was pulled off her feet again. Swallowing salty water, her throat burned, and she opened her eyes to black. Her svelte body was thrown against the earth, which was ironically submerged beneath the sea. Wincing and inhaling another mouthful of salty tang, Lyris struck out with her hands and managed to dig her fingers into a nearby tangle of weeds and grass just as the water started to pull back again. Pushing with her haunches, the mother burst to air and found her footing, fingers pressed to her chest as she coughed and coughed and coughed. A heavy, solid body appeared in front of her, and she tipped forward, using Kenyon's strong form to stay upright and expel the invasive liquid from her lungs. The water was thigh-high, now. They were losing time. Allowing herself only a few more moments to regain her breath, Lyris gave her stallion a kiss on the nose and then pulled herself to his mount, gripping the reins and giving him a nudge. Off he shot at as quick a trot was possible in the floods, heading directly for Shasta's dripping, shivering form. Leaning down, the mother looped her lead of rope and wrapped it gently over the colt's throat, tying the end to the horn of Kenyon's saddle. Shasta followed without question or hesitation into the gloom.

((400+)) Lyris will be rounding up Shasta, Bonnie, Lyra, and Nevada. Tennyson will be riding Buckeye and gather up Lola's horses as well as Ears, and Grynn will be tying and leading horses on foot. Any not mentioned by Katie or I are assumed to be wandering and can reference being tied and led!
