Chain of memories

Lyris

The newest addition to the steadily growing family was growing fairly quick herself. It felt as if it had been just days since she had first come into the world, now she was a good sized bundle of fur, already a month old and babbling constantly. It seemed as if any time Night was awake, she was trying to make conversation with that little incoherent puppy babble of hers. Every once in a while, an actual word would slip in, but more often then not it was just nonsense that couldn't be deciphered as words.

Once again, Hartt had the dark little bundle outside to play. The little thing just seemed to love the snow and only seemed that much more ecstatic that her friend, Remus, had come out to play with her again. The white fae remained seated on the steps leading up to the fort, blue eyes watching the pair of pups chase after each other. Every once in a while one of them would tackle the other, or Remus would simply flop over and allow Night to feel like she had been the one to knock him over. It was just adorable watching them play together, but it made Hartt wish she had produced more than one pup. Then her little girl could have had a playmate almost constantly and not just whenever the other Cavalier pups wanted to come out and play. At least Remus continuously seemed willing to join the Hushhowl girl in play.

I AM A SLOW LAME (+315)

Lyris felt the burn to return to her roots, and so she did. With more motivation to complete her chores quickly that morning, Lyris had fed and watered the horses and led them to their pasture for grazing, briefly checked in on the cows and their newborns, and then vanished promptly from the Fort. She ran for a long while in her Lupus figure, welcoming the burn that blossomed throughout her muscles and the rawness of her throat caused by her consistent heavy breathing. The feral woman had not felt such fulfilling freedom for a long while.

Though snow still blanketed the forest, the sky was clear, and the pale backdrop only served to enhance Lyris's ability to seize prey without their awareness. After her lengthy run, Lyris had bagged a rabbit, fairly weighted despite the winter deadness, and turned back with the prize hanging from her scarred jaws. She arrived home as the sun was declining, making her first appearance in Kingsbury that was after the break of dawn. Following the addition of the rabbit to the communal stores, the white-furred woman returned to pacing the edge of the Fort, pleased with the rubbery exhaustion of her legs, evidence of a successful sprint. It was then that she spotted a familiar pale figure and a pair of moving puppies rolling across the grass.

The Lupus Mani took a seat astride Hartt and watched the woman's daughter play with Lyris's son. A rare expression of fondness shadowed the mother's features, but only for the split of a second. It quickly returned to be reserved. "Pretty soon she will be participating in her First Blood." She commented almost apologetically, glancing to the dark-tinted figure of Remus who pawed at the fellow pup. The fact that her own offspring already had mentors was quite absurd- certainly, other mothers felt the same unimaginably quick passing of time?

Hartt had never participated in any sort of coming of age ceremony or ever even really had an option for mentors. She and Dark had raised their pups on their own. They taught their pups to hunt, to protect themselves, it was only ever them. The thought that her youngest would have another to look after her and care for her was just beyond the white faes imagination. Even more so was the fact that so much time had already passed. It seemed just the other day her little girl was barely able to open her eyes, now she was playing and growing so fast.

A familiar figure approached and sat beside her, the pups now being watched by a pair of white females. The other woman spoke up, stating that soon Night would have her First Blood. Hartt simply nodded, a soft smile on her face. The days go by too fast, don't they? Soon, your own will have shifted as well. Time could be so cruel sometimes. Hartt would have wanted nothing more than to have her little girl stay a little girl forever, but she would grow quicker than the mother would hope, become a strong female, and start a family of her own.

slow slow slow (+358)

As Lyris sat astride Hartt, she could not help but remember the first time they had met. It had not been here, oh no- rather years ago, in the midst of New Dawn in its prime time. They had both been very different then. Both a little bit less tattered. Hartt, of course, had been with Darkness for quite some time, whereas Lyris still clung to her frozen cold heart and Asgeir's friendship as her only true connection with any other Luperci. They hadn't gotten to know eachother very well, but when Hartt and Darkness did not immediately appear after New Dawn was dissolved by Anathema's aggression, she noticed. All of her fellow Dawners were bright on her mind at the time, and she had hoped to see every one of them alive. Of course, such was not the case. She'd heard the names of those whose bodies had littered the forest, far away. Names that she had known. Faces she had lived with, slept in the same communal den among.

Hartt replied, and Lyris shook her head violently, dispelling the darkness that clouded it. Glancing upon Remus and Night scuffling, her heart was eased, if only just. It was not easy for one to forget such a loss. "I fear as much. I never thought I would be the mothering type." Lyris mused, her voice quiet and blatantly honest. They then sat in content silence for a few moments, white woman stood next to white woman, before the Labor Head spoke once more.

"When did you learn of New Dawn's fate?" The question held another part, one that Lyris did not speak. Do you miss it? The ex-Dawner knew that both Hartt and Darkness had had several issues within the pack concerning one of Hartt's earlier pregnancies, and it had even been so severe to place Hartt in the lowly Parish ranking, but in the end it had been resolved and it was still home. They'd had a happy ending, for a while. Lyris's departure from New Dawn had never been due to her discomfort within the pack, and so she often still longed for it.
