All their voices can be heard, long past woodland days

Early evening gave a glow to the sky that was wondrous to behold. She had seen many like it and hopefully would see many more but the swirls and plays of color in the skies never failed to take her breath away. Evenings beyond count she had run or hunted beneath the painted skies, she had looked up and seen the first twinklings of the stars beginning to peek out from beneath the sun's glow.

Sometimes the aurora was there with the falling of night too and those night's were most precious and cherished.

Tonight was one of those nights and Kjintora watched with her, at the faint flashes of green and purple flitted across the horizon. Like wolves at play, daring each other to leap the highest or longest.

The aging woman's soft tones filtered out through the air, raised in a poem that was almost a song, it was an ancient thing to her people, passed through time unknown,

"...Honrin meet the sky and gives
Us gentle summer days
As the sun shine down on us
Watch us grow strong again
Under your rest we grow
Wait till winter night

Dalgina sail over us
Dark beauty of the night
We cry to her in her time
The moon that cradles us
Fierce battles of the north
Artoi watches over all."

The granddaughter sang alone quietly, letting her gentle voice be eclipsed by the elder as was tradition.

It was something new for the scholar to behold and study. Ribbons of light and colour divided the heaven from earth on this night. Everett smiled at the wonder of it, and wished in that moment there was a method of capturing it. As this was not the case, he stared and hoped that the image would seep into his mind to be re-visited later.

The aurora shifted above, as the man’s pale coat became awash with the changing tones of the night. His ears twitched forward as song drifted in the air. Something primal and ancient called to his inner being and lured him towards it. Everett let himself be moved by the hymn as it soared and joined with another.

The joining of another voice was subtle to the male’s ear. His steps had brought him to the familiar den-site of the Wolfe-Denahlii clan. The matriarch’s scent filled his nose, and was soon joined by another feminine scent. Everett found the women sat together, and silently seated himself between them.

Lost to the spectacle of it; celestial light painted the women as it danced across their bodies. The sound mimicked the twisting aurora, ebbing and flowing. The scholar dared not breathe until the song had lingered into silence. Rapt eyes glanced from Jace to Kjintora, his voice muted, “What an honour! That was beautiful.”

From the two paler females the twisting snaking reflections of color bounced from their pelts, echoing the playful streams far above, it was a show unlike any Jace had ever seen outside of it. A third pale form made its way out of the darkening forests and joined them at their camp. Jace barely acknowledged him other than a glance but Kjintora smiled and shuffled up to make room for him.

The aged woman and the younger grandchild continued on though, as though their guest were not present, singing to the aurora in a twisting tale that was older than any of them.

The song died away into a still, contemplative silence that was summarily broken by Everett. Jace gave a nod, and her voice was hoarse from the singing,

"You're welcome." For a gratitude unspoken but there anyway, Kjintora fiddled with the hem of her clothes and then chimed in,

"Grandmama sings it best." Jace smiled, a true and warm thing for her grandchild, a rare sight for an outsider and then the younger turn turned to Everett,

"Do you sing, Everett.?" Sparkling dual eyes, like her grandmother, turned to the smaller man.
