A dark figure with bright green eyes shown from the shadows as she waited for her packmate. Everything leading up to this moment was in a rush, she barely remembered much of it at all.

~~~
Earlier Khyren jad returned back to her room having finished duties around the Fort. After letting Kotori out for the night, the dark figure lowered herself onto her bed. Her feathery friend clicked his beak together twice before lifting off and leaving Khyren to her thoughts. The moon was high and the sky was clear. The soft chirping of crickets and croaks of toads were no comfort to her though. Memories churned in a great typhoon. Paralyzed by her thoughts, and unable to sleep, the woman left.
Seeing Iorek awake she told him to meet her at the training arena if he wants to spar and dashed off. Seeming cool and level headed in the presence of another--was she ever more deceiving. The dark pelted wolf blended right in with the shadows as she headed briskly to the training grounds. Without thinking, the woman did not think to bring a weapon with her. Maybe some good hand-to-hand would be good anyway; keep her sharp and ready for what ever may come proceeding after this session.
~~~

In the present moment Khyren was off to the side of the circle of sand and dirt. Pacing the edge of the clearing, she fought against an impeding anxiety attack. Grounding herself, she thought about Iorek. The large male would be interesting to spar with, but with the gentle nature he previously showed her--he would not be much of a challenge. It wasn't about winning though, this spar may be a good way to show her capabilities to another member of the pack, teach them something she has learned in her many trials of battle.

Optime | Night | July | Training Ring

455 A lot of ramble

See galleries for credit.

A massive figure stood across from the dark warrior, his form was outlined in the moonlight and casting a long and large shadow. Iorek looked even more feral than usual, his hunch more obvious as he automatically tried to find a comfortable stance. At this very moment, the beast would often prefer to be in his halfling shape, since he was the most formidable in that form. But, Khyren wanted a hand-to-hand spar, not a hand-to-handpaw spar so he did best to do as she wished. It didn't mean he liked it, he didn't like it at all to be honest. Taking his Optime form in combat was normally for large opponents, which Khyren would be counted as. Though seeing as he didn't have the advantage of ambush or help from his pack-mates, it would be preferred that he was in the form that he was most comfortable in. And while he found his bipedal form useful and he used it often, the beast didn't normally prefer to spar in this form. He already learned from his spar with Veri a long time ago that shifting during battle was never a good option. Well, the wolfdog already resigned himself to loosing.

The massive medic had taken off some of his accessories in preparation for this spar. The bracelets that would normally wear in this form had been placed in the bag and the only decoration on his arms were the bandages that he always wore on his forearms. The necklaces he wore were tied up to keep them from catching and some of them disappeared in the fur of his neck and chest. The beast's mane only had a few items woven into his mane. There were a couple of feathers woven into his mane and only a couple of necklace chains since he wasn't afforded the average plethora of half a dozen of each type of accessory in his mane. The beast also didn't wear clothes and welcomed the cool night air in his fur as it was a stark difference from what he got in the daytime.

The crimson-eyed Cavalier was never one to initiate the attacks since he was typically a dodge out of the way and try to trick, fake charge, and dodge. He didn't have the small advantage of speed in this form and though the Recruit was inches below his height, she still seemed quicker and not as bulky as the beast. He remembered the lessons that Riley taught him about blocking and the few fights he had in Optime. The odds didn't look good for the beast and he considered shifting down to his comfortable form. But the scarlet-eyed Valiant would see how the first few minutes went.

If Iorek was not hunched he would have easily stood taller then her. But his feral stance and her straight body gave for an even stare. He was much bulkier and fluffier then her, but she knew that he was inexperienced and more passive then the battle hardened warrior. Khyren was in peak physical condition that night. Though she was the most muscular female as she had seen in the pack it did not compare to what male's could acquire through the same training and hard work. This made her envious at times, but she didnt wish for her to be different. Her emerald gaze lay steadily on the wolf-dog. Unaware that he was not one to initiate such things, she nodded to him slightly, walking in an defensive stance at the edge of the ring sideways and waved for him to come at her.

The tall female cleared her mind, stoic as a rock she locked her gaze onto the male. Her fear of male's made her more tense as adrenaline blazed through her veins and prepared to spar.

In previous soars she would have dramatic flash-backs to her families death or previous battles, over the years she had finally learned to accept such things and not seek vengeance against others. It would make no difference. Her family was still dead. Now she had a new one in Casa. And now she would see what this healer was capable of. It filled her with excitement and anticipation. He was a fierce looking chatecter, it might make for a fun spar even despite his passiveness.

Iorek observed Khyren, seeing her obvious battle-hardened stance and the scars marring her body that spoke of battles that she had endured. She seemed to be one of the many warrior women in the pack, possibly similar to the ones that the beast was familiar with; Jace, Teagan, Veri, and Hartt. He knew from experience, from what he had seen and what he had watched, the warriors of Casa were normally of extraordinary caliber, or at least in his opinion. He didn't know too much about her, other than her tree-climbing skill, though the wolfdog knew that that required skill.

The oversized hybrid watched the darkling, his preferred method to get out of the way of any attacks and then come back to use more "sneaky" techniques to try to get the other on the ground. Though he was against another bipedal female while he was also bipedal, not his favorite way to fight. He had some knowledge of other techniques and had learned to block and use pressure points, though he wasn't sure how long he could last in this fight. Well, the giant male could try his best to be a good sparring partner and put up a fight.

The crimson-eyed Cavalier's scarlet gaze watched the woman, figuring out what she would do. He wasn't as coordinated on two legs and was slower in this form compared to his halfling shape, but the two were almost matched in size so he hoped that they'd be even. Well, if all else failed, he knew how to move and shift at the same time. The odds were stacked against him however, though the beast hoped that he could be a good sparring partner. The vermilion-eyed Valiant replied, Y-You c-can g-go f-first, and then got ready to dodge or block any of her attacks.

The large wolf's brow raised momentarily before dropping back into a stoic stare. She rolled her shoulders slowly and loosened her arms, but hardened her fists. Chin tilted upward slightly, she stared him down with icy emerald shards.

To her he was inferior, despite his higher rank his size and abilities as a healer. If he could not defeats her in a spar one day, he would never earn her respect. Not that he needed it for her to still be friendly towards him in the aftermath, but only the individuals in which she respected the most ever come to a point in life as her friend. She would still show respect towards him no matter what, but in secret she would not. It didn't help she wasn't exactly in high spirits that moonlit night.

As you wish, flower prince... The dark huntress thought momentarily before flashing her gaze at the trees behind Iorek in a false game if he noticed to distract him from her impending advancement. It was just a small thing to set up a large move. Black calfs tightened and her muscular form tensed milliseconds before dashing into the open. She streaked across the dirt like a shadow; her scars like stars scattering her pelt. Never keeping her eyes off him there after, the woman attempted to dodge any impending counter attack ment to throw her off balance or block advancement and swirved around behind the male in one swift movement.

She wasn't the fastest, but she was faster then him.

Hitting him in the back of his knees firmly, she then bent down and swung one leg beneath him to loose his footing in turn spiraled away from range of his large paws and jaws. Returning to an erect stance, her gaze narrowed and burned brightly in the darkness. Emotionless and cold.

No one is safe from nature's savagery, not even the innocent. Only beauty is consistent
None of us really changes over time. We only become more fully what we are.

Iorek watched as Khyren prepared herself once he gave her the okay. His stance was guarded, as he kept himself lower in a more feral stance as it was easiest for the beast to balance with his weight more on his thighs. His arms and hands were ready to block or lunge if she attacked him head-on. He was more suited towards close-quarter combat while in his Optime shape, as he could easily overpower an opponent once he had them in his grasp. With the large amount of space, an opponent was more likely to get the upperhand of the oversized wolfdog.

The massive hybrid was unprepared for the woman's attack as she became a streak of ebony in the moonlit darkness. He tried to grab her and pull her towards him to try to restrain or pin her, but she evaded him easily. Before he knew it, the warrior woman was behind him and he knew that it would all go down from there. Her strike hit him in the back of his knees and then she swept him off of his feet. The feral giant landed on his hands, deciding that now would be the time to use plan B.

The brown behemoth began shifting as soon as he hit the ground, keeping an eye on the darkling as he shifted. The beast could still move, even in the process of shifting as he was no stranger to shifting while moving and paced in a half-circle as he shifted. The beast was a quicker shifter due to his constant switching between forms. His torso expanded outwards to form a deep chest as his fur began to lengthen even more. He began to shrink in size, his arms shortening to be more suitable for quadrupedal movement. As his arms changed, his fingers began to shorten as his hands became hand-paws while his legs began to shorten to match his forelegs in length. In roughly three minutes, the chocolate and cream brute completed his shifting.

The crimson-eyed Cavalier shook his mane out as he stopped his pacing and faced the Recruit. He had sparred against Optime opponents before, but they had had weapons. He began to paw at the ground and kept his head low, almost like he was trying to impersonate a bull. And then, the beast charged, rearing up to try to knock the female over. Normally, he wouldn't have gone for the attack without making some false charges, but he wanted to see how the woman would handle the attack. The vermilion-eyed Valiant would go easy on her until he could tell that she could handle it.

Through it all, the woman took meticulous notes of his stance and predicted upcoming actions. Her green eyes never straying from Iorek's large form from there on. Instead of using his optime form as a higher advantage, the male remained guarded and feral. The attempts he made to grab her had faltered, and now he was on his knees. The medic would have to try a difforent tactic, but what came next was not as she expected. As he shifted, the moments passed and she did nothing. The dark huntress knew if she attacked him now while shifting, she could seriously hurt him. Abstaining, she walked around behind him, looking down on his increasingly feral form with crossed arms. "Never shift while fighting, unless you are out of sight of your enemy. You are most vulnerable like this," Bones popped and flesh churned benieth his pelt, but she barely grimaced.

Hoping she would take his advice next time around, she readied for his retaliation as the wolf-dog finished shifting. She had to say--he was a quick shifter, but not quick enough to avoid being killed if he was in a real fight. His large paws scrapping at the ground did not phase her with the bullish action. His charge was steady and she could tell there was alot of muscle and strength in her competitor. Unfortunately, she could see right through him. Side stepping easily away from his large form rearing up upon her, a swift shadow turned back upon his bearish appearance. She crouched slightly in nore an offensive or defensive stance, but she stayed on her toes, ready to move again.

His weight and lack of speed made it assumable that the male would be carried away by his momentum. As large as he was and as fierce, he needed to get more strategic if he would get the upperhand. Iorek's bob tail also wouod be a disadvantage as it would not give him as good balance when making turns and ajusting his speed as Khyren. His stocky form though would keep him from being thrown to the ground by his mass though, she thought, ready for whatever Iorek would bring next. Hopefully he was not going easy on her, it would be no fun that way. "Use your weight to your advantage, find a weakness and exploit it. Don't just charge at an opponent you know has more agility, they will evade your attacks, and you will be left in the dust." she studied his every movement.

Khyren had her weaknesses of course, she had many as any would, but it's finding a way to bring them to light would be the challenge. Not to mention finding a way to get an angle. She was particularly sensitive on her ribs between her arms, and kept her arms close in almost a boxer form, only to lash out with force when she needs to. There were a number of other things a large male like him could take advantage of if he was observant enough. Her form, her stance, her fighting style, her focus, what was around them--play dirty, fight hard. Show me what you got! Her smile challenged.

Sorry for the wait! Minor pp (I think?) lmk if anything needs to be edited! Also blaze it >> [420]

Iorek was thankful that Kyhren didn't attack him during shifting; he knew that shifting during combat wasn't a good idea, but what chance did he have when he was at a severe disadvantage against a skilled opponent? He had learned the consequences from his spar with Veri - which had been close to a year ago - and he rarely shifted during battle until now. The beast normally shifted outside of the fight; he shifted in hiding or removed himself from the battle - he was no novice at battle. The wolfdog gave an ornery shake of his head as he finished and then attacked again.

The lunge that the brown behemoth aimed at the dark-colored she-wolf established that she was quick on her feet despite her large size. He had never sparred against her, nor had he seen her in combat, so he had to establish what kind of fighter she was. Yes, he wouldn't have that luxury in some battles, but it helped in this one. The beast knew that if anything, she had speed on her side, though he wasn't sure about her strength. She rivaled him in height, though not in weight so he could figure things out from there. The oversized hybrid recovered quickly and stalked back around.

And then the woman spoke, giving the chocolate and cream brute advice on things he already knew. What did she think he was? He couldn't recall if he had ever mentioned his ranking and role in the Brotherhood, the master of tooth and claw; while he had still been working towards the title of master since he had ascended to the role in the winter, he had been hard at work sparring and training to prove that he was worthy of the rank. The hulking halfling stalked in a half-circle and then said, "I'm th-the master o-of tooth a-and claw i-in th-the Brotherhood," as if pointing out that he already knew that.

And then the crimson-eyed Cavalier charged at the female - a faked one - that he jumped and missed, though turned on a dime one he landed behind her and then lunged upwards again, aiming towards her back. He wasn't one to use his strength and weight in battle, but rather use tricks and misdirection to aid him in his fights. He dodged when he could with his quick reflexes, though that wasn't his greatest weapon. The scarlet-eyed Lionheart used his appearance to subvert their expectations - they expected him to use his greater weight and strength, not misdirection and tricks.

Despite her perscipacity of many things, she did not know or even acknowledge his previous level of training. It didnt matter to Khyren how many training sessions he had, or how many battles he fought. This spar, or any battle happening in that matter, was an expression of what he was capable of. The here and the now was all that mattered to her. She had never fought alongside him or soarred before; how could she know his expertise in tooth and claw? In the style of fighting they were doing, it may come in handy for Iorek.

A mear twitch pf her brow was all she gave to his statement of rank. In battle rank didn't matter, and she was enveloped in the battle as of right then. She focused her eyes upon him like prey and she remained statued in the same possition, awaiting his attack, but what she didnt realize was just how capable the enemy can be even after prior assessment.

When he charged the woman side stepped just as easily as before. Expecting him to ready again another charge, she was pleasently suprised by the hulking male's change of tactic. As he turned and pounced from behind, she had milli-seconds to turn and-or get out of the way. Her mouth barred in a smile and a snarl of challenge. As quick as she could, Khyren slide from under the behemoth as he came at her in a large ball of fury and strength. Fear struck her heart for a split second at the sight of it. He is truely a bear of a male... She thought and slipped from the reach of his hulking form.

Unfortunately her scarred ankle pulled with the sudden strain of getting out of the way of such a mammoth creature and it fell to the jaws of her competitor. She growled and spun to twust out of his grasp, collect herself, and counter his attack as quickly as she could muster.

In a dark streak she struck. Her hands balled into a fist, scarred nuckles met the burly mass that was his face. Her knuckles all popped simultaneously and she felt the hard surface that of his skull break the skin of one of her index joint. The force of the punch quickly turned into a barrel role to the side of him to try give two quick strikes to the hip. Then swirve bellow any attacks he give to grab her or being her to the ground in anyway.

She knew--if he got her in his jaws or benieth the weighth of him, she would be trapped like a tree benieth a fallen boulder. Though she was tough, flexible and strong. The sheer force and weight of him could crush her.

420 TL;DR Iorek lets go and takes the hit as he tries to figure out if he hit Khyren or not. And then he acts like he's a cat about to pounce, but is either going to charge her or pass and go for her side.
As always, lmk if anything needs to be edited <3

Iorek was not exceptionally fast and even with his reflexes, his speed left much to be desired when it came to some things. He wouldn't say he really did envy those smaller than himself, though smaller size did come in handy in many situations. He was often slowed down by his bulk as in fights if he caught someone prepared, they could easily dodge out of the way of his attacks. That was why he relied on misdirect and tricks, since there wasn't much of a way for him to catch his opponents off-guard, since if the wolfdog charged them head on, they'd see it coming.

Khyren had initially dodged the first leap from the oversized hybrid - something he had already expected - but seemed to be caught off-guard by the second leap. She did manage to avoid the brunt of his attack as she slid under him, however she did seem a bit to slow and the beast's jaws caught her leg. He grabbed it in his teeth, though was careful as to not draw blood; he would rather keep injuries to a minimum. The beast felt the blows to his head, though his thick skull was able to take it and he didn't let go. Well, until the scent of blood was in the air and the massive halfling immediately let go as he thought that his teeth had bitten into the Recruit's leg.

The woman rolled out and landed two strikes to the dark-pointed giant's hip and he did little as he searched for the source of the blood. Apparently, it wasn't her leg as he saw no crimson from bite marks - though it was particularly difficult to search for the source of the blood as the woman woman's dark fur concealed the evidence. The hulking hybrid shook his head as he again fixed her in his sights as he got ready.

The crimson-eyed Cavalier knew that she wouldn't fall for the same trick again, so he decided to try something new for a change. He slowly began to stalk towards her, seeming more like a predatory feline than a canine. He would try to get close enough, though out of reach of any of the kicks that she seemed fond of as he seemed to be getting ready to pounce upward. He would then instead shoot forwards to try and charge and try to knock her over. If she dodged, the scarlet-eyed Lionheart would pass her and then try to go for his side as he passed.
