Word Count → 253 :: Ansel and Ryker seeking a place to wait out the rain ~
Even an ocean away he couldn't escape from it; the hands, the voices, the lecherous look in a drunks eye, all of it might no longer be in the present, but it lingered in his dreams, nightmares haunting each night whenever he let his guard down. No matter how hard he tried to distance himself from his past, there was ultimately no escape. It was a piece of him now, this dirty thing that he couldn't ever be rid off, his only comfort being that it could off been worse, that he wasn't there now.

Not that his current situation was drastically better or anything to boast about. Struggling to hunt and keep themselves fed from day to day, the word wanted to shit on them one more time, the sky opening up to rain. Without shelter, the brothers were soaked through to their very bones before they knew it, shivering with each step, too exhausted to even argue with each other. It was but one small comfort that with the rain temperatures had seemed to pick up, although his empty stomach refused to see anything in a positive light just that second.

Stomach groaning as if triggered by his thoughts, he rubbed across the hollow flat of his stomach, forcing his paws to carry him forward. There was no real destination in mind, for given the time they'd spent there, all they'd achieved is being disillusioned and having their plans destroyed. For now they'd find shelter, just to make it through today.

Word Count → 321 :: Hope ya don't mind me dropping in! Since you didn't specify the exact location, I just assumed this took place somewhere between the Pictou River and Inferni lands (along the base of the Halcyon mountains). Let me know if I should change anything!

The downpour had come suddenly, catching the coyjackal off-guard when the first few droplets had fallen.

His short fur didn’t do much to insulate him from torrent, as it was designed for the warmer climates of his mother’s homeland, leaving him cold and miserable from the fluctuating weather. The slender male had been on a fishing outing far from Inferni borders when the shower had begun, completely drenching him and the netting slung across his back containing the few fish he had managed to snag.

Halfway through his trek back, a faint rustling of leaves snapped him to attention. Eyes narrowing, the Sciens drew closer, careful to keep himself concealed until he was sure the source of the sound posed no threat to him -- wolves roamed rampant throughout the packless territories, after all, and he was taking no chances this far from Inferni’s borders. Through the rain-induced gloom he could make out two huddled forms trudging through the mud, both silhouettes clearly soaked through and visibly shivering. Upon closer inspection, the two strangers looked more akin to dogs than anything -- most likely loners, as they didn’t seem like they were seeking shelter within their respective homes.

He briefly entertained the idea of just leaving the pair in the rain to continue on their own merry little ways; it was none of his business where they were headed, anyways, and he usually avoided social confrontations with his packmates -- much less strangers -- as they typically left him feeling alienated and irritable. Despite all that, however, he couldn’t find it in himself to turn away, knowing all too well the numbing agony of waiting out the unrelenting rain without shelter from his less-than-stellar upbringing.

With a barely audible groan, Noel stepped out from the underbrush to face the unfamiliar duo and forced his clenched jaws open. “... Hey,” he called out hesitantly over the din of the downpour. “You two lost out here?”

Word Count → 310 :: Thanks for joining! And totally location flexible (so long as it's not super close to any packs).
Huddling close to his brother as they moved, he turned off all his senses, moving on auto pilot and trusting that Ryker wasn't doing the same – out of the two of them, it had always been Ryker who was the more responsible and out going, who enjoyed planning things and leading. Unlike his darker sibling he was a follower, much happy to wash his hands of the responsibility of choice, of anything really.

He missed the male standing off to the side, wouldn't of even bothered to lift his head and looked, curled into himself to try and avoid the rain as much as possible. Reacting tot he tension and shift in posture of Ryker, he slowly turned, freezing upon finally registering the presence of a male. Inching back, he shifted his body, putting his brother between him and their company as he always did, Ryker's shoulder squaring, head lifting as he waved a hand in greeting to the male.

“Nah, just looking for shelter from all this rain. You don't happen to know of a place nearby where we can get out of it for a bit?” Ryker responded, instantly jumping to the point without his usual fanfare. Whilst he normally loathed his brothers need to socialise and approach others, in this instance he was grateful for it, if it meant they could get out of the rain for awhile.
