Greed wasn't sure how many days he'd been on the run. The night seemed to blend with day, and the days seemed to drag. At night, he was most safe. As an expert of stealth, the darkness was his greatest ally. The umber king was tattered. Fresh wounds encompassed his lithe form. His hair and fur were crispy from dried blood. He was in pain. He rested when he could, but it was never more than a few minutes at a time. He needed to keep moving. Soon, he could cover his trail. He just needed a gap between them and himself. The few wounds that still leaked fresh blood any time he made a wrong move made it impossible for him to disguise his scent. The mud he had caked onto his form wasn't helping although it did soothe the searing of his flesh.

He'd made a mistake. Up until now he had escaped with nothing more than a scratch and always gained something in return for his blood. Up until now, he had been relatively smart in his choices. He chose small groups or single passerby's as targets. It wasn't enough. Not even the war he waged with his brother helped numb the sorrow or fill the void. This time, he bit of more than he could chew and suffered the consequences. Enenra was gone. His newly named Onryo was gone. Every possession he held of any value had been taken from him. The only thing he had left were the clothes underneath his handsome armor, but even those were torn to shreds. Now, not even his appearance rang of the soul he once was. Surely nobody would recognize him if they saw him in this sorry state. Not even he recognized himself. The word fool rang in his head for he knew he'd gone too far. If he thought he had reached his lowest point before, he'd been wrong.

Greed was tracking that same group of mercenaries for several nights, unnoticed. He'd even stolen quite a bit in those lucky hours. Everything he took was stashed away opposite of where he was running and more towards his pack. Those possessions mattered little now compared to what he lost. The fallen king found refuge inside the trunk of a large tree. He slathered more mud over his injured body in hopes he had finally lost them. The summer air was wet with moisture from a freshly fallen shower, just what he needed to find the opening he needed to head back home. He waited. The sun was beginning to rise and he was able to remain in the same spot for the entire night. The umber Lykoi even managed to fall into a light slumber. He awoke with surprise as his ears caught the sound of footsteps shifting not too far off. Do they ever give up?! He muttered as he exited his resting spot and began his journey into the woods and farther away from the pack. There was no way he would lead these bastards back to what he had left of importance.

With a sharp amber glare, Greed continued onward. His wounds were now dry with mud and no longer leaked the scent of his life force. Good, now he could formulate a way out of the hole he'd dug himself into.

The pale furred imp had spent many hours and many days now training with her younger, but still much larger brother to gain strength where she lacked it. The pale furred fighter had been overpowered before, whenever she lost her footing or was struck it could certainly mean death for the imp, she was so small, she needed to train excessively to even be as physically powerful as the average luperci, but still she was getting stronger, and what she still lacked in strength the tiny warrior made up for in speed and agility.

The silver Lykoi had acquired a new addition to his arsenal of iron maidens recently and had been battling Nyx with it, a seven foot polearm with a studded hammer at one end and a long spike at the reverse of the hammer head and an even longer spike extending past the hammer head straight from the length of the pole itself. He'd told the smaller female that his weapon was good for piercing and crushing armor. While Wrath trained with this weapon which he had called a Lucerne hammer, Nyx trained with the gift that had been given to her by the very same male, a six foot polearm with a simply shaped scimitar like blade extending straight from one end which the male had referred to as a naginata, and whom Nyx had named Reza.

Nyx found this weapon to be quite versatile and favorable to adapt to, it wasn't so lightweight that it wouldn't cause serious damage, but it was light enough that she could swing it around and even use the pole itself to give the warrior leverage in a jump or kick if she planted the blunt end against the ground like a vaulting pole. Despite the length of the weapon, the small warrior did not find that it impeded her movement much if at all when moving through dense forest, she could simply hold the weapon down at her side rather than have it holstered to her back and snagging branches as she moved through the woods.

In training her, Wrath and Nyx had had many long talks on things concerning philosophy and simple facts of life even, and so it was in this way that the snow colored warrior had come to know that their umber furred brother, Greed, had been up to no good since the loss of his child to the sickness. This fact burned at Nyx a bit, but she sympathized with the grieving male, she truly did.

Now however, Nyx set aside Reza and made her way out into the woods. It had been some time since the fighting female had consumed a substantial meal and she thought it was about time that she went hunting. Trekking out into the untamed no mans land that was the unclaimed area between packs, Nyx scented the air in search of the smell of prey, but soon thereafter the snowy female scented something else, something much less favorable. There were loners nearby, and apart from that Nyx smelled her brother, he'd gone through this way not too long before and the smell of blood permeated the air with him. The smell was faint, but being a seasoned tracker the small female wasn't slow to pick up the signs. There were patches of mud that had been disturbed, small droplets of a rusty black color scattered here and there as if Greed had still been bleeding as he fled.

Well, if Nyx was one to swear, she certainly would have then, but now was not the time to sit around and wait, she had to find Greed. There was a detour made in the direction of a stream where the female would travel along within the waters, both to dilute her own scent, and to make it seem as though she were not someone of interest to whoever was tracking Greed. She couldn't let them know that she was tracking her brother as well. It had been a long day and with any luck whoever these people were would have set up camp somewhere and given Nyx time enough to continue on through the night and find her wounded sibling.

Doing a bit of meandering around the river, scrubbing her fur in mud and the strongly scented pine needles to rid herself of the scent of Anathema, Nyx made a roundabout way back in the direction of the trail, and she picked it up again further along, simply crossing over the path and continuing on a tangent. It was dark out, sunset had long passed by this point and the physical traces of the male's trail were harder to pick up on, but Nyx's powerful sense of smell lead her onward, and eventually to an old rotted out stump that smelled freshly of the female's brother, and strongly as well. He must have slept there, as the sun was rising and Nyx could make out bits of flaked mud on the ground leading off into the woods.

She ran to catch up now, exhausted and eager to find her brother mostly unharmed, he was heading further and further away from Anathema, and Nyx understood why. He was being pursued, and whoever it was could not know where the male lived lest he find a weakness or threaten the safety of his pack. Nyx would not allow this either, she had a different plan. She ran and soon she could hear her brother ahead of her, he was running as well, and the small female let out a soft bark to get his attention, hoping that the umber king would recognize his sisters voice.

Once he'd stopped and looked back at her, Nyx walked up to her brother, looking up and down at his tattered form caked in mud and his own dried blood, and the soft female nearly began to tear up with the relief she felt, but instead, the teary eyed female hardened herself and a white hand reached out with the striking speed of a cobra and she slapped his cheek. Amethyst eyes blazed as she looked at him and with a wavering voice said "B-brother y-you idiot..." Before she grabbed his hand and pulled him off towards the water, praying that the male would not resist her.

OOC: Jumps up and down. :D

The solid hour or two of sleep he'd gotten wasn't enough. His form ached from his battle and the ongoing journey he ventured. His eyes burned form lack of true sleep and his mind was foggy. Even in this shape, Greed was sharp. He was fighting for his life, he needed to be sharp. He needed to be the charming Anatheman prince he was before all this happened. He needed to be the king he'd been striving so hard to become. He wouldn't let these mercenaries fallow him back home. There was no way in hell he would bring his problem back with him, and so, he kept moving forward.

The group fallowing him had yet to catch up or make any decent progress towards his position. That meant, they were losing him. Even so, they were determined to find him and most likely skin him and sell his pelt for a pretty penny. He was sure he deserved it too after everything he put his family through. He wasn't ready to admit it though. With a grunt, Greed trekked onward. Each step caused cracks in his makeshift armor and made the wounds beneath sting sharply. He needed a medic. With the wounds still open and covered in filth, he would surely fall to infection. Now he wished he'd dove into the art of medicine before his life spiraled out of control. At least then, he would be able to help himself in his own times of need. The umber king scoffed and shook his head, raising a hand characteristically to run through his hair only to stop when it met the crunchy mess.

It was growing warmer and the sun was rising higher now. The daytime, his current rival, would hinder his progress. He just needed to make it through one more night and he believed he'd be safe. As he took a breath to steady his mind, a quick bark caused his ears to swivel back. His lips curled for only a moment before he realized the voice was familiar. He didn't dare turn towards the Malphas. He was so close to escaping on his own and not having to tell a soul what happened out here. All he offered was the flash of a glance before he stopped and faced forward in subtle embarrassment. He was so happy to see her, yet he couldn't face her. Greed sighed and finally turned towards her as she walked towards him. He did what he did best, or used to do best, and placed a charming smile on his lips.

Nyx. He offered in an elongated fashion and held his arms out to accept a hug. It was all too clear he wasn't going to receive one by the burn in her eyes and next, the hot sting of her hand against his face. The smile faded and he locked eyes with her, not even moving to massage the place on his mug she struck. Luckily, that intense moment passed quickly as Nyx pulled him away from where he stood and towards running water which he could hear in the distance. He didn't resist her. Although she was his superior, she was also his sister, one of the the very people he was trying to protect. Where are we going? I hardly think it's the time for a bath. I'm kind of in the middle of something, I'll just meet you at home. He said quietly. His captors were far off, but he wasn't going to risk them hearing him.

The Malphas was incredulous at her brothers statement that it wasn't the best time for a bath. For a few moments the girl didn't even know what to say, but she tightened her grip upon him, an impossibly firm grip it seemed for a hand that was so small. "G-Greed..." The minuscule warrior began, but she faltered. Instead of getting into it right away, the snow colored vixen stated in a more demanding tone, "This is the p-perfect time for a bath." Though she kept her voice down, implying that she knew that there was a reason to speak quietly.

"Greed, y-you reek! Y-your scent trail a-a-and blood go back for m-miles! Why a-are you being followed?" The Malphas demanded to know, her ears pinned back and her tail raised in a mixture of fear and anger. She could not express how relieved she was that she'd been the one to find her brother, that he had not continued on and gotten himself found, gotten his wounds infected, or any number of other lethal fates he could have met.

They were at the stream now and Nyx stepped into its center, dragging her brother in behind her and meeting any resistance from him with a pleading look. "The r-river will help wash a-a-away your scent. W-we're f-following it." It truly was rare for the Malphas to take on such a demanding persona, yet when she wanted something badly enough, she usually managed to get her way, and there was usually a good reason for it as well. "Wrath i-i-is going to be s-so happy when you're b..back." The girl stammered, though in her mind she saw the silver Lykoi striking the male for his stupidity just as she had previously.

She clearly saw right through him because she insisted that right now was a perfect time for a bath. He was still in flight mode and felt if they stopped they would surely be found. Nyx had a different plan. She pointed out that he still smelled despite his efforts to cover up the blood that coated his normally shiny umber coat. She also questioned why he was being followed which caused him to tug back at her for a second with resistance before he continued. He was ashamed. He didn't want her to find him like this and to know the mistake he made, but, better her than Wrath.

Seeing as the question was more of a demand and the fact that she Wrath would find out eventually, Greed spilled the details in short. Nyx was obviously disgruntled at her finding him like this. The least he could do was be honest. I messed up big time Nyx. I lost everything trying to gain something. Stupid. He spat, his lip lifting in a momentary snarl. Enenera was gone, Onryo was gone, his prized armor and weapons were gone. He had gained many an item from his ventures, but never, never, had he lost one. It hit him hard. What hit him harder, was that he couldn't even escape. He almost died. There's mercenaries after me. I guess everything they ripped away from me wasn't enough. His ears flattened in a rare display of shame and submissiveness, one that Nyx would hopefully never see again.

Greed didn't hesitate any longer as his sister pulled him into the river. Her mind was clearer than his and she'd come up with a better solution to his problem than he could. She was right. So, Greed dunked himself and let the soil and blood wash downstream along with the stank from days spent running. It felt nice to get the gunk out of her fur and feel the chill against his wounds. The sin's head lowered as Nyx mentioned Wrath would be happy. He highly doubted that considering they weren't on the best of terms when he left. He will be ashamed to call me his brother. I've already betrayed his trust. Maybe I just won't go back. Greed said with a forced smile, half joking and half not.

As the gossamer warrior walked now hand in hand with her brother rather than pulling him along in an undignified manner, the female said nothing as they waded through the water, though she kept her ears perked towards the male as an indication that she was listening. She kept her head down, the Malphas didn't think her brother wanted a show of pity from her, but at the next words to leave the mouth of the umber Lykoi, it became clear that she had to say something to him. Pausing in her tracks, the amethyst eyed girl looked back at her brother with a pained expression, her eyes holding all the depth of her emotion in their deep amethyst pools as she squeezed the hand that she still held, regardless of how necessary it was to continue doing to.

"G-Greed... You... y-you mean much m-more to him th-than that... You m-mean more t-to me than th-that too." The girl said, her ears flicking back and her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked down and away from his face. "P-please don't s-say you sh-shouldn't come back..." She murmured more quietly, and with that the tiny warrior stepped towards him to give her brother the hug which he had expected at their initial greeting, wrapping slender snow furred arms around his waist and nuzzling her brothers chest lightly. "Y-you h-have to come back. Th-th-that's an order." The downy coated sister mumbled softly into her brother's fur, her tone holding little conviction, but a deep sadness coming across instead at the thought of not seeing her adoptive sibling anymore.

He was allowed to sulk only for a moment before Nyx's soft voice overlapped his negative thoughts and blocked out the chance of deception from the truth. Greed tossed her an inadequate smile, followed by a wider forced one as her amethyst orbs narrowed and shot daggers in his direction. He relieved himself of the fake smile as soon as her eyes were off of him but couldn't help but replace it with a soft genuine one. The umber king couldn't help but feel some shred of redemption when Nyx was around. She was there to help him through some of his worst times, including right now when he was at his lowest point. She had away about easing one's soul in a way he found nobody else could.

Greed nodded as she pleaded him not to say he shouldn't come back. He couldn't help but feel like that could be a good option at this point. He was just dragging everyone around him down from the place he helped build them up to. His positive outlook on life was diminished, his confidence was diminished, all the hard work he did was diminished. What was left except his exposed injured flesh and shame? His smile faded as he sunk back into the all consuming negativity he was left with. Greed heaved loudly with emotional torment and a moment later, some of that agony seemed to fade as his pallid sibling turned to throw her arms around him.

His arms were frozen at his side for a moment as he felt the build up of tears behind his eyes and a tension in his throat. His breath came out in a short huff as his head lowered onto hers and his muzzle pressed against her soft locks. His arms wrapped tightly around her and pulled her close into his tattered form. He couldn't speak for a moment, completely take aback at her complete acceptance of him and his mistakes. It was almost too pure, although she had given him a swift slap on the face to help counteract it earlier. Greed squeezed her tighter before releasing her from his grasp. He raised a hand to place on her shoulder and cast his amber gaze to meet her lilac hues. Guess I have no choice. He smiled down at her for a moment before reality hit him once again as he heard voices in the distance. His eyes narrowed and he lowered more into the water. We have to keep moving.

With that, he grabbed her hand and began to tread along the riverbed as they were doing before. For the record. You both mean the world to me too. I don't think I could leave even if I tried. No, he could never leave the safety of Anathema however ironic that was. The chaotic pack he grew up in and those who resided there meant more to him than he could express. After opening his eyes with Nyx's help, he realized that he just wanted to get back home.

The embrace was a tender one, marked by raw emotion and the affection held by one sibling for another. They were wet, dirty, the both of them scarred. The pair of siblings had both seen too much of the world and the pain that one felt now and the empathy and acceptance that the other showed him were all too real as they embraced there in the running water. Amethyst eyes closed and she held Greed tightly, until he agreed that he would not leave, that he could not leave, and Nyx knew just how that was.

Anathema was more than their home or their responsibility. Anathema was family, it was where they belonged, the both of them. Either of the siblings could try to make a home for themselves anywhere else, but they would always be Anathemans at heart, and in mind and spirit. That bittersweet moment was cut off all too soon, Nyx looked up into his amber gaze and gave a warm smile, right up until her tan tipped ears snapped to the source of the sound of voices in the distance.

This time it would be Greed grabbing the hand of the Malphas and pulling her along in the water. The situation was dire, yet the female couldn't help but be warmed by the fact that he would not leave her behind to save his own hide. They traveled along the river for a good while, the current eventually getting stronger as it threatened to sweep the smaller female off her feet in a literal sense. "W-w-we have to f-follow it t-to the o-ocean..." The female stammered, her chin barely breaching the surface of the water.

The Malphas had a plan, to ride the current until they came to the ocean, and then walk along the beach until they reached the familiar shores of Anathema, this way, anyone attempting ti track them would not be able to pick up a trail without crossing deep into Anatheman territory, and without a trail to follow in the first place, they had no reason to do so. Amethyst eyes trained carefully on her brother. He was hurt, and she knew that this was putting undue stress upon his injured body.

"W-We'll make it, j-just h-hold on."

They were in survival mode. There were too many of the mercenaries to fight off and escape from. If they were to be caught, the pair would not be returning home to the safety of their pack. That fate, was much too cruel to contemplate and so, Greed pushed it to the back of his mind and pulled his sister along. It felt like hours, though it surely couldn't have been. His body ached, wounds open and stinging from the cold rush of water. His muscles ached from his relentless running from his attackers. He couldn't help but think, that he was the bad guy in all of this. He, might no longer be the hero.

Greed's breath grew strained as they walked, pushing through the rivers current with his body littered in wounds. Nyx spoke quietly back to him, saying they needed to reach the ocean first. It was a good plan, they would be able to reach home fairly easily once they reached the beach. Alright Boss. Greed answered. His own mind was cloudy, distracted, and tired. Without his sister, there was a great chance he would have never returned home. He would have kept running until exhaustion defeated him and the mercenaries did what they pleased.

The twilight sin had gone into a trance of effort and focus on the path ahead. He'd slowed a considerable amount but still he lead Nyx down the river. Each step was a victory at this point, but they could not stop. He wouldn't stop. He wouldn't be defeated now. His family was counting on him to get home, including the small woman that trailed behind him so determined to get him there. Her words rang in his ears and he took a breath to calm himself as a necessary wave of panic set in. Panic meant he had something to live for. Not all was lost. Greed turned back towards Nyx and grinned, although it was apparent he was in pain. No doubt in my mind. He lied, for her and for himself.

An unobtainable amount of time passed before Greed could smell salt in the air. It was a beacon of hope. They were almost to the ocean and to the beach. Greed couldn't hear anything in the distance, although the rushing of water past himself and Nyx may be drowning it out. The current seemed to strengthen the farther they traveled. That was a good thing though, that meant that along with it their scent washed away.
