A silver wolf could be seen walking around what used to be known as Anathema, the land of the misfits. The wolf was no stranger to these lands, for they used to be his home. His tired, light-blue eyes scanned the familiar territories, he was pacing by the Halcyon Mountains, carefully looking for the Howling Caverns. The wolf looked worn down by the moons he had spent as a loner, his body was lightly scarred, and his fur was covered and tangled in a mixture of mud, dirt, and dried blood, which made his eyes stand out. He was as skinny as usual, his skin marking where his bones were. He kept walking, knowing the caverns were very close.

He soon found one of the Howling Cavern's entrances, just as the moon was about to start its chase after the sun.

When Kentaro and his band of loners waged a war against Anathema, within Anathema, Auspicium had attempted to protect his beloved territory and family. And he failed. He had been forced to leave the territory not too long before the war finally ended, taking a few of the things he had left in his cavern room with him. Soon after leaving he traded in the things he had taken with him for food, and in his mind always lingered the reminder that he had left some of his few remaining items on his small cave.

As he entered the place his nostrils were filled with melancholy. The familiar scents of the knotted tunnels were all around him, and as he walked in deeper, lighted slowly ceased to exist inside the place. He looked around the few places the light was able to touch. The wolf became confused, after all these moons the memories of the caverns were beginning to fade. The tunnels he had to take in order to arrive at his room were blurry in his minds, and after a while of wandering around, he realized he had made a terrible mistake. Instead of panicking (too much), he decided to keep walking around until he either found his room or an exit.

He started overthinking. Why did he even returned to the old lands of Anathema? They only brought him bittersweet memories, and it wasn't like he had many things left, assuming they had been stolen soon after the pack disbanded. What he should've been doing instead of getting himself lost in the caverns was looking for food, or looking for the next victim to steal from. Who knew when he would be able to find an exit.

Luckily, he noticed a spot which the weakened sunrays were able to reach, signaling Auspicium his way out of the cave. He made his way out eagerly, and as soon as he was outside he noticed a familiar scent...

Once again, the neat little life she was creating was unraveling and falling apart like a once cozy sweater. The young witch had not even realized that she only advanced this happening by picking and pulling at the loose strings. She was an irrational girl, a confused girl. She was lost. The only thing that brought her comfort were her demons, for they allowed her to fall into the darkness and forget the struggle of the light. In the dark, one could not see the path they were meant to follow and so she was free to do as she pleased.

Maelyx was gone, saying that she could no longer be with her coven because of a call from the gods. It boiled River's blood every time she thought about it. The fire witch was one of the few people River looked up to and listened to. Without that structure, there was no telling what came next. Now, she found comfort in the marred midnight demon, Lux. She found similar interests in him and when they were together she could be truly happy. It was a selfish relationship, but neither one of them seemed to care what would come of it. It was but a comfort in hard times. When Lux was away, River disappeared as well as to be unseen by Greed or her mother. Neither of them would approve of her dark ways and would try to stop her. She wouldn't allow it.

So, when she was left to her own devices, she found her way back to Anathema. The negativity still laced the lands like freshly fallen snow. The spirits doomed to wander these decrepit remains remained strong, feasting on each other's malice. When she stepped foot in these old pack lands, it was like the spirit world welcomed her to their humble abode. She loved it. Kalfou did too. Her skin tingled with delight, power, as they walked over once bloodied soil to the caverns. She meant to seek out one of the caves to practice her craft. When she reached the entrance, she realized she was not alone. The scent was familiar, but she couldn't place a name to it. Either way, the prospect of fun drew her in that direction and down the dark hallways she went with a freshly lit torch in hand.

She would keep walking, keep fallowing the scent until she found its owner. Suddenly, she remembered that day, when Thackary village was consumed in flames and the Anathemans were forced to flee to the caverns. She remembered feeling so confused, so angry. That's when she first began to lose her light.

In his eyes, the light of the sun slowly turned into that one of a torch. The scent got stronger with each pace he took, he immediately knew someone was about to enter the Howling Caverns just as he was about to exit them. During the brief seconds before his eyes met who the source of the scent was his mind wondered about who could it be. The calmer fragment of his mind told him it was one of his old packmates, while a sense of anxiety hissed at him warnings of reckless thieves and terrible beasts awaiting to hurt him and steal what the cave system had left.

Light-blue eyes finally meet the owner of the scent. He recognized her, he recognized her very well, she wasn't a stranger to his senses but didn't remember the name that belonged to that face. The young lady with a dark pelt and mismatched eyes, daughter of a Lykoi. He remembered meeting paths with the young lady when the war in Anathema started brewing, not long after the village was set ablaze. His senses made him revive the moments of fear for a brief time when fire swallowed the entirety of Anathema's village, then his mind brought him the image of the very same girl when his packmates were forced to move into the cavern system.

The silver secui felt slightly uncomfortable when he recognized the female, but he didn't know why. The young lady looked changed, not only she had grown up a few moons, there was something different in her expression. When he had seen her in the very same caves she was reasonably troubled and with a sharp tongue, she carried an air of agitation with her, but that was something to expect in the middle of a war. Something about her wasn't the same this time, it seemed like she had gone through a change different from physical, something from the inside. Auspicium, being inexperienced in the matters of spirituality couldn't point to what was wrong.

He stared at the hybrid lady for a couple of seconds, with a bittersweet taste in his tongue when he remembered the old days of Anathema. He assumed the young one was returning to her old home with the same purpose as Auspicium, which was to salvage the few things he had left in the place, momentarily ignorant about what had been lost during the fire.

"I..." His tongue ran before he could think about what to say, he didn't wish to be near the hybrid for too long, knowing her temper, he didn't even wish to speak. "Why... why are you here?" His tongue betrayed him once again, the blamestorming on his mind resumed once again, telling him the girl's matters were none of his business.

Dark lips rolled back at the sight of the secui male. He looked like a deer caught in the bright light of the moon, just as he realized he was not alone. She remained quiet, as did he as he gazed over at her. River's arms raised as she pulled her mess of wavy locks into a ponytail and tied her hair up behind her. She wasn't sure why she did as such, but it revealed the length of her feminine neck and collar bone. One syllable slipped from the canine's mouth before he paused. Kalfou's malicious laughter filled the air, he also remembered this male from when the war was just beginning. He was just as frail back then.

The bold question of why she was here came next from the four legged male. A soft huff whispered through her nostrils as she shrugged, tilting her head to one side playfully. Once she knew he was afraid, the floodgates opened up to allow those dark intentions to seep in. Once they did, she felt Kalfou's grasp on her shoulders and his dark aura wash over her like a black veil. The Grim girl's tail rose behind her in a confident and dominant display. River turned, and mounted the torch on one of the many holders on the wall before turning back to the male with a glimmer of mischief in her gaze.

This was once my home. I still find comfort in coming here. Why are you here? Coward. The insult echoed in her head, whether it was Kalfou's voice or her own she could not distinguish. She didn't remember seeing him around after that day in the caverns. He most likely fled, like all the other cowards of the pack did when they knew things were going to shit. Weak. Again, the voice resounded, causing her tongue to slip out from between grinning jaws to lap at her nose. Prey. He was nothing more than the rabbits she trapped for sacrifices to her allies.

She could hear the demon's growl, feel it bubbling in her own chest, yet no sound came from her lips. A step was taken towards the other. I don't remember your name. Must not have been a memorable encounter.

Each little move the dark girl made stirred the sense that something was wrong inside of him, as if with every second that passed the female's aura became even more disturbing to his senses. The female's subtle displays of dominance and hawkishly playful confidence made him want to find the nearest exit and run for his life, all calmness slowly started to abandon his body, but the reminder that they were technically family still lingered on his mind.

"This once was my home" Auspicium became overwhelmed with the memories of living in Anathema. The cold, dark caverns were once his most trusty refuge. Even if the air was filled with a smell of humidity and the ground felt terribly cold under his feet at night, they once were like a warm home to him.

"Why are you here" The wolf's body tensed, each one of his muscles begged him to run away as they echoed the girl's words. The last straw was when the girl placed the torch on a holder, Auspicium immediately understood he would have to be there for even more than he expected. It was the damned grin on the girl's that made his skin want to jump out of his body, far away from the hybrid, and that made his heart want to escape with it, he could feel it wanting to burst out of his chest fiercely.

He analyzed the female's terrorizing features. He still didn't know what made the female grow the worst fear in his chest, it was something beyond her outer expressions, something he couldn't point to which scared him even more. It felt more complicated to breathe, and he could almost see her dark intentions in her benighted, mismatched eyes. He wished he would've just walked away from the female instead of letting his tongue betray him.

When she mentioned not remembering his name he once again remembered the times of war in which they crossed paths. He remembered doing everything in his inexperienced power to help the warriors of his pack, he wanted to protect all those who made the Howling Caverns their refuge. He even remembered fighting a loner by the side of the burning village, but part of him felt like it had never been enough. He felt- no, he knew he should've tried harder, that he should've fought hundreds of battles instead of just one and calling it a day to hide with the others in the cavern. He started to feel overwhelmingly guilty, that very same guilt made him momentarily forget about the trouble he had just gotten himself into. But then he landed back.

The female took a step closer to him, which made him fear more. What was she going to do? He tried to calm himself down by remembering they were both from the family of Anathema, which would stop her from doing any evil unto him, yet the villainous tone the female had made him fear for his safety. What happened to her? What happened to the others?

"T-This" The male stuttered as he took a step back, "This once was my home too, I-I am looking for what I left here." He focused on controlling each of his muscles, not wanting to start trembling. "Y-You do not need to know my name, I was just about to leave." He said, his words weren't as bold as he wished they had been.

Yeeeeess The slow build of anticipation sparked inside her dark heart. She could feel her light disappear in the grasp of abysmal, otherworldly, clutches. From there, he outstretched his routes throughout her feminine form, slinking down her arms and legs. She could feel the stretch of power until it reached her claws which twitched with elation. The wolf's whimper of a voice followed her question. He was the reason why Anathema fell, the weakness in the pack, the disease. River had her youth to blame, but what did this coward have as an excuse when the tides of war hit? Nothing. The rumble of a voice sounded in her head, her though process slowly melding with the demon who rested inside her.

There's nothing left here. She stated simply, knowing well her answer may come off as more than just that. She huffed in laughter as he stuttered, fumbling over his own tongue in response to her. The power she held felt immeasurable. He is your prey. He is but a feeble being, struggling to survive in this world. He won't be missed. Kalfou spoke, his voice echoed loud in her ears as he spoke from inside. The other took a step back, obviously afraid of her, of what she'd become. If only Lux was here to witness her triumph.

The cloudy male refused to offer her his name. You'd think those as weak as he would be eager to offer to those stronger than them. Foolish. We used to be pack mates. I think you owe me a name. No need to hurry. We have all the time in the world. Another step was taken towards him. She waited for that reaction, that snap, like a broken branch overpowered by a strike of lightning. She waited to see the fear, clear in his eyes. She waited for the helplessness that would follow once he knew he was in trouble. She took another step. Her other hand twitched with the brilliant sting of power Kalfou offered her and all the wisdom that came with it. I'm River. Don't you remember? Another step.
