But I'm not like them

For Sebastien and Lucia

To rise and shine is so hard to do
When all the light has been taken from you

OOC: Backdated to when Sebastien was still a servant. Permission from leadership to have Silas outside SL. Let me know if there is anything I need to change. +300 words.

Silas was cautious when making his way towards the borders. Helena had summoned him along with one of the other servants, a white and orange male who could speak. Well at least when it came to dealing with someone, there would be at least one servant that could do the talking for the both of them. No doubt that as many of the ranked members were learning about his existence, they were getting a little annoyed that they would have to wait on him to write down what he was saying and then read it instead of just getting a straight answer from his lips.

Probably harder to tell this way if the slave was being truthful or not. Then again, what would a mute, scar covered servant have to lie about? He knew his place and was at peace with it.

The dog woman had sent the pair of them not too far outside of the kingdom's borders, searching for berries to bring back to her. With two servants instead of one working on the job, not only would the task be done quicker, but they could return to Helena with more stock.

There hadn't been much time when he was traveling with Kruger to stop and look at the area around them. They had places to be, and wherever the cloaked male went, his slave followed behind. It shouldn't take long for the two of them to do some scouting and find what the woman was looking for. The optime male moved on all fours, his nose carefully meeting with the wind and ground as he gave a sniff. So many unfamiliar scents to go off of. Maybe so long as he was scenting and the other was looking, they could come together at the middle ground on where these items were.

Flower gleam and glow,
let your power shine
See the Light, it's blinding

Lucia had a secret. A secret that her former pack-mates might have frowned upon to see her engaging in. She liked to paint, usually with whatever she had available. Lucia had not a brush to use though, it never did occur to her. she painted with her fingers, mostly with crushed berries or similar paints. It was an idle pursuit but it filled some of her lonely hours.

With a small basket the gentle femme set off towards where she knew the thickest berry bushes grew. The pretty but simple braid kept back her long hair from her face, she wished Isis would come by sometime soon and her artistic daughter could weave Lucia's long locks into a new and fabulous arrangement.

Soon the gentle femme was deep within the bushes, happily picking away at the ripe to bursting berries. The wood thrush were out in full force today. Their 'ee-oh-lay' call was the most beautiful sound and as she picked Lucia would trill their song back to them, with a flourishing embellishment.

It was not long before the lady was surrounded by them, in the trees above and the branches of nearby brushes. THe forest was alive with their serenading sounds.

The thought of leaving Salsola filled Sebastien with dread. Its thistles and thorns provided the safety he needed from the evils that lurked beyond its reaches. Yet when Helena asked this of him, the hound knew he could not disobey. By a stroke or luck or pity, she arranged another to accompany him. His mistress had caught another servant in the time Bastien had been hers; a heavily scarred, silent man.

There was something about the way he moved that intrigued the boy, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. It was less to do with the strangeness of seeing a canine crawl upon all fours in its Optime form, it reminded him of someone. Sabre, his adopted brother, who had been born to live as their ancestors did. Bastien recalled the times Sabre would stand on his hind legs to imitate him, just as Silas did the opposite.

As the servants headed out, his companion’s lack of speech didn’t phase him. Bastien found it refreshing to be able to speak openly, without fear of saying the wrong thing. He kept his chatter to simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers, in an effort to distract himself from the chill that clung to his body. It was the first time since becoming a serf he had stepped beyond the Kingdom’s reaches. Adrenaline surged in the boy’s bloodstream, all senses trained on his surroundings.

Bastien abandoned their conversation as they drew deeper into the woods, with Silas indicating that they should split up. Focus. He was fortunate to have his skills for creating dyes at hand, and there was plentiful undergrowth to begin checking. The hound approached a copse, heavy with birdsong in its upper branches. It was a lovely day, there really shouldn’t be anything to be afraid of.

Yet he froze at an unfamiliar sound that seemed to answer the singers. It was distinctly canine, and yet convincing enough that the birds replied. As Bastien came closer, slowly, the scent of woman tickled his nose. He couldn’t spy the female in question through the thick growth, so instead stepped back and whispered to the collared servant, “Silas? C-can you come over here?”

To rise and shine is so hard to do
When all the light has been taken from you

OOC: +400 words.

Silas had always been a dutiful slave when it came to his tasks. All of them were to be done, no matter how long it took him to complete them. He knew from experience what it was like to come back to his master empty handed. There was no sense in dragging this other slave down as well. So long as they had one another's back, it would be done. The mute man was a capable fighter, a capable killer. One command needed to be given and the one standing in the way would not be breathing anymore.

He had motioned for the two of them to split up, though his golden eyes made sure to keep the other servant within his sights. It would fall upon him if something were to happen to Sebastien. Punishment would be dished out for any small detail. He could handle the pain, the torture... but from what the male had seen of the other servants in the kingdom, they were not as broken as he was.

Ears had turned up slightly to the sound of the voice coming in the distance, but it didn't seem like it would cross their path. Taking care of this task was far more important. The sooner they were able to get it done, the sooner they could return to the kingdom with the berries Helena was looking for.

But then again that rested on his partner thinking the same way.

Silas turned his head over his shoulder, hearing Sebastien ask if he could come over to him. There seemed to be some worry in his voice. Was it over the same thing he had heard before? Stalking over to the other servant's position, he caught a wif of the female's scent enter his nose. There was someone else nearby, and likely the source of the sound from before. His head turned over to the other servant. One hand reached into his pocket to take out his writing items, writing for the other male. It was better to assume no one in Salsola knew sign language, so better just to write.

He soon offered the book out to him, "We should be fine as long as we don't draw attention towards us. The female will go on her way. If she spots us, we must lie." The wolf held no problems with the art, having his master teach him to do so when dealing with loners. The same would be true of his new kingdom. It could not be known who they really were.
