You were always gold to me

For Boone

Innocence, once lost, can never be regained
Darkness, once gazed upon, can never be lost

OOC: Left it a bit vague. Feel free to have Boone meet up with her like last time or skip the travel time to when she arrives at the cartel. +300 words.

Dahlia really couldn't help herself. As much as she wanted to try and get into Salsolan society, something kept pulling her back to the Cartel. It was a place where she felt that she could be free, to be among those that she knew, a place where all of her worries could melt away for a short time that she could be her own person again. The only thing that didn't help was the group slowly being on the move to get themselves to a new location. It was fine. It's not like the kingdom was probably going to care if she was gone for too long or so long as she didn't draw attention to herself.

The pups were getting older, and getting to the point where they could be weened onto more solid food. A fair amount of her time was spent hunting, bringing food home not only for them to eat, but also for the other members of the household. She may not stay there or have been a wanted member of their family, but she still sought to provide for them. It was her obligation to help them in any way that she could.

The pups had even begun to not only play with one another, and even explore their dwellings more. Of course, all three watching over them made sure that they weren't getting into places they either couldn't get out of or was of some danger to them. On this day, they seemed to have followed a bit behind her as she left the church. Head turned back over her shoulder as she gave them a smile. Padding back over to them, she touched each of them with her nose, "Don't worry you two, I won't be gone too long. You have your father and Sebastian to watch over you." The gray coyote took the time to escort them back inside before she left again, making sure they stayed put this time.

Following along the northern path towards Salsola's borders, she began to make her travel. It was going to take time for her to reach the Cartel on foot, but it was a walk she was willing to make.

Keep that gun locked away, locked away boy
Well you know you're an angry young man

Evening came and Boone returned to camp with a fox slung over his shoulder. A well placed arrow pierced its flank, and Boone brought its lifeless corpse back to the camp's fire to skin and eat. Gutting the creature was easy enough, for Boone had grown accustomed to these wild barbarisms. Driving his father's knife into the creature's gut, he peeled the skin away. He set the pelt aside to be later treated and used. The meat was then placed on a split above the fire to slowly roast.

The scent of searing fox wafted through the camp. Boone's mouth watered at the thought of how good it would taste. He was no stranger to hunger, after all. For most of his life, hunger had been a perpetual state. They were all hungry, but this fox was his.

As his meal cooked, Boone spied a familiar face moving toward camp through the tree line. The Cartel didn't take too kindly to visitors, yet this one was a special case. "Dahlia!" he called, smiling. "You're a ways from home."

Boone patted the ground next to where he knelt once. "'Mere," he implored, gesturing her to join him by the fire.

OOC: +300 words.

It was a long walk, and with the Cartel moving further and further away, it was going to be harder to meet up with them as she had been doing. Not only did Salsola demand her attention now that she was promoted to a rue member of their collective family, but the pups needed her as well. Sure, they had Coaxoch and Sebastian to take care of them, and she could see in how both pups acted that they loved both of them... but they were familiar with her. The first scent they ever knew when their mother passed away before them... Guess that made her the closest thing to their mother...

And that could not be robbed from them twice.

The gray coyote made herself known to the other members, making sure they knew it was her stepping into camp rather than some stranger. The Cartel had been kind enough to grant her passage whenever she came around, even though she was not formally a member of their group.

Green gaze locked on a familiar man as he called out to her. Boone. She recalled their last meeting, where she had pushed him into freezing cold water, but he seemed to have forgiven her for doing so. A smile moved onto her face as she padded over to him, taking the spot he had offered to her, "You know me, I can't stay away for too long, though my trip won't be too long either. I have children to get back to." It was so hard.. having ones heart torn in two directions.

Not wanting to dwell on it though, her attention turned towards his meal, "What are you cooking?" Whatever it was, it had a nice smell to it, not that she was going to impose or ask for any of it. It was his food and she could always catch her own.
