Twitching fingers locked together, trembling as golden eyes stared them down and demanded them to stop. Still they shook, wavering like the voices in the mind they belonged to. Grasping a hand by the wrist, grey digits squeezed obedience into the limb, slowing down from a violent shiver to a stand still. Flexing each claw and paw, an old friend began to speak. You need to calm down. "I know that." a hushed tone quickly said to no one in particular. Shallow breaths began to reside into a normal rhythm, being lost into the murmur of the plethora of voices and personalities that came to attendance. Another, small voice began to grow louder and louder, a lump catching in her throat until- "Momma?"

"What?" The Alloces gave a start, being pulled away from deep thoughts back into the present. It was Mabon, the Mabon the grey wolf had personally helped set up. Originally the plan was for the old soul to put everything together, but the other's, including Katrina, pitched in a helping hand. Being so busy with setting up the festivities, the mother had to leave earlier than her children to make sure everything was ready and in place. In fact, her closest friend's adopted fox child, Nina, was supposed to bring the pups by sometime about now, but then that episode just now must've occurred.

A scarred hand pressed to the side of her temple, fingers running through the scar from her early childhood. Taking a moment to collect herself, the femme fox that was acting as her pups guardian stepped up with a worried look."Luna,
are you okay?"
Yes. Yes, that was her name. Luna. "Yes, I'm... fine. Dizzy from all of the prep work." she lied through a smile, knowing that it'll fade soon enough. With a sideways glance, Nina scanned the crowd for Inuit, March's sister while the boy looked up in confusion at his mother. "You wanna play with us?" Heart melting, the inventor wanted to say yes, but wasn't willing to risk having a relapse so soon after this latest incident. "Maybe in a little bit dear. In the mean time, why not go find your sister and wish our Angelo a blessed Mabon? she told him with an uneasy smile. The hesitation in him was clear, but thankfully Nina understood and helped March along, as the two of them disappeared into the crowd looking for the other coywolf pup.

Sinking back onto her haunches, silvered hands rose to her face, cradling her head as she doubled over, quickly composing herself and rising back onto her feet. That was close. Can it Petila. With curled fists, Luna stormed off, slinking through the crowd to find somewhere quiet. As she drifted near one of the tables, a hand shot out with a mind of its own, swiping a bottle of ale as she moved by. Looking down a frown of distaste threatened to wrap around her face. Are you really starting this? Look, if anyone deserves a break and wind down, its you. You've been burying yourself alive in work, but you can't just keep going and going. It's not going to help it go away.

Brushing away tangled strands of hair, a padded thumb played against the cork in the bottle, the sure-footed pace turning into a crawl. Slumping against a wall, Luna slid down its length, drawing her knees into herself as she thunked the bottle against long shins. He looks more and more like him every day. He is and will not be HIM. she snarled, cursing the very thought of that vile creature. A sudden chill pierced her skin, a tremor starting at the base of her spine and causing her to uncontrollably shudder as it ran up her back. See, you can't even think about that thing without spazzing out. the alter said, not daring to even associate a sex to the monster. Despite the passage of time, memories burned into her subconscious would periodically rise to the surface, more so since it was cracked open like a walnut.

Tangling her fingers in her mane, hair that silked down only to slope out and away fringed the edge of her vision, like an oppressing shadow bearing down on her. Such lovely locks... Reacting like she was just stabbed, Luna's head snapped up to attention, wildly looking around and even to the barren wall behind her, feeling a heart racing as no one stood by her. Gnashing her teeth, looking back down to the alcohol trapped cruelly behind a glass container, she muttered "Ah, hells." before prying the cork free with her fangs, hesitating for a moment before spitting it away in spite and taking a generous swig. Bringing the bottle back down, she felt a bit warmer at the same time as a bit smaller. With a groan, she dropped her head into her forearms, now resting on propped up knees. I'm weak, I'm weak, I'm weak. she moaned, belating her lack of self-control.

Nox had spent a lot of time thinking to himself of the recent past few weeks. Life had been so simple before, Anathema was his home, and nothing before had ever made him doubt his ability to protect that home and the people that resided within, yet somehow, some way the petite male had allowed tragedy to befall his dearest friend within the pack. Luna was not someone who had come across to Nox as defenseless. He was merely a child when he'd first met her on that fateful day, and he looked up to the woman, tall and elegant, with silver fur that shone in the sun. Nox loved to be around her, fighting to be able to protect her, but what was all that fighting for?

When Nox wasn't present, someone, some coyote had taken her from the border and put the silver woman through unspeakable torments before Luna had managed to return to them. There were pups in her belly when she came home, and she was a different wolf, not really showing Nox any of the same light and gentle guidance that he had been used to up until that point. It was then that the small white furred male had had a realization. Luna was not the idol that he had built her up to be in his mind, she was not as strong as she had always seemed to be, that was to say, she was not invincible, and so the lean warrior decided to take it upon himself to protect her now.

The night was young and the festivities had only just begun, Nox himself had worked along side a few generous individuals and leadership to help set up the event, but the air remained heavy with the weight of the events that had transpired, all without the lithe warrior's knowledge, and there was nothing that he could have done to prevent it other than being there for her in that moment. The fact that Luna had returned bearing pups was not something that had bothered Nox in the slightest however, the male adored pups, and he had a strong paternal instinct about him despite being quite childish himself at times.

The male had even gone so far as to raise a female fox cub that he had found orphaned on the mountain, and that very fox was playing a large role in caring for the hybrid pups that Luna had brought into the world through no desire of her own.

Nox had been outside, he'd helped set things up within the main chamber of the howling caverns, but all the hustle and bustle had been a bit too much for the jaded youth at that point, he'd been taking a breath of fresh air, but when the call for the start of the party rang out, Nox began his return journey, padding through frost and leaves as he made his way up the base of the mountain to the mouth of the caverns. Tan claws clicked against frosted stone as he made the ascent, climbing into the cavern and spotting Nina in all her fiery red beauty first and foremost. "N-Nina, how are the pups? Are you all e-enjoying the pa-party?" Nox asked with a small but charming smile, stooping to run a snow white and scarred hand down the back and tail of the fox in passing. The fox glanced up at the white Optime, but otherwise made no attempt to answer his questions, instead padding off to find her young wards and corral them in from harassing the public with puppy antics.

It wasn't until the frost coated male was well within the throng of party goers that he noticed someone sitting on the outskirts, against the wall, bottle in hand. Glancing towards Luna, Nox made a silent decision to go and attempt to comfort the female. He wasn't sure if someone as childish looking as himself could truly comfort the beautiful and mature female, but he had to try something. Sidling up beside her, Nox glanced down at the troubled wolfess, brows furrowed in his concern. "H-Hey Lu, do you m-mind if I join you?"

Without truly waiting for a response, the sprite-like male slid himself down the wall into a seated position and found himself looking up at the taller creature, reaching out a hand to reassuringly squeeze her shoulder. "D-Drinking for the o-occasion, huh? W-well two's better than one, l-let me join you?"

A voice, separate from her own thoughts, had called out to Luna, causing her to start for a moment before realizing who was addressing her. "Nox." she said, almost with a sigh of relief. While she was at it, the Alloces returned to her original grip on the bottle, having had reversed it in preparation for smashing it against someone, as much of a waste as that would be, according to a small part of her brain. Eying him from the side, the wound up female gave a curt nod. "If you don't find the company too stressing, sure." she said, trying to be funny but ending up depressing.

She was fine with him sitting beside her, but the physical contact cause Luna to flinch briefly, yet she didn't pull away. Forcing a deep breath, the wolf sat upright, next to Nox and kept her eyes on him. She trusted Nox, not just with her life but her pups. If she knew it was him that was touching her, she'd be fine. She was fine. It was fine. Another deep breath went in, then out. No one here was going to hurt her, her friend least of all. They were here for her, she knew that. This was her family, as it had been for many years. And Nox himself, she knew from when he could still be called a pup, practically. Resting her head on the wall behind her, Luna suddenly perked up when the warrior mentioned booze. Nox even got her to laugh a little when he mentioned joining her again. "Ya already are, ya nut!" she smiled briefly, before returning to staring somberly at her feet.

"I assume you meant this, though." she said, handing over the bottle of ale to let him take a swig. Once he had a drink, Luna was sure to get the alcohol back, partaking in a healthy gulp herself. Clearing her throat, it felt good to focus on something simple as the burning sensation in her throat for once. With a spare hand, Luna twirled a strand of her hair with a finger, trying to avoid eye contact. "So, uh... how are you enjoying the party?" she asked, unsure of what to say. Very smooth. Well you got any better suggestions? Well, I can think of a couple things.

Luna thought for a second, then shook her head out of embarrassment. Where were you heading, I was being clean for once. "Ugh." This was hardly like the female. Before, she used to be confident and sociable, and would even tease Nox from time to time. But now she was unsure, and thought it might be unfair to him to continue teasing the poor boy. Since, that's all it was, right? So much in her life right now just, felt uncertain.

Nox gladly took the bottle from his much larger female companion, ears swiveling back momentarily as he held the smooth glass container between scarred paws, gingerly eyeing it's clear green surface and letting a claw trace down it's imperfections. It was easy to let his mind wander like that when he was with Luna, the presence of the female was comforting on most days, it left him feeling at ease. "Being i-in your company is n-never stressing." The boy spoke softly, turning his head up and to the side slightly to look at the downcast face of his friend, tipping the bottle back as cold glass met his pinkish lips, the boy took a swig, doing his best to largely ignore the burning in his throat, as he was unaccustomed to drinking the fire water. He was mostly successful, managing to suppress his coughing and look of discomfort until after he handed the bottle back to it's original owner.

The walls of the room they were using as a party hall were cool and sturdy behind Nox's scarred back. As the boy looked down at his own arms, tracing old scars and recalling the memories that came attached to each one. In many of these memories, he could recall the face of Luna, caring and terrified, as though she were looking at an injured child, rather than a warrior. Was that how she saw him? Was he nothing but a child in her eyes? The warrior came back to the present when the grey wolfess beside him asked him a question. It was nothing but ordinary small talk, yet Nox considered it seriously. After a moment of what appeared to be deep thought, amethyst pools made contact with Luna's yellow moons, and their light reflected in them. "Well... I-I might enjoy th-the party more i-if I could see you s-smile..." The boy spoke, lacking any of the shame that a more humanized luperci might be faced with when speaking words so personal and unguarded.

The bottle had been passed back and forth a couple times by that point, but Nox took little more than sips, making sure not to reach a state where he would find himself unable to fight should the need arise, but before long, the boy's buzzed mind came up with what seemed like a brilliant idea at the time. Luna smelled so sweet, and her presence had always made the male so happy. perhaps she wouldn't mind... Standing up, Nox turned to face the seated silverfox, bending at the waist, the male put one arm bent behind his back, and extended the other towards her, offering his hand in a gesture that he had seen once or twice before at parties much like this one. "Luna... W-would you d-dance with me...?" The male asked, his smile only growing, and adding with it a wag of the tail as he took the woman's hand gingerly in his own, helping her up off the ground, his body quite strong for someone of his size, his form strung together with a lean musculature.

Standing tall, as tall as the petite male could manage, the wolf dog adjusted his grip on her hand until they were palm to palm, and with grace of movement he moved the other hand to her waist, looking up at her and smiling as he allowed himself simply to sway with her, hoping that his smile and the moment with a dear friend might brighten her day if only a tiny bit.

It was nice, having him there. Better to talk to someone who was real than your own thoughts. To let yourself be distracted from the imprisonment that waited for you in your own head, from things you would much rather let sink into the black void of nothingness never to return. There wasn't much of that anymore. Well, not much that Luna herself didn't live in anyways. The white warrior beside her was comforting, as she looked towards him while he spoke. With the tilt of the head, Luna felt that he was always one to try and make her feel better, even when he had problems of his own weighing down. It really meant a lot, now that she thought about it.

Though she couldn't resist a laugh as he almost choked on his first sip, covering her muzzle to try and save him some embarrassment. "Not even now?" she teased lightheartedly, shaking her head. Poor kid, he would always try or do things, even if it made him uncomfortable. Well, as far as she knew at least. To Luna's knowledge, all Nox ever did around her was try things she was either currently doing or talking about. Life had been so, boring without Nox around. Like it was an endless churn of the same old tasks, the same old hobbies. Just existing, without really living. Then she met him at the crossroads, and it's like she stepped into one of those books of adventure, and frights and terror and excitement. Almost like a fantasy. And there they were, years later, torn and battered from past adventures, but still living in this surreal world.

After she asked him a question, Luna took another swig of the bottle, but the answer she got made her stop mid drink, as she lowered the bottle and gave Nox as strange look. What she found was he was looking right back, as the two held the other's gaze for a few moments more. Twitching her mouth, Luna smirked and said "Wha, whatt?" She broke eye contact, looking off and away as she took another drink to conceal a smile. Nox was being, weird? Nah, it was probably her imagination. He had acted strange before sometimes when she'd tease him, but she always chalked it up to him being childish sometimes. Honestly, it was kind of fun to make him squirm a bit, if not a little cruel.

And so the night went on, as the bottle was passed back and forth, most of it's contents going into the wolf. Which made her very happy, so much so that she was even able to smile more, albeit fits of giggling also came and went. Eventually she came to lean closer to Nox, not minding the close proximity. Just this little bit of comfort, of security, it made her feel good again. What's more, the alcohol helped with not thinking, to just drift along and relax, enjoying the shared company. So it was a little strange when her shoulder rest suddenly moved, Luna finding that she had to support herself again as she squinted at Nox. Apparently, he had the urge to act super formal, even doing a sort of proper bow to ask her to dance. After staring at him for a second, the Alloces threw her head back and laughed.

"Ahahaha, sure, sure, for that, you get a dance." she said, taking a quick sip and setting the bottle down, taking his hand and fighting to get on her feet. His hand, firm yet guiding, was really helpful in walking, as that was not such a great skill as it once was. Light swishing kept a bass rhythm for the faster movement, as Luna allowed herself to be led deeper in the party. Raising a brow at the ease Nox had took her hand to lead as his other found her hip, Luna let her free hand wrap around his shoulders. "Oki, whataya up to?" she said, smiling down at her, compact friend. Being asked to dance out of the blue for no reason wasn't too strange, but Nox had to have some reasoning behind his actions, and that made Luna curious. And that made her want to investigate and pry further, to get into the mind of her friend. Not to be malicious or anything, but just out of general wonderment on how their minds functioned differently. Well, it was rather clear how different her mind functioned. But hey, what could she say?

She was curious about him.

All around them the pair, the festivities droned on and on. People talking, walking by, hues of reds browns greys and blacks in the fur of their pack mates becoming but a blur on the periphery of Nox's perception as he sat beside his friend of many years now. It was od, really. It was quite nice to be sitting beside his friend, talking, finding the company quite enjoyable, yet he felt bad and an air of negativity hung about them, the events of the recent past hanging over the pair like a fog. They served as a constant reminder that could not be shaken, of all the dark things in the world. They were the kinds of things that a parent would try to shelter their children from for as long as they possibly could, even well after their child had grown. It was events like these that served to let you know all too well that the monsters you grew up fearing in the dark were nothing compared to the real thing.

The boy drank only enough to make him a bit more... confident. Whether or not that would serve as a good thing was yet to be determined. As the silver fox questioned how her company wasn't stressing to him even now, the pallid boy couldn't help but to frown slightly, eyes becoming a bit downcast just for the moment. She had laughed at him, that much was certain, but Nox was determined not to allow himself to become discouraged today. He wanted nothing from Luna, but to make her smile, so if his little hiccup in pride could do just that, then it was okay. And he told her just what he was feeling. He wanted to see her smile, and this time it was her reaction that would draw a sweet smile and lighthearted chuckle from the male. "What, i-is that so bad? Y-your smile is... Nice." The boy admitted, wen she couldn't seem to think of something to say to him.

Luckily for the petite warrior, it was not long before Luna seemed thoroughly intoxicated, made evident by how readily she would smile and laugh at things. Nox had not seen the girl in such good spirits for quite some time, it almost made him sad to think about, but that was then, and this was now, and right now Nox simply wanted to dance. His invitation seemed to give the grey wolf plentiful reason to be amused, but Nox was not laughing, it was merely a warm smile that continued to grace his features as he drew a bit closer to the incredulous woman, holding her firmly yet giving her enough room to hopefully be comfortable. Nox may have been immature at times, but he knew unmistakably what had happened to the girl he held now, and he couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking, if she was uncomfortably with his proximity, as he looked up into her eyes.

That worry didn't remain so for too long however, the effects of the alcohol strengthened a bit as time went by, swimming in his veins as the wolf-dog danced with his wolf companion, swaying slowly at first before the male began to chuckle for no real reason other than that the alcohol had made him a bit "happy" as well. He looked up at the silver woman then, smiling and laughing as their slow dance turned into something a bit more upbeat, something with a little more bounce to it.

The night continued on much in the same fashion as this for the rest of the night, but there came a time when the party began to die down a bit, the attendees began to thin, loud chit chat devolving into quiet private conversations held by the few stragglers that still remained as day stretched into night and stars spanned the sky. It was then that Nina had come to Nox and Luna, a pair of overly tired pups trailing along behind her, and interrupted the "dance" that had since devolved into little more than a hug while the pair talked about things. "Nox, Luna, would you like me to see the pups home?" The female fox asked, fiery fur glimmering in the candle light.

"O-Oh, H-Hey Luna, how a-about Nina brings the pups to m-my den for the night? Th-they'll be fine with me, a-and I could... S-see you home..." The male suggested a bit more shyly this time, afraid at the prospect of rejection, not for the sake of his own pride, but because the male really did want to spend more time with Luna that night, if only just a bit. She was beautiful, and Nox didn't know what it was, but there was something about her scent that night that just made the male want to be around her even more so than usual.

There was a sense of normalcy to this simple act of calm. Sitting here, drinking and trading tidbits of conversation, it almost made her forget everything that happened. Almost. For one sworn to a life of violence and danger, Nox was almost unbelievably sweet, like he never even aged. It was the times where he acted mature that took Luna by surprise. Well, she knew that he wasn't a kid, but it was a hard fact to miss the way he acted, especially when the two of them were compared side to side. He wasn't exactly the tiniest creature in the pack, but Nox didn't appear to be a warrior at first glance. That's probably what made him good at it, as Luna mused about it. A crestfallen face drew lips thin, thinking of the snowy warrior putting his life on the line to keep them safe. Back when they lived down south, he would even train himself to the point where he fell over from exhaustion. She was so scared when she found him in the middle of the road once, that when Luna finally got him back to his room she demanded that she be allowed to tend to him till she declared him fit to leave.

Buzzing swirled in the haze as the alcohol tempered slightly, voices creeping back from their slumber. Taking another swig, Luna looked as if she were about to snarl, a disgusted look gorging holes into the dirt. Leave. was her only command, snapping back to an inquisitive face when she heard the male chuckle. He spoke quietly, prompting Luna to scan his face to divine where the punchline was in his little joke. But, strangely enough, he didn't have the face of when he was joking. "I don't get it." she told him, confusion plain on her features. Before long, the two went back to drinking and shooting the breeze, something the Alloces was very happy to do. Once during the night she could've sworn that Inuit stopped in her circuit around the party to look at her mother and "'Ncle Nox", to which the wolf cheerfully waved to her daughter, sending her away with a smile on the pup's face. The smile became her own though, at Nox's proposal for a dance.

If Luna remembered correctly, which was something of a task at the moment, Nox was never much of a dancer. Well, neither was she herself, but that was besides the point. To have him suddenly take her by the hand and waist, it was unexpected, if not impressive. She never knew that he had it in him. Though that is to say, the both of them were intoxicated beyond all nine rings of hell so who was she to know? All that Luna knew for a fact was that the air was warm, she was home, was a mother to two beautiful pups, in the best of company, and feeling really good. This was the closest she had gotten to forgetting, standing there in Nox's arms as their feet shifted, his hand moving slightly as it followed their momentum- and suddenly everything was dark, with her hands and feet bound, cold and afraid, lying in anguish and tears, feeling a weight pressing against her, not daring to hope for the day where she could just go back to a couch in the library and forget this ever happened because she'll likely be left to be bled dry before- and then she was back, frozen in time as her hand squeezed Nox's, claws out and biting into his fur.

"O-Oh, I uh..." she panicked, stepping back slightly and relaxing her hand. Her other hand, she realized, was shaking fiercely, and she started to wrap her arm back around his shoulders, clenching a fist to make her entire arm stop shaking. "Sorry..." she whispered, eyes gazing off to the side with ears pinned back. They went back to dancing, and Luna even broke a smile once more, grinning softly as Nox began to speed up the pace. After that went on for a while, Luna had about enough of the spinning around and around and around and around and around and- yeah, she just settled for slumping against Nox, hugging him tightly as she murmured whatever and whenever. He was holding her up with surprising ease, not that the wolf registered the fact.

Nina came by after a time, talking in Luna's general direction as she rested her head on Nox. "Hnnn...
Yeah, sure.."
came her response, but Nox suddenly sprung to life, suggesting that the pups stay at his place. Blinking groggily, Luna looked from Nox to her children, who appeared to be ready to drop themselves. "Mmm, ish fien." She loved the mixes with all her heart, but sometimes the lil buggers were more than she could take the morning after, especially with a hangover that she was gonna have.

Grabbing Nox by the arm, she waved bye to Nina and the kids, stumbling off and across the way to get back to her house. Though it should've been fairly a straight shot from the party to Luna's house, the wolf managed somehow still to detour from the path in all of her bumbling. "Heheh, uuuuuhhhh... Where ar we?" she asked, a little too tipsy to get a definite landmark. She let out a soft laugh, and wrapped an arm around Nox like a sailor trying to cling to the mast in the middle of a gale. Tonight was a good night.
