Her brother had found her once more. So why wasn't she hiding behind the borders of Inferni then? Because she had learned back in Cenzia Valley what would happen to those she stayed with. They had been slain before her eyes. She had watched her best friend, and sometimes lover, killed just because she had thought to say something against Fidel. Others had come to intervene but the damage had been done. She hated to think what happened to those poor souls whom had stepped between her and Fidel so that she could escape. She couldn't allow for such a thing to happen again.

Joa had dressed the maned wolf girls warmly before slipping away from the den and leaving them on their own. This, in itself, wasn't unusual for she did this many mornings so that she could go out and round up something for them to eat. They had nestled together to share in the warmth of the furs but hadn't allowed her to leave without question on a normal day. As much as she had tried to hide it they could sense that something was off with her. She gave them multiple reassurances before they would finally think to rest once more.

The southern bred coyote woman had wanted to rouse someone else to watch over the children but she hadn't brought herself to do so. She wouldn't be able to take another inquisition without breaking down. Instead she had fled and hoped that someone else would stumble upon Luison and Jasy Jatere and would care for them. Maybe Deigo would take them in. She didn't expect her luck to hold out and allow for her return to Inferni.

So rather than hiding and risking more causalities she had placed herself out in the open. Joa had settled on her back in the snow beneath the wilted and drooping flowers. Normally the cold would have bothered her and so she could never be found in such a position but the contents of the bottle from which drank kept her warm for the time being. She drank the mezcal with reckless abandon, not savoring it but just taking one mindless sip after another. Even those inexperience with drink could tell that she was trying to drown all of her problems and find a solution at the bottom of the bottle.

Her siblings might have cuffed her for coming out here and she wouldn't have blamed them. Coming out so soon after the war was dangerous, especially considering all the ruckus that had been thrown up over the war between the wolves of the Boreas faction and those of the coyotes and hybrids from either side of the divider that made up both Inferni and Salsola. She could understand in some way, the idea behind a religious battle between two species though she did not believe, wholly, that the Goddess would ever force them to the ground or into a spot they could not free themselves from.

While slaves had died, while members from either pack had had their lights extinguished, Calla was thankful for the members at home that had done their duties to protect her home and her from what could have been a terrible situation.

She was cloaked in furs and pelts, riding slowly through the field of flowers on the back of Aube who had, for the longest time, been prodding through the wilted, browned stalks that rose from the slush of snow and ice a direction that Calla had not sent her off in.

In truth, her eyes sought one canine and one canine only, though her path led her into a direction where she could already scent the presence of another. A canine who smelled somewhat like Helena had but one with less of a presence of Inferni. They really were close, weren't they? Inferni and Salsola? She thought momentarily that it might have been the red splashed she-yote she'd promised to see soon enough, though luck seemed forfeit on her side.

While she stalked through the shoots and snow, her eyes were peeled on the horizon. Beneath a tree only a short distance away, she could see the form of a woman perched against the tree, sat in the snow of all things. She tugged the cloak of furs about her more, hiding the green dress fully from sight before quietly she approached.

It was impossible to hide the large gypsy pony, though she wasn't particular about how she did it. The pony itself was, like her, doused lightly in the rosey scent of her oils, not so strong that they were overpowering but enough so that even the mud prone scent that she normally covered some of it up with was barely a note beneath the rest. "Aren't you cold?" she asked as she slowed the horse to a stop, her ears flattening against her skull, her head canting in curiosity.

Thanks for starting. <3

The coyote woman blinked her eyes a few times as she sought to clear her vision that had started to fuzz around the edges. She stared blearily at the woman and horse who had approached her. A couple of beats passed between the question that was asked and the answer that she finally gave, for it took her that long to recognize the question and come up with an answer. "Is warm." The words were slightly slurred and bottle was hefted up to indicate what it was that she was talking about. "Some? Want?" The bottle was jiggled in the other woman's direction briefly before Joaquina brought it back to muzzle to sip at again.

She felt numb, both against the cold and the troubles that were on her mind. In fact Fidel was no longer even a flicker of a thought. In fact it was a blessed relief to be unable to worry about anything any longer. Of course she couldn't keep this up for too long as she didn't have too large of a stash of bottles and she was unable to obtain more. She knew some of the basics of making the drink but she lacked the main ingredient for it. There were no cacti in this frozen land for her to turn into alcohol.

Once more she blinked her eyes slowly before narrowing them in order to try and focus on the animal with the woman. "Grande." With the bottle she motioned to the horse. "Embarazada?" She asked of the horse. She wasn't used to seeing draft horses about. In fact this was the first one of such a kind that she had encountered, which was what had prompted her question in the first place. She could think of no other reason for a horse to be so large than for it to be with child.

It was with confusion at first that the other canine looked up to find the comfort of her gaze. A small grin perked at the edge of Calla's maw, only fading with the added time that she had to wait for an answer to finally come to her. The other woman seemed to be in something of a daze, or perhaps that was the drink the coyote woman held in her grasp.

Quietly, Calla freed herself of the horse for but a moment, stepping over the saddle so that she could lightly vault to the ground beneath, not too far due to her height, where she quietly led Aube closer, the Gypsy horse lightly nipping at back of Calla's hair, never pulling despite the urge to do so.

"Warmth, in the bottle?" she asked, watching as Joaquina brought it to her lips for a drawl of its warmth inducing contents. Offered to her, Calla quickly inched closer, letting go of Aube's reins long enough to reach out to take hold of the bottle, stifling a cough when she finally brought it to her lips for a tentative sniff and sip.

As the drink scorched down her throat into the pit of her belly, she knelt down, moving to press herself onto a few browned flower stalks that flattened against the ground as she pushed them to the side to get herself a comfortable seat against the cold ground, handing the bottle back to the woman.

Aube shifted before inching off a short distance from the two, her saddle bags lightly weighted against her midsection without Calla sitting on her.

It was easy to pick up the woman's accent when she spoke in her foreign tongue. It drew Calla's attention like an insect to a flame and immediately, Calla's entire visage perked at the sudden language bomb being thrown her way. While french accented, as people from her home typically was, Spanish was not something that evaded her knowledge. She'd had to learn some growing up, along with her french and the common tongue of the area. She took a moment to glance back at her horse before shaking her head. "Just fat," she quietly said, using common tongue rather than the language the girl spoke. "I don't take her out often enough."

"Why are you drinking on your lonesome?" she questioned.

Joa nodded her head when she was questioned. "Comodidad." She added to the description of the drink. Of course that comfort would end up relinquishing its grip once morning came around and the bottle had been emptied. But for now she hadn't a care in the world. It was a blessed feeling, one that she couldn't have ever having without being imbibed. No, this wasn't the first time that she had drank to forget herself. It was her turn to vice, one that she would soon have to find a substitute for once the drink ran out.

"Fat." She repeated the word and continued to stare with a squinted line of vision at the horse. "Ella está huyendo." The southern coyote woman declared as the horse ambled a short distance away. Joa was quick to get to her feet, and just as quick to land on her butt. Her stability had declined with each sip that she had taken and now it was entirely nonexistent for the time being.

Her attention was drawn back to the woman when she was questioned. "Not alone." A smile staggered its way across her maw and her hand reached out to seek to lay atop the other woman's hand. "Estás aquí." Once more she took a sip from the bottle. The del Bosque woman was long past drinking her worries away but was now drinking to drink, drinking to have something to do. Yet another sip was taken before the bottle was surrendered for the other woman to take once more. "Joaquina. ¿Tú?" The introduction was given though it was slurred around the edges like the rest of her speech. "Tienes los ojos más hermosos de todos." The compliment was quickly followed by a laugh. "That sounds really stupid." She wasn't so far gone that she couldn't recognize when she said stupid things, just past the point of being able to stop them from being spoke in the first place.

Calla had only ever taken to mushrooms for comfort. That was after she'd lost the child, or children, that would have been Loki's bastards considering they were not mates and would never be now that she knew that he was pursuing the other woman. Dark eyes settled on the darker furred canine as she answered her question and then returned to nurturing at the bottle till it was time to speak again. Calla had nothing against drunks. In fact, if she'd known how beneficial alcohol was to providing one with an out in dire situations, she may have taken up a bottle when she was at home and considering the ramifications of approaching Loki on a matter that was done and over with.

Her eyes darted to her mare's amble steps only after Joaquina alerted her to the fact that she was walking away and Calla could only grin lightly as the other woman fell to the ground, completely inebriated. It was a weakness, Calla could tell, to become so intoxicated that moving became a chore of its own. However, her use of mushrooms had taught her a thing or two about holding her tongue. She was no longer worried about giving away Salsola's secrets. She knew innately that it was a bad deed and she couldn't see herself doing such a thing in the comforting company of another. "It's fine. She'll come back."

She took hold of the bottle only when it was offered to her, drinking leisurely of the woman's offering before passing it back. She knelt down, first on her knees, pulling back the green of her sundress so that she did not soil it on the ground as she tipped forward to settle lightly against the tree closest to the other woman, not bothering to move when her shoulders brushed the woman's or when her knuckles grazed her thigh.

"You're right. I am," she offered, relinquishing her thoughts on that matter. "I am Maylynn. You can call me May."

She turned to fully face Joaquina upon hearing her compliment, her legs brushing off to her side, closed for the most part in a show of modest bearings. "I don't think it's stupid. A woman likes to be complimented," she managed with a small smile. "You have pretty eyes too. Pretty eyes to match a beautiful woman."

Joa's didn't have any experience with mushrooms but she did know her cacti. There was the alcohol made from it which she was drinking. There was also a tea that she drank when looking for more than superficial answers from the fires that she divined with. Of course both of these options would be lost to her once her stash ran out. The ingredients couldn't be gathered in this far northern land. They wouldn't be able to survive the cold and frost of the region, much as how she felt most of the time.

It wasn't often that she drank to excess, only when presented with things that she couldn't easily deal with. Her brother was a major one of these things. There had also been the loss of Cenzian life that had led to her imbibing before. She was hoping not to have to repeat the gesture with Infernian life as well. They already had enough issues of their own that they needn't to have to deal with her issues as well.

Joa looked down to where the parts of their bodies touched and simply stared almost as if she couldn't fully comprehend what was happening. That was perhaps true for her process of thinking had been slowed down and numbed by the drink as well. Her eyes lifted from their study when the woman spoke again. "May." She repeated the other's name once it was given. It wasn't as exotic as she had thought it would be given the other's accent. In fact it sounded more like the sort of names as the hounds would have. "The Casales have a longhorn named Maybelle."

Joa smiled when she was complimented. She had never really considered her own looks before. Looks had never featured into anything she did, only the skills she possessed. The southern woman was on the rangier side given the harshness of the environment she had come from. But that was simply standard of those with desert breeding and so she hadn't stuck out down South as she did up North. "You should go South then. You will be surrounded by beautiful women the further you travel."

The tide keeps calling, tugging
tugging, tugging

Flirtation was generally a good way to gauge another individual's reaction to her, whether they could be interested in her approach or whether they'd be open to further relationship, though this particular individual was a woman. It drew her mind to Helena, a canine from Inferni she hadn't had the chance to see in a while. As if trying to brush the thought of the woman from her mind, she waited for Joaquina to finish with her turn at the bottle before taking another sip of it herself, passing it back as the swift burn of the alcohol rushed down her throat, filling her belly with its warmth.

The other woman didn't seem to mind the position they were in, though Calla did notice the way her eyes registered the touch of her shoulder against hers and the ghosting brush of her fingers against the other woman's thigh. Perhaps Calla was taking advantage of Joaquina's inebriation to get close. Perhaps it was just Calla acting natural around a woman who might as well have never even met her, since she didn't know Calla's real name. Maylynn was something she'd come up with on spot, something to hide the old name she'd sort of shattered when she'd stolen from the traders in the most recent months past.

"I don't know any Casales," Calla remarked, her eyes focusing on the intoxicated woman's. Already, she could feel the warmth of the liquor burrowing into her senses, eating away at the reserves of her consciousness. She couldn't help but return the smile when Joaquina reacted to the brief compliment offered her way. "I find enough beautiful women here," she said curtly, canting her head at the strange, exotic woman, her French accented tone besmirched momentarily.

"Drinking so much out here.." she started, her eyes settling on Joaquina's, "makes me think you're running from something back home. You're free to run away from it with me for today, if you'd like to."

"Casales not from around here. They back in Cenzia Valley. Casales keep after lots of longhorns." The cows didn't really belong to the dogs, or to anyone at all really. They were semi-feral creatures that the curs took care of. Trinidad had ended up with one of the cows and she had brought things to decorate it with. "You have longhorn?" She asked since the woman didn't say anything against the breed of cow. it made Joa assume that the woman knew exactly what they were, perhaps she had even seen one or owned one before if not now.

She shook her head slowly and stared down at the mostly empty bottle. "No. Not home. He here somewhere." A hand was waved about to indicate the general area without her looking up. "Have to leave home cause of him. He kill Asray. No let him kill Jasy Jatere and Luison too." Inferni probably would have defended her had she asked it of them but she hadn't done so. She didn't want anymore lives given for her own.

The bottle was handed over so that Calla could finish it off. "What you run from?" She made the assumption, from the phrasing that was used, that the woman she knew as May was trying to run away from something as well. "Or is it who too?" Perhaps there was someone that troubled the other woman's thoughts as well. Maybe she was out here to escape from whoever it was that plagued her, or like Joaquina, was seeking liquid courage to face whoever it was that was on her mind. "I stay til he come then I have go." The southern woman made the promise. She didn't want to involve this Maylynn in her troubles but she did enjoy having the company. It was no fun to drink alone, though the drink had run out.

Part of her interest in the woman was the different accent she carried, the Spanish she spoke. If it had been anyone else, she might have wandered off but it was interesting for the most part that she could just sit here and have a good time with this stranger. She let her eyes wander from the woman to Aube, pointedly making sure that the horse was still close by before she let her gaze cut back to Joaquina.

She couldn't say that she'd ever really heard of Long horn cows. She'd never really even seen one; well, she had seen cows just not very many with horns. Blue eyes followed the other woman in her venturing look over her bottle before she shook her head in answer, hair bouncing lightly around her ears in the process. "Can't say that I've seen them. You keep talking about down south, though. Are you from there?" Calla asked patiently.

"Guy problems. I know about those first hand," she managed with a little nod of her head, inching closer so that she could turn around and face Joaquina. "Your problems sound much worse than mine, though. Do you think he'll leave?" she questioned earnestly, her eyes shifting from Joaquina to the ground between them. "I'd hate for you to have to keep running. Being out on your own is hard."

It wasn't hard to think or believe that Maylynn, as Calla was being called, was running from something or someone. There was always a reason for being out on one's lonesome. Most of the time, it was trading or selling fake potions and perfumes. Sometimes, it was to mark others that she passed by in the mean time. "I'm not necessarily running from anything. I just want to have a good time," she answered honestly.

"The drink is gone.." she managed after an observant glance, "I have something we can share, if you want. It's not like your alcohol, though. It can make you feel good."

She hefted herself up from the ground, moving toward Aube who came when she yipped lightly at the gypsy horse. One hand into the pouches and saddle bags and Calla had herself a woven bag of mushrooms, some freshly picked, others that had been dried for use. She inched back to Joaquina and slid back down onto her bottom beside the other woman, docked tail wriggling behind her.

Incoming mushrooms. :)
