"Yes." She nodded her head. "Far south. Long way away." It had been a long and arduous journey to reach this land that Diego had spoken of before he had left on the trip. Perhaps it would have been easier if she had traveled with the group rather than making the trip on her own long after they had already left. At least then she would have someone else to have watched her back but she had eventually made it.

Joa frowned and shook her head when she was questioned to whether or not she would be left alone. "No. He stay. He follow me long way. From place of birth to home to new home. He no leave. Always look for me." She didn't often speak of her brother. It showed in her clipped sentences and the way that she stared anywhere but at where the other woman had seated herself. Her tone of voice had even grown softer when she mentioned him. It was almost as if she was afraid that the more she spoke of him then that he might suddenly appear, as if summoned by her mention of him.

"Is not so hard." She finally looked up at the woman introduced as Maylynn again. "Being on your own." She even added on a smile to her words. "Can hunt good and make fire." Which is what most of her journey had consisted of. "Sister wind, she help too." The elements had been in her favor on her run from the South to the North.

The southern coyote woman nodded her head when it was mentioned that the drink was gone. "Not have too many more left. Only couple bottles back home." She hadn't brought everything out with her as she hadn't wanted to be completely smashed when Fidel would eventually find her again. "What you got?" She asked and watched as the other woman got up and moved over to her horse. "You leave now?" She asked, sounding confused as to why the other was heading back to her horse after offer something in return for the drink.

The confusion dispersed when the other woman came back over with a bag of something in her hands. "What that?" She asked and leaned over to try to peek into the bag.

The tide keeps calling, tugging
tugging, tugging

At some point, Calla realized that speaking about Joaquina's guy, whoever he was, was affecting her train of thought and her good time. There was nothing worse than an emotional drunk. She knew that inwardly after witnessing one or two of them in her travels. While she was certainly interested in the gossip, so to speak, she let it drift from her mind momentarily and shook her head at the thought that anyone would disturb them in the midst of their fun.

Blue eyes found the other woman's for a moment, a hand drifting between the two to lightly curl her bent pointer finger beneath her snout, just barely brushing against fur and skin. "Don't worry about him, okay? You're here with me right now and we're going to have fun and forget about those things for a while."

Calla did not hunt when she was out on her own. She always brought food from home to keep her fed on her trips. When she didn't, she traded with passersby for meats and soups, most often the two meals she found that travelers carried. When she rose to grab for the bag of mushrooms, the other woman seemed finicky in nature, fearful that Calla was going to leave. It brought an innocent smile to the fox-like woman as she turned on the balls of her feet to return to the strange, exotic woman, settling in place on the ground with her new bag of adventures.

She held it out to Joaquina, offering her a few of them. "They're mushrooms. The good kind. They let you see the magic in the world and make you feel good on top of that, like you're floating," she answered in a gingerly matter-of-fact like tone.

"We can eat some together. Not all of them, but some," as she reached into the bag, taking three or four of them into her hand, scooping them up to her mouth to chew and swallow at them. She'd never much cared for their taste but it didn't bother her all that much right now. She could feel the alcohol on her tongue and the heat of it swelling in her belly. Reservations were long gone.

"Tell me about your home?" she questioned lightly, moving to lean into and against the other, one leg crossing over the other to lightly settle against Joaquina's.

Eyes lifted to land upon the woman whom sat next to her when her chin was touched. "I drink to forget." She said and waggled the empty bottle. "Work for small time. Not long enough." It would last throughout the day and then then thoughts would return, as well as sickness from having spent the previous day imbibing. She would never say that it was worth it but still she did it anyways.

"Peyote." She said and perked up a bit when the properties of the mushrooms were explained. "Is not mushroom. Is cactus. No find here." Still she took a dried mushroom from the bag and sniffed at it. "Peyote used to read fire. See what coming." At least every time she had done peyote she had been divining as well. She hadn't tried it all on its own. "Need fire?" She asked and glanced around for suitable material with which to build a fire from. All wood would be moistened or frozen from the snow and would take awhile to light and burn.

Her search was cut short when the other woman leaned against her. "South home or here home?" She asked and finally popped the mushroom into her mouth to chew. "Both full of coyotes. Both have dogs. South home have more dogs. South home hot, here home cold." She paused as she tried to think of more comparisons that she could come up with between the two places. "South home rabbits lean and fast, here home rabbits fat and slow." She said as she remembered the time she had freed the rabbits of Inferni with Dela only to have them not scatter so that they could be chased as she had done with the jackrabbits in the south. The prey instinct to run from a predator seemed to have been bred out of Inferni's lot. "You have home too? Or stay by you self?"

"There are other ways," Calla said, a small grin perking at her lips as the other woman spoke. Mushrooms didn't help. Neither did alcohol. But when she was in the midst of other activities, she was never really thinking about those things that got her down and blue. She managed to shake her head when asked about a fire, and as she leaned into this woman she barely knew, she felt something of a sense of camaraderie, though she knew part of that was the alcohol and the other part was their talks of home. Calla was not from around here either and had made the journey with her brother to chase down their siblings that were making a name for themselves in Salsola. She couldn't tell this stranger any of that.

"We don't have to use a fire or seek divination," she replied in earnest. "We just need to revel in the mushroom a while longer and then we can do as we please," a moment later. "Do you believe in magic, Joaquina?" She turned her gaze back to Joaquina, teeth biting at the inside of her cheek for a moment as she considered what to answer. "I'm from further north. Where it gets a little colder than it does here." Would definitely explain her coat.

"I live by myself here, though," not a lie since she was essentially living by herself. Hadn't even moved from the home she'd started when she was first rising through the ranks of Salsola. She didn't need to mention Salsola. All of that was lost to her with the rose and mud scented perfumes that riled from her flesh and fur.

"Do you like rabbits? I've only ever held one and it was scared so I had to put it back in its pen," she explained, waiting for the initial high of the mushrooms to take root within her. She eased closer to the woman in the meantime, admiring the warmth of her body against her own, even if she'd been here in the cold much longer than Calla had.

She couldn't help but wonder what the other woman had in mind as far as her thoughts of the moment went. "Did you prefer your home down south or do you like the one here more?"

"What other way?" She had only ever turned to the drink when she wished to forget. She didn't know of any other option besides that. "One make you not be sick?" Because that was certainly the downfall to drinking so much. And well, the other would be that now she had a limited supply. She had brought the bottles with her in order to reunite with the other Cenzian citizens that had come to Inferni but that hadn't come to pass. Not long after she had joined she had been found out by her brother and therefore used her drink in order to forget about him and all of the trouble that he was destined to cause.

"Fire is magic. She live in her own world but come when I call her." At least in the faith of the Cenzian coyotes it was close enough to being magic as it wasn't something that was naturally concurring. One didn't just stumble across fire as one did water or earth. Fire had to be created and so that was a magic form in and of itself. So along with fire other elements were celebrated and her personified.

Joa reached over to rest her hand atop the other woman's. "Is lonely to always be alone." Joa had at least had the girls to keep her company on her travels even if they couldn't hunt for themselves or build fires. They had been there for her to talk to. She told them stories mostly but at least she had companionship that she wouldn't have had elsewise.

"Rabbit okay to eat. South rabbit not have much meat." At least she was assuming the other had meant it as a food source at first. "Here home rabbit not afraid of anything. I bark and they stay. I clap and chase and they stay too." She hadn't attempted to eat them since they were kept caged. Joa had learned before that caged animals were usually meant to be kept as company and not as food. She had been in trouble before for eating someone's pet.

She leaned into the other woman, milking up the warmth that spread where the parts of their bodies touched. "South home warmer. No hurt to walk there." The coyote woman reached down to remove the bandages wrapped around the pads of her feet to show where the ice had cut through them and had caused them to bleed before. The cuts were still there and were still tender. "Here home hurt to walk." She said as she showed off the damage.

The tide keeps calling, tugging

Calla's way offered pleasure in respite of the pain. It didn't get you sick. It offered something of a release. She didn't get into it yet. The context of what she was talking about was somewhat aired between the two, though she wasn't sure whether Joaquina would understand that or if Calla would have to go into detail or just show her. Instead of forcing it, she shyly managed to answer the exotic coyote from the south. "Mhmn," Calla managed with a small smile, "though I'm not sure if you're the type." Calla shifted her weight so that most of it was pressed into the tree, partially upon her. She could not understand one's fascination with fire but knew that fire held a magic that most people figured was a destructive force. She knew it could also be a rejuvenating force, something to cleanse.rather than destroy.

Joaquina had taken a mushroom, she now ate at it while the both of them sought the release it promised. Visions were possibly a side effect of the mushroom but it took more than just a few to force Calla into their hallucinations. Rather, she let herself nod to the other woman in quiet understanding.

"You don't have to be alone all the time, though, Joaquina. Like right now, I'm here," she offered, a grin slipping to the corner of her maw. She let her head relax, allowing it to lay itself at Joaquina's shoulder before the other woman showed off her feet. Injury was not very uncommon for coyotes or canines who came from down south. They didn't know how to avoid it during the harshest seasons like someone who was born here could. "Is there anything I can do to make you feel better? I'm not a healer or anything but I could always warm you up," Calla, as Maylynn, offered as Joaquina shifted and leaned into her rather than pull back as some might have. Calla let the bag of mushrooms settle between her legs and on the ground.

She could already note some changes in the coloring of the world around her. Sharper. More intense. Her skin felt light at her body, her weight trivial in this sense. Blue eyes moved to focus on Joaquina.

"What type need to be?" She asked before a grimace transformed her features when she spoke again. "Not coyote?" The words were spit out. A rigidness overcame her body that all too often she had heard something along the lines of how she would be pretty if only she weren't a coyote. She had never understood the point in saying such a thing. Either she was pretty as she was or she wasn't. She didn't get why there had to be an if included in the statement. Her lip lifted in a silent snarl as she thought of all the backhanded compliments that she had received over her travels.

"I don't mind being alone." She huffed out the words, still upset about the supposed meaning behind Maylynn's words. "It easier. Being alone. No worries." Her words were halting and spoken brokenly, in short little statements rather than one whole piece. She had originally meant the words for Maylynn's benefit rather than it being something that she herself felt. She had depended on only herself for so long that she couldn't say that she was upset by it. It had simply been how she had spent much of her life, with intermittent pauses where others had become involved. In the end she always seemed to wind up alone.

She looked at the other woman when the offer was made to warm her up. "You make it no cold anymore?" There was certainly no way that she could say no to that. If her feet were anything to go by then the cold certainly wasn't her friend in any way, shape, or form. So if the other woman could make it so that she would be rid of it entirely then there was no way at all that Joaquina could possibly refuse. "Do it."
