(480) wow raze ONLY LAST PARAGRAPH IS RELEVANT

For probably the first time in his life, Pascal was excited to leave the Kingdom.

It wasn't something that he'd done before, not truly -- not to go anywhere, at least, not even another pack or landmark. He'd roamed the beach and the forest dozens of time, either to hunt or to read a book to the backdrop of the surf, but he grew uncomfortable and frightened when he went too far. Lately, he'd spent even less time outside the borders, as he'd been dealing with family issues and, more recently, working on gathering the skills needed for his profession. But it became clear that he wasn't going to advance any more unless he learned, and with the encouragement from his friend and his father, he struck out northeast.

Halifax was his destination, as it supposedly had a library where some interesting books could be salvaged. Though he wanted to become a chandler to augment his main rank, being a librarian was his truest passion. He wanted to sit in the old abandoned building and open up the books and read that small print, turn those torn pages, invent stories wherever a leaf was torn out or stained to undecipherable levels. He wanted to pick them and note their usefulness and bring them home and cultivate the library like someone might a garden, so that even generations from now the canines of Cour des Miracles could read the words he'd hand-picked.

It was a wonderful idea, but first he had to get there.

And it was slow going. Skoll had offered to escort him, equally interested in what the library had to offer, and they set out on foot. It was probably twenty miles in a direct-route to the suburbs, a journey that could be taken in five hours if they walked on four legs without rest, but Pascal's nerves got the best of him occasionally, and the route they took along the beach was not the quickest. Everything was new and different, and he was burdened by the box he carried along with him. He was hungry, too, and finally Skoll -- his Secui bodyguard -- had offered to catch him something, if he felt safe alone. Pascal, knowing he wouldn't have someone watching him forever, agreed.

As Skoll ran off toward the plains to find a rabbit or deer, the Sadira man found himself sitting on a jutting rock at the edge of a cove, staring down at the froth of the water. There was some dead fish at the edge of the rocks, wobbling with the lap of the waves, but he felt sick if he stared at it too long. Instead, he rested his arms across the top of the box balanced on his legs, sighing and staring out toward the vague outline of Halifax in the east.

His training with Sebastian had been particularly harder in the recent days, possibly after Alexander had yelled at Alistair about not being a "fighter". Alexander had been training with Sebastian for some time now, for he had been ditching Alistair's training to become an archer like Sebastian, and while he had passed many of the challenges that Sebastian had presented him with, but these last few weeks had been definitely longer and harder than anything of the past and since he was so tired, he decided to take a lazy trip outside of the Fort and Casa to go to the beach. He was not one for sand and water, normally but the male had to deal with some thinking and he figured that the sound of waves might be enough to calm his nerves and perhaps get some of those writer juices flowing. He also was going to think about the things that he had said to Alistair, because he still felt weird about how much he had told his brother and how angry and frustrated both of them got with each other. The young Prova was going to try to make it to see Alder, perhaps since he was heading out that way anyways, but not only did he pretty much get lost (and he decided to follow along the beaches, remembering that the pack was on the coastline. He and Cochise traveled along the coast, with little sign of others in sight. The sounds of waves were already calming his nerves, and he found himself strangely content where he was.

Alexander looked out and saw a pretty little cove in the distance along with rocks that were out over the water, and this made Alexander curious as to what was over there, and if the water was shallow and nice there so he started to head over. He was still far enough away to not see the figure of the ash and crimson male, but as Cochise trotted along, Alexander could see the male at the edge of the rocks. The water didn't look too shallow when he finally got close enough but Alexander caught the scent of the court coming off from the male over at the edge of the rocks, so he dismounted his steed and threw a coyote-like yip in the direction of the other male and when the male turned he waved and started to come closer. He did not come close enough to get in the male's face or anything but he got close enough to speak comfortably with him. I uhm...noticed your scent. M-My name is Alex Knight. I was kinda heading to uhm...your pack to see my friend, Alder. But uhm.. I'm kinda, uh...l-lost...Can you help? asked Alex, obviously uncomfortable talking to a stranger, but he knew the scent anywhere and he kinda did need the help trying to find the pack that he had not visited before. He knew that it was close, but Alex was not the best at actually knowing where he was going besides if he was heading home, or to somewhere where he knew where to go.

(—) Would you mind using a different table? ^^; Even the black text is hard to read on that textured background.

Pascal balanced an elbow on the edge of the box and tilted his cheek against his fist, one uncurled finger rubbing the side of his mouth. The ocean's roar was a constant backdrop of white noise, a soft hiss and splash against the rocks—peppered with the mews of gulls, too. His sensitive ears appreciated it, and so when the constant sound was interrupted by the quiet thud of horse hooves in the sand and a coyote yip, he felt jarred.

Ears swept back defensively as his cheek lifted off his hand, pastel green and dark blue eyes fixed on the approaching hybrid and steed. He wasn't sure which to watch more closely; the horse, part white and part chestnut, stepped with quick, almost skittish movements—and Luperci, strangers, were a danger anyway.

The dark coywolf waved a hand and approached, and Pascal shifted his weight, his toes touching down on the sand. He kept the box balanced on the rock with a hand, so that it wouldn't tumble into the water and break or soak. He stared blankly at the stranger until the male stammered an explanation, introducing himself. The name—which matched his scent—made the wolf relax, if slightly, and he forced an awkward smile onto his face.

I can help, Pascal said, his tone flat and contrasting with his smile. I'm Pascal Sadira. Cour des Miracles is down the beach, that way. If you follow the shore, you can't miss the scent. He pointed with a hand that soon returned to comb nervously through his curly hair.

And, with the directions given, the young man seated himself on his rock again and resumed staring at the ocean.

ooc: sooo late ;-; I'm sorry girlie! [457]

Alexander had not had to deal with someone that was different like the male in front of him. He noticed the smile, but also the flat tone in which he was greeted. Long bushy tail that his mother had given to him had flicked left and then right, curiously as the bright forest green eyes of the Casa Prova had looked at the male of varying shades. The male was so unique looking, and so mottled that Alexander didn't know what color the male truly was besides the pale gray that had caught Alex's eyes as he had gotten closer to the male. He was curious looking, not plain like Alex's own pelt(at least by his own standards) and his tone that contrasted his friendly smile. His eyes were aso curious, one was almost the same color as his own eyes while the other was a bright blue color. It's a pleasure to meet you, Pascal. the gentleman spoke, bowing his head lightly to this new male that he met, and he listened as Pascal continued to speak and tell him that if he followed the beach, it was to lead right to the pack of mutts, the pack of Miracles. The Court.

It was then that the rust colored male turned away from Alex and resumed staring at the ocean. This had given Alex a sense of the male being rude while Alex was trying to be polite so he did get somewhat offended, and he didn't quite understand what was wrong with this wolf. Uhm, excuse me, again, Pascal. the male spoke towards the other, trying to get his attention. Is there something...wrong or something? I did not mean to offend you if I did. he told the male, hoping that he did not offend Pascal, and maybe he could make another friend of the court out of this male rather than being just another random passerby that the male maybe thought that he was. Alexander flicked his tall ears back on his head lightly and he remained looking at the male. One hand went to his dragon claw necklace and he pulled it up and down it's chain nervously, the metal on metal making a small zipping as it moved up and down the chain. This motion repeated a few times as the male awkwardly shifted his weight on his feet.

The gentleman too raised his hand then to his long hair that was much longer than the male in front of him, and he pulled his akaroa colored fingers through his long coal locks of hair and let the bangs fall naturally back in front of his face. He anxiously awaited this male's answer.

No worries. :>

The Cavalieri had asked for directions, which Pascal had given; he didn't think that Alex might want to stop and chat more. When prompted, Pascal blinked and turned back toward the other, ears pricked with confusion. The question puzzled him, and he said plainly: No. Nothing's wrong; you didn't offend me. He'd only asked a question that Pascal was more than happy to help answer.

But his mind swiped at what explanations it could find, and Pascal became aware that he'd done something wrong. His ears flattened down against his curly hair and he watched the other play with his necklace, not quite able to meet his green gaze. Was I rude? he asked, and while his tone didn't vary much, its quieter volume might have sounded weary. I'm sorry. I don't—I'm not like... I don't notice, sometimes, he explained, though wary of calling himself different. He didn't want to draw more attention to it than his habits already did. I wasn't thinking, I just thought you needed directions only... I'm not mad or offended or something. I'm sorry. His ears pressed down again.

You want to chat, right? Many Luperci filled their meetings with small talk and other unnecessary sound, though Pas enjoyed it if it was for the sole purposeof meeting someone. If Alex had approached him out of the blue only to say hi, he might have tried the small talk bit, but he didn't think the other would want to bother talking to him after he got the answers he needed. How do, uh, you know Alder? Did he take care of your horse? He glanced warily at the unevenly-greying creature.

Alex saw the questioned look that passed over the features of the male and this, in turn confused him. This man was odd, but Alex really couldn't put his finger on what exactly was different about him. His long tail flicked lightly back and forth as he considered the male, and then the boy easily spoke back to Alex, telling him that he did not offend and that nothing was wrong. He seemed so lonely out here by himself, but maybe the boy was more like he was, and preferred to be alone to think about whatever. It wasn't until The male started to explain himself that Alex too let his ears flatten against his skull. He threw his palms up and shook them lightly. Oi,I-I'm sorry, you did not offend me! I was just confused, you seem to be around my age a-and I thought that you might want to talk more or something since I was heading towards your pack! he spoke, apologetic to the male and giving a nervous smile to his handsome lips. He even flipped up his large ears to tilt toward the male. Pascal asked if he wanted to chat and he nodded his head lightly and let the boy continue to speak shortly after he had seen the nod of Alex's head.

The boy asked him of the previous ownership of his horse and Alex shook his head at the boy's slight assumption that was in the form of a question. He held a soft smile at the change of subject and he glanced over at Cochise and then back to the other male. I got this horse from the stablemaster in Casa. Alder came to my pack some time ago and I greeted him at the border and we kinda talked and he told me that he would teach me some stuff. Alex told the boy, his tail wagging softly behind him and his hands coming to reach across his chest lightly, since he didn't know what else to do with his hands besides twiddle with his thumbs. I was going to follow up with him, and give him a few books and stuff....Do you..like to to read Pascal? asked Alex, wondering if the male had been educated enough to read. Alex knew that there were some wolves that did not know how to read, and he liked to sometimes read to them the stories that the humans used to tell. If Pascal liked to read, then Alex and he could trade stories, or books, or something. It'd make for an interesting conversation, and it was a lot less formal than some subjects.

The dark coywolf assured him with a faintly stumbling tongue, and some tension faded from Pascal's body. He supposed they had both misunderstood, but Alexander seemed happy now; Pas was unable to distinguish the nervous smile from a regular, happy one. His own lips twisted back to show his teeth, the expression fixed and odd on his face, a little too big and not quite right. A few beats of his tail did a little to take away from that.

Pascal glanced at the horse again. He didn't know what white horses were born other colors, so it seemed very odd to him -- half chestnut, almost roan in the middle, with another grey half. He nodded a little. I maybe want to visit Casa di Cavalieri some day, he said, awkward. He hadn't yet, though -- though he'd met other Knights, perhaps relatives of Alex. But... they teach fighting there. I don't want to learn it. He rubbed his mouth.

The word books changed the Sadira male immediately. Though his expression was utterly deadpan (his odd smile the exception), and it remained that way now, his ears pricked forward and the whole of his body grew a little rigid and excited. He had been someone else, he might have smirked or laughed, but presently he only patted the side of the box. That's what I've got this for, he said. Me and Skoll are going to the Halifax library to get some books for our pack. He wagged his tail. I want to be the pack's librarian.

ooc: slow j is slow [612]

The small signals of content that was shown to Alex made the boy settle greatly. He pushed passed the awkward moment that had occurred before and his nervous smile was replaced with a happier one. Alex noticed that the smile he received was tight and odd looking on the male's face but he didn't pay it much mind, for he didn't know why it looked weird and Alex didn't want to bring attention to it, in fear that he might offend the male in front of him. Alex didn't want to offend, and he simply wanted to be this male's friend, and he would try to do just that. When the male spoke of wanting to visit his pack, Alex rubbed the back of his head and put on another unsure smile, and when the male's words continued to say that he didn't want to learn to fight, Alex cocked his head lightly. So the male was a pacifist like he, and Alex understood the male more than he would have thought. Alex was a pacifist born into a world of brutes, who had poor social skill and made up morals that told one to fight in the name of honor, as if honor was so violent. Alex had no pride in Casa, because of the reputation of fighting, and knowing nothing but how he was forced to go to training as a young kid, and still hasn't gotten rank because of the fact that he was not going to fight someone else just to prove his worth. I know what you mean. We are known to have fair livestock, for breeding and such, if that interests you, though. the male suggested halfheartedly, looking to the male with his bright eyes. I do agree though, with the not wanting to learn to fight...I was born in Casa, so that's all I've really known, and I've been kept at the bottom of the ranks by my father because I refuse to fight for a rank. he spoke to the other boy, knowing not only the male's opinion, but feeling the pain of rejection of his family because of his low rank. He was the son of the Sole, he should have been a better son, Jazper should have been proud, but all Alex was doing was letting him down by learning to hunt and play music.

He looked away from the other male for a moment, saddened by the thought of being such a failure, but it was then that the male in front of him had perked up about reading books. Ears came forward, but a smile did not make his face, from what Alex would observe as he turned his eyes back to the other male. Alex gave a few wags of his tail as he glanced at the box that Pascal patted and the other explained that he was going to go to Halifax with someone named Skoll and get books. He also wanted to be the pack's librarian. That meant that the pack had a library, unlike Casa. Alex cocked his head and smiled happily. So you guys have a library huh? I wish Casa had one, then maybe we could educate some of the brutish men in our pack. the male commented, sighing lightly before he took a seat on the rocks next to the male, but not too close as to keep personal space between them. What kind of books do you like to read? he asked the boy, wondering what kind of books that Pascal liked to spend his time reading.

Slow Raze is also slow.

Pascal rubbed at his mouth again at mention of livestock. He liked to look at horses, sometimes, but he couldn't imagine riding one -- having to touch one with that much of his body just to not fall off. Discomfort was enough to deter him from learning to ride, not to mention his unease around the large animals. One could kill him with a well-aimed hoof. "I'm not really an animal person," he admitted. Except frogs and lizards -- those had been fun to play with, but he'd outgrown such games.

Alexander seemed to agree on his pacifistic views, and Pas smiled his odd smile again. "I'm glad we don't have to fight for ranks. One time my friend Skoll tried to fight someone else like that, and it was..." He stumbled, unable to find a word. Scary? He didn't want to revisit the memory, acutely missing Linden. "I'm just no good at it. I don't like -- touching people. I hurt easy." Ears folded into curly brown hair as he confessed yet another of his faults -- but he trusted Alex, who seemed so similar to him.

"It's only small, but I want to fix that," Pascal said, proud. He scooted on his rock a little to find a more comfortable place as Alex settled near him, not bothered as long as the dark male didn't try to touch him. "I like make-believe books a lot. Stories about magic roses and moving castles and evil tigers, that sort of thing."

ooc: You can pick which mythology book it is. [565]

Pascal informed him that he was not much of a animal person, and Alex shrugged. That's okay. he spoke, though his tone did seem to drop in octave when he did say these to words, he still wore a content look on his face. Alex had not been much of a horse person until he was given his bow, and he decided that he wanted to learn to ride and shoot. It also seemed like everyone else in Casa also had a mount and he figured he might as well try it out at least. It just seemed that things worked out over the months between him and Cochise, probably because they were so close in personality. Pascal went on to smile and talk about his friend Skoll and then he trailed off at the end of his sentence. Alex stumbled in his mind to find the word as well, but when it came, it seemed to come perfectly from his mouth, as if it was a realization, but in the form of a question. ”Frightening?” asked the boy to the other. They both were still young, and it was interesting that they were so alike, but...did that mean that Alex was like Pascal? Was Alex...weird? He inwardly worried, but he didn't think that he had the same problems, He didn't mind touching people, and he had been pushed around before, and it didn't hurt that much, it was just sudden and chaotic to him. He liked to think out his decisions and spend time, and fighting was not about deliberating. Fighting was about action. Fighting isnt't easy, nor is it fun, to me at least... I don't like hurting others, or being hurt either. he spoke. He didn't have much to talk about in the way of fighting, but he knew he didn't like it because things change after others have been in a life or death struggle at the hands of another Luperci.

Pas went on to speak about his library, a subject that Alex was much more interested in, and his large ears and bright eyes turned to Pascal and a brighter, anticipating smile returned to his face. He nodded his head, taking in the information that Pascal readily told him, and Alex believed that Pascal would be able to collect many books for the library, given he didn't run out of room. Well, as a gift for your growing library, I can give you the books that I have on me. he said to the boy, reaching to his satchel to retrieve a few books that he had. One of them was a book of poems, that he was to keep for himself, but the other was an information book about herbs, and the third was an old mythology book from Greece. Alex took the latter two books and handed them over to Pascal. This book is a reference book for herbs, and their healing properties. While, this book is one on mythology. It has a lot of cool stories in it, and I almost wasn't going to give it away, but I still have a few other mythology books that I need to go through and I'm sure that you could use this better than me. the male spoke to the other, a smile on his face.
