300+ OOC — Set 2/26/14, a couple days after The Challenge. Optime form.

There was no better way to describe it. Callum was grouchy. It had only been two days since Veyra had accepted his proposal, and while the prospect of joining families with her was exciting, he had discovered that it was not going to be happening just yet. Part of it was his desire to enter the Brotherhood in Casa prior to leaving. But there was also the talk that the pair needed to have with Zalen.

Veyra had made him as comfortable as possible outside the boundaries of the pack to wait out the duration of her heat, reasoning that Zalen would better appreciate having the discussion of mateship to his oldest daughter afterward, when neither Callum nor Veyra might be acting out of lust, rather than love. His fiancé had helped dig him a comfortable den and provided him with a bow and arrow to ease his food-finding, but the twinge in his leg would not fully go away no matter what he did. And the scabs broke open each time he shifted. Despite that, Callum hated to ask for assistance in hunting.

He wanted to find a bigger target for this shot, something that would last him the remaining days till he could speak with the Alpha, but his limping gait was irregular and tipped most prey off to his presence. Most prey scattered before he even got close, only the slowest being in any danger of death by arrow. Finally he found an opossum in the lower branches of a tree. It was the biggest he had ever seen as far as he could recall, and fitted an arrow to his string. While he typically would look for anything other than opossum, its meat would give him energy -- and it was a great deal slower than a deer.

His arrow arced through the air and struck the rodent.. but it was preceded a split second earlier by a different arrow shot from the brush to his right, that also impaled the creature. Either way, dead was dead, and Callum made his way to bargain with the owner of the other arrow even though he was not pleased to have to bargain.

The task of keeping his talent in the bow & arrow sharpened was not an easy one, but it had to be done. The archery stands in Inferni worked well enough, but Ehren had yearned for more interactive target practice. Now that he was within the coyote clan, his skills needed to be better than ever. He was not such a fool that he would slack off and meet his demise when a war broke out or a hostile trespasser came upon their land. And so he had set out, this wouldn't give him any pelts for trade as he wasn't searching for deer, but he could take the meat back to Inferni, he was already on a full stomach thanks to Maddox providing him with breakfast, which he was grateful for. It turned out making friends with the cook of his pack was a good idea after all. He hadn't exactly began talking to her just for the sake of getting some food, but he wasn't about to complain when she offered him something to taste. Everything she made was delicious, and it put him in a good mood for the next hours.

Finding a little rodent like an opossum was the perfect way to warm up -- it wasn't as difficult to hit as a hare. The doggish looking hybrid carried as smirk as he drew his bow back, aiming at the prey. When he let it fly, it hit right where he had wanted it to go. A grin was about to spread on his muzzle, but then a second later there was another that was surely not his ran through the creature, making it slowly lean to the side and then flop lifeless to the forest floor. Feeling a little sympathy for the poor thing but also knowing that it had to have died instantly, he stood then, walking towards the small figure of it, ears perked for the sound of footsteps for he knew the one that had shot that arrow would probably show himself as well. He heard them, glancing up to see a stranger appear in his line of vision. His brow quirked up at the sight.

It was another male, and a slightly strange-looking one at that. His eyes were an orange, a bit brownish like his own but not as dark. The pelt of the hybrid was almost entirely white as snow, but a darkness ran over a half of his face in an odd way that threw Ehren off. He clearly had no coyote blood in him, heavily a wolf, but also he had breeds of dog in him that made his muzzle appear slender in a different way than of many Infernians. Unsure whether or not he should apologize, he did strike the rodent first but didn't want to seem unreasonable or irritating in personality, he had no idea how long this mix had been hunting for a piece of meat. Ehren chose to remain silent and wait for the other to speak then, the expression on his face simply asking the man 'Well, got anything to say for yourself?'.

300+ OOC — OOC stuff

As it turned out, the other sharpshooter was male. He was a great deal shorter than Callum, brown with black markings, with large ears and a slim muzzle almost the same, yet different, from Callum's. He could not be certain what lent the man his physique or his markings. The Knight waited for him to say something about the opossum, unwilling to claim it because he knew it was not his to claim, but dearly wanting the meat he had been hunting for. He crossed his arms over his chest, quirking an eyebrow just as his fellow huntsman had and meeting his red-brown gaze evenly.

It irritated him further, this being in the wrong but wanting to be in the right. He knew he could probably bully his way through the confrontation but Cal had never had to play that part and did not want to begin that way now. Beyond that, if his bluff failed and he were attacked, he was at a disadvantage. He decided it was not worth the risk to fight over such a small bit of meat, and dropped his eyes and his arms with a sigh. Well.. It's yours.

He fidgeted slightly in place, now the one unsure what to say next. Should he turn and walk away, find another meal? Maybe he had not yet scared off all the game and could yet complete his hunt without sharing and without confrontation. Even if he did not, Callum was well fed and would not starve for his incompetence. Tomorrow was another day. But maybe...

While he did not voice his thoughts, he began to wonder if this other man could be enticed to drive some game his way, the easier for Callum to dispatch it and the sooner they could all go home. He would have to see.

He would admit to playing the victim at simpler times, but Ehren wasn't naturally a selfish person by any means. His suspicious expression slowly dropped as the stranger paused, then glanced down, speaking in a slightly disappointed manner. He wouldn't blame the other male, he too would act about the same. The Infernian inhaled loudly, considering as his eyes moved to the opossum, hand going up to scratch at the ruffled mess that one could barely consider 'hair' on his head. It was very probable the other needed it much more than he did. His home was so close to here, if he wanted meat he would have already been traveling back. Uhm... He began, letting his hand dropped to his side, gazing at the stranger; he shook his head a little. Nah, you can have it. My pack's not far, if I had wanted a snack.

Ehren offered a slightly awkward but well-meaning smile to the almost completely white wolf-like mix in front of him. What about you? Is your home far? Curiosity still ate at him despite the fact he could have left it there. Taking a step back from the prey so the other could easily come and claim it without them being too close to each other -- after all, the males were still quite wary of each other having just met. It was a natural occurrence when a situation like this hit especially. One's instincts would lead them to avoid eye contact, to make their steps light and careful instead of the friendly and sure movements that would come with conversing with a pack mate. Ehren wasn't too familiar with it, this kind of thing.

But it wasn't uncomfortable to the point where it bothered him. The one near him didn't seem hostile by any means, if his previous words were any sign. And he was certainly not looking for a fight, not over something as trivial as this. He'd much rather just give it to him and go about his life than get into a battle with him. If it had been a particularly fat moose that they were hovering over, then maybe, but that wasn't about to happen anytime soon between only two Luperci. It'd take an incredibly lucky shot to kill that kind of creature before they could get away or fight back.
