Everything That Rises

[Joining, ATTN Leader]

OOC: Hello hello! :) Time set in the early morning. Also whoops, I wrote y'all a novel. Sorry about that! | +872 Words

It had taken a full week for Svasra to prepare for this moment. A full week since she and Gehenna had arrived near the territory – a week since they had said their goodbyes, and she had set up camp to gather her bearings and prepare herself, her horse, her friend, and her offering. Honestly the darkly-mottled female had not needed this week. But a bout of uncharacteristic anxiety about the coming interaction had stalled her, and she busied herself during the time by caring for Rhaenyras, and the slave.

They had settled in a small cluster of tall pines, where Svasra had tied the massive black stallion and sent Rhae to gather wood for a fire. A week later it was covered with evidence of their presence there – from their lingering scent on the needle-covered floor to a small pile of bones scattered beneath a bush, and a still-smoking pile of cinders. On one side of the clearing was a cleared spot where the brindled hybrid and the pale golden-furred wolf had curled against one another, using each other to keep warm against the cold of the winter nights. On the other side was the trodden earth where the hybrid stallion had pranced nervously, and a few feet away the smaller area where the slave had curled alone, against a tree. His hands and feet remained tied during the night, just to be sure he didn't attempt to flee. His presence here was vital to the small group's purpose.

When Svasra had awaken this morning, she knew it was time. The nervousness which had previously plagued her had left during the night, and the sun had barely risen when her slender black hand had gently shaken her companion awake. The middle eastern fae's leafy-green gaze had met her savior's own pale golden one, and understanding came without words. The two were still communicating without spoken language – neither knew the other's idiom, though Svasra had been making a constant effort to ease the Masadal woman into the learning of English. As the sun rose Rhaenyras had kicked dirt over the fire, which had sunken lower during the night, and the curly-haired loner had carefully nudged the slave boy awake with the back of her hand. She had no desire to be harmful in any way to him, but was well aware of his rank and was careful to hold him to it.

Only a few minutes ago, Svasra had lifted the slender Arabian woman onto the stallion, who bucked his head a bit in his characteristic stubbornness that the dark-hued woman had come to love. In one svelte black hand was the horse's reins, for Rhaenyras was still frightened of riding the horse alone without his rider's guidance. In the other hand was the rope tied around the slave's hands, and she made sure he walked slightly ahead of her, where she could see him. The black-haired foreigner had muttered something softly, glancing sadly at the male who walked with them. She had made clear to Svasra that she disapproved of slavery, and Svasra had made it clear that she was not to free him. She sympathized with the other female's feelings, of course, and remembered the situation she had found her companion in only a few weeks ago. But he was essential, and Rhae seemed to understand that. The slender loner hoped that she understood what was about to happen, too.

And now, here they were. Svasra stood a good ten feet away from the clearly-marked border, hands tightly gripping the ropes. Her amber gaze was fixed on the shadows beyond the tall pines which surrounded them, and little dapples of sunlight reached her back and shoulders through the needles above. Laying beyond this border was a whole pack of strangers – unfamiliar people to whom she would have to prove herself. It would take her a long while to begin to trust them, too. But among these people would be a few familiar faces – the Bellatrix and Artemisia women, of course. She had hopes that the D'Angelo female would be the one to meet her. Then there was the dark Revlis man – Lokr. Theirs had been an unusual interaction, and his was not a face she would forget for a long time. Or his dark presence.

The slave shifted slightly, and Svasra pulled on the rope to still him. One of Rhaenyras' white-tipped hands reached down to rest comfortingly on the brindled fur of the loner's shoulder – she shrugged it off gently. She was not so weak that she required reassurance now. Heaving a deep breath, the wild female let out a soft howl, which increased in volume a few moments later. She lowered her head once more and ended, ears perked to pick up any sounds of oncoming approachers. The slave shifted once more, and once more the rope was tugged to calm him. Svasra's green gaze flicked up to the Masadal woman to find that she was facing forward intently, bent low over the horse. Her ears were back and the dark-hued female noticed that her hands were entwined tightly in the stallion's mane. Her gaze returned to the shadows, and they waited.

Forgive me for the crap posts while I feel Lux out.

Lux had busied himself with preparing the next meal for his lord when he was summoned to his feet. Silently but curiously he had drawn near his newest owner to evaluate the darkly colored woman who stood across from him. Both his lord and this unnamed woman regarded him with appraising eyes, and it was enough for Lux to infer that he was being passed between clawed fingers. He’d been told to clean up the space he was allowed to occupy in their small encampment, and then Lux found himself in the possession of this new woman. His naturally bright gaze regarded the man with an internal darkness, and he bid the man a silent, hostile goodbye. He was no longer his slave, but he was still a slave.

One chapter closed, and another one opened.

Few words had been offered by him, but he obeyed his new lady as any good slave should. Unlike his previous owners, she seemed skeptical of him and kept his limbs bound in the evening when they all settled to rest. Lux had grown accustom to the feel of the leather collar adorning his neck, and soon enough the ropes wrapped around his ankles and wrists became just another symbol of his status. He ignored it the best he could, and shifted until he found a position suitable for sleep. Many of the nights they spent there, waiting for who knows what, Lux kept his gaze turned up to the star lit canopy and wondered if his mother looked upon the same night sky.

It was clear that they were leaving today, and Lux rose from his rest eager to move. His wrists remained bound as they set off towards their destination, but he’d accepted it. Perhaps it would not be a permanent fixture once they reached their journey’s end – he could only hope, as he wasn’t much use bound as he was.

They came to a halt, and Lux received another jolt as his lady tugged on the binding rope, silently insisting for him to grow still. His clawed feet remained firmly planted where he stood, and his light gaze accessed the area to which they had traveled. He stood before the women, and thus he could not read their expressions – he knew better than to turn to look at them. Instead, ashen ears twitched at Svasra’s call and patiently waited for the response that might follow.

What lied ahead would be his new world, and Lux could only speculate what it would contain.

She came atop the silvery horse, young but tell-trained, and rode him with more alertness than she did her old one. Though she adored the massive black horse, she thought that was perhaps the wrong term for her affection. He was still useful to her, and pleasing. Already she had decided to gift him to another, for she had no use for two horses when the one she now rode was beyond average.

There was a woman waiting, and with her a man...whose hands were bound, and whose collar betrayed what he was. Salvia's eyes narrowed and flicked to the woman. She must have been very lucky, with her property so openly displayed like that.

“What do you want?” She asked, sharp and unfriendly. Her scent would betray her—she did not hide it within Salsola, and the borders had been freshly marked.

From the expanse of territory before them came the rhythmic beating of hooves against soft forest-soil. Svasra's torso tightened and her ears fell flat, barely having enough time to glance at Rhaenyras atop the stallion before the arrival of the rider. The black-haired Arabian was bent farther over the beast, though her ears were perked and her eyes fixed on the trees ahead. She'd heard the hoofbeats, too.

From the trees and shadows emerged a woman the darkly-brindled loner had never seen before, but she thought she could guess at first sight. The golden-hued rider carried an air of dominance and superiority – although it was an unfamiliar stance, Svasra immediately assumed a deep submissive posture under the powerful, dangerous green gaze. Her shoulders hunched in an attempt to make her look smaller, and her short white-tipped tail found its place between her legs, as well. The lean hybrid lowered her gaze and her chin, giving a little tug on the rope to signal to the slave boy that he should do the same, though she supposed it was natural for him.

“I've come to offer myself to your pack,” Svasra stated, voice clear and defensive to who she supposed was the leader figure. She said nothing more and simply waited for the woman's reaction. The stallion next to her gave a quiet, nervous whinny, and the mottled hybrid gave a gentle pull on the rope to calm him.

A golden goddess broke the horizon, and Lux allowed his brilliant blue gaze to watch her approach only until her form began to grow sharp in his vision. It was then that he immediately dropped his gaze, searching the dirtied snow at his feet for something to which he could affix his gaze while he silently processed the image of her arrival only by the sounds and scents that reached him. He did not have to see the dominant rider up close, for he could feel her presence all around him. They had come to her territory.

Another tug rippled through the rope that bound him, but Lux did not need the reminder that it was intended to serve. Both slated ears fell close to his skull, not completely pressed but enough to signal that he was further submissive than the Luperci that waited behind him. His tail which had remained slack during the trek had now found its place brushing the backs of his legs. Despite the labor that had attributed to Lux’s lean and well-muscled frame, his lineage was comprised of smaller breeds and thus he was not a large beast. Shoulders shrugged forward made him appear slightly smaller, but he stood at a similar height as the golden goddess if she were to dismount.

Sharp words cut through the brisk winter air, and Lux remained still as he awaited the response of his lady. Svasra’s own words held strength, but her words spoke of her submission to the other. Silently, he wondered where he would fit into this picture. A new pack perhaps meant new opportunities, but Lux assumed mostly it would mean new responsibilities to tend to.

Her arrival was one of many—these strangers who came by whispers and promises. Salvia had seen many faces come, and many more leave. Those who stayed were rewarded. Those who strengthened Salsola were rewarded.

That was why she was after women. They could always find men, but women who did not fear yet knew to obey...these were those she wanted. Clever things, strong things, ones who had survived.

Salvia thought this woman, with her handsome horse and dark pelt, was surely one of these.

Her face eased into a practiced smile, as if her tone was meant to be some sort of little joke, as if they were friends and she was already allowed such a privilege.

“How interesting,” she said, and leaned forward in her saddle. Tiger shifted a little below her, sniffing at the air. “And which of these things have you brought for us,” Salvia further went on, for such wealth was boasted...and surely, that meant it was expendable.

Svasra held very still while the dominant woman studied her. She was unused to such scrutiny, but it was a simple thing to keep a submissive posture. Once more her eyes flicked to the Arabian woman atop the stallion, to find her still leaned heavily over his back, fingers entwined in his mane.

The smile that followed was unexpected, and although her face became a little less serious, the darkly-brindled female couldn't bring herself to return it. It was too heavy of a situation and she was not in the habit of making pleasant expressions, anyway. In response to the golden-hued female's question, Svasra lifted the hand holding the slave's rope. “I've brought more working hands,” She told, golden gaze hovering over the boy. “He's young, and in good shape.”

“The stallion, however, I would like to keep in my possession,” She continued, tone a little apologetic. “If he's needed for pack use, I wouldn't object, of course. But he and I have gotten quite close in the past few weeks.” As if to illustrate her point, Svasra lifted a slender black hand and stroked the beast's flank for a moment.

There was nothing for the Grecian male to say, and so he waited in silence with his head bowed as the two women exchanged their words in order to shape the future. His lady spoke of him as an offering, and Lux was not at all surprised to hear these words find life in the chilly winter air. It did not matter that half his blood came from a noble line – Lux was a slave from birth, and it was clear that his status would not be changing anytime soon.

Despite its ferocity, Lux could not satisfy the curiosity that gnawed at him. He was curious about this golden woman, and the land that was so clearly hers. Everything was different here and he knew that would be true of the home his lady was trying to secure. Would Lux become property of this Thistle Queen? Only time would tell. Until then, his only responsibility was to stay silent while the two women spoke, unless either of them called upon him to execute some sort of task.

His world was obedience, even if something more brewed behind his slated exterior.

Salvia thought it very telling of a person, when they showed what it was they thought valuable.

She herself considered all sorts of things when it came to what she thought of worth. A horse was indeed something to consider—a horse that obeyed and that was bonded far more valuable indeed. Her smile deepened a little, the way it did when her thoughts turned devious.

Without further hesitation, Salvia dismounted. She landed lightly on her toes, nearly sprung forward, and let the reins of her own stallion trail behind her. On the ground, he had come to learn the command of her body quickly. In a few steps she closed the distance between herself and the man. With a critical eye the Boss examined him, like she might livestock.

Then, satisfied, her eyes turned to the woman.

“What is your name?”

When she had answered, she looked at the slave. Her slave.

“And what are you called?”
