Veyra, Alistair, Jazper

POSTED: Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:39 pm

300+ OOC — Set April 3rd.

As planned, Veyra made the trip to Casa di Cavalieri, both to visit him as well as to learn more about the pack. It only made sense, what with their mateship forming even an unofficial alliance, for both of them to be well learned about the other's family and traditions. The day she had arrived had been spent relaxing together after Veyra's trip, though he had made sure he informed Jazper and Alistair that she was within the boundaries (not that he thought they would protest).

Cal had been unable to take his eyes off Veyra; he could not think of a time he had seen her in Optime and actually standing. She wore armbands, and her bow and quiver were strapped to her back. They had romped and played like pups, and then he had fixed her up a place to sleep, using bed from one of the other, vacant rooms below crammed into his room, right next to his.

The next day, Veyra prodded him awake, jabbing her fingers into his belly gently but insistently. He complained, grinning in jest, but eventually got up and "fixed" his hair, then took Veyra by the hand and led her upstairs to the War Room, showing her around as they went, pointing out where the various doors went. Once in the large meeting room, he knocked on the office door; it was not so early that the Sole and Lune might still be in their private quarters asleep. While he had told Jazper who his mate-to-be was, and undoubtedly the leader had told the Lune, neither male had truly met her, and Callum wanted that to happen.

As they waited, Callum glanced at Veyra, judging her reaction to all she had seen and feeling so proud of the Gamma. What do you think so far?

Casa di Cavalieri. The name seemed strange and foreign to her. She had told Callum she would visit his pack a couple weeks after he left New Dawn to head home. Being betrothed while living so far apart was a challenge they had to deal with, as her white knight wished to become a high ranked member…or something like that. He had explained the process of joining the Brotherhood to her but rituals all seemed so strange and foreign to her feral mind that she found it hard to do much besides nod and encourage him in his dreams.

Callum had shown her around the territory and they had played happily before moving to the heart of the land, the Fort. She had never seen one in her life but it reminded her of a mixture between Vinatta’s more over grown and natural homes, and the few towns she had seen. Everything was brand new to the feral girl. At the fight of the fair sized herd or horses she nearly had a heart attack. She had seen but two or three in her entire life and here these knight’s were training them and feeding them out in the open, like friends. It was all very odd.

At nighttime she felt the loneliest, listening to Callum’s deep breaths as he slumbered was her only anchor to home. Here everyone slept separately, in rooms surrounded by walls, on top of strange wooden structures called beds. She at the very least had furs on the ground, though her soon to be mate insisted she sleep on a mattress, deeming it to be more comfortable, a fact she could argue but did not. She was here to experience the full Casa di Cavalieri culture, an opportunity she would find difficult to achieve with any other pack.

She had awoken early, use to the stirring of her pack mates and loved ones. The quiet of the room was haunting, though outside of the walls she could hear the animals and a few early risers. She decided quickly to awaken her prince, gently jabbing her pointer finger into his fur until he stirred with a smile and a grumble.

It did not take long for the two of them to groom their fur and prepare for the meeting, something she was very eager to get to. She hadn’t met anyone from Casa, with the exception of her betrothed, so to have a meeting with both leaders was an honor. As the walked to through the courthouse she looked around in awe of the grandeur, only moving forward with Callum tugged on her hand.

At last they arrived at the room she assumed contained the two leaders and she watched as Callum knocked, her grassy green eyes intensely focusing on the door that separated them. “It’s all very strange and formal.” She chuckled lightly in a soft whisper. She was so use to seeing everything everyone did around the communal den, here there was so much privacy and separation, yet those around them greeted each other like old friends. It was all so different.

His grandson had arrived with his betrothed in tow the day before, much to Jazper’s pleasure. The Sole had been in contact with Zalen for a couple of moons now, discussing the possibilities that might come out of the pair’s successful mateship. Both middle-aged wolves shared a strong value in family and the progression of their line. Although on the outside they appeared tough, the alpha’s both melted into a pile of mush at the sight of puppies. It was this very reason Jazper had earned the pup-sitter co-rank in Crimson Dreams and Casa di Cavalieri to start with.

He knew little about the daughter of the New Dawn Alpha except that she was a prideful girl, according to her father, but good sorts of wolf. So it was with excitement that he sat in the Guida office, the previously arranged meeting place, with Alistar. Both of the Guida worked quietly on their own things, though at this point Jazper has been reduced to scribbling extremely poor drawings of clouds, trees and rocks.

The knock finally came and Jazper leapt to his feet comically before gesturing to the Lune that he would get the door. Quickly he patted at his blue collared shirt and his ripped up and dirtied beige pants, making sure everything was in its place before opening the door.

With a large smile he beheld the couple. His strapping young grandson and the fair sized princess he had chosen to be his mate. “Callum, Veyra!” He welcomed with his slight Scottish accent, “Please, please come in.” Turning his body side ways he motioned for them to enter the office. “Veyra, this is my co-leader, and my adopted son, Alistair.”

I am the shield that guards the realms of men

Alistair kept to himself most days. It wasn’t the fact that he enjoyed being reclusive, heh, he’d had a childhood full of that. He just couldn’t remember a time he’d been so busy, and not by any desire of his own. He still kept his own schedule, the early morning jogs around the fort, his training with Wayne and Merlin, his afternoon and nightly patrols. With the added duties of Lune, there just wasn’t much time for leisure. It was the bane of Lola’s existence, by now, he imagined, his, too if anyone wanted his opinion. There was less and less time to spend with her, something that made them both more than a little cranky, for obvious reasons. They were still young, after all, and hadn’t been mated for even a year, yet. The humans would have categorized them as ‘newlyweds.’ It was more than a little frustrating. He was beginning to realize that he was just going to have to make time. Maybe a romantic horseback ride down whisper beach? Lola had her own horse, now, and when was the last time he’d taken Merlin out for a stroll? With any luck she’d be reminded of why she’d fallen for him in the first place, brooding sod that he’d become-- it would do them both good to be alone together.

He was seated at the table and, honestly, not as happy as he should be. Alistair did his best to smile when Jazper looked his way, determined to ‘soldier on’ through this meeting no matter how much he wanted to question it’s necessity. He toyed with an old coin as they waited, glancing around every once in a while to inspect the map Jazper was attempting to draw. It was childlike, Jazper’s drawing and had they been doing anything else Alistair might have teased his lack of skill, not that he could do any better. When the knock at the door arrived the knight practically leapt to his feet, but settled when Jazper indicated he would get it.

The hybrid tucked the coin into the pocket of his khaki pants, and smoothed his black shirt, a few of it’s buttons open at the top for good measure. He did his best to steel himself for what was to come, reminding himself to be polite, and that the young woman was the daughter of an Alpha and deserved respect. Soon enough, Jazper’s Scottish lilt sounded in welcome of their guests, and Alistair stood still, approaching only after he’d been introduced.

He smiled in greeting and hastily held out his hand to shake, awkward even by Luperci standards, but more so because of the way it was offered. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, princess.” He was at a loss for her title, and shifted as he uttered this one. Hopefully, it would suffice, if not he really wasn’t making the best first impression. “We’re looking forward to making this alliance official.” He didn’t really know what else to say, meeting foreign dignitaries really wasn’t his forté, arguably.

OOC stuff

While they waited for the Guida to open the door, the princess commented on just how formal everything was, and as he thought about it, she really was right. Operations around Casa did appear to be very formal, but Callum knew enough about his grandfather and the leader's demeanor that he felt comfortable responding, "It's mostly just for show, I think," with a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face. Not just a show for her, but for the members, especially the newest ones. While plenty of important activity probably did go on in the Guida office, the air of mystery around it was probably overly exaggerated. It made the leaders seem more leaderly to have a place to talk about the state of affairs.

Then the door opened, admitting the patriarch of the Knights. Jazper seemed to be as happy as a wolf could be, all smiles and jovial voice, and it made Callum smile all the wider to see his grandda so pleased. As Jazper held the door ajar, Callum let Veyra enter first, gesturing to her with a small bow to enter before him. Alistair stood to greet Veyra as Jazper introduced him, and Callum wrapped his arm proudly around his betrothed's waist, resting his hand lightly on her hip. The action was meant to be reassuring to Veyra but it certainly made the Knight feel better, too, to be linked with his beloved. He remained quiet for now, but would speak up if the chocolate princess wished him to. As a Gamma, though, he thought Veyra would have little issue talking to the Sole and Lune.

As he stood there, his eyes caught a glimpse of Jazper's drawing, and amusement colored his features. Perhaps what he had said to Veyra was not too far from the truth.

It was true that in her homelands there was a certain feral sense of formality, rules of submission and properly addressing one another with body language that needed to be abided by. In the land of the Cavaliers the formalities were more based in ceremony and pomp than the basic feral needs, and that was what made Veyra uncomfortable in her soon-to-be mate’s home. However, compared to many in New Dawn the young Gamma was more than tolerant of the more humanized canines.

The door opened and her jaw became lax at the sight of who could only be Callum’s grandfather. She had heard from her father of Jazper’s size but from her decent height of 6”10 she still had to stretch her neck in order to look up and view his face. Although his face was kind she found it difficult not to stare at his blue eye, clearly blind. Had he been born half blind? She didn’t recall Callum mentioning it.

Callum’s hand fell to her waist as they moved into the room, her hand moving to shake the Lune’s hand. It was an odd and very human ceremony but she was happy to oblige for the sake of relations. “The pleasure is all mine.” She assured with a confident smile, determined to prove herself to the leaders, and New Dawns future allies. “As New Dawn’s new Gamma, diplomat, It’s truly an honor to be solidifying our pack’s long friendship through Cal's and my mateship. My Father is looking forward to the alliance.” It made her feel proud of herself and deserving to have her love life tie together her pack with another. Her parents had her to promote their alliance so it seemed like the ancestors had always planned for her to be a link between her Father and others packs.

The Knight father was more than aware of Alistair’s growing grumpy nature. When the tawny male had arrived in Casa, Jazper recalled, he had been spirited and happy-go-lucky. Now his humor had shifted from light hearted to more sarcastic. He hoped that as the new Lune adjusted to the stressors of being a leader, and possibly became a father, he would learn to relax a little more. Although the job of leadership put a heavy weight on your shoulders it could be a good gig.

He watched as Alistair presented his hand to the girl, observing her with curious eyes as she responded with relative ease. He had never met Zalen’s offspring but looking at her now he came to the realization that this must be his daughter through X’yrin. How had he not realized sooner? It was stupid of him to simply assume that his friend had more than one daughter. Watching the mocha hued wolfess he saw familiarity of both of her parents in her. Her hairstyle called back to her mother, her eyes her father, and she spoke with Zalen’s warmth by X’y’s formality. The mark around her right eye clearly marked her as a member of the Damaichu bloodline.

It made him happy to see his grandson stare hardly budge from his future mate. Clearly his boy was over the moon for this wolfess. “The arrangements are almost complete.“ He added with a soft smile. “We just have to wait around for lover boy over here to get off his butt and do some work.” Lightly he punched his grandson’s shoulder, with a wink.

I am the shield that guards the realms of men

It was true his wit had changed a little from the time he’d joined Casa di Cavalieri. But the sarcasm had always been there, an undercurrent to phrases uttered amicably. Given time and tragedy it rose up like an invisible form of defense, a coat of armor unseen by the eye. The truth was, he’d been hurt- wounded physically and mentally, and those scars needed time to heal. It was a slow process, slower than it should have been, perhaps. As Jazper had said, he worried too much, and Alistair knew it to be true. But that didn’t change anything. He’d take one day at a time until the light filtered back into his life, the happiness he’d felt before Aedan stole it away from him with biting words and steel. Baby steps. It wouldn’t be long before he realized how much time he wasted wallowing in self-pity and then he’d curse himself for taking those around him for granted.

With grace, Veyra took his offered hand and Alistair gave it a light shake, smiling as it was his duty to smile and dipping his head just slightly in respectful greeting and very mild deference to a woman from the feral pack. Alistair watched the goings on quietly, noting the way Callum held onto his future mate like a prized possession. The smile that had been only light before spread, despite himself. He couldn’t help but be warmed by their obvious feelings for one another, and for a moment his thoughts drifted to Lola. He wondered how they’d looked together at the beginning and if it was similar to the pair before him, now.

The thought made him look elsewhere, a sudden, but mild flush warming his cheeks. He knew they had. Maybe even to a larger degree, knowing just how shameless his silver mate was. Oh, yes, she was a wild one, his Lola. And she wanted children. The thought made him momentarily nervous and he shifted for an entirely different reason before his hazel gaze returned to the present to refocus himself and shrug the happy yet anxious thoughts away.

"I know where he can start..." Alistair found himself speaking and his expression was more relaxed, if a bit mischievous. He looked at Callum critically, as if sizing him up for battle, Fenris, maybe he was. Part of the requirements for joining the Brotherhood was training, and if he trained with someone, well, Alistair could always spare his sword arm for a brother in need. He'd even enjoy it.

OOC here

The boy's jaw dropped when his grandda spoke of getting off his butt and working. What did Jazper think he'd been doing all this time? He had gained ranks by leaps and bounds and he was not yet satisfied with his progress, wanted to go further -- and yet it was not good enough for Jazper, and Alistair even seemed to agree with him! And then, with the playful punch from the coal leader and his wink (and luckily before he could actually formulate a response), he realized that both leaders were pulling his tail. He swallowed back the moment of indignation and composed his face into a faint smile, then calmly replied, "Yessir, Lune, what do I need to do next?"

He glanced from his grandfather's bright yellow eye to the hazel ones of Alistair and back again, only the rapid waving of his tail behind him evidence that he was not being so serious as his tone implied. The forward pricked ears and raised eyebrows only emphasized the interest that his reply to them had conveyed. While he really did want to know how to keep bettering himself for the pack and for Veyra, he had not so far been quite so formal in asking how to continue, and he thought that would be obvious.
