OOC: Plot thread with Olivia, and NPCs Dart & Behram! (+415)

Dom stared into the fire that marked the heart of the tribal territory. It was not the same as the friendly campfires the gypsyfolk danced about in his youth, but it drew him nonetheless. There was something otherworldly that saturated the air and made him feel like he was being watched at all times, no matter how frequently the paranoid wolfdog checked over his shoulder to ensure he was alone. It made his hackles prickle, but he would endure.

"Osiyo," he repeated under his breath the way he had heard it spoken, and the word was not as unknown as it had been upon his arrival. The syllabic language was different from the odds and ends he had picked up from the travelers in his youth. It was a harder learning curve, unlike French to Italian, or even Russian. He was good at foreign tongues, though. He had faith he would get the hang of this one if he put his mind to it, as he had absorbed others in time. Everything in the tribe just was so... different. With a faint growl, the tall sighthound jogged off, uncomfortable and restless.

He had never intended to join a pack, to pledge himself to strangers, but some cruel fate brought him here anyway and he did not think he could leave – not until he knew for certain. Besides, he really had nowhere else to go. Until the day Inferni discovered he was alive, he was living on borrowed time. He had driven his Sonnerie family to pieces and they no longer wanted him. Here, in this small and strange corner of the world, he had discovered a new AniWayan family: as long as he could be of use to them, he would try to protect them with what little spirit he had left in his scarred body.

The grim wolfdog reached the border markers of the pack and wheeled in a loose arc, beginning the slow circle of a patrol. As he settled into the routine of jogging, his mind wandered, and he wondered if they actually could be his – if he was a father. But Dom knew if they were Tarasovan, in time they too would familiarize themselves to his flaws and discard his love, the same as his siblings had. It was probably better, safer, for him to believe Ocèane had lied, again. He might never know, and as he pressed on doggedly, he realized he wasn't sure which answer he was hoping for.

((300+)) OOC

Olivia felt more at home in the lands, more than she had before. It felt special to walk among family and friends. She hadn't really had any friends before she had come to AniWaya. It had just been her and her sister mainly, banding together with their pseudo mother. It had been fine, them and the rest of Lac Sakami. But Olivia was been younger and not really willing to branch out to others when there was so much else to see. Now she was home and with those that she loved and cared for and could protect if she needed to.

It was a content feeling being among a pack. Olivia would not change it for any other thing, things were peaceful, happy, and with spring arriving and causing the world to bloom, everything was brighter. And in addition to the dark feathers she wore, she had interwoven little flowers into the braid that swung behind her. It had been the perfect day to head out on a walk, less sweeping than many of her other adventures. But she was content to meander about the territory. There had been a little disturbance though, some loners at the borders only a few days before. She had heard so from her mother, but hadn't been worried by the encounter.

Though, now that she was on her own and by the borders. She did feel a little more nervous about it. She was not an exceptionally big canine and was a poor fighter, a quick runner though. Olivia was deciding to head deeper into the territory when she saw the startlingly tall form of Domovoi. She was aware that he had joined the pack but had not gotten the chance of interacting with the strange, long faced wolf since their first meeting almost a month prior. He jogged quickly enough, but Olivia ran to catch him, not eager to be alone at the borders.

"Hey!" she huffed, coming up besides him, feeling like a puppy. She puffed a heavy breath, "Why are you hustling about, it's too pretty to be in a hurry." His long legs quite outpaced her own and at a slower pace, she reckoned they could be better company to one another.

OOC: :D wow this is the most awkward dom ever (+300)

Domovoi's mind wandered as his rhythm carried him onward. He didn't expect to see anyone else from AniWaya, let alone be followed. The sound of clumsy footsteps and huffing breath made him straighten in surprise, and falter.

"O… Olivia," he stated after a moment's hesitation. His heartbeat spiked in his chest. They had first met as strangers by the river, never realizing they shared the same surname. Had Ocèane told her daughters the truth about the scarred, broken man who had joined their tribe? Or was it even the whole truth? Ocèane lied to him before to protect herself, and this too could be a falsehood. Dom frowned for a moment, but slowed his pace so that the pretty youth with the flowers in her hair could catch up. Perhaps she was simply curious and still thought he was only a packmate, and that would be fine as well.

"I was just making sure the borders were safe," he explained gruffly. Paranoia was a compulsion – threats always lingered in the shadows, and he had to check, because what if he missed something? Dom swallowed awkwardly, suddenly feeling like he had nothing to say but that he needed to say something. She had her mother's eyes, and they stared right through him.

"There are dangerous loners out there. You shouldn't come out here by yourself," he admonished. Internally he kicked himself. Always, his default was controlling bastard; she was going to hate him in no time flat. Dom rubbed his face with both hands, suppressing a small groan of frustration. Yup, he wasn't cut out for this crap. He was about to demand her return to the village and leave him alone when the sounds of faint conversation reached his floppy ears.

"….just like I thought, Behram."

"I'd rather observe them longer before we…"

Domovoi went rigid. He threw his arm out in Olivia's path, blocking her from going further. Someone was nearby, and getting closer. Inwardly he spit a string of furious curses, realizing it was too late to send the girl away by herself – she could be intercepted. He would have to protect her if it came to that.

((300+)) OOC

Olivia was more than happy to join the male on his walk. He brought about a certain feeling of home despite him being so strange in face and behavior. His concern seemed a bit exaggerated though. She was plenty old to be wandering about by herself. And she had strong legs beneath her that were perfect for running if need be.

"You worry too much," she scoffed lightly, pumping shoulders with him. Though it was more like her shoulder on his lower arm given their height difference. She felt like a tiny doll before his great height, but he pulled it off elegantly and she felt comfortable with his protection around. He wouldn't let anything happen to her if they ran into trouble.

Just as she thought about it, his arm went out in front of her and she very nearly ran right into. A scowl wrote across her face but then she heard the voices as well. Her ears strained forward and she felt a bit of fright for a moment. The loners had not been described to her as particularly kind or forgiving folk and she lowered her head slightly, her lip curling very slightly. From what she heard, the loner's words were not those of peace.

"What should we do?" She whispered in a hushed tone, the hackles rising along her spine. It would be two on two if they approached but they had a pack on their side if things got hairy. With a bout of stunning determination, she shoved at his side. "We need to go over there, confront them or something." Together they were safe, she was confident in their ability and she doubted anyone would want to mess with Domovoi given his grand height. She certainly wouldn't want to.
