Removing Wrath

Aly

He'd spent his time hunting. There were pups in the fort now. Raoth had no idea what to do with them. They were tiny, and slept a lot, and squeaked even more. He was afraid that he'd damage them just by looking. Raoth felt entirely uncomfortable with the sudden influx of puppies, and spent a lot of his time out in the woods away from all that business. When he heard that the luna had given birth to pups, he felt obliged to do something about it. As uncomfortable as they made him feel, he had to do something. Even if he wasn't clear on what that something was.

So he came back into the fort after hunting. He'd taken a bow, and had wasted over a dozen arrows before he managed to kill a deer. It was wrapped over his frame now, sending him to stagger a little as he wandered over to the room that he could smell Aly and the pups in. He knocked on the door, making sure that none of the nervousness he felt was on his face. It wasn't like an army of puppies was gonna come barreling through that door and knock him down. Aly wouldn't let the pups be harmed by him. He just wanted to see what the fuss was about.

That's Our Kind of Love
Much of the morning was peaceful for the little family. Jazper went off to do his usual duties while Alyssum remained with the pups as they continued to sleep on. But, it was not quiet for long before, for after an hour or so after the sun had completely rose and shone light into the room, the children were up and about. They had recently begun to totter and walk, and they wasted no time to test out their new abilities. Though the two girls were the most rambunctious of the three, Alexander was becoming more active as well as he tumbled along with his sisters, the whole litter rolling and often falling as they hopped, jumped, and tried to run. Most of their attempts ended in vain, but their stubbornness were unwavering as they continued their play.

She had not expected anyone to visit her, the Luna knowing how busy her packs must have been with the preparations of winter, so when a knock sounded on the door, she was taken by some surprise. All three pups squealed at the sound, and Annabeth and Valerie rushed up to the door, beginning to scratch at it while Alexander hung back a little behind them, unsure about the situation though willing not to be left behind by his siblings. Alyssum gently called them back with a soft yip, and when they stumbled back to her, going back to their play though in the corner of the room where the mother laid, she answered the knocker, Come on in, though watch your step. While the pups were good at listening to her, she could not promise if the girls would heed her and run after whoever entered anyway in a fit of excitement to see who it was.

The voice that called out was friendly and quiet. He recognized it immediately, going back to the spar that they'd had. Neither had a very good opinion about the other, and it was mainly a mutual decision that they would do their best to avoid each other and not bother each other too much. At least that was how Raoth saw it. He pushed the door open, listening to the tiny yips and squeals of tiny pups at play. He dragged the kill in with him, thinking that he could use it as a barricade between him and whatever the pups would attempt to do.

He dropped the deer and gestured to it, looking in the luna's eyes before they settled on the pups playing in the corner. They looked far too lively for something that was so helpless. He had a good suspicion that there were plenty of creatures that would love to eat the pups, and they would still manage to run the coyote over. Crouching down he did his best to separate them out. Two girls and a boy. All of them busy and energetic and a motley cross of their parents. He wasn't sure if he'd want their attention or not.

She had not expected anyone in particular, but to see Raoth was a surprise within itself. To make matters even more confusing, he was carrying prey with him over his shoulders. Alyssum automatically assumed he must have been looking for Jazper, for ever since that day that they had "spar"—it seemed like an actual fight, what with the way they had behaved—they both had avoided each other. It was easier to do so that to confront each other and perhaps spark another argument with the danger of it being public to the pack, unlike before.

But, with her children nearby, the mother would never dream of causing tension, much less instigate a fight, with the man that seemed to have come for her. The deer he had removed from his shoulders was placed near her, and she looked down at it as it was geastured. She looked at it for a moment, and turned her gaze back to Raoth, who had moved his own stare to the children. She, too, looked over to the young, thier play continuing for a few moments longer until they must have felt that something was looking at them. One by one, they ceased their scrabbling and peered at the stranger, their mumbles and squeaks reflecting their curiosity as they appraised him from afar.

When he crouched down, however, they took that as an invitation to approach. With stumbling steps, they rushed over to the man, though their clumsy approach stopped them from surprising him as they were delayed by tripping over their own paws. Again, Alyssum yipped, and the three stopped about two feet away from the man, their wide eyes still upon him. That's Raoth, children, she explained, knowing he could not do so himself, Say hi. Almost in unison they greeted him, their high voices almost capable of the word. Thanks for the deer, she continued, though this time her tone was a little more confused, showing that she did not entirely understand the gift.

The pups slowly stopped their tumbling, voices quieting. Raoth's ears perked forwards, confused about their falling silence. There didn't seem to be a reason for it. They were just slowing down. One by one the pups turned, large eyes meeting Raoth's orange gaze. Confronted by them he didn't have a clue what was expected, desperately wishing that he hadn't made this choice. He didn't know what he was supposed to do. He didn't even know why they had started staring at him. The only thing running through his head was no sudden movements.

The pups began to move towards him. They were slow enough for Raoth to consider what he would do when they reached him. Put them on top of the deer was a good option. It was good food. They could eat it and play with it. That would be better than him. He didn't think they could get hurt with a dead animal. Thankfully the luna stopped him. He almost smiled with relief before he remembered himself. He couldn't show weakness. Their high pitched voices greeted him, Raoth hesitantly waving a hand at them. Thanked for the deer he shrugged, indicating to the pups and then her. He knew she'd need more food to be able to care for them.

Alyssum was not sure how Raoth would react to the puppies rushing him, but if anything, he was calm about the whole affair and did not seem greatly affected by it. It was not like she expected him to lung out at them, but as a wary mother, it was natural for her to at least be a little on edge, though in the end it was only subtle worry that hung over her mind. Even that was washing away as the moments went on. The two coyotes had their differences, but it had been a while since the heat of their confrontation, and it had cooled over the months. Perhaps all had been forgiven, at least on her side; she was never one to hold grudges.

The pups wagged their tails more eagerly as they were acknowledged even further, and they all tried to emulate the wave with their paws. But, they ended up losing balance, and soon they were another tumbling, rolling mess of mixed fur. Alyssum again looked to where the man pointed, and she grasped the loosest sense of what he was trying to convey. I see, she stated, hopefully that the assumption that he brought food to give the small family energy was correct enough. She was quiet for a moment, observing Raoth with a measured, though not unkindly gaze.

The bigger girl, the one with the pale fur, that's Annabeth, she begun, turning her eyes back to her children. The one that looks a lot like Jazper is Valerie, and the boy is Alexander. Still wee ankle biters, probably not going to be another moon before they are able to walk properly. She was not sure why she was talking about them, but the Luna was not quite sure what else to say. It was like a one-sided conversation, and the easiest thing for her to carry on about was the trio of children.

The pups reached a new pitch of excitement, Raoth's nervousness increasing further. What was he supposed to do now? He backed away slightly, watching as the pups lifted their paws and began waving around. The youth of the pups again came to his rescue, sending the pups tumbling over each other. He could not be more thankful for the clumsiness that young pups held. It was the only reason why he hadn't been sent at a full speed sprint out of the room. How could he deal with something that he couldn't hurt?

Alyssum's words were simple, but that was all that it could ever be when communicating with him. Only paper and pencil allowed him to communicate in more depth, and that was limited by his ability to spell. He looked back down to the pups as they were introduced. Annabeth was easiest to spot. He smiled as Valerie was introduced, a coughing sound his attempt at laughter. The sound just couldn't come out right. He glanced towards the door at the mention of them passing another month before being able to walk. He pointed to Aly and then the door, tilting his head quizzically. Would she stay in here the entire time with them?
