Tentatively dated mid-afternoon 9/28?

Breathing deeply of the crisp, early autumn air, Callum made his way around the edge of the borders, his pace slow and slower to allow for the toddling walk of his sons. He had determined that they, despite their very young age, could probably handle a short stroll, and had convinced Veyra of the same. It would tire them out, make them more pliable to the idea of a nap, and if the boys tuckered out before they reached the center of the pack, he could always carry them. So far all four of his progeny had taken to the idea of walking with Daddy, though Quin had to be reminded far more often than his brothers to keep to the same trail and Eros, in turn, often wanted to follow his dark-furred sibling.

Some fifteen minutes after setting out from where they had cut to the border from the den, Callum often had to stop completely as the boys stumbled over their own four feet. His goal fulfilled, Cal stopped the boys and shifted into his Optime form, then stooped to pick his children up. They were small enough that they fit easily into his large arms, light enough yet that their weight was no burden to their father, so he kept walking for some ways to lull them further into torpor. His large strides ate up the land with a steadiness that was somehow soothing to the young ones.

The Epsilon continued onward for yet another part of an hour, observing where he would need to double back and strengthen a marker if one of the other high-ranking wolves had not, though these were few and far between, and keeping a close eye for tracks in odd places where they ought not be, especially non-canine ones. Though he knew he should be headed back to the den before long, lest Veyra (or Lucia) come to find him, Callum resisted turning back just yet. The boys were safe enough with their father, and Callum did not anticipate meeting others while on this stroll.

That day Juliette had taken off without her horse and her usual adornments. Wearing nothing but her fur she sprinted through the woods enjoying the extra speed her four-legged form granted her. It had been long since the red maiden had experienced such adrenaline from simply running around like her less evolved ancestors used to do. Despite rarely using her feral form she still retained her natural grace, stepping lightly in delicate paws and swiftly dodging the obstacles in her way.

For about half an hour she ran without a direction, her breathes became pants and her lips twisted up in a wolfish smile. She might not be an enthusiast of the old ways but she truly found it enjoyable to exercise herself in her lighting fast lupus form. A soft chuckle left her as she slowed down into a steady trot. Surrounded by the peaceful silence of the forest she allowed her mind to wander back to her home and the delightful pleasures from her life there. She had to admit she missed the comforts from the mansion she had called home, the delicate dresses, the gourmet foods and exotic drinks. An appealing life among distinguished canines easy for those who possessed the gift of speech, and a certain trap for those not keen enough to stay above the rest.

The red-hued maiden came to a very sudden halt when the scent of someone’s property suddenly assaulted her nose. She gave a few steps back lowering her nose to the ground to confirm her almost accidental trespass. She had run with the wind, the scents from the landmarks carried away from her as she distracted by the burst of adrenaline ventured a few meters into owned lands. With a curse in her maw she backed away slowly, doing her best to step lightly not to spread her scent all over the place, she didn’t want to get the attention of an entire pack just because of such a minuscule mistake.

Ugh, I am so sorry. I have had this written on post-it notes for like a week, and just never had opportunity to sit and write it.

Callum had not intended to perform job duties while out with his sons; while they grew bigger every day, it was too dangerous to have them along if he might have to engage a trespasser who refused to leave, who wanted to cause trouble. Each pup's life was in danger, and if even one of them got captured, his life would be forfeit because he would do anything to ensure his pups' safety, including sacrificing himself.

Still, when he came across a scent with no noticeable pack affiliation that intruded several lengths into the pack's claim, he was duty-bound to investigate. But not without precaution. Before he followed the scent he knelt and made a nest of leaf litter and tucked the sleeping boys into the hollow, then covered them. Their tones blended in with the various hues of the fallen leaves and debris to the point that even Callum would have had some issue seeing it if he did not already know the location. He bent some sticks to ensure he did not actually mislay the pups, scuffed the leaves around the nest to further point him back to it, and then turned to jog along the trail. Every few yards he would drop momentarily to all fours for a handful of steps to sniff at the ground, till he had sight of, presumably, the the one who had come across the border.

It was a lady, in her Lupus form, clad in tans and reds. She had made it back over the territory lines, but Callum barked to catch her attention, in the hopes of halting her. Since she was leaving, there was a chance it had been unintentional, but there was also the possibility that the woman needed help, or even wanted information on joining New Dawn. He hoped she would come back to talk to him, but decided to move no further from the border and his boys. If the loner proved friendly, he would collect his brood rather than leave them vulnerable in the woods.
