She was often drawn to her old territory, the Anathema she grew up in for the most part, and the Anathema that she wasn’t ready to leave yet. Today, she left her mother’s horse back in New Anathema. She absent-mindedly made a beeline straight for her old house and checked it up and down for signs of ravage. Even though the house was in bad condition already, it hadn’t seemed to be broken into and ransacked yet. The door had been open, left that way because there was no reason to lock it anymore. And even as Lithia opened it, hearing that familiar groan from the old hinges, she still felt a little protective over the place. It had been her first home, and they were forced to just leave it as such. She wanted to come back and live in it. Despite its decrepit state and big hole in the ceiling in one of the rooms, it was a lot warmer than the castle. Even though they were set up nicely in their own tower, Lithia wanted her Thackary Village house back.

She had poked around in her old home for quite a while, but eventually wound up leaving and leaving old Anathema entirely. She headed farther north, letting her curiosity get the best of her. She had heard of packs up this way, but as of yet, had never met anyone from any of them. She had heard her mother speak of a pack that was situated across the waters that hated them, and even as she passed through Drifter Bay, she eyed the tiny slice of land in the distance. She wondered if that was the one she meant, and if so, why did they hate Anathema so much?

Eventually, she came upon a stream in which she bent down to put water on her face and otherwise drink some from her hands. Keeping her ears alert, she had her back turned to the direction that she’d turn and run to in order to get home. However, she didn’t plan on running home today. Lithia cupped her hands, gathering some of the frozen water, and lapped at it while it dripped from the spaces between her fingers.

808 → Quicksilver/Francis and snake necklace but it gold instead of silver

Ever since she had taken Quicksilver out for the very first time the boy begged to go with her each time she had a thought to cross over the borders. It felt like anytime she stepped out of the house to go somewhere Quicksilver was right at her heels. It often made her rethink if she should have ever taken him out in the first place. Still he had to experience the outside world at one point or another and it was best that she go ahead and get him used to it now. She was using it as a learning experience, like she did with most things, she was teaching her children the ways of Salsola early on. She was showing her children the way to behave outside of the Thistle Kingdom.

So when she had decided to go out this time she dressed for the occasion in the single sundress that she owned and grabbed the sling and tucked the pup inside it before he could even ask to go. She had already asked Tarat to get Horse ready for her so that was one less thing that she had to worry about. She told Loki that she was heading out and Quicksilver would be with her. It would give him more time to spend with Hel as their daughter was turning out to take after her.

Their home still wasn't complete but she didn't expect that to take place until it warmed up. It didn't mean that she couldn't do some research. She already had a number of books about home improvement yet still she felt the need for more. She wanted to be able to weigh all of her options. If there would be a better way to do things then she would make certain that she had the knowledge. So her purpose for going out was to collect more knowledge. And to do so she was carrying a large knapsack with her in order to be able to store all of the books she collected in it.

Arte left Salsola early on in the morning in order to explore Amherst while it would be quiet, and Quicksilver would hopefully be asleep for a good portion of it, and she could travel in peace. She spent all morning trolling the little town in order to collect a number of books, all focused on some aspect of home repair, and one other object that didn't fit in with her collection. It had actually been her son that had found it and he insisted on wearing it.

It was early evening when Arte made her way back to Salsola. As she drew near she walked next to Horse, gently guiding the mare. Quicksilver was out of his sling and racing on ahead of her. The pup was being careful not to trip on the golden snake necklace that he had demanded on wearing since he was the one that had found it. He didn't intend to keep it for himself, as it was much too big for him, but to give it to his father instead.

"Francis." Arte ended up calling to attract her son's attention. It was a coded warning to carry on straight rather than divert to Salsola. Quicksilver knew to heed the silent command even if he didn't understand the cause for it at first. But soon enough he spotted someone drinking from the river that continued on into Salsola territory. The pup grinned and wagged his tail happily as he ran up towards the woman with the necklace dragging between his legs. "Hi! Whachu doin?" Quicksilver asked and tilted his head inquisitively to the side.

"Francis, leave this nice woman alone and don't bother her." Arte said as she caught up to her son. She bent down to pick up the pup and cradle him in her arms. "Sorry about him. He hasn't seen to have ever met a stranger in his life." The line was added on with a laugh. "I am Ophelia Lockehart and this is my son Francis." Arte introduced them both by the names that they used outside of Salsola. Not only did their names differ but their scents as well. Arte hand made certain that they smelled of earth and pine as if their home belonged deep in the woods rather than along a coastline.

The cool water hit her stomach like a shock, but it was a refreshing shock. She liked the feeling so much that she kept on drinking, but of course once it happened, she didn’t feel it anymore. Squeezing water from her face, Lithia inhaled and found that she was not alone. The footsteps that she heard moments before was not her mind playing tricks on her or a lost prey animal or predator – it was another canine. Gazing up the river, Lithia wondered where Salsola stopped and started. Was she near or far? Where was New Dawn? How about Inferni? If she wasn’t mistaken, she might have passed Inferni already…

A small voice surprised her and she looked down to find a small, gray-colored puppy peering up at her. She eyed the shiny snake necklace that hung between his front legs, dragging on the ground and collecting dirt. She was about to answer the pup when his mother came and scooped him up into her arms. Apparently, he wasn’t alone. Looking upon his mother, Lithia wondered if she would know anything about the surrounding packs... since she smelled like trees.

”It’s okay,” she said quietly, smiling, and rising from her place beside the bank. ”Nice to meet you both," she briefly met eyes with the puppy as well, "I’m Lithia Napier. He is very handsome.” Lithia’s pink eyes swept over the gray-bodied boy in the woman’s arms. He was pretty handsome indeed, and he would make good-looking pups of his own someday, but far into the future.

Figuring she could just test the waters and go out on a limb. ”Do you know anything about the pack up there?” she asked, pointing up river towards Salsola. She definitely knew the name and knew in which general direction it was, but didn’t know exactly where it was. ”I was tasked with bringing some gifts to them, but I’m not sure if I even know where the pack is located,” she lied, trying to find the right words. She wondered if this woman even knew what she was talking about.

554 → Just make up stuff? If you want to talk over what is actually shared then we can but I tend to just wing it as I don't always remember everything I mean to do since I just go with whatever first comes to mind instead of thinking it over

A genuine smile was offered when her son was complimented. Like any mother Arte was proud of her children. But that didn't mean that she took it easy on them. She kept them strictly in line and treated them as mini adults. Of course Loki tended to ruin her training with his games and light heartedness but there was nothing she could say on it as he was doing his part as a father an involving himself. Arte wished that he would involve himself in a different way and fall more in line with how she approached things. But that could never be so as they resided on the farthest ends of the spectrum from each other.

"Thank you. He takes after his father." Arte had learned that lies sat better when there was a mix of truth that was added in with them. It was the truth that Quicksilver took after his father more than anything else. He almost looked like a mini Loki and certainly acted like one. She had no doubt that he would be a charmer just like his father was. At times he seemed to be entirely Loki and took nothing at all from her.

"What pack?" Arte asked, sounding genuinely confused and even looked it with the furrowing of her brow. She glanced in the direction that the other pointed to. "There is a pack there?" She asked and scratched at her head. "It seems strange that you would be sent to give gifts and not told where to take the gifts." The large woman focused her attention back on the other woman again. "Are you sure that someone isn't pulling a prank on you and sending you out after nothing at all?" Arte knew that if the other had truly been sent with gifts then she would know exactly where to find Salsola and would have an escort waiting on her to pick up said gifts.

"Are you certain that it isn't for that one over there?" She pointed in the way of New Dawn instead. "What sort of gifts are they? I hear that they stay on four legs and don't like pretty things. I don't think gifts would do them much good." She frowned as she thought about it even more. "What about the one way over there?" She pointed the direction in which Anathema used to reside. "Maybe it is that one there if you have to find one by the water. I think they might like gifts better than the other one."

She acted as if she hadn't known that Anathema had moved. But then again that was all that she knew. She hadn't heard tales of where they had went or why they were gone. For all she knew they could simply no longer be in existence at all. this was information that she would end up finding out when she had the time to do so. With young children it was hard to pick up and go as she had been able to do before. She knew that by the time she got to explore where Anathema had been that all traces of information would be gone. But still she had to try.

It was her first run towards something that had anything to do with trading any kind of information. She was allowed to suck at it just this once right? Lithia quickly tried to formulate the best lies in her head as Ophelia spoke to her. She wasn’t sure who she was, and there was no way to tell from her standpoint. From what Lithia could tell by scent, Ophelia wasn’t from any of the neighboring packs in the area – but that wasn’t to say that Ophelia wasn’t knowledgeable in the information that she was seeking. ”No, not New Dawn… or over there. I’m looking for Salsola,” she stated plainly, realizing pointing in the direction of it wasn’t helping because the woman was getting it confused with New Dawn. She ignored the question about what types of gifts they were, for the sake of the woman asking again if it were so important to her.

”My Angelo sent me on this task, and my mother showed me where they were located once, since we are said to be on good terms, but since it’s my first time going there on my own, I think I’m a little lost,” Lithia lied smoothly. Not all of it was lies, of course – if she were on an ambassador mission, Kentaro would have sent her to bring gifts to their “friends”, however, Lithia didn’t need to know exactly where Salsola was because she hadn’t planned to go there at all. ”No, Salsola’s the pack that keeps slaves, led by Salvia Eternity. Ringing any bells? Did you say that you lived around here?” she asked innocently, acting like she was confused. She leaned in and lowered her voice, ”I’ve heard through the grapevine that they like to capture loners and force them into slavery. You and your son better be careful.” Truthfully, she did not care about the woman and her son, but letting the lies flow from her mouth felt good – almost too good.

510 → OOC here

"What is wrong with over there?" She asked as she took note of the infliction of the word in the other's voice. It made Arte curious if this female knew something about what had happened to Anathema. She refused to use the name of the pack or even acknowledge that it no longer existed in that spot. Sometimes more was given away when it was not being spoken about at all. Or perhaps Arte was just being way too paranoid and the female knew nothing at all about what was over that way.

"What is an Angelo?" She asked curious about the term even if she already knew what it meant. Still, it wasn't a word that everyone heard every day. "You have gift for me? We on good terms." The child asked as he looked expectantly up at the dark pelted female. The boy put on his best charming smile and wagged his tail behind him as he waited to be given a present as well.

"Francis, she said that the gift was for a pack, not for us." Arte gently reminded her pup. She had no doubt that Quicksilver was actually eager for a present and wasn't faking his question at all. "I'm sorry. He is so used to getting things from his father all of the time that he has gotten a bit spoiled." Which was another bit of truth. Loki was always making the pups new little toys to play with.

When her sister's name was given along with the pack Arte looked to think hard on it before finally shaking her head. She sighed and looked sad as she responded. "Sorry, I haven't ever met a Salvia. I know a Veri, does that help?" She named off the female that invited her to stay with her because she knew she would get a good review from the woman.

"We live that way." Arte pointed towards the mountains. It was a close enough distance that it would seem to make sense for her to go after having come from the nearby city. It also kept her near the area but not too close to it. "Where do you live?" She asked the other woman, fishing for information of her own. "Do you stay around here as well?" She gave a glance around as if she might be able to figure it out just by looking at the scenery before focusing on the other woman again.

Arte looked shock at the news and drew the pup closer to herself. "No one really does that do they?" She asked at the same time that Quicksilver spoke up with a whine of protest of his own. "I don't want to be a slave!" Arte stroked the child's back in order to attempt to calm and reassure him. "Where did you say they were? I don't want to get close to them if they do that."

”Alpha, sorry,” she quickly corrected with the generic term for what Kentaro truly was, remembering that not everyone used Anathema’s rank lingo. Lithia’s eyes lowered to the pup as he seemed to recognize gifts, Salsola. A pleased smile eased upon her lips. The woman blamed the pup’s spoiledness on his father, but she could not conceal the fact that the pup responded to Salsola and Anathema’s kinship – he identified with one of those packs, and he certainly wasn’t from Anathema. There was only one option left.

Lithia watched the woman for signs of misconception. It was strange how little the woman knew of the area, yet she lived on the mountain and apparently had a child recently. Knowing female instinct, Lithia would have learned as much as possible about the packs in the area before bringing a child amongst all of it. Plus, on the mountain, even though they were higher up, they were pretty much surrounded by all these packs that Ophelia seemingly knew nothing about. The woman pointed towards old Anathema, seemingly unaware of a presence that once occupied the lands there as well. ”Maybe if you could tell me more about Salsola, then I’d be more inclined to fill you in about the pack over there,” she said, gesturing to the plot of lands where they used to reside. She wasn’t going home empty-handed this time.

She was less eager to get into other subjects that diverted away from her mission. She didn’t want to discuss where she lived when the female obviously didn’t live anywhere important – or at least hadn’t revealed as such. ”I doubt it,” she answered, unamused. She wasn’t looking for a Veri, but maybe it would bring her closer to what she required. ”Who’s Veri?”

The woman, Ophelia, continued with small talk, questioning Lithia’s residence as well and where Salsola was located so that she could stay away. Lithia thought that she could see through her veil, though. There were hints that added up, and the Napier woman had come to find that she was very perceptive. She felt that she knew what was going on – but even pulling a knife on the woman and her child would not force them to speak information that was the honest truth. Besides, that way would only bring them another enemy and in the same fashion as her mother had done with Midnight Shores. She didn’t want to follow in those footsteps – she wanted to be more careful, cleaner with her actions. If she were to do something similar, she wouldn’t be caught and traced back to Anathema. Something told her in her gut that this woman at least had a hunch of where she had come from, given that Salsola only had a few friends.

Despite not wanting to, Lithia continued with the conversation regardless. ”Northwest,” she said, referring to Anathema’s old territory, but not pointing to it. She wanted to keep it going to see where it would end up. It was possible that it could end up in her favor after all, even if it wasn’t looking that way now.

[Form: Optime | Date: --] Do you think Lithia's perceptiveness of Arte is too much? I was trying not to like power-play, but also have her begin to be suspicious... so idk. If you want me to change any of it - let me know! :)
