non-mandatory Ostara Ritual

POSTED: Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:44 am

This is a Spring Rebirth Ritual for Ostara (or the Spring Equinox)! Please see this summary to see how the ritual is going to play out! I want to say no posting order, but if your character is a participant of the ritual, we need you to reply soon! Direct ritual participants are able to skip over people and reply right away (we want this to go as quick as possible)!

(500+) NPCs: Malefica & Mortifera

She had spent the morning with the witches as they prepared their altars for their personal spring rituals. She had watched them prepare with specifically-colored candles, herbs, flowers, and rabbit sigils their own altars, and then prepare the one for Anathema, which they’d prepare later that day. She sat back, watching them do their offerings, their askings, in silence; and once they were done, she helped them collect the needed materials for Anathema’s ritual. At the rate Lithia had been going, visiting them this much, she should have become one of their apprentices – but that wasn’t what she wanted. Her idea of magick was not done with oils, herbs and incantations – it was done with tarot cards and stones.

When the Ved’maova sisters had readied Anathema’s needed altar materials, they headed down to the castle courtyard, bringing a small table with them that the Napier watched Mortifera carry. She grumbled angrily about why the young girl hadn’t helped her carry it, but Lithia acted as if she had never heard anything come from her mouth. The Borzoi woman placed the table heavily on the ground, a little ways away from the garden in which would be prepared to plant in warmer months. For now, it was a barren plot of dark dirt, but after asking for Ostara’s blessing, hopefully there will be plants that will grow there. Malefica and Mortifera worked diligently to get the altar set up, laying a purple cloth over the table’s surface, and setting a white, green, and pink colored candle in the middle, with a wooden talisman of a carved rabbit to the right, a few flowers from their stashed potted plants at the top of the altar, a small dish of milk and another of oats, and set to the side, bowls of both dirt and water and a white cloth big enough to cover most of a full-grown Luperci. Malefica lit one of the candles, a white one.

Lithia was sent to sit some distance away from the altar. "Why?" she growled, questioning it at first, but when she wasn't answered, she noticed that Mortifera was carving a large pentagram circle into the grass before her. The circle created was big enough for a Luperci to be able to stand in the center of it. Lithia sat, watching the witches prepare for the ritual, but was queued to howl for the others to join. Setting her pink eyes on Mortifera’s backside for a moment, she threw her head back and called to all who could hear her. The witches were just about finishing up when a few started appearing.

Lithia hadn’t turned her head to see who had come, but she heard footsteps behind her in the grass. By this time, Malefica had stood at the altar and Mortifera beside her, holding the white cloth. ”Welcome all, welcome to our Spring Rebirth Ritual! Today is the first day of spring, and what better way to celebrate our springtime goddesses than with rebirth to leave all the negative energy behind us and start anew!” Malefica called out to the small crowd that was gathering. ”We have our first participant, but we don’t know who will be our second. Who wishes to be reborn again?” While good things weren’t exactly their expertise, Malefica and Mortifera could be counted on to lead Wiccan rituals for Anathema whenever there wasn’t someone else to lead them. Lithia wasn’t sure whether they looked into their old, crusty books of shadows or reeled into the depths of their minds to remember how to do “gray” rituals, or maybe, despite the presence of black magick in their brains and blood, it was in their nature. She wondered what kinds of dark rituals the two sisters performed on a regular basis.

Tzila was outside when a howl, her sister' howl, called out in the distance for Ostara. Yellow eyes looked down at her sketch of a map in her lap. She had been trying to get better at map-making, so next time she went to make sense of the hidden passages in the castle, they would be more accurate than the one she had so far, which was an absolute mess.

As she put away the charcoal and papers in her bag, she considered the ritual. The gray female had pretty much established in her mind that major rituals, with all those incantations and theatricals just weren't her thin. And yet... She reasoned that it was because the first time she experienced a ritual by the Russian sisters, it was a black magick ritual. Maybe going to one that wasn't about curses and nasty emotions could help clarify if it was the intentions of the spell, and not the way it was performed, that didn't appeal to her.

And yet, she couldn't help but feel a bit hesitant when she left her things back in the tower and went toward Lithia's call, where they had set up the altar and were ready to begin. Besides Lithia and the witches, there weren't many present yet, so she was early. Tzila stepped up and took a spot close to her sister, but not that close. "Hello, sis." She greeted mildly, not wanting to disrupt Malefica's welcoming speech. Once it was done, she waited a couple of seconds for anyone else to take the first step, before stepping up and raising her hand. "I do."

Her preparations for her own ritual/groundbreaking had kept her occupied. The healer had been informed of the Rebirth Ritual when she had talked with them about her own event. So it was that she had been waiting for the call to come. She wasn't certain if she wanted to participate, but she did at least want to attend and watch.

When the call did come, she felt her shoulders jolt upward and then back down in surprise. Of course she had been anticipating it, so that was part of what had made her so wired. So ready. She closed her book, returned it to her bag and headed toward the ritual location. Her heart beat had accelerated for a moment, but quickly resumed its regular pace. This was not her ritual to lead, for which she was grateful. She could see how it went before she had her own.

There were only a few assembled when she arrived, so she gravitated toward the back. They asked for a second volunteer and she didn't jump on that. Or even to be the third. For now, she just wanted to observe.

(700+) words here.

A few had gathered before and during Malefica’s welcoming speech. She stood over her altar, and upon it, there were symbols of rabbits, eggs, and flowers all over it by means of egg-shaped objects, rabbits carved from wood, and anything else that would have been suitable for welcoming springtime. Malefica’s voice droned out as Tzila settled in the grass next to her. ”Hey,” she replied coolly, looking over her shoulder as her sister settled down. Then she returned her gaze to Malefica when she began asking for a secondary participant. Tzila’s voice rang out over her shoulder again, and Malefica nodded. ”Now that that’s settled, we will begin,” Malefica spoke over her altar, shifting her green eyes to Lithia as she commenced the ceremony. Lithia rose from her spot and received the large sheet from Mortifera. She moved over to the circle drawn in the grass with poured dirt, and before stepping inside the pentagram circle, Lithia covered herself completely with the sheet as much so that only her speckled gray feet and ankles were visible, since the sheet wasn’t long enough. It was then that she stepped into the circle and knelt on the ground in the center of the star.

”Hello Lithia,” spoke the rough voice of Malefica. With a small piece of parchment in her hand, she began to recite the rite, ”Today is the time of the spring equinox. Ostara is a time of equal parts light and dark. Spring has arrived, and it is a time of rebirth. The planting season will soon begin, and life will form once more within the Earth. As the Earth welcomes new life and new beginnings, so can we be reborn in the light and love of the gods. Do you, Lithia, wish to experience the rebirth of spring and step out of the darkness into the light?” Malefica finished, pausing and waiting for the answer.

”Yes,” Lithia affirmed simply, looking down at the ground because there was nothing else to look at. Despite the crisp air outside, it was getting pretty stuffy under the sheet.

Malefica nodded once and moving back towards her altar, she traded the paper for the bowl of dirt. She stuck the paper beneath one of the unlit candles so that the wind didn’t take it away. Taking some dirt in her fingertips, she sprinkled it over and around Lithia and the sheet. ”With the blessings of the earth and the life within the soil, you are reborn in the eyes of the gods.” Then putting down the bowl of dirt, Malefica traded it for one of the lit candles. Carefully she passed it over Lithia’s covered head. ”With the blessings of air, may knowledge be brought to you upon the winds, and may the fire of the spring sun bring growth and harmony into your life.” Once more, Malefica placed the candle back onto the altar and took the dish of water, and after carefully dipping her fingers into it, she sprinkled the water around and upon Lithia. Now she had bits of wet dirt stuck to the sheet. ”With the blessings of water, may the chill and darkness of winter by swept away by the warm spring rains…” Malefica finished, stepping back to put the bowl water dish down on the altar again. ”Rise! Step forth out of the darkness, and climb into the light. Awaken once more in the arms of the gods!” Malefica spoke loudly with her arms in the air.

Under the sheet, Lithia knew this was her cue. Finding the edge of the sheet, she pulled it back off and over her head, letting it fall on the ground behind her. Then she stood up in the middle of the circle, and Mortifera took the sheet from the ground behind her and passed it off to Tzila to prepare herself with while Lithia was finishing up. ”You have stepped into the light. The gods welcome you,” Malefica spoke, lowering her arms, and watched as Lithia exited the circle to return to her seat in the grass. Next up was her sister, Tzila. By this time, Mortifera had offered her the sheet and showed her where to stand by the circle until she put the sheet on.

(301) ooc text here.

Toshiro had been learning from the witches. He was taking in the good with the bad. He was especially being prepared for the good since it was known the sisters didn't really care for the Wiccan ritual performances even if they could be counted on to do them. Actually it was the role Toshiro wished to take over for himself. He wanted the control rather than to just continue to drift along like a leaf on the breeze. He wanted to be able to steer his own course and so he was learning from the witches how to become the master of his own fate.

The male had set up his own private altar in his room. It was a start for him as he was still learning the ways. He found it easier to learn by putting it to practice. He found it easier to learn things if he was performing it himself. With his own altar done he headed out to join in the actual ritual. He was silent as he made his approach. There was no need for him to say anything for the moment. This was the witches's time and he was here as a participant and not an apprentice.

The solitary male moved to stand in line behind Tzila. He had already been given a rundown of the basics by the witch sisters during his training and so he already knew what was meant to happen. He also knew that he had to use this time to release all negativity from his life and start over again. That meant making amends with his brother. He had to release the lingering feelings of hurt and betrayal to go and start all over again. One couldn't have a renewal, a rebirth, if they still clung to the past.

Just a quick peep. They can still be power played though :)

The sisters had agreed beforehand that Malefica would have the leading role during the ceremony. Lithia was the first one to step forward, and she received her into the circle as it had to be done. The sheet was laid on the dark-furred female, and the respective blessings were performed. Mortifera observed every step with delight. They were experts on the dark arts, and those were the spells and rituals that felt better for them, that made them feel on their right niche. However, magic undoubtedly ran through their veins and stained their spirits. Whether it was black, white or in-between, magic came to them whenever they called upon it.

This ritual was no different, and whether the other anathemas felt it or not, they understood. As long as they knew what would be the result of the ritual, how it affected their fellow packmates and the benefits to their souls, they did not feel any major conflict. They would see for them, as long as they felt them worth of their protection. That's why they were still there.

Tzila watched with a critical eye as her sister took part in the ritual. The blanket and words and symbolic elements weren't like the other times she had seen the witch sisters perform. The energy was different, not aggressive and malevolent, but peaceful and simple like the passing of the seasons. It wasn't exactly beneficial either, not actual white magick as she had read about. It was the renewal of the heart just as the world around her was renewed with the spring. It was a nice change in the Seere's opinion, even if she still wasn't quite feeling it.

When she was called forth after her sister, she placed the blanket over her head as well and minded her step when entering the circle, and kneeling. Malefica repeated the words she had spoken to Lithia, already beginning to sound familiar. The grayish female wondered if they would mean anything anymore to the witch was done. "Yes." She replied, then closed her eyes so she could better focus on her own feelings. How was this ritual affecting her, if at all, had been kind of the point of her being here in the first place.

As the Tuyul performed the rite, Tzila didn't feel quite as moved. To some extent she was, but nothing like a spiritual awakening happened. By the time she was almost pinpointing how she felt, it was over, and she had pulled down the blanket and her legs carried her up and away from the star. She sat a distance away from the rest of the congregation of Anathemans, contemplating. Something was amiss for her. The rituals didn't do much for her, but it had been better than the ones involving black magick. That clearly wasn't for the hybrid's tastes. And even though it wasn't much, she knew that this was her chance to truly find her beliefs. The Napier woman knew that she had emerged from this with another purpose, that it was not the final but her first step into the light. She almost chuckled at how dramatic her thoughts sounded.

WORDS FOR

Wicca, it was still such an in-the-shadows part of Anathema for her. She had never really sought out the sisters except for her recent garden breaking, in which it had been suggested she could combine some magic with what she was doing. Though she had once been fascinated as a young girl by the concept of magic, spirits and gods... she had lost that in the earthen work she did, in the pleasure of the physical world. The world of beyond didn't appeal to her as much anymore. Nor did the magic that could both harm and help.

She paid attention as Axelle's daughter was reborn through the Ostara ritual, feeling her skin crawl at the words that they said. How had the girl been in darkness? How now could she be brought to light? The unbeliever merely watched, a willing observer but not one to seek out participation. What little she did believe told her that she shouldn't mess with things like this. That if there were gods, they cared little if you wore a sheet and had dirt thrown around you when springtime came.

The Furcas wondered who would be third to be "reborn" before them all.

(000) Small little post for those of you who are waiting on me >.> You guys can keep posting here if you want to ~ This will be archived in the next few days!

The small group watched as Lithia was reborn, then Tzila, and then Toshiro stepped in line to be next. Once Tzila was finished, Mortifera handed the sheet off to Toshiro so that he could be born again and be cleansed of negative energy. Springtime was indeed a time for a cleanse, and while Lithia wasn't too into being “cleansed,” she couldn't say that she felt bad after doing their little ritual. She was an important test-run for the witches and was the icon that showed everyone else how to do it and what to do when they stepped into the circle with the sheet over their heads.

Lithia’s pink eyes remained on Tzila even as she came back to the small group gathered in the grass. Tzila didn't seem too ecstatic about the rebirth she had just done and Lithia felt the need to rub that in. ”How do you feel?” she asked, looking up at her sister who had been currently standing over her. Lithia remained seated in the grass to watch Toshiro become reborn and to wait for the ritual’s wrap up.
