Lyris's Brotherhood Oath

POSTED: Thu Aug 20, 2015 1:12 pm

Dated for early morning August 17th. Please allow Lyris to post first. Attendance is assumed but not required. +

As the pale sliver of dawn's light peeked over the horizon, Alistair was ready. He rose from his pile of furs to a symphony of birdsong but didn't dally to hear it. He stretched out his long strong limbs and greeted the morning with his daily routine of vigorous exercise. When his muscles were at last primed and flexible he rose from the upstairs floor and took a brush to the fur of his regal purple cloak. He strapped on his armor, tugging at straps and buckles until the fit felt right, and draped the purple cloak around his tall frame. For Lyris he would look a king today, even if he didn't feel it in his heart.

The Brotherhood was growing stronger and growing fast. He had a full order of knights at his command and the council ranks were nearly filled. Pirates targeted them, criminals and thieves sought to drive them away and yet nothing could crush the warrior pack's spirit. For all their hardship Casa di Cavalieri endured. It made him remember why it was he had joined in the first place, and that was all he needed to keep going. Head high he left his home in the posture of an Alpha and prepared himself to accept their newest knight.

Motherhood had hidden their pale huntress from his eyes and Alistair was eager to see how she was doing after her pups' birth. He wouldn't admit it, but he was even more anxious to hear news of the pups. It was the thrill of new life and a strengthening order that quickened his pace and he reached the inside of the courthouse before the horizon could turn from rose to yellow. He crossed to the end of the Great hall and waited for Lyris to appear.

Her pale body wasn't far behind him and as the large doors to the courthouse creaked open he greeted her with a long, booming howl to call the pack together.

His tail slipped into a friendly wag when she reached him and he smiled warmly. "You ready?" He asked and wanted to say more, but the seriousness of today's event wasn't lost on him so he kept his excitement contained. The pack trickled in quickly, most of them merely ascending the steps to the upper floor and it didn't take long for the hall to fill. He instructed Lyris to stand before him once she'd acknowledged that she was ready.

Eager, Alistair jumped right in, and he also knew Lyris wasn't someone who appreciated delay. "Lyris came to us a stranger, the huntress of a feral pack. She's left not one but two packs behind her, and I'm honored that she's chosen us as her final and true home." Once he started the last whispers of his pack died down and he continued once he knew he had their full attention. "We've all seen hardship and Lyris no less, but as I think Lyris has learned, together we can overcome it. We are never as strong as when we are united, and today she gives her oath and joins the few of us who have sworn to never fear the darkness. "

He looked to Lyris now and drew his sword."Please kneel and say the words."

Not even the wildest of her dreams would have been able to capture this.

The fluorite glimmered a deep and vibrant purple against the pale of her fingers, breaking the newborn sunlight that dared to envelop it and her figure, which strode tall and proud despite the exhaustion that whispered through her bones. The Famiglia cloak that was wrapped around her shoulders swept sharply, forward and back, with every movement of her long legs, tattooed or scarred. Her fur was still damp from her vigil in the steam baths, but it only caused her to shine brighter in the sun that dared to inch higher and higher. Her heart felt eons younger and several tons lighter, and her face encompassed it. Eyes dark and deep, as always, but shot through with a new found light; one that revealed something of a soul many would have previously thought Lyris Stryder did not possess. Yet, out of it all, the most striking feature upon the female was the jagged scarring that marked her jaw, not concealed by even a strand of hair. She had walked into the steam baths with a mane as long and wild as herself, but now marched towards the Great Hall with a style sharp and short. There was no longer any way or reason to hide the cracks that criss-crossed her body; they defined her, and Lyris now realized it was impossible to hide her definition.

Reaching the crest to view what had become the heart of her home, the newly made mother continued on without pause until the familiar form of her king came into view. At his inquiry, she offered only the lift of a corner of her mouth and a nod, running her thumb over the smooth edge of the violet stone she held, searching for the anxiety that usually preceded social events as these but finding only cobwebs of the fear that once was. She was not afraid of her Cavaliers; they were her family at last.

Alistair motioned quickly for her to stand before him, and Lyris obeyed, facing her Lune. His words were short, quick, and to-the-point, an aspect she appreciated and couldn't help but smile slightly at, understanding now that the golden-eyed man knew her well enough to read she was here to stay; something she had not known for certain herself until arising from her vigil. In what felt like the span of heartbeat, she was asked to kneel.

She paused, first, and untied her Famiglia cloak from her throat, feeling it slide gradually off her shoulders, down her back, and to the floor. Never again would she don it as a symbol of rank. Kneeling, Lyris turned her face up to a fellow knight and king, and repeated what she had so reverently been told to say. "I, Lyris Stryder, promise to my Lune to serve him with absolute loyalty. I will face the world without fear of my enemies or the darkness. Be brave and love all others so that they may love me. I will speak the truth always, even if it means death. Protect the helpless and do no evil." She paused, then, before delivering the final line of her promise. "This is my oath."

Luca’s night has also been a long one. With Lyris gone on her Vigil the new father was charged with the care of his two tiny daughters, who’s eyes had only opened a couple of days ago, and who needed to be nursed regularly. Through the night the father had hardly slept, the burden of being the sole caregiver for his tiny pups a new, and terrifying experience for him. Multiple times through the night he had made the trip from their den to Grynn’s, so that she could nurse her nieces in Lyris’ absence.

Through his exhaustion he awoke yet again, hearing Alistair’s call. Through the night he had slept in his lupus form, keeping his little one’s safe in the den, it had been their whole world until the disturbances of last night after all. Exiting the den, leaving the two bundles at the base of the tree, he began to shift, never taking his eyes off of the little squirming bodies that took in the grass and trees around them in awe.

Once he was comfortably back in his bi-pedal form the Mani reached out for his clothes, which hung on a nearby tree branch, and dressed himself. Fully dressed the Mani took one extra step, reaching for the long piece of fabric he had gotten from Clara yesterday, and tied it awkwardly around his chest. Gently he picked up each of his daughters and placed them in the hammock of fabric, where they happily settled, pleased to be in a small space yet again. Satisfied that his daughters were safe against his chest he made his way to the Great Hall.

Thanks to the amount of time it took for him to shift, get dressed and make his way from the gardens slowly with his two pups, the Mani arrived a little late. Sneaking into the back of the group he was quick to notice the change in Lyris’ appearance. Although indifferent to his mate’s hairstyle, he knew that she must have made the change for a reason and made a point to compliment her on it later. The feeling of squirming against his chest alerted him to the lightest of his charges, Indi, sticking her head out of the fabric. The father had to hold back a chuckle as he watched her try to take in the new sights and smells. Her mother's oath was certainly a good time to make her first public debut.

She was like unto stone, so strong and solid in her conviction. The severity of her sheared mane only seemed to enhance the effect. It highlighted her scarred cheek, forever chiseled into her flesh. It marked her as a survivor, a fighter, a warrior at heart. She had seen death and she had seen life, and so she would know how precious mortality was. The inner light could be extinguished in a second, never to be rekindled, and perhaps that was why she'd chosen to protect it, and swore to do so with her oath.

His sword caught the flickering light of the torches it danced upon the blade and with it's fiery kiss he welcomed her into the fold. It came to rest one shoulder and arced over her head to the other. It was done. "Lyris Stryder I accept your oath. Rise now, a knight of the Brotherhood." He spoke with solemnity, finality but it wasn't a frown his dark muzzle held now. As she rose, he handed her the cloak of her rank and smiled. From his oath to Lyris's now the words always exhilarated and rejuvenated him. They was no promise more sacred or heartfelt than that of the Brotherhood's. As they kneeled and spoke, he too made a promise. He would serve them as they served him with undying loyalty.

She had not slept the last night well at all. After all she had agreed to care for her brothers children. They were young and still needed mothers milk and she was just starting to end her time raising her baby. She was glad to do so though. Helpping her brother and his mate was the least she could do. She also knew deep down it must have been odd having her help. She at first felt odd and then she felt proud that she had been considered.

She moved close to Luca and smiled as she fixed her cloak. She was checking in on them and also watching Lyris. She was proud to call the woman her sister. She too was a proud wolf who now stood hand in hand with her and several other members within Casa. She smiled as she looked to her brother again. Its a good day she spoke as she watched Alistair.

Her hand reached out and stroked the fur of her cloak. The brotherhood a group of warriors who would do anything to maintain the peace. She hid mostly in the shadows but that made everyone else's job all the easier to do.

Only a couple of months ago, it had been Sylvie's Brotherhood ceremony. She had witnessed several before that. They held a different meaning to her now that she was part of the Brotherhood. Before, she felt like she was trying to gain acceptance. Now, she felt more accepted and despite having different opinions from Alistair, she was happy to work with him and support him for the pack. Sylvie was also more happy to see others rise to the rank as well.

Xavier walked at her left side as they walked towards where the ceremony was held, and Julien on her right. Xavier was sullen as usual, angry eyes on the ground. He stood taller than her now, having recently shifted. He kicked a stone, expressing his annoyance at coming to the ceremony. Sylvie wished that she could make him happy, but it seemed like nothing she tried worked. He still felt like an outsider in the pack, and even knowing how he felt did not help. The only time he seemed to be happy was when they were on the ship, especially when it was moving. There had been a brief moment where she felt like mother and son with him when he shifted, but it was merely a short-lived blip.

Xavier hung towards the back of the hall when they entered and Sylvie simply let him as she and Julien continued forward. Her adopted son knew better, at least, than to cause problems and Sylvie needed to be closer to the front of the forming crowd in order to see the proceedings. The coyote listened as Alistair and then her gaze moved to Lyris when she recited the familiar oath. As the ceremony continued, Sylvie glanced back, eyes seeking out Xavier, who was surprisingly paying very close attention to the ceremony. A small smile curved Sylvie's lips as she returned her attention to the front.

After she spoke the final word of her oath, she found silence. In that moment her dark eyes searched out Luca, the only one she had since let herself love, and the small, pale ears of her daughter from where he held her and her sister. She also found Grynn, whom had considered her family enough to nurse Teagan and Indi while she could not, and Sylvie, with her own adopted son, who's bright gaze was fixed on her. Among them she saw many more, all faces she could call by name and was proud to finally consider her family. She had not had a family since her own had lost their existence to the dark of the world. Now Lyris could find the light, and all of her Knights were standing in it. The cold of Alistair's blade kissed the edge of her shoulder, glimmering briefly in the rising sun. In the span of a heartbeat later, her king completed the ceremony with a final touch, and very suddenly she was a Knight.

With the strength she did not know her exhausted muscles still held the scarred female stood and accepted her cloak from Alistair. "Thank you." Lyris spoke to her Lune, a surety and brightness in her face that she wasn't sure she had ever seen. Quietly, the Cavallo turned to her Cavaliers and smiled, the gesture ever so brief and genuine. And then she descended from the scene towards Luca, eager to reunite with her mate, puppies, and a life she never knew she could have.

Loralei Firestorm
// [+361]

It seemed like overnight the Brotherhood had come to grow, but this filled Lola’s heart with a new hope she hadn’t felt for awhile, these were pleasant and buoyant thoughts for the future of her pack though matters of the heart were altogether different…clouded. Still, the Veleno had thrust herself into her duties, becoming busier than ever outside of the Fort and in the Sugarwoods where she’d been systematically cleaning out the old sugar houses and constructing a proper chemist’s lab for both her poisons, the wines she’d continued experimenting with, and her perfumes for personal and masking uses should her packmates require it. The woods had become a place of solitude for her, an area where she could escape the confines of her Mani’s quarters for a while and avoid interaction when her usual extroverted self had withdrawn within.

She wouldn’t be going out to the lab today. Her packsister, Lyris, recently mated and now called a mother, had taken her vigil last night and Lola’s...well, their Lune would hear her oath and welcome her as knight within the Brotherhood. Gone were the days where the Mani had let her health deteriorate over her own guilty conscience. She was free of the monster, and had soon returned to a shining former self. She preened her fur and swept up her blood red locks into a chignon, checking her reflection in a mirror she’d finally moved into her room, and slipped into her tawny hued cloak for once, the fox fur trim of her own Corpo and Brotherhood cloak before leaving her room.

Amongst the last to arrive, she stood near the back and wore a smile on her face for Lyris as Alistair begun the ceremony. While many mixed emotions bled beneath the exterior of her beauty, she clung to and focused on the pride she felt for the ex-Dawner now true sister to her heart. A shiver went through her as Lyris spoke words Lola had once said to Jazper and her hands began to applaud after the Lune named the Stryder as one of the Brotherhood.
