Well, the dogs are howlin' all over the neighborhood

Bit of a random starter! xD Basically, Clover is chasing a deer they almost caught (Jehan lagging behind); both are in their Lupus forms.

The three-legged dog hobbled quickly through the tall prairie grass, almost invisible thanks to his height and the odd brown-gold blend of his fur. He panted softly as he ran, rushing for the herd of deer grazing in the fields at the edge of the forest, and with a bark scattered them. He was fast, disadvantaged as he was, but he knew he wouldn't be quick enough to catch or kill one of the fleet-footed creatures alone; instead, he barked again and watched as a gray shape hidden in the trees lunged out for a young buck.

Clover was only as tall as a she-wolf in her Lupus form, but she was thin and muscular, and slammed into the buck. He floundered, spindly legs flailing, and Jehan caught up with them, biting. One cloven hoof struck him in the shoulder hard enough to send him stumbling, though, and Clover growled as the deer, bleeding now from shallow wounds, got his feet under him and began to run again.

Oh hell no, the mountain dog spat, and began to chase after him before Jehan could protest. Panting hard, he staggered through the woods after her, and at last slowed, letting up a doggish howl in hopes that an Infernian could catch the thing before Clover hurt herself or the deer got away.

Sorry for the slow~ and that random reply is random. [ 368 ]

For once the desert dragon was on the prowl in a different form, a strange form, and her unfamiliarity showed in the way she moved, somewhat lumbering and labored and lacking the usual grace and finesse of her favorite form. In lupus as least she felt somewhat normal, though slight and petite she still felt like all her parts were in the right place and she was still sleek and slender, quick and agile. In secui though, she was a whole different creature, large and stocky, built for quarrel and combat, not stealth and seduction. As much as she hated it, she used it a lot more than her smaller lupus form purely for that reason, it was just bigger, and she really didn't like feeling so small.

Oversize ears gave an evident twitch to the sound of a howl rising up over the trees, the pitch all kinds of wrong for any self-respecting coyote and she couldn't help the bemused look as it spread across her features for a moment. For a second or two she thought it was an intruder and it took a beat before she finally decided to investigate but not long before she came upon the three-legged dog, passing him by with only a brief but calculating glance from those molten gold depths as she pressed on toward the more alarming scent of blood. She would deal with him soon enough.

Nostrils flared, the scent of blood growing stronger as the sounds of hurried footfall eventually erupted through the trees and spurred her onward, her gracelessness soon forgotten as she gained speed and loped forward, spying a wounded deer and a young femme in hot pursuit just ahead. The deer was in a panic and kicked wildly as it ran, in some instances narrowly missing the shaggy she-dog, who seemed more interested in catching it and not so much in keeping out of harm's way. Growling softly the beastly huntress pushed forward and veered off slightly to suddenly rush in from the side, turning her shoulder inward and tackling the deer, setting it off balance and making it trip over its own legs to eventually stumble and fall headlong into a nearby thicket.

A Secui coyote was quick to pass him, all cinnamon and sand on long legs, and Jehan met her golden gaze for a perturbing moment before she raced on. He fought to keep up. While he was fairly quick despite his disability, he still wasn't as fast as a healthy coyote, especially in the speedy halfling form.

Clover, though, was fast if through sheer determination alone; she was at the buck's heels, snapping and baying as it fled. Its hooves lashed out at her skull as she ran after it, but she nearly had it, if she could just summon one last burst of energy to overtake it—!

The coyote rushed past her and slammed into the deer, and it lost its footing, stumbling in the tall grass and crashing with a rustle into the bushes. Clover blinked then growled, pivoting with claws dug deep into the ground and springing at the fallen creature. It struggled to get back up, but by then the mountain dog was upon it, jaws grabbing the base of its head and shaking and biting in a vain attempt to end its life.

Jehan caught up to the chaos, then dipped his ears low to the coyote and skulked to the side, out of the way.

Stealin' that thunder~ [ 358 ]

She rebounded off the deer and used the sudden stop to spin around her paws and about-face to set her footing so she could charge again if need be, but by then the young she-dog had rushed in for the kill, or at least something like it. She had sprung atop the cervid and closed her jaws about its neck but didn't strangle so much as greatly inconvenience it, and the thing seemed to struggle more in spite of all her effort.

Smirking, she took a moment to observe, molten gold averting for a moment to eye the disabled dog as he finally caught up to them before she loped forward to help once more, closing larger stronger jaws about the creature's throat and dropping her weight on its chest so it couldn't catch its breath. It took a moment but with their collective effort the deer finally gave one last rattle before lying still, and once certain of its demise the desert dragon rose to her paws and stepped back a few paces to shake the leaf litter from her pelt.

Eyeing them both, she couldn't help the somewhat perplexed frown as it flooded her features a moment, fiery eyes scanning their forms for any hint of coyote, but other than the scent of Inferni there was not a trace of it to be found. This bothered her more than she thought it should, and after a beat – given to the young femme a chance to gather herself – she finally spoke. "What're you two doing here?"

Her tone was not as accusatory as her words were and more than anything it seemed like she was genuinely curious since it appeared that they weren't just strangers who happened to waltz their way into the coyotes' claim. Someone allowed them in, and she suspected that someone was Vesper, there was no one else with the authority to do so, not with non-coyotes at least. The thought that their leader would willingly allow those dogs into the pack only further confounded her, and her frown lingered in spite of her usual inclination to smile that mischievous little smile of hers.

Teeth dug in at the base of the deer's skull, and Clover growled low in her chest as the creature struggled in vain beneath her. Her growl jumped in pitch when the coyote manuevered into her space, but her matted ears pinned against her head and her tail was low. It was clear that the coyote was helping, not trying to steal their kill, but Clover wasn't sure on the protocol; they'd been in the clan for a week, at most, and butted heads with more coyotes than they befriended.

Jehan watched nervously, his smaller ears folded back, but the deer died of exhaustion and asphyxiation both. Clover released its neck and licked her chops, big brown eyes falling on the lithe coy-jackal curiously.

The Infernian asked the question both dogs expected, and Jehan grinned.

Do you mean, like, in general? Or literally what am I doing here? Because they have slightly different answers. His turquoise eyes flashed bright in what was perhaps an unsubtle attempt to gain the upper hand in the conversation. Joking when faced with awkwardness was the best defense mechanism the three-legged dog had ever invented, though when he glanced at Clover in an attempt to get her in on the joke, she only licked her lips again nervously and settled down beside the kill.

The spitz mongrel huffed and stretched his one foreleg out before him, nonchalant. Vesper let us in Inferni. As like... Outsiders or whatever.

We're friends of Cartier, so... Clover said, and scratched nervously at a floppy ear with her hind paw.
