For Kennedy

Word Count → +300 :: Florist co-rank thread. Sorry for the crap post. Could we possibly date this for the 24th?

Morning had only just come, and the coyote girl was already up and about. It happened sometimes where she would be up early in the morning and sometimes not. It probably had something to do with her worry over her siblings and her new pack mates who had been injured in the war. In her heart, she cared about them, even if her timid nature hid that very well. She just wanted to make sure that all of them were going to be ok.

In the short time since Crucifix had come to Inferni, she had already made sure to have her own room set up, though there really wasn't much to it. It had the basics but it was still lacking. It needed a small touch to show that this room was her's and didn't just belong to some other member. Aside from that, she had done a bit of exploring and managed to find her way to Inferni's greenhouse. It had some plants, but not too many. It was a shame that there weren't as many flowers as there were other plants. Sure the other plants had their obvious uses, but she was sucker for pretty things, flowers included. She had noticed that there were some lavender growing outside on the grounds. Maybe there were some more around Inferni that she could find too.

That was it. That would be her goal today. She wanted to find more. A soft smile formed on her muzzle as she padded her way around the grounds. Her long hair trailed behind her, blowing a bit from the morning breeze. She wasn't sure where to go looking, but anywhere was fine. This was home, so she hopefully wouldn't have to worry about running into any wolves here. That would at least keep the anxiety at bay.

*slowturtlebutt arrives* Ken's in Optime form!

Kennedy rubbed at the gash his neck as he made his way to the mansion, sighing as he touched the scab.

It was hard not to think about the war when his injuries forced him to take a bit of a break from his duties as they healed, leaving nothing to entertain him but his thoughts. Mags was there with him, but the silent crone’s company was mostly spent with her fussing over him, her knobby fingers brushing his head and petting his ears as he rested in her lap.

It felt nice and it was welcomed, for the quiet moments were a nice change of pace from what the wartime provided, but the lack of activity was beginning to drive him crazy.

Kennedy’s injuries had scabbed over, and to expend his stored up energy, he shifted and decided to walk around. His feet were aimless, he just felt like walking for the sake of it.

But he knew the mansion was a better place than any to walk by, supposing he could hit up a conversation with someone and shoot the breeze. He was dying for some sort of interaction aside from the old crone and the ravens.

A very small figure was about when he came upon the mansion, and he blinked in surprise at the sight. Conrad had told him about a new coyote joining the clan—"One of the de le Poer bunch," he had told him, and he had added, "They just come out the woodwork, huh?"—and he recalled the Bellum saying that she was small.

But Kennedy didn't imagine that she was this tiny; she was smaller than even him.

The Fisher began walking towards her and lifted the hand that had been touching the gash on his neck to wave at the girl. "Looking for something? My name's Kennedy, I'm one of the Sciens," he said, a friendly smile brightening his face where it once looked distracted and glum.

For the time being, Crucifix had been keeping to sticking around the Mansion. She wanted to make sure that she had found everything that there was to see around here before she decided to move on to somewhere else. From what she could find so far, there was just a bunch of lavender and other common flowers that were growing the in area. If she was going to find something to go with the purple of the lavender, she was going to have to look elsewhere. She bent down, carefully picking on of them and slipping it into her bag, keeping this one as a reference. She would always be able to come back for another one later.

As the girl moved back up to head somewhere else, she noticed the other coyote coming towards her, true to her nature her hands moved up in front of her chest, some of her hair falling over her face. He had introduced himself and wore a smile on his face to contrast the obvious injuries that he held, including the one that his hand had moved away from. It brought a sadness to her to see the members of her new home in such a shape, but there wasn't much she could do to help.

Crucifix offered him a small smile, though her whispered voice contradicted it, "I'm.. Crucifix.. I was.. umm.. looking for flowers.. I like them.." Her gaze had remained a bit to the side for now, though had occasionally glanced upwards towards Kennedy to see what he would do and say. It seemed alright for now and he was friendly enough. Maybe he would be able to help her look for some more flowers. Maybe even better she could make him something to forget about his wounds. Maybe there was something she could do to help after all.

Like a morning glory, the girl seemed to withdraw when he made his presence his known, and while his steps did not falter, Kennedy's head tilted to the side in curiosity. He was not one to push his company upon others, and he wondered if he was disturbing some task she was partaking in.

But she did not seem to reject his approach, though. Hidden behind dark locks, he managed to see the smile that she gave, though it was quiet and her voice even quieter. She introduced herself as Crucifix, and he nodded, his movements gentle both because of the injury and the shy individual he had happened upon.

His long ears strained forward to catch her soft words, and he blinked in surprise at the answer. "Flowers, huh?" he echoed. It was not something he was expecting, but after thinking about how quiet and reserved Crucifix appeared to be, it wasn't as surprising. It was definitely a complete turnaround from the girl's sister.

"That's cool! Flowers are, um, pretty." That was all he knew about them, though. A hand rose to cup the back of his neck as if a bit embarrassed by what he said, but the smile remained on his face. "Do you need any help with that? I don't know a lot about flowers." That was obvious by his well-thought out remark seconds before.

"But, I can help you look for them. I think I know a few places that haven't really been affected by the cold yet." It wouldn't be long until the first, true frost would settle upon the land, and then most of the fair-weather flowers would be gone.

Crucifix, for all her timid nature, was fine with meeting new people, just as long as the one that she was coming across was not some kind of wolf. The more of her anxiety that she could keep at bay the better. It was nice to see that the others were doing what they could to take their mind off the war and try to relax. She was glad that he wasn't taken back by her shy nature. She just kept her smile, all be it hidden behind her long hair.

It was nice that Kennedy didn't outright dismiss her want to search for flowers, and it seemed he was also willing to help her look for some. She knew it wasn't something that others liked doing, especially males. It just seemed like a rather silly idea to them, at least that was what she thought. When they didn't turn her down or even offered to help, it made her feel really good inside, even though she didn't really show it. She hoped that the two of them together might be able to find something nice and pretty together. Her smile moved up along her muzzle as she spoke, "Sure.. I mean.. if you want to.."

The coyote girl turned her gaze down to the ground, looking about the flowers that grew naturally on the grounds. She had hoped that his gaze would move down along with her's. It would make for explaining things better, "I just.. wanted to find some.. that looked good with these.. Do you.. know any places with lots of flowers..?" Anyone in Inferni would know better than her. She just hoped he would know of at least one place, otherwise the two of them would just be wandering around for quite a while.

Crucifix appeared to be happy with his response to her shy-spoken statement, seeing what he could of her remaining smile that was hidden by her hair. He wondered if this quietness was usual of her or if she was unused to Inferni, what with her being new. Most of the de le Poer children that had come to join the clan from some land beyond were all aggressive in some manner, and momentarily, he wondered if this was a sort of calm before the storm.

But he shook his head at the thought that had jumped into his head. The girl before him seemed like a genuine wallflower if he had ever saw one.

"Yeah, I want to," he confirmed with a nod of his head and a smile, moving his hands to cross them over his chest. Crucifix glanced towards the ground and his eyes followed her's, and he saw that they were surrounded by flowers. He hadn't noticed this beforehand—it wasn't something he normally took into consideration when checking his surroundings. She asked him if there were any flowers that looked good with them, and he pressed his ears against his head thoughtfully.

"Well," Kennedy began, "I don't know if I have a good eye for colors and stuff, but the moors should have plenty to choose from. There gotta be something there to match these flowers." He nodded in agreement at his own statement; it made more sense the more he spoke. "It's probably one of the prettier places in Inferni—lots of meadows there for flowers to grow. It's not too far if you don't mind the walk."

Crucifix was the black sheep of her siblings, and she was fully aware of it. She could never live up to their level of commitment, and her own nature held her back from her true full potential. She knew that there was nothing she could do it fight against it, so it was just better to live with it. Crucifix could only offer him a smile and hope that he would be alright with her nature, just as her siblings had accepted her. She knew that given the dedication of her other siblings, her kind of demeanor might not be as tolerated as others, but she could only hope that it might have brought some comfort given the recent events that had taken place. Perhaps it would be nice to spend some time with someone who was more innocent than the normal bunch.

It was nice to hear that he wanted to come along with her, and had even thought of a place that the two of them would be able to go to. When the male spoke of the fields of flowers, the girl's face lit up. She was a sucker for such pretty things, and the sound of there being so many flowers this close to home brought her great happiness. She wouldn't mind the walk to get there, and she was hoping that it would be just as good as the picture she was making in her head of the place, "I.. don't mind.. could you.. take me there.. please..?"

Crucifx took a moment to close the bag at her hip, green gaze turning up to Kennedy as she waited for him to lead her. One of her hands moved up to brush a bit of the hair from the front of her face before it moved back down to rest against her chest with the other one. She was ready whenever he was.

"Of course," Kennedy answered easily with a smile, quietly pleased with himself when the girl's face brightened at the mention of the moors. Everything had been dark and serious as of late, especially on the faces of his friends. To see a little a little happiness for flowers, of all things, made him content. Perhaps it was just the simpleness of it all—everything had become too complicated lately.

Kennedy waved his hand to gesture Crucifix to follow him and he kept his pace moderate as to allow him to walk next to her side. "You came to the clan at a better time than any," the man began to remark as they walked northwest, weaving between the trees of Nod. "You've probably already heard about it, or seen." His hand moved to touch his neck again. The physical reminders of the war spoke as loud as words.

"Everything's about settled now, though." This Kennedy felt quiet doubt about, but he spoke confidently. There were still the matter of Ferret and his needed justice, but the coymutt knew better than to mention it. Justice for a missing prince was what had started the war. There had seemed to be no more answers revolving that mystery, but he didn't want to let it go. It didn't seem right.

Not wanting to bring the conversation down with talk of the war, he changed gears. "Did you come to Inferni to join your siblings?" Kennedy asked as he gave a glance towards Crucifix. "They're all good kids, the lot of them. Well, for the most part." At this, he gave a wiry smile as he thought of Covenant. She was definitely a questionable character when it came to the definition of a good kid. It was still hard to believe that the quiet girl before him was related to Cove at all.

Crucifix gave a small nod as Kennedy gestured for her to follow him. She gave him a small nod before moving along to his side, keeping along with his pace. Her hair trailed behind her as they walked, giving a better look of her face. Her green gaze moved up to the one at her side as he began to speak, though his comment had troubled her a bit. She had heard about the war since coming to Inferni, especially of the effects it was having on her brother Antioch, but why did that mean that it was a better time for her to come? She never liked the idea of war, or fighting of any kind. Probably helped that she was always worrying for her siblings, and was filled with too much anxiety to participate in the acts on her own. She relied more on her faith than her fighting skills. Her confused look had not faded, though her head tilted a bit to the side, "I have heard.. but.. what do you.. mean by what you.. said before..?"

The brown girl had heard of the ending of the war, and all that was left now was to let the pack recover. It would take time, but they would come back from this. Inferni, from what she had heard, was a strong clan, and they would be able to move on from this. The sins that those in the Court had committed would catch up to them soon enough.

Crucifix's attention was brought back to Kennedy as he asked about her reason for coming to the clan. It was that obvious. Her family mattered a lot. She offered him a nod before speaking quietly, "Yes.. I was.. hoping that.. Crucible.. would come too.. but she didn't.. I hope she.. will soon.." Her sister had been a good companion before the girl had traveled her, but she missed her other siblings so much. Crucible would have to come at some point. They all needed to be together again.

Crucifix confirmed that she heard the talk and Kennedy nodded away until she asked what he meant. The coymutt turned his gaze towards her to see her head tilted in what he saw as youthful curiosity, and he looked back ahead of them as they walked. He was not that older than her, only by a few years, but his shoulders felt heavy with burden and experience and his neck hurt still where the blade had bit him. "War spares no one. It is over, but..."

The Fisher fell silent for a few beats. His explanation was cryptic for a reason; even in this lax situation, he did not want to speak about his misgivings and his uncertainties. The war was over, yes, but he still felt haunted, tense.

But he rolled his shoulders as if dismissing a stray thought and he continued with a tired smile, but a smile at the least. "There is much to be done," he decided to say, "Hunting is easy in the winter, but we need to worry about the cold as well. Preparations need to be made, and extra hands are appreciated in any way." This was not a thought that plagued him like the rest, but it would suffice for the conversation.

When they spoke about the de le Poers, Kennedy felt himself ease again. "Crucible is your sister? he assumed, adding, "I'm sure she will come soon. Inferni attracts everyone sooner or later." That was what he was told, and that was what he witnessed. Blood was a powerful tie to this land. Even he, faithlessness in superstition, knew this fact.

The trees began to thin, and before them the expanse of the moor began to open. The forest grass began to grow higher, and soon longer blades began to kiss the back of their legs. "Where are you going to put the flowers? In your room?" Many took residence in the mansion, but he did wonder if she would be like her brother and live in the caverns.
