The day had started off as a promising one: the sun shined warmly in the clear, winter sky; the air was crisp, and smelt of fresh snow. It would have been a good day for any outdoor activity. Hunting, sparing, riding, anything! None of which interested the Stryder youth though. She just wanted out of the house and away from the thick tension that had settled between her sister and herself. It was hard enough to go to bed with her with the electricity that seemed to spark every time Teagan saw her koi-colored sibling. To be confined in a small place and alone though? They were liable to end up tearing up the house from a fight!

And that was the last thing she wanted. She didn’t want to hurt Indi, could never even dream of it, but, her anger flared like a crackling fire, and Teagan knew she had to remove herself from the situation before she’d do something that she’d regret. She had tried venting out her frustrations on the nearby forest, but it had done her no good other than to remind her of how pointless it was. So, this was what had led the Lotta to venture to the stables. She had noticed her parents frequenting it with tools every so often, and, Teagan had grown curious as to what the two conspiring adults were doing. There was also the added benefit of seeing the horses too, Kenyon especially.

Teagan placed the full bucket of carrots down onto a relatively flat stone before turning her attention to the stable doors. Using all of her strength, she managed to pull open the large doors, allowing natural light to beam into the stable. Curious heads sprouted from the stalls, and were accompanied by friendly nickering and snorts as the horses saw they had a visitor. The child felt some of her frustration dissipate at the sight of the animals. She went to retrieve her pail, and, slowly, the girl worked her way down the line, offering up a carrot to any that wanted one.

She was sure to give Kenyon and her father’s horse, Ulrich, a few extra helpings before putting the bucket near the stable door. She carefully searched the stable, looking for anything that looked like it was or had been under construction. None of the stalls with horses in them appeared to have had any recent work done on them…

Teagan stopped as she came upon two empty stalls—or, what could have been two at least, seeing as how large it was in comparison to the rest of the single-stalls. The Lotta’s canary gaze flickered about the open stall. Mesh wire was used to fence the area off, giving the idea that, whatever was to be kept in it, was something that needed… “A cage,” the child mused, resting a hand along a wooden trim. The more she stared at it now, the more it resembled just that. A few, large branches had been put into place, as well as a few platforms along the walls. There was scarcely little on the floor itself. Everything was elevated, and looked like it was meant for a bird… “I wonder who Mom and Daddy plan on putting in here…” Surely, her mother’s little bluebird didn’t need a cage so large…

With ropes held tightly in his claws Luca guided the two colts back towards the stables. They had successfully stood through a grooming session and had been allowing him to slip the rope leads over their heads without much fuss. Soon he would have to up their training to include proper reins and then a saddle but for now the colts just needed to focus on socializing and being use to other horses and Luperci.

Lyris and Luca had already decided on the pairs future. Spirit would be trained to pull carts and would eventually be an ideal horse for training youth to ride given his sweet nature. Sasha on the other hand was far more energetic and had a hint of playful mischief. The mated pair hoped that as Sasha got older that confident energy could be moulded into a brave warhorse.

As he approached the stables he quickly noticed that someone had opened the doors. Assuming it was Lyris or one of the other horse owners the Lune thought nothing of it, until he led the colts into the building.“Teagan?” He greeted in a surprised tone, not use to seeing his daughter in the stables. With a sense of purpose he guided the colts into their stalls, hanging the rope on the wall beside them.

Joining his daughter at the end of the stable he looked from her to the sanctuary. “It’s for the birds.” He spoke, answering the question he was sure she had. “Or at least it will be once they get use to it.” He mused under his breath. Leaning against a near by stall he patted the horse within. An idea popped into his head and his ears propped up on his head. “Hey.” He started with a large grin. “How would you like to join me in getting the falcons to introduce them to their new home?” Lyris and he had introduced them a couple of times already but Teagan didn’t need to know that. The two birds would need to be reintroduced to the sanctuary regularly if it was going to be successfully used.

The young princess continued to stare curiously at the project before her. She hadn’t seen a lot of birds in the pack, well, none that looked like they had been tamed anyway. Most of the animals owned by the knightly group were livestock. The only communal birds they had were the chickens, but they already had a pen, and had no need for the tailored accessories the cage before her had. Her mother’s bird was the only other that came to mind, but…Ajax was so small. He had no need for such a large enclosure.

Teagan’s ears flickered at the sound of approaching hooves, and, at the sound of her name, Teagan’s attention was fully gained. She blinked as she recognized the tall, imposing figure of her father leading two young horses. “Daddy?” She echoed back, brows rising into her hair in her surprise. She hadn’t planned on seeing him there. “What are you doing here?” The answer became obvious as she saw him lead the pair of colts to their stables though, so, she amended her question, “What’d you do with them?” She nodded to the horses. She liked the hoofed creatures, and was eager to learn what she could about them and the work involved with them.

Her father came to join her, explaining what the enclosure was and answering her unvoiced questions. The Stryder youth nodded, her gaze roving the cage. She didn’t miss what his words insinuated. “The birds.” It meant that there were some hidden away somewhere…but where had they been? In all of her adventures and explorations, she had yet to come across an avian creature deserving of such a specified cage. Whoever they were, they were likely larger than an ordinary songbird. The fixtures hinted to that much.

She had been about to question him about the feathered creatures when the Lune made an offer that further added to Teagan’s curious interest in the mystery before her. She visible perked up. “We have falcons?!” She gasped, excitement woven in her voice. She hadn’t seen any up close before, and to think that there were a few owned by the pack? The prospect of an encounter with such an exotic creature was enough to earn a slow wag from the Lotta.

In a decisively Indi-like fashion, Teagan reached over to envelope her father’s arm in order to tug him into motion. “Oh yes, Daddy, I’d love to help you! Where are they at?” Her stoic demeanor had been replaced by one of excitement and eagerness to see something new. An enthusiastic grin spread widely on her lips, revealing her pearl-white teeth. She could hardly wait to see them!
