00+ All Welcome! Broken Occident, come investigate the islands w/ Vesper! ;O

See galleries for credit.

Rain fell into a broken sea. The waves churned softly, small rolls cresting white and spraying foam onto crumbled rocks and grassy islands ravaged by the quakes and chaos of the fallen star. To see the land with her own eyes was a surreal experience for Vesper, who hadn't been this far south in, possibly, years -- back when the swath of forest that was an old reserve and the swamplands where the voodoo woman lived were still a part of the peninsula, not broken into unrecognizable fragments on the changed horizon.

The small coywolf stood silhouetted against the ocean and islands for some time, and then she made a curious sound -- a croak -- and a black shape spiraled from the sky, becoming part of her shadow as she trotted down a rocky beach and approached one of the changed land masses.

(000) Lithia has her scent hidden when outside the pack - for avoidance of conflict. Feel free to have Ves notice her eyes tho, if she'd make that connection >:)

As she looked on to the chopped land masses ahead, she almost couldn’t believe what she saw. It was hard to believe a giant light falling from the sky and a couple earthquakes caused all this. Shattered the lands, broke her home. Well, one of them. Lithia’s eyes scanned the lands where the murky, poisoned waters of Grandfather’s Tears used to sit, but only found ocean waves lapping at the bit of rocky shore that was left after the devastation.

Lithia wasn’t sure what to think. She just stood there with her mouth hanging open and her pink eyes scanning the new, broken lands for what they were worth. She wondered if those who had made their homes out here were able to escape – or were they swallowed up by the earth?

A croak and a flap of wings caught the Oriax’s attention as it was heard just a few yards to her left. In the trees, the mostly broken, but some still standing, trees, she thought she saw something flit along the jagged shore. But her eyes deceived her and so did the wind. She saw the form, but she couldn’t get any information on the being.

So, she hooted at them.

Vesper slipped and skidded slightly down a muddy slope, closer to where the sea lapped ever patiently at the shore -- intent on eroding it all away, Ves thought, no matter how long it took. Perhaps the rest of the earth would go the way of the Tangles; the continent would break into islands, mile by mile, and vanish into a timeless ocean. While rock wore away, mountains crumbled, trees fell, lands burned -- it was a constant, and she'd never quite escaped it since she set foot in this place.

To think there had been a time when she didn't know about the ocean, about Inferni, about Myrika -- it was strange.

She was getting old.

A voice hooted abruptly, and Vesper picked her head up and turned her good ear toward the source, straightening to brace her cream forelegs against the slope. A dark wolf stood there, ticked with silver and smelling of pine and another, almost spice-like scent Ves didn't think she'd smelled before. The contrast of that scent to the area around them set up a few red flags, but she hadn't the energy for suspicion right now.

She'd come south to escape all of it.

She grimaced and, with a grunt of exertion, hauled herself back onto solid land. The raven flew closer, but didn't land. She stared at the stranger, wondering what to say, what to ask.

Shit's wrecked, said Vesper.

The woman, a gray-colored Coyote. Probably a hybrid. Scarred like her mother, but way more. Friendly, it seemed. Inferni. From the wind and from what she could see, Lithia could collect a lot of information. Her pink eyes watched the woman heave herself onto the bank, but then her eyes settled on the backdrop. The broken lands, the new seas, and the dismay of her old home. To think, her mother no longer had reason to fear the Tangles. The Tangles were no more, and the swamps were the sea’s problem then.

She wondered if her father’s body was trapped in a mud sarcophagus, rolling around under the sea, under the waves.

”Yes, it is,” Lithia answered. ”Who knew some stupid red dot could cause all this... Good thing I moved north when I did… or maybe I’d be feeding the fish right now.” Just like daddy.

It was intriguing to Lithia how she knew so much about the Hybrid woman, but from there, the woman couldn’t know anything about her. Only what she looked like and smelled like. But her scent really didn’t give off any information except for maybe her travels and the choice of ginger she decided to rub on herself to smell spicy. Maybe she was a cook.

A stupid red dot -- Vesper supposed that it was an apt description. That was all it had been at first, until she'd seen it careening through the sky, until the earth began to shake and the waves began to crash in. Then it had been a fireball, a falling light that brought nothing with it but destruction. Diego claimed that they were fortunate, and that their faith and luck was the reason that nobody died, but Vesper knew it wasn't true.

Her ravens died. Kaena died, too, somewhere far away.

She shook her head as if in sympathy with the girl, but didn't comment for a while.

Then she turned to face the ocean again. I wanted to see the damage for myself, she said, then scanned the horizon. A lot of canines must have died here. She flicked her tail and glanced over her shoulder at the dark girl. I'm going to explore one of the islands if you wanna come with, she offered. Aloof as she was with strangers, some code from her seasons as a loner -- or perhaps her softening with age -- made her more considerate than some. She didn't care if the girl came with her or not, but she wouldn't just leave her.

Anathema had taken damage from the red dot as well. The caves rumbled, debris fell, rocks caved in and trapped some members, all the intact windows were smashed out, her mother’s house crushed by a fallen tree... If Lithia had known the Infernian’s thoughts, she, too, would agree that maybe it was more than just a red dot. And it was because with it came lots of destruction.

Luckily, no one died in Anathema. No one she had known anyway.

Lithia hadn’t known anyone that lived in the South; none that could’ve been greatly affected by the destruction anyhow. She had come this way to learn about how the lands changed from the destruction. That and that only, but now as she was prompted with the opportunity to explore, she couldn’t refuse.

Her ears perked at the invitation, and her answer deceived her true excitement. ”Sure, I’ll come with you. Lead the way.” Even though an array of excitement never truly got anyone in trouble, even that Lithia refused to completely portray. Though, she did offer the scarred Coyote a smile while she waited for her to turn and lead them to the island. Lithia eyed the water between them and wondered how deep it truly was.

Feel free to pick an old defunct territory for them to explore if you want! :o And pp them getting there.

The dark she-wolf agreed to join her, flashing a quick smile, and Vesper nodded and trotted toward the water. Overhead, the raven continued to spiral, watchful but quiet; Ves ignored it, though almost anyone could identify the bird as a companion. She was not on some covert mission now, however—only exploring, seeing the extent of the damage, how the lands changed.

That they were near old Anathema territory didn’t escape her notice, and curious thoughts flickered in the back of her mind as she glanced back toward the pink-eyed girl, but she didn’t dwell on them.

She dipped her paws in the surf and recoiled briefly at the temperature before plunging in with a grunt. Small waves lapped at her chest and bobbed her small form in the water, but she paddled out, snorting foam from her nostrils. The first tiny landmass was not more than fifty yards out from the mainland, though when Vesper scrabbled up the rocks it became evident that there was nothing substantial here. Her motions were awkward as she heaved herself up, ignoring her dripping body and lank tail.

Just as soon as she’d found solid land, she splashed clumsily down into the surf again.

(300+) Naturally, I chose Blackmoor Castle because I wrote its new description lol.

The coyote woman led the way, awkwardly throwing herself into the dark waters lapping at the edge of the peninsula. Lithia followed hesitantly, first checking her belt and pockets for things that might be ruined or lost by the water. Walking into the persistent waves on two legs felt even more awkward. The chilled waves pushed up against her legs as she tried to draw them forward, and once or twice she stumbled. If it wasn’t for the opportunity of exploration, Lithia might’ve vowed to come back in warmer weather when the surf could have been warmer.

Once she had reached deep enough waters, Lithia tried to remember the difference in technique from Lupus to Optime. In her four-legged forms, swimming was much more natural, but in her elongated Optime form, she thought of which limps to kick and which to paddle. It was about the same thing, only a little harder since this body was meant for vertical uprightness, whereas her four-legged forms were meant for horizontal uprightness.

Kicking her feet and paddling with cupped hands, she followed the Infernian in the dark surf. At first, the woman stopped at a small island that didn’t seem to hold much – maybe a few rocks and trees. She hoisted herself on its shore, while Lithia treaded water and tried to remain in one place. It wasn’t long before Vesper joined her back in the waves and they headed for the next nearest land mass – which happened to be the ruins of the Blackmoor Castle.

Seeing the remnants of the pillars that once stood tall and proud, Lithia’s heart skipped a beat. There were only a few weeks between their recent move and the fall of the red star, which was an alarming coincidence. If Aeron had not commanded them as she did, many – if not, half – of them could’ve been killed. Their graves buried under the very stones.

They came upon the shore – one that used to be the Oakwoods just outside of the castle. Once her feet could touch the inclining sand, she stumbled toward the new shores of her old home.

The Optime wolf was an ungraceful thing in the water, though Vesper might have envied her size as the waves tossed her around like she was nothing. She let instinct guide her, however, letting her body drift in places where the water worked in her favor, conserving what energy she could. Going on this adventure reminded her of her watery outing with Kiara, a long, long time ago, too--though she'd found kinship in the arctic wolf. She felt she had less in common with this darkling.

No sooner did her muscles begin to ache did her paws scrape earth--and then stone, brick, concrete; something unnatural beneath her feet. Vesper used this to pull herself up onto dry land, shaking her coat out and watching the (assumed) loner pad toward the dark, crumbled walls of a castle that Vesper had never known.

What was this place? the Aquila found herself asking, beginning to step forward among the ruin and broken black walls. Metal lay here and there, the warped pieces of gates and tools, and she found the remains of a chair with broken legs. She sniffed this, then moved on. An old human building? she ventured to guess--but this place wasn't like the mansion, that was for sure. It occurred to her that she'd never seen or known of this place, though slowly she began to put two and two together regarding its location and secrecy.

(000) ooc text here.

Black stone littered the lands everywhere. Large, half-crumbled pillars still stood in some places; places where Kentaro or even she might have lived once. There was metal, furniture, and tools that littered the ground, along with glass beneath all that. It glistened in the daylight underneath all the rapture. Lithia’s heart lurched at the sight of it all. It could have been her, Tzila, or her mother’s life here, but somehow fate had saved them. Fate had brought Aeron to them.

Somehow, she was going to use this as a good omen, or otherwise use it in a reading somehow. Anathema, full of sinners, and they all deserved to live.

”Anathema’s old home,” she said, figuring that it would do no one any harm or any good now that it was a pile of bricks. There may have been a few secrets buried under the rocks, but the one who was resilient and determined enough to dig for it, deserved them. Lithia thought she saw Vesper cast her a questioning glance to which the Napier explained, ”Let’s just say I’m observant.”

Then the Napier daughter stepped onto one of the rather larger clumps of rock, and continued to head closer towards the weakly standing pillars way towards the end of the island.
