louder, louder, louder

Magpie, small and dark-furred, had escaped the watchful eyes of Molca, who was meant to be babysitting the young pups of Inferni's Centurion – and were she older than she was, she might have felt guilty about slipping away unannounced. Guilt was for adults, though. The id merely wanted, and this is what drove the pup away from the watcher and on her own. She wanted to explore, she wanted to show she was big enough to wander alone.

Of course, now she was lost.

The mansion was large, too large, much bigger than her pops and daddy were, and when she tried to explore, she found an empty room full of junk. Like a maze, she'd wandered through it – and now couldn't find her way back out. It was a miserable thing, having no good sense of direction. All the smells were mostly the same; they smelled like Inferni, which is what her family smelled like, so differentiating her way from around the junk was harder than it might be if she were a bigger girl.

What felt like hours passed, though it was much less and verged primarily on minutes instead, when she realized she was stuck. She realized she was going to be lost there forever. And wouldn't that be sad? Her pops wouldn't be able to find her! Daddy wouldn't know where she was! Oriole would miss her terribly (or so she told herself, having quite the ego)! And she wouldn't be able to teach Serenity the best way to sneak away with something shiny in her mouth!

That just wouldn't do.

Help! she cried, one of the words she knew best. Help was what you yelled when you wanted someone to come and save you from whatever it was you were doing and didn't want to do anymore. She especially liked to do it when she was bored. Someone always came running to make sure she was alright, and that gave her company, even if they didn't find it funny that she'd cried out for help when nothing was wrong.

HELP! she cried again, this time much louder. Magpie just wasn't satisfied unless the entire mansion was able to hear her at any given time.

Serenity was busy sniffing around and trying to figure out where her sister had gotten to. Magpie always seemed to know the best of places to find the most interesting things. Ren never felt confident enough to go exploring all on her own. With her sister nowhere to be found there would be nothing interesting to be gained. This thought caused Serenity to start whining. She wasn't bold enough to get into trouble on her own but could easily be talked into joining someone else.

It seemed almost as if in response to her whining she heard her sister's voice. "Daddy! Daddy, sissy!" The girl ran over to where her father could be found and nosed at him in order to gain his attention. Cartier looked up from where he was sifting through furs to get rid of those that would no longer prove to be usable. He needed to know how many had to be replaced so he could know what to hunt for in order to take the pelts from.

What about Magpie? He asked as he looked up from the task at hand. Before his question could be answered by the daughter in the room with him it was the cry for help of his other daughter that told him all that he needed to know. Hang on baby! I'm coming! The male quickly left behind what he was working on in order to get up and seek out his missing daughter.

Serenity was at her father's heels as he took off and went in search of Magpie. The duo ended up finding the girl in a room full of junk, Serenity running right up to her sister and licking all over her face to make sure she was okay while Cartier cleared a path for the pups to get out. Where is Molca? Cartier asked when he noticed that the sitter wasn't present and attending to his child.

Magpie didn't have to wait long. No sooner had she cried for help did she receive a response: daddy was on his way. Oh, she did love her daddy, and it made her tail thump around in the junk as she waited for him to come to her rescue. It was Serenity who truly checked on her well-being, at least physically; Cartier had a vantage point the little girls did not, and so Magpie snuffled at her sister's fur, unhurt and happy to have someone to be entertained by once again.

But then daddy asked after Molca. Oh, Molca, who Magpie had escaped. She was probably worried – after all, one doesn't lose a puppy and not become worried, especially not one as charming as Magpie Trouillefou. Dunno, was her answer, and it was truth. She had no idea where Molca had ended up. She had simply wanted to explore on her own, to be entertained without being hovered over by the quiet lady who watched she and her siblings.

Her tail thumped against the ground while she disengaged from her sister, toppling over junk to get to her daddy's feet. Hi! she cried, her volume control poor. Nonexistent even. She wanted to be heard, and she was determined to make sure it happened, especially by her serious daddy.

Serenity continued to whine as she licked a her sister, worrying over Magpie. With her sister out of sight some part of the coyote pup thought that her sister was never to return again. She was still getting used to how others could disappear from sight and not end up being gone forever. Daddy continued to come back whenever he left, not that she saw him leave too often but just woke up to him being gone. But Magpie was different than Daddy, Magpie didn't disappear in the dark. Her sister was there when she would wake up, unlike Daddy, so Magpie disappearing on her was worrisome.

She should be watching over you. I'm going to have to have a talk with her. Cartier sighed out as he worked on moving items out of the way so that his daughters would have a clear path through which to exit the room. You need to be careful with going into places like this. Something could fall on you and you could get hurt. Once he got most of the larger things out of the way the coydog puppy escaped. It is not safe to play in here.

When the pup came to be settled at his feet he knelt down to be closer to her level. Hi there baby. He ruffled the fur between her ears with a hand. What do you say we get out of here? I heard that the rabbits have kits we can go look at. He figured that if he gave the pup something else to do she would more readily agree to going with him and leaving the room behind. Want to go see the babies? I was told they don't look like rabbits at all. The kits were only a few days old which meant they hadn't had time to grow some down yet. Maybe you can give them some names and then you can tell Papa all about them.

The presence of Serenity was comforting, though the young pup hadn't been afraid – or she'd never admit to such a thing. She returned the affection she was receiving, rubbing herself against the coyote sister her daddy had brought home, not aware that they weren't related by blood. Cartier's words entered her ears and bounced around, and perhaps the dark-furred pup should have felt bad for getting Molca in trouble by running off, but she ... well, she didn't. Guilt was not a thing that the pup was capable of processing just yet.

And after her father was done chastising her, he spoke of something fun: baby rabbits. Oh, she loved the rabbits! She loved watching them bounce around, and wished she could do the same. Yah! she cried, her enthusiasm overflowing at the prospect of seeing something new. And she would get to name them, oh, that was just the frosting on top of the cake.

He was glad when Magpie quickly agreed to his suggestion. But then he had dangled an interesting prospect in front of her so he shouldn't have expected anything else. All he had to do was offer Oriole to let him help out with whatever Cartier chose to do in order to get his agreement. All Magpie needed was the promise of an adventure. If that adventure ended in something shiny to be had then all the better for it.

I'm going to beat you. He said as he got up and headed out of the room. He didn't move too quickly so that the girls would be able to catch up with him, and even pass him should they choose to do so. Serenity at least chose to do so. "Mon sissy! Daddy no beat!" She encouraged Magpie to slip out in front of Cartier, emboldened by the likelihood that Magpie would agree that Cartier couldn't be allowed to beat them.

Eventually the hutch out in the back of D'Neville Mansion's yard was reached. Do you see them? Cartier asked as he peered inside at where the rabbits were contained. He was trying to seek out the naked forms of the young that had to be hidden inside the nesting material somewhere. Ren reared up on her hind legs and placed her forepaws against the side of the structure to try and see inside, having to extend and stretch her neck out to get a glimpse. "They hiding." She informed anyone who was listening to her. She even glanced to see who was paying attention to her before she barked at the rabbits that were contained within the closed off part of the hutch. "Mon out so I sees ju!" She called to the rabbits and fully expected them to listen to her.
