For Songbird & Malus ~ early afternoon.

The sun beat down on her back from the sky, and from where she currently walked, there was no shade for miles. Well, no shade if she wanted to continue moving. Luckily, the weather was cooling down and the sun's rays were more soothing than they were overbearing. Even out there with all the freedom in the world, she was still tethered to her work back in Anathema. Her master - god she hated calling him that – blackmailed her. Instead of controlling her by force, he took what was most valuable to her and hid them. Hid them from her so that she’d never find them. He had done it at first to test the waters, and over the past year, his hypothesis proved true. She refused to truly leave without her mother’s ring and necklace. She couldn’t.

And that made her truly the angriest out of all of it. The work annoyed her; the gullible little Anathemans that tried to make conversation with her made her livid; her status pissed her off; but nothing quite made her mad like thinking about her mother’s jewels tucked away in one of Lukos’ keepsake boxes for leverage.

That’s what those pieces of her mother had become? Leverage? She had hung on to them so tight for memories, for support, to keep her mother alive in her soul, but her mother was just as alive as her own soul at that point. She wasn’t very alive, and that was mainly because she couldn’t enjoy the special connection she had with her mother’s items. She hadn’t seen them since her capture.

And she had tried to locate them with Lukos out of the house. She tore that house apart looking for them, only to learn that Lukos takes them with him whenever he goes out. And she knew she could take him if she wanted to… it was just that she never quite hoped it would come to that. That, and she wanted to keep her knowledge of where he kept them a secret until she could make her break for it – leaving him ignorant that she took the items from him.

She preferred it that way.

Her tongue lolled from the side of her mouth as she carried on, looking for some kind of food to take down and take home. Home. What a fickle term. It wasn’t her home of choice, but that’s what it was to her for now. Fucking home. Lifting her nose up to the air, she looked for something of interest, something to take her mind off of everything. There wasn’t prey around, but she did smell something rather… interesting. Green eyes scanned the trees that lined the stretching meadows for miles.

MALUS REINHART
Optime [ 000 ]

Life had been rather pleasant for the Pollux since he had joined the Shores as a free man. He could go about as he pleased, do what he wanted, just like he had before Anathema had rudely come down upon him and his group. It was better, in fact, as he had a pack’s protection at his back, and there was never any worry about when or where his next meal would come from. No leftovers, no guarding carcasses, it was nice.

When Skana had first claimed him, he had thought the worst of her. As it turned out though, he had, perhaps, been the luckiest of his crew to have her as his “master.” Even to this day, she treated him well, and her children amused him so. Vepar was still a stickler about past grievances though, and Skana’s mate, Sully, seemed on the fence still, knowledgeable of Malus’ past, but, also knowing his wife’s friendship with the cream-coated wolf. It bothered him less and less with each passing day.

The Reinhart had traveled to the mainland earlier that day prior in search of animals to use for leather and fur pieces rather than depleting the numbers that lived locally on the island. His search had been quiet successful, and his bag was nearly full with a sizeable stock to work with. He just needed a few more, and then he could return home to finish his work. Saleos had been asking about trying his hand at the art, and Malus would have more than enough hares to spare for a beginner to the trade.

He readjusted the strap of the bag on his shoulder as he moved through the maze of twisted roots and tree trunks. He was equipped with a belt that held two knives; one for gutting, and the other for added protection. Malus had no worry that someone might attack him, as he was a large, male wolf. The coyotes, perhaps, could get frisky, but, he’d been sure to give the clan a wide girth to prevent himself from becoming an unwitting target of such prejudice attacks.

Malus came to a halt as he reached the edge of the tree line. Before him lay the large meadow that made up Drifter’s Bay, and, with it, lack of any coverage or ways to conceal a Luperci traversing in their Optime form. He considered turning back, uninterested in a frustrating attempt to catch a hare or otherwise in such open land, when something caught his eye. His seafoam gaze scrutinized the expanse, and found a lone figure standing out in the midst of it.

Likely trouble, but he took a sniff anyway. It was feminine, and the familiarity of it, combined with the scent of Anathema caused Malus to start. “Szenne?!” He barked, breaking from the protection of the woodland and cautiously striding towards the figure.

They were smaller than he was, but, there was no mistake that they were a wolf and not a stray coyote. They had dark hair, and the swirl of dark and tawny markings were not something he would have forgotten—even after nearly a year apart—not after how much time he’d spent committing the ally’s form and figure to memory when the group of loners had only had each other to rely on. It had to be her. But, what was she doing out here?

I think I might've mentioned something about their relationship that I've dreamed up? Basically, she looks up to him for guidance. Szenne idolizes Malus to no end, almost to the point that she might actually be in love with him (one-sidedly, of course). If you want more details on this ~ shoot me a PM ! :)

She scanned the trees for that… smell. That familiar smell. At first, there was nothing. Nothing for miles, as it would seem. Nothing that would smell like him anyway. And then there he was coming towards her like a delusion in the desert. Szenne blinked, squeezing her eyes shut and forcing them open. Was it a dream? Was it real? She hadn’t seen or heard anything of Malus since he left Anathema a year ago. All of a sudden she’d find him in a damn clearing?

Still, she found herself striding towards him, too. She hadn’t even thought to grab her weapon. This was no mistake. This was him. Malus, their leader. Her rock. The one she needed when she was unsure. The one she needed to pick her back up when she was down. The one she needed to be there to tell her what she already knew. When they met, they clashed like an opposing wave, and Szenne grabbed him up in a tight bear hug.

”Ya have no idea how much I’ve missed ya,” she murmured into his scruff. She didn’t want to let go. She knew, at some point, she’d have to let go and they would have to depart, but not yet. Oh, god, please not yet. She’d follow Malus to the ends of the earth, and she’d hope he wouldn’t mind, but also she wouldn’t care. He’d know what to tell her to do. He’d know how to get her out of her predicament.

But first, they focus on the now.

Szenne finally let him go after a few seconds too long. She let him go and she stepped back, taking in his form and taking in him. He looked much healthier than his last step into Anathema territory. A lot healthier and a lot happier.

She was at a loss for the words and yet those same words bubbled inside of her, trying to escape – but which words first?
