OOC: Anyone want to interact with a sick Janik?

IC:

It had been a miserable week for the dog, starting with a stiffness in his muscles, and a malaise that only grew with every day. The coughing fits had become more intense, but mercifully not constant, only enough to expel the congestion that seemed to never stay gone. He didn't really have a choice but to continue being active though, his stores of dried food not plentiful enough to just lay in his bed until he felt better.

Janik was slower getting to one of his favorite hunting spots, sore muscles less than helpful when it came to travel, and had doubts that he wouldn't scare off any prey with his coughing fits. The sun already beyond it's highest point, even if the gloomy weather made it hard to tell that, angry clouds threatening to rain down on the miserable male at any moment. He'd brought his cloak though, and made a point to stick relatively close to the ruins of Amherst, more options to escape potential rains there, than in the trees that he intended to find a plump rabbit.

In truth, his stomach didn't crave food, Janik had been forcing himself to eat something each day though. Only once or twice losing some of it afterward, an experience that he dreaded happening again. With his sense of smell hampered, Janik was forced to hunt primarily by sight, looking for any signs of a rabbit, or some other small animal to take down with his readied bow. He went like that for tens of minutes, until fortune smiled on him, a trail of soft imprints in the muddy ground promising a path toward some small critter.

His luck did not last for long, only a few steps taken alongside the trail, before the overwhelming urge to cough took him. Janik loudly announcing his presence in the process, going on for a few moments with an intensity that had him nearly dropping his bow on the mud. The male only becoming relatively silent once he'd hacked the stuff up, and gotten rid of it on the forest floor. "Damn it..." Janik growled to himself, mentally weighing the small chance of finding anything, and the prospect of maybe just going back home to rest.

(000) Hallo! Hope you don't mind I pop in with creepy, sicky Izzy! :D

The rains brought sickness, and with sickness everything came to a tainted level that Izual didn’t appreciate. It seemed as though everything in the immediate area had some sort of sickness. The prey they caught and ate wound up giving them this bug, which they passed off to their friends and pack mates through coughing and sneezing fits. The air. That wasn’t helping either. The wind blew whatever little monsters that came out of a previous hosts’ mouth into the mouth of another. Izual had been sure he wouldn’t get sick, but even as he still tried to believe he wasn’t, there was an incessant tingle in his head.

A cacophony of hacks piqued his interest as the brute lurked through the trees. At this point, there was no reason to keep a distance. It was clear that everyone was feeling the heavy effects of the rains, the sickness. He wouldn’t be able to escape it.

He approached the other – a white Wolf from the looks of it – and leaned against a slick tree a few feet away from him. ”Sounds like you’r—“ he attempted to say, but instead was seized by a sneezing fit. SSssHT! SsssSSHT! SSsssSHT! SSssssSSHT! SSssSHT! Every breath he took resulted in a new brain-tickle and a new reason to sneeze. He didn’t recovering until there was a gob of yellow mucus running down his maw that he simply licked away. The salty taste sat upon his tongue until the squishy liquid slid down his throat. ”Sounds like you’re sick,” he said quickly, clearing his throat. Apparently he was feeling it more than he wanted to admit.

With no way to tell when his next coughing fit would strike him, Janik was gradually accepting that his chances of a successful hunt were likely to remain very low, at least until he got over whatever sickness had latched onto him. The idea to just return to the fort and be miserable for a few more days was gaining traction within his mind, but before he could actually settle on the decision, a stranger made themselves known. It shouldn't have been too surprising for the dog, coughing up a storm was bound to attract some sort of attention, but his expression was indeed surprised by the sudden approach of a larger male.

The white furred male's surprise only grew when the stranger's first words became silenced by their own sick sounding sneezing, and was joined by faint disgust at how the coyote handled the aftermath of mucus running from their maw. ”Ya, and it looks like I'm no the only one...” Janik responded quickly enough, his green eyes looking the other male over, wondering silently if their disease was the same one that he had. More importantly, could he somehow catch a double dose of the nasty illness that had him coughing all the time.

”Don't think I've seen you around before, out here hunting as well?” Janik added in an attempt to find out what their intentions might be, but also revealing why he had been wandering the area. Not that a loner hunting on unclaimed lands was anything to be secretive about. Once he'd finished, Janik acted as though he might cough again, but managed to stop himself, and at least put off the inevitable coughing fit for a few moments, maybe minutes if he was lucky. ”You a loner?”

As much as he wanted to hide his well-being from the prying eyes of others, the tingle in his nose continued, and he attempted to avoid it by breathing through his mouth instead. It seemed to be working for the moment, although he looked like a panting fool.

He had wanted to call the man something smart like Mr. Obvious, but instead he held his tongue. The same could have been said about him not moments before. They were both sick – whoop-dee-doo.

”Mmm… hunting… Yeah, you can call it that,” Izual answered roughly, clearing phlegm from his throat. He sniffled, and swallowed. He couldn’t seem to get a reading on the male in terms of scent – but when did who he chose for prey really matter anyway? This Luperci’s flesh would taste fine – sickness or not, pack or not. ”A loner, yeah.” Neither of Izual’s answers had seemed very convincing, but he didn’t seem to care.

”You?” Just to keep the conversation flowing while he got a better reading on him.

Janik was always a little bit wary of strangers, it was far too easy for them to be scheming in one fashion or another, and without a pack to limp back to, injuries were hardly something he could afford to deal with. It was that wariness that helped the wolf dog notice just how unconvincing the replies to his questions seemed to be at face value, but being unconvincing wasn't exactly irrefutable proof that the stranger couldn't be trusted. ”If you're hunting, you're hunting... Why would I call it something else?” Janik responded after a brief moment to both consider their words, and think of what they might be doing that could only distantly be called hunting.

With his own sense of smell shot, confirming, or denying their claim to being a loner was probably impossible. Not that he expected a pack Luperci to deny their affiliation, being in a group tended to mean protection, a threat of retaliation if they were attacked. A brief coughing fit took Janik mid thought, stirring the troubling memory of being warned about a pack that took slaves, something that would have fit both of the unconvincing answers that he had been given. A slaver out hunting slaves probably wouldn't be very open about his intentions, especially if they were from a pack known for the practice.

Heightened suspicions didn't mean evidence though, certainly not enough to draw an arrow in his bow, maybe enough to not turn his back on the other male. If not for that stirring paranoia, Janik would have probably just admitted to being a loner then and there, but he instead gave a vague response ”I live up north from here, quite a few living up that way too, it's nicer having friendly faces around. Wonder why ya haven't found yourself in a pack, surely there's one around that would take ya?”. It was true that he lived to the north, that there were others living not so far from where he lived, but he didn't have any friendly faces around every time he went to sleep.

(200+) Izual’s gross

As the other male questioned his answer about his current activities, Izual smiled viciously. He advanced towards the wolf, holding out a hand intending to caress the side of the white-furred man’s face. ”Could it really still be called ‘hunting’ when its your own kind that’s on the menu?” he purred. If his advancement had been blocked, he would have remained standing there, looking at Janik like a hungry welp.

Turning his head to the side suddenly, he sneezed violently. When he turned back, there was a string of bloody snot dripping from his nose, down onto his chin, and then his chest, nestling into the red fur there. It stretched and bubbled when he grinned, tucking itself snugly under the flap of his lips. A pink tongue slid from his mouth, licking most of it away, but he didn’t seem to notice it had dripped onto him elsewhere.

A small driblet of the mucous still swung from his chin. ”Maybe I don’t want to be taken in… I like being able to hunt,” the driblet broke away, soaring through the air towards Janik, and Izual advanced another step. ”…what I want, where I want. Don’t you?” Not that the man would have any favorable opinions on cannibalism or hunting his own comrades to the death.

Janik had started to grow uneasy from the other male's presence, their own signs of sickness far too obvious for the wolf dog's tastes, causing him to cringe a little whenever they would act on a sneeze, or their runny nose. It was during one of those involuntary efforts to avert his gaze from the disgusting display, that they advanced on him, catching him off guard with an unsettling caress of his face. Even without the chilling words that accompanied the gesture, Janik wouldn't have liked the other canine's touch, lacking the sort of interest toward his own sex that might have kept him in place. Instead, he stepped backward, a silent snarl quickly displacing any other expression on his face, instinct causing him to draw his knife.

If he hadn't changed since his youth, Janik would probably have stepped forward, attempted to plunge the weapon into the stranger for being creepy toward him. Janik wasn't that person any more however, and so he just stood out of reach, the knife held for defense, rather than to attack. The other male was bigger than he was, a fight wouldn't have been in his favor anyways. ”Better not be getting any weird ideas, coyote. I'm not a deer, and I don't like other men touching me like that...” Janik snapped, his voice still steady, but tinted with not so subtle anger in each word.

”If you're looking for prey, you're better off finding some that doesn't have teeth anyways...” the male added, hoping to discourage the direction that things had seemed to suddenly accelerate toward. He found it reprehensible that the stranger might actually have a habit of hunting Luperci, but he wasn't such a hero that he was willing to try an stick his neck out to stop them, made obvious by his slow back pedaling to try putting more distance between them again.

Izual wasn’t any sort of bisexual or homosexual, but sometimes he did it for the reaction, for the jeer. He never went as far as touching another Luperci’s junk or kissing… just creepily offering his hand to break the boundaries of others. ”Touching you like what?” he asked, as if he had not understood what kind of advancement he just made. ”Like this?” And he attempted again, only this time attempting to rake his claws over the man’s white-furred arm – maybe a little too roughly.

Charlie liked it when he was rough anyway.

”Oh, but the teeth make it so much more fun,” he purred, lurching forward toward the man again, even as the other made efforts to keep the distance between them. There was a knife drawn in the mix, but that didn’t matter much to the lunatic coyote. ”I don’t expect you to know anything about that, though. You look like you stick to a boring diet.”

The strange male was easily the most troubling Luperci that he'd had to interact with in a long while, the other man's interest in him carrying both violent, and unnerving undertones. It was hard for Janik to really ascertain whether they wanted to actually consume him, some weird cannibal, or if they wanted to do something even more disturbing to the dog. He'd never needed to fend off another male's advances, and the new experience was far from a pleasant one for Janik, a little bit of fear mixing with his growing anger at the direction the encounter had started to go.

When the coyote didn't take his warnings seriously, and reached out to touch him a second time, Janik flinched at the rake of claws along his arm, just roughly enough that he could imagine thin red welts forming beneath his white fur as a result. ”Yes, like that!” Janik snapped, slashing at the air in an effort to warn them off, while doubling his efforts to put distance between himself and the other male. It was possible that he'd win a fight with the coyote, Janik wasn't a helpless pup, but he dreaded what losing might entail.

Being eaten was one thing, dying a risk that he'd taken before, but something far worse in Janik's eyes had been hinted at. Better to run, than risk finding himself pinned beneath another male, the dark thought that he might be killed after anyways spurring him to slash at the air one last time, before bolting as quickly as he could manage. He'd left some of his arrows on the ground, but they could be replaced, maybe recovered after a few days, or however long it took him to get over being sick. All of that assumed of course, that he'd be faster than the larger male, and his endurance wasn't more compromised than theirs by the sickness.

(200+) you determine what happens next - perhaps you wrap it up?

The air was tense between the two males. Izual was imposing, and Janik was withdrawing, trying desperately to put distance between he and Izual. The white wolfdog slashed at the air, requiring Izual to duck backwards to avoid being hit in the face, but once that paw full of claws flew by, Izual made to close the space between them again.

It hadn’t occurred to him that Janik had it all wrong. Izual hadnt been coming onto him for sex - he wanted to kill and eat him. Wolfdog was just the same as any wolf he had eaten before, and Izual assumed it would taste just the same. He wanted to wear the male’s blood, bathe in as much of it as he could. Perhaps the warm blood would chase his symptoms away, perhaps it was a secret remedy that Izual had never thought of before…

A second paw swiped out before him, causing Izual to duck back out of the way just in time, but when he attempted to close the distance, the wolfdog bolted.

”Three… two… one,” Izual counted, and once he reached one, he, too, followed the white wolfdog. It would only be a matter of chance that Izual would catch up to him – snotty and wheezing as he was. This would be a slow chase, and the winner depended on who was more sick.

Izual felt his lungs swelling up, felt the wheeze choke him out. He coughed – a bit of phlegm flying out from his mouth, and then rest of it being sucked back into his lungs. He stumbled to the ground, hacking and choking while he tried to clear the phlegm from his windpipe.
