Alyssum de Fonte
but it's a swiftly setting sun that sets the skies alight

If the fights, from the physical contest of hand-to-hand to the display of swordsmanship, had excited the children, the trip to the Court must have set flight to their little hearts. When Alyssum had told them what they were doing a few hours beforehand, they were stunned into silence for only a few moments, and the rest of the evening was spent with them talking non-stop about the event that was to come. When they finally left, their topic of conversation instantly switched to the classical question of if they were there yet. But, their questions dwindled into quietness soon enough as they drank in the scenery around them as the Cavaliers and Courtiers made their way to Miracles. It was a rare occasion to leave the Fort, but to go to a whole new pack? It was beyond their dreams.

The mother even expected them to be up all night, but once they had settled down in their sleeping quarters, they were asleep in no time, tuckered out by the trip. Needless to say, they awoke early, prodding and poking as soon as the first ray of light had shone into the room. Alyssum rose with a smile, and decided to let the pups take a look around the area that the Cavaliers were allowed to be in, but time flew by too quickly for the family, and the morning went, the archery contest exciting for all of them (though the pups found it a little slow compared to the flashy battles the previous days had provided). It would be a while until the horse races would take place, which the children were definitely eager to see, so they took to strolling around the general area once more.

The Luna watched her children closely as they tumbled about a yard away from her, stopping for a second to sniff at something or to look at it more closely before stumbling along once more. She had kept on the purple dress from the previous days as well as the bear fur cloak, but the latter was more for warmth from the chill than to single out her position within her pack. They were near the stables, and the children proclaimed that they wanted to go see the horses, but Alyssum gently denied them.

"Why not?" Annabeth repeated again, drawling out her vowels as she looked up at her mother with a somewhat pleading gaze. "Because we'll get to see them very soon," she answered, her voice soft but stern. She was more worried that the children would cause a racket; such actions would not have been minded much at home, but now that they were guests, she was a bit more reserved with what she allowed her children to stick their noses into. The three let out a half-hearted moan at the answer; soon was forever from now!

There was still some things left to do. In the days previous, the stables had been worked on by the Marshall, who Silvano had to admit was doing a fantastic job. Still, he had felt obligated to come and help out, mostly with menial chores as he was not really associated with the stables and ceded all responsibility of the place to the head of the stables and racetrack. Alder was doing a great job and he was happy to see his 'cousin' enjoying himself here. Were they not like cousins? Since Anu and Savina had been so close to one another, and Anu had been much like an aunt to him? Yes, that must be the way of it, even if Alder felt differently now.

As the archery contest had finished in an astounding victory that surprised most of them, Silvano was happy for a long break between contests simply to recuperate after having to be in front of so many people for so long. Being on display was not his favorite thing; he liked to work quietly in the background and these public appearances tested his emotions at times, reclusive a person as he was. Heritage, however, had rather enjoyed the attention. The young stallion's ego had to be getting the better of him for certain, as he was definitely strutting more and more with a cocky attitude.

There would come a day when the man would truly put the horse through his paces and show him that he was not the best yet, and still had plenty to learn. That would show him. What a petty relationship the two had, it was quite odd. Silvano had no treats to give to the horse as all the fresh food was no longer viable or gone. And there was nothing that the stallion really deserved, as he had been a cocky little shite.

Yet as he approached the stables in his crimson cloak the man spied a figure in a bearskin cloak with little figures bounding around. The closer he got, the more he realzed that it was the woman his uncle had taken for a mate, the first after his own aunt had separated from him and left for Italy with the rest of the Marino's. "Alyssum, hello," he called as soon as he saw her, putting on a smile after clearing his head with a deep breath. He saw the children running about and smiled at his 'cousins', since they were Jazper's children anyway. "How are you enjoying the Court?"

Alyssum de Fonte
but it's a swiftly setting sun that sets the skies alight

She grinned as her children moaned; she did not find pleasure in their disappointment, but more because their reactions were endearing to her. Everything they did were endearing, really. One of them could have sneezed ungracefully and she would be so easily swoon by it still. She parted her mouth to tease them, but before she could breath out anything, a somewhat familiar voice called out from a short distance away, and the four stopped to see whom it was. It took Alyssum a moment to realize who it was, but within the heartbeat she returned his call, "Good afternoon, Silvano!" She took a few steps forward to where the man was as the children ran ahead, squealing, "The King! The King, mama!" Maybe they could find pleasure in his company instead of yearning for the horses.

She did not know much about the Sadira man, other than he was once ago a Dreamer and one of Jazper's relatives through Ghita, and the few times they had talked before during formal meetings. But, while she did not know much about him, he was a nice enough gentleman, and was always pleasant to talk to whenever the moment arose. The children, though, seemed more excited to see him than anyone else in the world. "It's big!" Valerie answered him before Alyssum could, running up to him but stopped about a yard away, tail flailing wildly behind her as her siblings stood beside her. "Huh-uh! And it smells weird!" Alexander added, though his words were not meant to be taken as an offense; the mother flashed a nervous smile to the King, hoping that he knew that her son was remarking that it smelled different than their home. She knew he was the father to two boys, so he must have knew how pups could get.

Before Annabeth could add something, who knows what would come out of the girl's mouth, though she doubted it was anything malicious, Alyssum stated, looking down at the children as they stared up at the King, "I think we're all enjoying the Court just fine. Right?" "Huh-uh, yeah, yep!" "It's a honor to us that you invited us to stay for a few days." Easily catching onto the hint, the children piped up their agreement and announced their thanks. The Luna looked away from the kids and gave him a more calm smile than before. "But, really, we are having a good time. It's such a beautiful place. I was just taking them out to look around until the horse race starts."

"Ask the King if he ever beated a dragon before, mama," Alexander whispered as he moved back to Alyssum, which she responded with a smile. "By the way, have you slain any dragons lately? Maybe done away with some trolls?" The two girls immediately gave out a loud sound, and half asked, half demanded, "Yeah, tell us! Were they big?"

He was swarmed by little children. Silvano's brows raised up as he saw the children coming at him with their mother right on their heels. An inquisitive bunch she had here, and what a handful it had to have been if Jazper's energy levels were any indication. The man beamed down at his 'cousins', knowing that it was highly unlikely that they would ever even see him that way as they had no shared blood at all between the lot of them. They would probably not know him as anything more than a family friend, but maybe they would come to think of him as a cousin. Still the man beamed at them and their mother, bobbing his head at her.

He laughed at their childish commentary, remembering the way his own boys were at so young and tender an age, though that was hardly all that long ago. The two would be shifting soon, hopefully, though worries floated on about Pascal and whatever it was that was wrong with him. Eugene, though, would soon join the ranks of the adults and begin to work toward his goal - and probably more Silvano's goal - of becoming a Knight and a protector of the land. Meanwhile, the man leaned over a bit to loom over the oddly proportioned puppies, hands pressed on his thighs. "Well your home smells funny too. Smells like cabbage and salty fish." Silvano wrinkled his nose at the puppies though he sent a wink to Alyssum to let her know it was all in good fun. He honestly had no idea what cabbage smelled like; he had only really heard of it in books.

The woman his uncle had chosen thanked him for the privalege of staying in his home and he just rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. He really was never quite good at this sort of thing, and was quite happy that it was all a private and casual affair at the moment. "Oh, it's really nothing. It's the only smart thing to do, and it does help split up the Tournament effort between us pretty evenly. The ball's only being held here since we have the ballroom ready to go and in prime condition." Obviously this was directed toward the woman and not her children. To them he said, "And thank you for coming along. It is a much more fun bunch of contests with you here." He loved children, it was quite strange; he had never thought himself a family man until Giselle had told him they were expecting. Everything sort of kicked into gear for him then.

Maw split wide, teeth showing in his grin, the man heard the pup's question and then shook his head in amusement when Alyssum repeated it for him. A dragon? Oh, the imaginations of children. "Oh yes. Two, actually. They were twins." He looked pointedly at the two girls who seemed very much alike. "Each stole something special from us and I went to get it back. I had full metal armor with gold and rubies and my sword glowed. And after I slayed them, I made a wagon from their bones." It might have been a little bit graphic but it was an innocent jest, since dragons weren't real. "I returned what was lost and we had a feast for a thousand days." A thousand days was three some years in their lifespans, a good quarter or fifth. "But no, no trolls. We could go looking for trolls near the river, if you're so interested. I'm sure we would find something to interest." He rose from the way he was leaning, sighing as his bones reluctantly returned to position. "Maybe find something shiny to preoccupy excitable minds," he added to the Luna, smiling wearily at her. Yes, he did know just how tiring it was to be a father, even just a father of two and two very quiet boys to boot.

congrats on the win. ;3 8k for me, let's do this!! sosu: 668
Alyssum de Fonte
but it's a swiftly setting sun that sets the skies alight

All three squealed their disagreement as the King stated that their home smelled like those things. "Doesn't smell like cabbiggies! Home smells like pretty and fresh!" Valerie stated matter of factly, while Alexander gave a slightly blank look and glanced up at Alyssum. "What's a cabbiggie?" he asked tentatively, seeming as if he was rather unsure if he wanted to know what it was. After all, by the scrunched up face of the King when it mentioned it made it seemed that whatever it was, it must have smelled pretty bad! "Cabbage, sweetheart, and it's a vegetable." Alex gave a small, uneasy "oh", while the girls let out a collective "ew!" when their mother mentioned the blasphemous word. "Veggies!" Valerie said with playful disgust, her face wrinkling at the thought of leafy greens; they all had bad experienced with the food, their minds going back to that winter day.

A pile of steamed spinach leaves with a side of rabbit. Three unwilling test subjects. Many protests, and finally, a compromise of rabbit, sans spinach. Needless to say, Alyssum wasn't much of a fancy cooker.

Alyssum grinned as she noticed his slight awkwardness at her many thanks, and she would have told him to relax a little and loosen up a bit, but she decided not to call him out on it. Perhaps she saw him as a bit stiff, but only because she was a very lax person to begin with; even as an alpha in the presence of another, she was fairly flexible, though she never left behind the respectable formalities whenever they were needed. She nodded as he gave the technical reason why they were there, the children not paying attention as much to the words as they didn't seem interesting, and more important, not directed at them. But, after a moment or two it seemed that they were being spoken to themselves, and they beamed as they received the compliment. There was not any need for the Luna to encourage the children to show their gratitude as they said their thanks, one bowing and the other two mimicking the motion as well. Their manners were still yet to be defined, but they were getting the handle of it.

Alexander's question was repeated, though Alyssum was sure that the man had heard it the first time by the way he grinned. Ever since that day at the library, they were all taken by the idea of dragons, and the boy seemed to be more taken by the scaled beasts than the girls. As he affirmed that he had won over not one dragon, but two, they were in complete rapture at what he said next. They were enchanted by his tale—their eyes, she imagined, filled with shining armor and deadly fires as he slayed them. Alyssum was not particularly worried about his details; it was all pretend, and she knew that they liked the details, no matter how vivid they could be at times. It would only excite them even more about it. As Silvano stated that he had made a wagon, and that they ate for thousands of days, their little jaws dropped. Why couldn't they have a feast like that?

He said at first that he had not fought any trolls, and at first the kids seemed a little crestfallen, but! The King continued speaking, and as they were invited to go troll hunting—looking for trolls with a dragon slayer!—they could no refuse his offer. "I wanna ride the bone wagon! Can we, can we?" Annabeth asked insistently, her younger siblings joining in on the chorus of riding in the wagon as Silvano bent himself straight. She return a knowing smile to his worn one, and she stated, "We'll have to find out about that—they can be hard to satisfy at times." But, she wouldn't have it any other way; she loved all her children dearly, and no matter how excited they got, she couldn't stop loving them any less.
