Optime | Backdated: June 15nd; early morning | pNPC: Howland, NPC: Agrona (+463)

Lemme know if the date needs changing! I just chose a random date after he joined and before the July stuff. Also, I know I mention that Teagan is looking to go on a patrol throughout this post, but, that was the only thing I could think of for her standing around unoccupied with something xD She’d be more than happy to just show Everett around instead

It was uncomfortably muggy for a summer morning. Dew coated the flora and nearly every surface it could cling to. The wood and old brick and stone work that comprised the many buildings of the fort looked like they had been doused in a passing rain storm. However, they had only been dampened overnight with the sudden falling land temperatures and from the moisture carried from the nearby sea. The sun sat low on the horizon, its warm rays stretching lazily over the treetops and out into the early morning sky. It would be some time before it rose high enough that it could dry up the dew.

But it was not fast enough for the Stryder though.

Ever the early riser, Teagan was ready to get her usual routine started with. Her first order of chores had been completed, the next item on her agenda being a patrol around the pack’s grounds. She had opted out of taking her horse, Apollo, with her for the outing. She had worked with him the previous day, so, it meant going out with her falcon this morning. Agrona perched readily on the fort wall, waiting for her partner’s signal to move out.

Teagan herself stood patiently at the fort’s entrance, her canary eyes searching like a hawk for her next victim. It wasn’t often that she sought company for one of her patrols, but, for whatever reason, she felt like being sociable that morning. Howland stood opposite of her, arms crossed with his glaive resting against his shoulder. Neither of them spoke to one another, having gotten their pleasantries said when Teagan had first arrived at the gate. Teagan other priorities—finding a patrol partner—and Howland had never been much for small talk anyways.

She was garbed in her usual gear; an off-white tunic, a falconer’s glove taken from supplies covering one hand, and a belt with her short sword attached to it. Her hair had been tied up into a high ponytail to keep it out of her face.

The warrior princess had yet to find anyone leaving or milling about at the hour that wasn’t preoccupied with something or another. Isaac had come by and teased her, but, he had had plans already on checking his snares for fresh meat for breakfast for any hungry Cavaliers. The butcher had promised to set aside something for the Officer when she eventually found her way back into the fort later. Aside from him, Howland, and the few Cavaliers that had risen with the sun, the fort was still relatively quiet.

Shifting her weight onto one hip, Teagan decided to give it another five minutes before she and Agrona would simply go on the patrol on their lonesome.

OOC435

Pale light streamed into Everett's room, despite the early hour. The furs and blankets the male used for sleeping were tangled about his lower body, or else strewn untidily about his room. His chest rose and fell imperceptibly, whilst the flesh of his pawpads was slicked with sweat. The man twitched in his sleep, his brows lowered and ears flat against his skull. Whilst still dreaming, Everett thrashed against an invisible assailant and rolled onto the floor of his room. Pale eyes flickered open to view the world upside-down. He reached a hand to shade his eyes and rub his thumb and fingers against the headache that was forming there. It had happened again.

After his morning routine of washing and preening, the silver male decided a walk was in order to clear his mind. Everett scented fresh rain upon the air, as he admired the glitter of dew upon stone and wood. A hand rose to press his skin into the soothing dampness of a wall that had stood since who knew when's time. In the few weeks he had been a Cavalier, the sturdy walls and buildings of the pack had comforted him. In one aspect they recalled the structures of his former life, although he was grateful to find the similarities ended there. A shift in the winds brought the smell of seasalt, fresh and tangy, to his nose. Everett perked a brow at the idea of searching for the coast, and tucked it away into the recesses of his thoughts for the time being. He could ask Arlen about it sometime.

The thought of his copper friend appeared to bring his perfume to Everett's mind as he drew near the Fort's walls. Intrigued and cheered by the prospect of meeting Arlen, he trotted closer gate. The gentleman slowed as his orbs settled upon the impressive bulk of Howland and his equally threatening weapon. Everett tasted the air, and turned his attention upon an unfamiliar woman whom he assumed was a relative of Arlen's, judging by scent alone. The male dipped his head to both packmates and muttered a greeting. Glacial eyes discreetly studied the golden-eyed warrior, for she could not be anything else garbed as she was in practical attire. Interestingly, she wore a leather glove upon one hand that he recognised as a piece of falconer's gear. Everett placed a hand upon hip as he looked softly at the she-wolf as he addressed her,"Good morning, my name is Everett. I don't believe we've met? If you have business outside the pack, I would be pleased to help you, my lady."

She needn’t wait long before someone of possible interest appeared from the courthouse’s underbelly. It was a male, and likely a new Recruit judging by the simple fact that Teagan could not place a name to his person. His fur was a mix of silver and lighter, whiter hues; all of which, were covered by rather fancy—it was the only word she could think of to describe them—attire and other various jewelry. He was thinner and smaller than her, however, he didn’t look like he was younger than she was.

The Cavalier made a beeline for the gate, and, for a moment, Teagan wondered if he meant to speak to Howland or had business beyond the Fort’s walls. She didn’t expect his attention to turn on her. A polite greeting was offered and returned. On the Stryder’s part though, it was obvious by her stiffness that she was unsure of his intentions of confronting the two Officers.

Everett, as he introduced himself, was a much more well-mannered individual than Teagan could have expected. So surprised by this—or perhaps it was being addressed as “my lady”—she blinked. The delay was miniscule, but the male had earned the rare bragging right of having caught the warrior princess off-guard. “Teagan,” she introduced, inclining her muzzle politely in return to his introduction. “Teagan Stryder.”

Her gaze shifted to the forest beyond the Fort’s gates as she considered his offering. “Nothing outside our boundaries, no, but, rather, within them.” Agrona let out a soft chirp from her high-up perch on the wall. “My falcon, Agrona, and I were going to go on a patrol,” she explained, her canary eyes shifting back to Everett, “You could join us if you’d like.” A pause as a second idea entered her thought process. “Or, perhaps, I could show you around the territory instead?”

The small quirk of her brows told that she didn’t know exactly how new the Recruit was, or, whether, he had had the luxury to explore his new home. Either way, it would suit Teagan just fine. She would be able to check the lands for suspicious activity.

Word Count → 325 :: I'm sorry for the wait <3

He knew he must keep very still while he waited, and suppressed the doubts that threatened to surface. Blue orbs met the woman's face briefly, and then settled on the walls behind. Everett felt her stare weigh upon him heavily; whilst she appeared younger than him, her stance and bearing indicated her seniority in rank. In the stillness of his appraisal, his curled tail wagged lightly and a serene smile met his lips. The male's smile lingered mere moments, before it froze as the female introduced herself as a 'Stryder'. Could it be? His eyes widened a fraction as his jaw momentarily lowered in an elegant matter ill-befitting of the gentleman. If the female was a relative or sibling of the light-hearted Arlen, it would explain why they shared similar scents.

Teagan's voice brought Everett back to his senses as she seemed to muse over his words. The male cleared placed a hand upon his chest as he cleared his throat. Everett wondered if he had been too bold in his offer. The male was fresh blood and cut a rather meagre figure in comparison to the imposing tan and ash marked Cavalier. His ears perked forward as Teagan's raptor keened above their heads, and canted his head as she was made known to him. Everett dipped his muzzle as he intoned the falcon's name, "Agrona." Heliodor orbs shifted upon his own as the woman explained her business and the male nodded. A smile lit his features when she suggested a tour of his new home.

"That would be excellent, thank-you Teagan." While he lacked martial skill, he could perhaps still be useful in providing aid to his packmate in other ways. "Another set of eyes on the trail could not hurt." Everett gazed curiously at the lands that awaited beyond the borders. It would be a good excuse to stretch one's legs and socialise in equal measure. "Lead the way and I shall follow."

Sorry for the wait! >____< Feel free to PP Teagan moving them along so we can tour the land easier<33

Seeing the male’s still form as she inspected him was not something she was used to. For a long time, she had been the lower-ranking one. With the roles reversed, she decided the best plan of action was to pretend it hadn’t happened. Her introduction seemed to cause a stir in the man’s features, though, why, she could only guess. She highly doubted it had anything to do with her personally, meaning, it was likely her surname that had caught his attention. Either his thoughts had raced to her fierce mother, Lyris, or to her more amiable brother, Arlen. Either or, they both carried more weight to their names than her own.

Nevertheless, the Recruit seemed well-mannered and decent enough. He’d even greeted her bird; something few did, as they didn’t recognize Agrona as being on their level.

His choice was ambiguous, neither agreeing to accompanying her on a patrol or choosing to sightsee. If he’d been one of her siblings, she might have made a snarky remark. However, he was relatively new, as well, probably nervous. In the end, it meant it was up to Teagan to choose their heading. It wasn’t something to fuss about. The territory would be checked for intruders or signs of trespass either way.

“Indeed. It also helps to have another reliable body to guard your back if there’s trouble.” Teagan, always the one to put everything in a fight perspective. She offered a sharp jut of her chin to indicate which direction they would go first. Howland was given a quick goodbye and Agrona was motioned to take to the skies.

Teagan’s pace was leisurely, and it was clear from her relaxed posture that they had nothing to be worried about yet. So far inland and close to the Fort, only the most skilled would have been able to make it so far undetected. “How long have you been with the pack so far?” She asked after a while. Though not normally one for small talk, she knew next to nothing about this Recruit other than his name. If she wanted to be able to trust him, she needed to know about him.

Their heading was north, and the distant roar of the bay and the salty tang of the salt-water spray could be sensed from the well-worn forest path Teagan had guided them to. Downed trees were scattered here and there, haphazardly strewn across the wooded path the closer they came to the source of the sound and smell. “A little over a year ago, a Red Star fell from the sky and created a massive wave,” she told him, on the off chance that the dog was curious by the odd sight. “It reached all the way to the Fort before receding a few days later. Left Kingsbury in a mess.”

It wasn’t long before they reached the sandy shore of the bay. “Whisper Beach,” she introduced, “We hold parties out here sometimes. The last one we had was during a Diplomatic conference last fall.” A sharp nod was given out to the water. “Out there is the Bay of Fundy. That little spot of land over there is Drifter Bay.”
