Syndicate Revenge Plot

Suspicious things had been happening as of late. Traps, clearly meant for Luperci, had been set on Casa di Cavalieri’s side of their borders. Teagan had yet to see the likes of these troublemakers, only finding their handiwork and hearing of the unsuspecting casualties. One, being one of her younger brothers, Arlen. While she didn’t think highly of him upon hearing the whispers, the danger was all the same. They were traps, meant for Cavaliers.

It had had her thinking of Indi’s last incident with Loners on their borders. It had been about this time last year too, perhaps a little earlier. From what she had gathered from what Indi had told her and what little she’d manage to pry out of their protective mother, the trespassers had had every intention to make off with the then-girl. The two events maybe have very well been unrelated, but, Teagan was suspicious all the same.

One could be sure, if the Officer managed to catch one of the perpetrators, they would have a lot of questions to be answered.

Her dweeb of a brother wasn’t the only one to have been caught though. There had been others, and more still that had actually been accosted by these strangers. So, when her parents gave the order to attack on sight, Teagan had been more than happy to begin the hunt. They needed to get to the bottom of this, and, soon, before someone was seriously injured…or worse.

With it being dark out, Teagan had forgone her protective tunic. Between trying to hide her scars or being able to shift unhindered, the Stryder chose the logical choice: the one that wouldn’t put her at a disadvantage. Even without her clothing though, her trusted sword still rested at her hip.

She looked over her shoulder, searching for her patrol partner in the pale moonlight. Hailed by the name of Jace, she was a battle-worn woman who had come from Teagan’s great grandfather’s old pack, Midnight Shores. While the older female was only recently accepted into the pack, her scarred skin made it known that the wolfdog was not new to conflict. It was something that comforted Teagan’s confidence in her companion for the task. With their patrol being at night, they faired a far better chance of apprehending a troublesome rogue if all members of the patrol had some fighting experience to them. Teagan just hoped that her trust in the woman was not misplaced.

“You finding anything?” She asked, her voice low, hardly above a whisper. They didn’t want to call unnecessary attention to their passing patrol. Having never worked with the woman before though, Teagan didn’t know of what cues to look out for to indicate whether Jace had found anything of interest.

A rustle in the nearby forest undergrowth drew her attention away from the Recruit. Her mismatched ears pricked with attention while her canary eyes scrutinized the shadowy world for signs of deceit.

The unreasonable, wary feeling refused to abate. Jace had long ago learned to abide by these gut feelings that clenched in her stomach for they had saved her life more than she could count. The aging female had seen off the mounted stranger that had attacked Everett and still had a throbbing wound upon her arm and chest where she had been struck with arrows. Not that the royal arctic woman let this slow her down. It was only days later that she was now out on patrol with the daughter of the leaders.

Their way was moonlit and Jace relished the light of Dalgina's eye as it bathed her in it's pale glow. As always her memories were of the black daughter that had traveled so far from her dam and the colorful drawing that was amongst Jace's prized possessions brought to her by her grandchildren all the way from the arctic. Her line was strong and many, now her descendants numbering into the high twenties and soon the thirties. All from she and Temo's loins. The older woman held herself proudly, eyes stalking the darkness about them.

Teagan had given Jace no cause for complaint, the young woman was concise, capable and talented. It helped that the other also didn't seem to stand 'small talk', which Jace abhorred with a passion. When she spoke it was something of importance and not an idle comment about the weather or seasons. The Stryder girl was over a foot taller than the older petite woman, not that size had ever mattered to Jace.

Her partner looked back towards her as Jace stepped from beneath the shadow of a tree and into the full burst of the moonlight, lighting her from above. The one blue and one golden eye glowed vividly in the moon bright beams. They were the eyes of a killer, of someone who had taken and life and would do so again in future, all deadly calm and contained violence. Tattered ears perked forwards to grasp the hushed whispher and just as she was to reply there was a rustling in the bushes that set them both to edge. The Wolfe-Denahlii's muzzle wrinkled to show teeth and her hand flew to her knife, yanking the antler bladed weapon from its sheath.

A startled rabbit burst from the undergrowth, sprinting straight between the two females and Jace snorted as its white furry tail disappeared from sight. She shook her head, her great mane of brown hair settling about her shoulders and moved onward, drawing level to Teagan and then taking a slight lead on the younger woman. There was no need to talk, it just distracted the senses from their searching.

A while later, Jace was unsure how long ahead voices became audible to her ears, thought she couldn't make out what was being said. The wolfdog stopped briefly in her tracks, turning her head to stare at Teagan and then look back in the direction the voices were coming from, making sure the other had also heard what she was. Jace sunk into a crouch and covertly sniffed at the air trying to catch the scents of these invaders.

She moved forwards, keeping to her crouch and the voices became distinguishable and distinct, one snapped and snarled with the air of exasperation and annoyance,

"Ah fuckin' told you Dolton, these ones don't fuck around. Just get it set up and shut yer trap alright, or I'll be tellin' Nassa that yer slackin' again."

A second voice joined the first, whiny and petulant, "Yer such a fuckin' narc Conall. Can't wait to fess me up. Miko and Jakin should be back anyways soon." They resumed their inane bickering as Jace finally moved enough to get a look at them, the petulant voiced one was darker and shorter than his snappish companion and was in the process of digging a hole in earth softened by recent rainfall. The bigger lighter male was standing over the other one and Jace noted the axe in his hand and the make-shift shield strapped across his back. They both had their backs to Teagan and Jace facing off into Casa's territory.

She wondered just who Miko and Jakin were and when they would be making their appearances. As much as the fury bubbled up inside of her Jace knew that to just go charging in would render them both vulnerable to a counter attack, she turned to Teagan, catching the woman's eye and silently asking how she wanted to proceed with a tilt of her head.

Minor assumption on Jace’s part agreeing to being ready to attack. Lemme know if I need to change this!

Looking at the scarred woman as she stepped into the dappled beam of moonlight reminded Teagan of just how grateful she was to have Jace on her side. The Wolfe-Denahlii matriarch looked every bit a formidable fighter; from the sharp edge that she had in her eyes down to the way her body prowled through the low light, it was clear that she meant business. She offered nothing in response to Teagan's inquiry, having been distracted, too, by the rustle of undergrowth. The pair's guarded stances were for naught though, as their culprit turned out to be nothing more than an innocent rabbit.

Curiously though, it hadn't run away from them, but, rather, towards, them. Teagan watched it go, her ears flicking as she heard her partner snort. Either the docile prey animal was a brave one, or something else had startled it into their direction. The warrior princess' eyes lingered where she'd seen the rabbit go for a moment longer, allowing the older Jace to take the lead.

With their places switched, they continued their patrol, senses ever mindful of any trouble afoot in the dark wood. It was some time before they found anything, and, when they had, it was immediately clear that, this time, it was no rabbit. Voices—Luperci voices—carried to them, and, with a glance at each other, both females wordlessly considered the same thought.

    Loners.

Both lowered their profiles and quietly stalked through the forest undergrowth towards the source of the sounds. Teagan moved a bit a ways from Jace, enough that an enemy couldn’t catch them both in a single trap, but not so much that they couldn’t continue their silent communication with one another if need be. The closer they came to their targets, the clearer it became that whoever they had come across were up to no good…and apparently were part of the group that had been laying the traps on the pack’s borders.

She curled a lip at the conversation before them. Names were spoken freely, and it appeared that there were two others that were part of the trap-laying party. A quick, scrutinizing glance and sniff at the forest around them assured Teagan that, whoever Miko and Jakin were, they weren’t too close. If they wanted to apprehend these two before their backup came back, the time was now while they were evenly matched.

Their options were slim, and the fact that one was armed did not miss the Officer’s notice. When her canary eyes met Jace’s mismatched ones, Teagan knew that she needed to make her decision quick. She pointed to the Wolfe-Denahlii woman before gesturing to the one that was busy digging a hole. Take him. Without saying, it meant that Teagan would go after the armed one. While she trusted Jace’s expertise with her knife, Teagan’s short sword paired better with the enemy’s axe if things got ugly.

They had the element of surprise on them, and if they wanted to even their odds, they needed to do it before it was two against one. Teagan maneuvered so that she was closer to her target. With a glance over at the Recruit, she nodded, confirming her readiness, and when Jace offered her own, Teagan pounced.

Teagan leapt from her crouched position, the rustle of leaves giving way as she moved being the only warning Conall had that Danger had caught him within its sights. He turned half way to meet her, yellow eyes wide and his body too slow to react to the low-moving target. She was silent even though her lips revealed her ivory fangs. Her hands planted and she swung a foot out, slamming her shin into the back of his legs in order to drop him to the ground.

Conall fell backward with an audible thump, gasping both as the wind was knocked from him and from the sharp pain of his own shield digging into this back as it “cushioned” his fall. The sound of singing metal rung in his ears before he felt a cold, solid mass against his throat. His axe-wielding hand moved hardly an inch off the ground before a foot slammed down onto it, followed by a sharp knee pressed into his chest.

He coughed roughly—wincing as he felt the sharp edge of a blade against his thickly furred throat—before letting out a growl. Looking up at who his attacker was, he was met with glaring, canary-yellow eyes. “Who are you, and what do you want with Casa di Cavalieri?” The woman demanded venomously.

“Man, fuck you, Dolton! Look ah’ what ye’ got us fuckin’ into now!” Conall snarled, sneaking a glance at his companion.

The violence had always simmered just beneath her skin, begging to be released at the slightest provocation. The iron woman's fearsome will and resolve was a direct result of her fight to control her own boiling temper. In times where she let the rage roar full and free the arctic huntress became a daemon that fought without mercy.

She nodded with tattered ears drawing back against her maned crown, she had left behind her bow for ease of movement and was deadly enough with the simple knife that she clenched all the more tightly. Their signal was mute and both females darted from their hiding places to rush at their opponents. The power in her muscles propelled her forwards, leaping the brush and fallen logs with ease.

The felling of his companion set Dolton to attempting to scramble up the side of the hole, intent on fleeing rather than saving his friend. She judged harshly, no member of Casa would ever abandon their compatriots to the weapons of the enemy. What cowards they were.

He screeched as the warrior woman buried her clawed hand into his hair and yanked him backwards with a vicious twist, her nails digging into his scalp. He was screaming and she punched him in the side of the head with her free hand, cutting off the noise abruptly.

The razor edge of her bone knife was pressed into his throat and the savage woman leaned close and snarled, "Don't think I won't cut your fucking throat and leave you to bleed to death in that hole you dug." The male was breathing in fast, ragged pants, chest rising and falling rapidly.

The acrid stench of urine punctuated the air, her nose wrinkled at it as he whimpered and tried to twist free. He had soiled himself out of the fear she could see in his wide white rimmed eyes. She dragged him backwards out of the hole, whining and yelping and babbling pleas for mercy at her the whole way,

"I dint do nuthin', you can't do this!" As the companion blazed profanity the youth yelped and shrieked back, "If we 'ad left when I fuckin' said-" His voice was thin and reedy, cracking over his words and was cut off as she slung him to the ground, kneeling against him as Teagan did to the other so that he could not escape nor even breathe properly.

The snarl that rolled from Jace's chest was a deep and poisonous roiling thunder, "You better tell us what we want to know.. or you'll be spending the rest of your lives buried in that hole." The woman was deadly serious, she would bury these fuckers alive and let them suffocate under the earth.

Dolton sounded more like a caught piglet with his screeching and screaming as he was manhandled, and Teagan felt her patience cut alarmingly short. Thankfully, Jace shut him up before he could alert the entire forest of the trespassers’ capture. Still though, there was no doubt in Teagan’s mind that the Loners’ other two companions might have heard it.

    Time was ticking.

Conall watched with wide eyes as his companion was dragged, the telltale scent of fear and urine wafting thickly in the air. Teagan noticed it too, but was more focused on the fact that she had lost his attention. “Stop looking at him! He’s not going to save your sorry ass!” She hissed above him, slamming her free palm down into his shoulder. His gold eyes shot to her as he winced and squirmed under the Stryder, realizing his own fear mounting in him as the two criminals were brought together.

His partner continued to squeal, denying any wrong doing up until Jace pinned him to the ground. Dolton’s voice was grating quickly on Teagan’s nerves. She hoped the Wolfe woman’s threat would make him shut up, or, at the very least, make him quit babbling about unhelpful nonsense.

“Who are you with, and what do you want with this pack?!” She repeated, louder this time. Her mismatched ears were pulled against her hair, and her ivory fangs were shown in threat of further violence if he did not properly answer her this time. The darkly-furred male gulped, his golden eyes flicking rapidly between Teagan and Jace and his partner, as if unsure of who to focus on. “Speak!” She boomed.

He yelped. “N-no-nobody! We’re ain’t with nobody! We were just...just diggin’ ta’ uh…dig an’—”

She pressed her sword further against his throat. “Don’t lie to me,” she cut him off warningly.

Panic shot through his eyes. “I ain’t! Tha’s tha truth! Right, Dolton?!” He looked to his friend for help. “Fuckin’ prick, speak up!”

“Are you sure that’s the truth?” She challenged, her voice lowering. “Because I’m pretty sure I heard that you were setting up a trap.” Teagan put more of her weight over his lungs.

Conall felt the pressure building, and his free hand came up to try and grasp the blade of her sword in a poor effort to push it away. “We-we were just f-following or-orders!” He stammered weakly.

    “Orders?”

She had not forgotten, the talk of another two companions. Jace did not particularly care to be caught in an outnumbered fight. If she had been alone she would have slit their throats and been done with it, she did not mess around when it came to the safety of her family. Casa, however, might object to her slicing up trespassers even if it was what they deserved.

"Yah, we ain't done nothin', we jus like diggin'-- urk-" She glanced sharply between the two captives as they babbled away, arguing between themselves and leaned on the chest of her own prisoner even more forcing him to stop talking in a breathy gargle that cut off abruptly.

She pushed her knife closer against his throat, enough to dig in the tip and bring a welling of blood to the surface. The liquid beaded before bursting and rolling down his neck in a thin staining line,

What orders.." She hissed between clenched teeth, a low growl worming its way underneath her words. His yellowed eyes met her sparking orbs and his pupils were huge with fear. He could see that in her gaze that this female would not hesitate to kill him, that his life meant nothing to her.

He gulped several times, his mouth opening and closing before everything came out in a breathless rush,

"I swear, I was jus doin' it cause 'e threatened me. I was just passin' through see, an I was stayin' in that human town over there and then 'e came and told me I was to come with 'im or he'd kill me, see. I didn't want to 'urt nobody. So I says I'm good at diggin' holes..."

Incredulously the male started to cry. She looked briefly to Teagan with brows raised, wondering if this was all an act.

"I never wanted this, but he said... Laurent said that I had to."

Her brows drew together deeply, "Who is Laurent?"

Sorry for the wait! Figured we can start on their escape and wrap this up? Teagan is taking on Miko-person.

Jace reiterated Teagan’s question to her own captive, and, for a moment, the Stryder loathed to think that they might have to resort to more drastic means to get the information out of them. They’d been nothing but an irritation since they’d been caught, and the ever-present worry that their two companions would return increased with every second wasted breath they dumbly let escape from their flapping jowls. She considered dragging them somewhere more sheltered and secluded for further interrogation. Taking them to the Fort was out of the question, as was taking them to any place of importance within the pack’s territory.

The weaker of the two, Dolton broke under the Wolfe’s wordless threat, and Conall hissed for him to shut up to no avail. The story that the Outsider revealed between sobs was one that the Officer found hard to believe. He was likely just trying to save his skin, making himself out to be the victim in a poor effort to appeal to their better nature. Jace gave her a look, and the cynical Stryder merely frowned. She didn’t want to believe his sniveling words. From the conversation they’d walked in on, the guy seemed much more willing to do his assigned duty than he now let on.

A name was thrown out, and Jace caught it and pounced. Beneath her, Conall’s face screwed up in a warning snarl at his companion. “Don’t you fuckin’ dare, Dolton! I ain’t about tah lose my head ‘cause’ah you!” It was clear, whoever this “Laurent” character was, he was not someone to be taken lightly.

Teagan’s head snapped to look over her shoulder as she heard rustling in the underbrush coming from their backs.

“Miko! Jakin! Thank th’ gods, hel—!” His words were cut short as the Stryder punched him squarely in the mouth with her off-hand. Conall yelped, his hands moving to caress his pulsing jaw as the Cavalier moved to stand.

It was perhaps good on her part to abandon her trapped prey, for, not moments later, crashing through the underbrush and snarling, the Outsider’s other two companions separated from the shadows. A sword struck out at her, and Teagan parried it. The meeting blades sparked in the darkness.

“What the hell did you two get in to this time?!” The doggish man snarled, his dark eyes making him look more demonic in a world cast in shadow.

“Nothin’, Miko! Dolton jus’ ‘bout tah spill ‘is guts out ‘bout what we was doin’ here!” Conall coughed as the woman’s weight was lifted from his chest. He rolled over, still clutching his mouth as he glared at Teagan’s back. “Take dat bitch out!”

Teagan shoved the taller male back, angling her sword in a downward slash. Miko shuffled backward, avoiding the swing as the blade cut the air between them. Behind her, Dolton lunged, trying to trip up the Stryder woman. Teagan snarled when his hands wrapped around one of her ankles and she turned to the pest, her sword moving with her.

With a low swing, she caught the Outsider above his eyes, the blade biting into the thin skin that covered his forehead. Dolton screamed and yelped, releasing her as blood began to quickly trickle down his face. His hands came up to hold the new injury, his attempts to pursue or fight her any longer forgotten. It was his luck that she was a Cavalier, born and raised with morals, else she would have not held back with her strike.

While her attention was distracted, Miko moved in to swing at her exposed back. She had a feeling he would try to take such an advantage though, and she evaded, turning and stepping over Dolton and putting him in the line of friendly fire. The unfortunate Outsider squealed as his shoulder was cut open. “Get out of the way!” Miko snarled as his eyes moved to follow after the Cavalier.

“Watch where ya’ swing that fuckin’ thing!” Dolton argued as he scrambled to his feet. He’d had enough, and moved to the outskirts of the immediate area. It was obvious that he wanted to leave, but, felt drawn to remain on the off chance of the Cavaliers being overpowered.

Teagan stepped into Miko’s guard, and their swords met once more. They traded blows, their steel clanging loudly as they met each time. Testing and trying to overpower each other, but it was obvious that the Outsider was no master at the weapon in his hands.
