Silent as a whisper

Summer plot

Grynn and the others had traveled from Casa and the group was coming together again. Gynn had spent most of the travel in silence as she was trying to think of a best way to handle getting in and out fast.

Grynn looked at everyone and smiled. "We need to act as fast as we can. Removing Arthur and issac before anything happens is key." She spoke as she looked to both Jace and Rurik. "We've got a big job ahead of us." She than looked to Arlen. "This is your first large mission. Stay focused they are counting on us." She spoke. Her tone was a bit chiding as she glanced away and trough Halifax.

Grynn watched the colors in the sky as they were fading. "Jace, you and Rurik should take the right side of the building and I'll take Arlen to the left. Look for any way to enter. Once found we will meet back there." She spoke as she pointed out a spot out of view.

Golden eyes were focused on their target as she tightened her hair. "Everyone do your best to remain as silent as possible. We don't know how many are in there. We don't even know if our friends haven't been moved. Be on guard at all times." She finished as she took in a breath. "Be safe."

Despite the severity of the situation, the youngest spy of them all couldn't keep the moon-bright gleam of his smile away. It was all a great game that he'd played so many times before. He saw their doubt in their glances and in the set of their mouths. Jace was fairly knew, so it made sense. She hadn't had the time to understand just how crafty the youth could be. Rurik wasn't exactly the most out and about fellow himself. Aunt Grynn though... surely she understood right? After all, hadn't she caught him in the act of thieving and watched him get away with it?

Or perhaps he was even better than he'd thought previously and she'd thought nothing of catching him in that Courthouse corridor. Maybe he should take it as a compliment that they suspected nothing and thought him the innocent flower boy he always played at. But truth was that he was so much more.

Ever since he'd opened his puppy-blue eyes, there'd always been a gleam of mischief in it. He was a trickster at heart. And Fenris, wasn't this the greatest trick?

Grynn didn't seem to think so. She turned on her nephew, voice chiding him for his smiles and silent laughter. His lips closed, though they remained curled at the end. She just didn't understand the humor of the situation. No one did, it seemed.

He'd chosen against this. He'd wanted to go in, guns blazing, and attack those that did his family wrong. Had they gone with his choice, he wouldn't have gotten that chance. His father's option had won, the one of stealth and patience. And here he was, delving into enemy territory, just as he hoped. How could he not laugh?

The pack spy gave out orders with a cool certainty, sending them all in separate directions. Except him. The line of his mouth set grimly, quickly realizing she wanted him to stay within her sight. She didn't trust him. Fine. He'd show her just how perfectly suited he was for this job. Silently, he nodded at her orders before following her on soft paws. He wouldn't let her down.

Jace Denahlii Wolfe
~~~~~~~~~
The tension in her body was giving her a migraine and she pressed her knuckles at her temples wearily. The wound around her throat still ached with every breath take or word spoken and the Denahlii woman did know that again she had stared death straight in the face and still walked away with impunity. Although if Temo had not been with her then it would have been a very different ending for her. She grimaced and rubbed at her raw wound with a paw, she could still feel the tight pull of the wire as it had closed down around her throat and cut off her airways.
It had been a long time since Jace had experienced a pure primal panic such as that one pulling from pure instinct and making the noose all the more tighter as she had gasped and choked. The wolfdog's pelt bristled and she shook herself, trying to get out of her own head she focused on Grynn and Arlen as they strode ahead of her. They were on a reconnaissance and possibly a rescue mission if they happened to find their missing pack-mates.
The woman had her sword and knives although had left her bow at home for ease of movement. She wore no armor or clothing as she never did, preferring the freedom to move and flit from pose to pose, she had rubbed ashes and charcoal into the white parts of her fur to mask their blinding glare in the forest. She listened to the higher-ranking female as she spoke their plan, and nodded wordlessly as she was paired with Rurik.
As they split Jace took a look back to make sure the scarred male was following behind her, and then focused on ahead of her, sharp eyes watching keenly for any sign of movement or indication that their cover had been blown.
Smoke curled from his muzzle on the exhale, smelling of his sweet indulgence. He would need a clear head for this mission, so he decided to keep from his usual sin of alcohol and smoke what little herb he had to steady his nerves. He had felt his blood starting to boil the more he thought about what had happened to his pack; his family. Taken, attacked, harmed. He could hear his past self calling to him, calling out for blood to run and paint the streets red. But that wasn't his mission tonight, so he took to his herb to keep himself calm.
He only smoked half of it, putting out the ember and saving the other half for when he returned. He ducked back into Veri's house silently and gathered what he thought he would need. A powdery mix of local dried flora sat on the counter in the kitchen, having been prepared earlier. If they were to get in and out without being noticed they would not only have to be soundless, but scentless as well. He took a few pawfulls of the stuff and rubbed it along his neck, under his arms, and between his legs. The stuff made his nose itch at first with how strongly it smelled of earth, but he could no longer smell his own scent or that of Casa, which was the point.
Next he rubbed down his belt and knife sheath with the stuff, knowing that the worked leather could held scent, even just a little. He didn't want to be the reason this mission failed, if it did. He also wanted to be able to get close enough to see the whites of his victims eyes before he sank his claws into their neck. As the thought crossed his mind he could feel his lips parting in a snarl and quickly checked himself. He couldn't afford to let his old self peak through tonight. He might finish that roll of herb after all.
On his way out of the house he grabbed his dagger and once outside he rubbed it down with damp dirt to tone down it's shine in the moonlight. Normally he should shudder at the idea of intentionally dirtying his blades, but they were tools to be used how he deemed fit, and tonight this was how he felt they were best used.
Finally, before he left to meet with the others who had been picked to go, he retrieved his plain black cloak from where he had partially buried it next to the house. He had done this for the same reason he had rubbed himself down with the mixture: to cover his scent up with more natural earthen scents. Throwing the cloak around himself he set out for the others.
He was the last to the meeting place, and as such, took up rear guard. He followed the group wordlessly to their destination, doing his best to keep his mind from wandering to what he would do when he got his paws around the throats of who so ever had decided it would be a good idea to attack his home. He was fighting a loosing battle. His thoughts continued to stray to when he had been taken, what had been done to him then, how hard he had fought for his life and the lives of others and how he had failed. He thought about what he had wanted to do to his captors, but had been unable to do, and about the few times he had succeeded. He thought about the foolish ones who had taken his family and how good it would feel to send them screaming to what ever after life awaited them. He had forgotten how much he loved the feeling, the rush, the ecstasy of killing. By the time they arrived at Halifax he had had to throw his hood over his head to his packmates wouldn't look and see his manic smile.
He listened to the pack spy dish out orders. He was to be paired with Jace, the scared female. Good then. From the looks of it she had seen her fair share of life and doubted she would object over-much to him "accidentally" killing a few guards. For the sake of the mission of course. And besides that, Arlen didn't need to his this side of him. It was better if the boy continued thinking of him as the simple drunkard.
He set following behind Jace, looking where she didn't to cover all of their angles, keeping an eye out for any clues or unaware guards posted about.
Sorry guys!
Grynn took in a deep breath as she motioned for her nephew to follow her. Normally she was adorned with jewelry and other odds and ends, today though she left herself little on her. Her mighty war hammer strapped to her back wrapped in cloth and only one pouch hung on her hip. She wore nothing else as this mission required as much silence as possible.
Stepping around the first corner she took in a breath. The scent of another lingered but she wasn't sure if they were a guard or random loner. "Be careful." She whispered as she looked back and Arlen. From here the front of the building was a ways off so she hoped no guards moved this way.
"Check every nook and cranny." She spoke laying her hand on the wall. She gently slid it across as she looked for anything that might get them in. Loose stone broken boards.
Grynn was so focused on her search she hadn't heard the third set of steps. Crouched down she was checking a broken bit of wall. "You won't get in through there." A voice spoke almost soft. Brown ears snapped looking to Arlen first then to the greenery behind her. "Show yourself" Grynn retorted as she started to rise puffing herself up.
The male emerged holding his hands slightly out. "I mean no harm they've got my friend too." He stated. "I could show you how to get in." He finished as Grynn starred him down.
"Arlen go and find Jace and Rurik. If I don't come back the three of you get to Casa." She spoke her tone stern. "Show me." She spoke as she followed the other. "If this is a trap and I die I'll haunt you forever." She spoke low.
"This ain't no trick dear." He spoke as he led her to an entry way. "I haven't seen any guards here and it goes all the way in." He added. Grynn stepped in and took in a breath she could faintly on the breeze smell the others. She turned around and looked at the male. "Alright I'm game." She spoke. "What's your name?" She asked. He looked at her for a moment "Theodore" he retorted.
The pair made their way back to where her and Arlen had been as she waited for them to gather. "We have a way in." She spoke looking to everyone. We need to move now. She stated as she and Theo led the way.
OOC - Sorry about the wait :(
[351]
Arlen watched solemnly as their group was split in two. Jace and Rurik disappeared and soon he and Grynn melted into the shadows, their footsteps lighter than air. The prince, though eager to prove his worth, was patient as his aunt took the lead. As the most senior spy, it really only made sense. Also, he didn't exactly know where they were going.
He nodded sharply at her warning, though he didn't really absorb it. He WAS being careful, wasn't he? Or at least, for him this was careful.
Grynn stopped them both to examine the wall. He stepped back to study it himself from afar, eyes narrowing at the still stable construction. He was no expert, and perhaps it was just laziness, but he felt like there wasn't really a chance of him finding anything useful in there. The boy laced his fingers behind his head, bending over to look at the ground just in case when the sound of a voice sent him twirling around to face an imaginary foe.
Instead of a big, scary Syndicate member like he'd expected, it was a slim, well-dressed man who held his hands out in peace. Arlen's jade eyes moved up and down his figure critically. He was no strong Cavalier. No, he was more of Eve's type. Small, delicate, handsome. Not much of a fight if experience was to tell anything.
The man offered an explanation, but as Arlen was about to question him further - and offer condolences - his aunt silenced him and sent him away. The red Stryder's ears flicked back in annoyance. He wanted to listen in on this too! But orders were orders. Scowling, he scurried the way the older members had went, ducking down low to hide in the shadows still.
When he finally found them, he whispered a quick rundown of their encounter with the strange male and lead them back to the meeting place. Sure enough, Grynn was still there with the stranger. "Alright, show us the way." He smiled cheerfully at the stranger to lead them forward, naively following his aunt without question.
Jace Denahlii Wolfe
~~~~~~~~~

Silence was something she knew with intimate detail, conversation just wasn't her deal. She got the feeling that the Russian male was of the same ilk. She didn't speak to him and focused instead on listening into the darkness as she moved cautiously through the brush. The woman was well experienced with tracking and hunting for prey that held senses on par with her own.

Nothing greeted the pair though except darkness and the stillness of night. Even the night creatures were quiet in this part of the forest. The female's head turned as footsteps not their own approached and with a low rumble she was poised to attack but stopped short when Arlen came up behind them. Her brows furrowed tightly as the situation was explained, something Jace distrusted immensely.

She was just as vigilant following the red male back and looked upon the stranger male with extreme distrust. The tension in her body had reached fever pitch and the warrior woman was ready to snap at any moment,ears turning a constant rotation upon her maned head. She followed, keeping an eye upon the unknown male, she never did trust strangers.

The silence of the forgotten city set Rurik a little on edge. Usually there would be night critters singing their moonlight songs to each other, owls calling at the mice they chased. Tonight though, it seemed that not even the wind wanted to talk. The lack of ambient sound made sneaking that much harder, since there was nothing to cover the their sounds of movement, but with the rags to muffle his weapons combined with him making sure to step that much more carefully, it was like he wasn't even there.

The approaching footsteps sounded like an approaching stamped in the still air. Who ever it was sounded like they were trying to find and snap every twig and brush against every bush in their path. Rurik spun and duck low, sword halfway out of it's sheath before he caught site of the young red haired boy Arlen.

He listened as the situation was explained and followed the boy back to where their lead spy was waiting for them with their unknown benefactor. He looked at the passage way that this 'Theodor" had indicated and decided he didn't trust it. He turned to the their new friend and spoke in a low voice without removing his hood. "If this is a trap, you will the first to feel my blade and the last to leave this world." He hoped his promise was clear enough for the male.

He took up his place as rear guard as they entered the building, making sure no one would sneak up on them.
