Dismantle the dangerous traps that the loners have placed within Casa, or get caught in one.
[532] - 5th trap, not even keeping track of the date anymore.

It was a beautiful, sunny day. The birds were screaming and squirrels frolicking up in the branches above him. After having gotten himself (and others) caught in several traps, Arlen had decided that maybe it would be better to stick close to the fort from now on. Of course, a wild heart like his couldn't be contained to the Fort entirely, no. But he'd be smart about it.

After his daily chores and training, the boy could be found riding the horse that he and his brother shared: Vito. The magnificent black and white stallion was huge, perfect for the growing Knight boys. After all, Vito had belonged to their great-grandfather. What better steed than he?

Riding tall and proud, he nudged Vito into a nice trot, taking it slow for now. The stallion nickered playfully, grateful for the adventure it seemed. A butterfly flew past Len's ear, making him giggle a little at it's brilliant colors and dainty wings. While his attention was turned elsewhere, Vito kept on trotting, careful to avoid any trees or bushes even without his rider's guidance. It was while he was sidestepping a bush that a sharp snap sounded and the stallion bolted.

Arlen wobbled, almost falling off at Vito's sudden momentum, but managed to stay on only because he was quick to grab the pommel of the saddle. Whether the snap was another animal or a trap strangely close to the Fort, Arlen never got to find out. He was stuck in a headlong gallop atop a fearful mount. He gathered the reins, pulling them tightly to try to slow Vito down. When that didn't work, he began pulling to one side to see if making a turn would slow Vito down. It did, sort of.

The stallion slowed to a fast trot in order to weave between a pair of trees, but as he did so, he found that his rider... just wasn't there. An unseen wire strung between the two trees at the perfect height to unseat a rider had done just that. Arlen lay winded on the ground where Vito had left him, lucky that his foot hadn't gotten caught in a stirrup. Vito was a good horse though. When the Stryder finally managed to stand up again, Vito stood only yards away, grazing.

Arlen sighed softly, walking to pick up the reins that dragged on the ground before the stallion. He stooped low to grab at the leather he saw in the grass. It wasn't Vito's reins.

Darling Arlen, the brightest boy in Casa, had somehow managed to set off a fifth trap. This net trap, unlike the one before, was meant for a larger target and was loose on the lanky teen. Sighing, no longer frightened by such situations, he shoved his legs through a couple of the holes and propped himself up on elbows into a comfortable seated position. He could be here for hours. Might as well enjoy it.

"Hello?" He called out apathetically. "Oh hellooooo?" Voice barely above conversational tone, he wasn't exactly making an effort to be heard here. In fact, it almost sounded like an amused grumble on his part. "Oh, somebody save me."

Hidden in the shadows of a tree, a liver furred female crouched among its branches with ghost green orbs continuously scanning her surroundings. Guin had spent the night in this area of the territory to keep an ear out for anyone that might need help, or watch for individuals that didn't belong. She'd heard of a few getting hurt by the trespassers or caught in traps; it made her blood seethe to see her packmates being played with like a game of cat-and-mouse. If she got the chance to chase away one of them, she was taking a trophy. Maybe an ear or a few fingers. They'd rue the day they decided to cross her or her pack.

Her contemplation over a potentially messy encounter was unexpectedly jarred by the sound of thundering hoofbeats from the direction of the Fort. Guin turned her head in its direction, ears twitching forward to determine which horse it might be. It sounded heavy, draft horse like. She only knew of a handful of draft quality equines in the stables. With a sigh the warrior princess dropped to the ground, a quiet grunt the only sound of her effort. At this point the hoofbeats had stopped, however this meant she had to pause and wait for further indications of direction.

Within moments a voice began to call out. It didn't sound overly urgent, almost amused, actually. Ears bent in mild confusion against her skull, Guin made her way toward the voice. The closer she got, the more she suspected who it was. Her assumption was proven correct by a splash of red fur consumed within the patterns of a rope net. No wonder he sounded unconcerned, this wasn't the first trap Arlen had gotten himself into. A short distance away there was Vito, grazing away in peace, unconcerned about his rider. Guin stopped a few feet away and rested her weight back on one leg, an eyebrow gently raised as she crossed her arms over her bare chest. "Hey, you look a little hung up, you enjoying your break time?" aside from her brow, her expression remained completely deadpan.

It wasn't long before his 'cries' - if you could even call them that - for help were answered. A single raised eyebrow and a turned head was all he gave to Guinevere at first. His half-lidded eyes sparked a little and a smirk found it's way on his face before he turned away, leaning his head against the ropes.

"Oh, you know it sweetheart!" He wriggled his body a little bit to get comfy and his tail slipped through another hole where it dangled lazily. A hand twisted through the net and wove its fingers into it. "You should come up here," he called over his shoulder before returning to his resting position. "It's much better than being down there."

Arlen chuckled to himself a little. "And ya know what's even better? I don't have to worry about getting caught in one of those pesky traps. It's almost like heaven up here." And he wasn't really lying. The sun was bursting through the trees at just the right angle to give him a pleasant warmth. The net was loose enough to act like a little hammock for him, and on occasion there was a light breeze to stir his curls. "Only thing to make it better would be the company of a pretty girl!"

Guin was no little girl anymore, his adopted relative being two full years older, but Arlen was no fool. It was a very rare woman who took offense to being called a pretty girl by a pretty boy like himself. Why, if he had a flower or two to treat her with, there was no doubt in his mind how well she'd react.

The nonchalance in his demeanor only proved her point; this had happened to him plenty already. The pet name caused an ear to twitch in dislike. No one had called her that since her parents disappeared. Aside from that small response, however, she allowed no hint of the ache it had awakened to transfer onto her expression. Guin rolled her eyes mildly at her adopted cousin, despite a slight smirk pulling on her lips. "I might just take you up on that." she replied, all the while her ghost green gaze had begun to look over the net for weakness's, and in the meantime he continued to calmly talk up his current situation. On mention of a pretty girl she outright snorted. "Not sure who that might turn out to be. Isobel may not hate you anymore but she's not likely become that friendly. Everyone else is basically family." it never occurred to her that he might have meant her.

Deciding to act upon her first statement, the liver furred female turned her attention upon the tree Arlen was lassoed to. After a brief inspection, she crouched and leapt as high as she could before sinking her claws into its bark and scrambling up the tree almost like a squirrel. It only took a few more seconds to find the branch he hung from, crawl along its length to a safe portion that would not break, and promptly sprawl herself across it, her feet crossed at the ankles over the branch for stability and her hands used as padding beneath her chin while she gazed down at the red Stryder. A spark of humor lit itself within those ghostly greens.

"Well well, you're right. It's actually pretty comfy up here. Give me a book or a piece of wood and I'd be content to stay for hours." she had, many times before, done exactly this. Books took the wolfdog away from her thoughts, her doubts that nawed at her core and blamed herself for the absence of her father. If only she'd been a better daughter, a better fighter, maybe he would have been proud enough to stay, or just maybe told her where he was going. Woodwork also did this, although it came less easily than reading; Alistair had made it look easy.

Arlen blatantly grimaced at the idea of sharing his little haven with a certain red haired Cavalier. He tried to keep his voice as straight and unbiased as possible, for the girl had attempted a sort of reconciliation, but as far as he was concerned Isobel was still not on his list of favorite people. “Yeahhhhh, not to sound rude or anything but she wasn’t exactly who I had in mind either.” Conflict aside, that was his best friend’s sister, anyway. And there were just some things you didn’t do.

He rolled over a little in his net to look down at Guinevere. “No, I was hoping for someone maybe not so…” There really was no good way to put it, so the redheaded boy let that part of the subject drop and hoped Guin never picked it back up again. “I was thinking maybe someone a little closer at the current moment?” There, that should do the trick. Right?

Sure enough, the adopted Knight girl climbed up the tree and joined him. He watched her progress with an amused smirk on his face as she clambered up to perch above him. He resumed his position with his head tilted back, half-lidded green eyes staring up at her. “It’s pretty nice, right?”

Pretending not to pay attention to her, he instead pulled a dark fingered hand closer to his face, unsheathing his claws for inspection. There really wasn’t much to look at, but they both knew that wasn’t what he was really doing. He was trying to hide his unease at being high up in the air in a foreign-made net. Who knew when it would give out. For now, it was comfortable. Relaxing, even. But that didn’t make it safe.

Guin's smirk pulled at the corner of her muzzle as the red furred male disagreed with her suggestion and tried to carefully avoid a possible insult to his best friend's sister. But the liver furred female just couldn't let it drop completely, not yet. She waited until she was above him to deem his words with a response. "Not so....what? Don't you think Isobel is attractive? And she has been teasing you quite a lot...doesn't that mean she likes you or something?" let him chew on that for a while. An ear flicked at his second attempt at a hint. He didn't mean her, did he? No way.

She snorted down at him quietly, although to be fair, she had joined him up on the branch, so to be technical she'd accepted his invite without properly meaning to. "I think you have me mixed with someone else, someone that gives a tail about...those kind of things. Waste of time." the warrior princess noted the way he inspected his claws, sensed the subtle tension of unease throughout his body, and decided she'd be merciful and actually help him down. Guin pushed herself into a crouched position and did a cursory search of the foliage below, spotting her goal relatively quickly. With thumb and forefinger placed properly in her muzzle, she released a sharp whistle to get Vito's attention and call him over to her.

The stallion's head raised at the sound and he came toward her at a slow trot. "Whoa. Whoa boy." although he was confused at where the command came from he obeyed, coming to a stop right in position below her. Next she maneuvered herself hanging down on the branch, held up only by her hands. After making sure she was lined up with the black and white mount, she released and fell. Her feet hit the saddle first, so she could bend her knees and absorb most of the impact into her own body rather than Vito's back. Her hands latched into his mane second, preparing for the expected spook he'd play out at the abrupt addition of weight. Vito's head threw up and he jinxed to the side as expected, but her voice rose to be heard, one hand stroking his neck gently as she calmed him. After a moment he was fine, and Guin slipped her feet down his sides to sit in the saddle properly, although the stirrups were miles away and useless for her feet.

The wolfdog looked up at Arlen as she drew her short sword from its sheath. "Alright, be ready," she warned the Stryder male. She had no idea how he'd land, but he had to get down somehow. Thanks to Vito's height, her weapon was able to reach the net and allowed her to slash an opening on one side that would hopefully let Arlen roll right out and onto Vito with her.

Arlen about choked, body freezing up in the middle of a horrified frown. Green eyes were wide as he turned to his cousin, shock clear as day on his face. "Are you crazy?" There was a slight mania, a slight crack to his voice. Shaking his head, he resumed his previous position, but there was still a twinge of incredulity in his voice. "Okay first of all, Damon would murder me in cold blood. Second of all, Isobel called a truce, yeah, but have you met her? That's not a real truce. I'm gonna wake up one day floating in the river because of that girl!"

Arlen was a little disappointed in Guin's apparent disinterest, but he chalked it down to the same thing that made him refuse to consider Isobel: it was just too embarrassing. He knew many people who were like that. He didn't understand it at all though. The Stryder boy was a fool for love. He saw it everywhere and basked in its warm light. "Ahh c'mon, Guin. Surely there's some boy that's struck your fancy, hmm?"

Guinevere's piercing whistle had Arlen cringing from the noise. Fenris, did she have to do that right in my ear? Apparently so, but when he saw Vito's approach, he began to understand. The giant of a horse looked even moreso between the smaller woman's legs, but Arlen wasn't one to judge. He waited patiently for Guin's call, having been through this a time or two before. He always hated the fall.

The tear in the net didn't have him falling straight down as he expected. Instead, he rolled into something warm and soft and when he opened his eyes he was in the arms of his liver-colored lady friend. As with any member of Casa, her embrace was strong and muscular and made him feel safer. "Well, aren't you quite the 'Knight' in shining armor?"

His tail draped across one of her legs, his rear finding itself between her thighs quite nicely and his legs falling over her other leg. He was quite cozily situated if he could say so himself. After his brief inspection, the boy smiled dreamily up at her. A red hand reached up and pulled her cheek down to him where he planted a wet lick on her. "My hero!"

The reaction to her suggestion turned out to be pure gold and had a grin spreading across her muzzle as his voice cracked and he began listing the reasons that was a bad idea. Guin chuckled quietly. "You underestimate how chill Damon is. As long as you treated Isobel the way she should be, he'd be fine. Now Veri however...there's where you might find resistance." the healer was usually a kind face of the pack, but Guin was certain if someone grew an interest in either of the cream she wolf's children that they'd better not do anything funny. "I have, actually. Babysat her a time or two. She's very close to Damon, looks up to him a lot. They spent a lot of time together before he met you." she didn't say it, but Arlen was smart; if the red coywolf didn't like Arlen, maybe Isobel was jealous and felt like Arlen was stealing her one and only brother. It was up in the air for either one, but Guin had grown up with a brother as well. She could understand being jealous, hell, she had been jealous when Tristan had brought up Izrian and eventually moved away.

Guin's gaze resharpened from their unfocused glaze onto the back of Arlen's head as he tried to pry into her life. "Yeah, there was. He left." her tone left little room for more discussion, and she took the lull as her cue to summon Vito and drop down into his saddle. Now boosted with the height of the draft stallion, it was simple to reach up with her sword and cut a slice in the net to free Arlen. Except this didn't go quite as planned, as he rolled out oddly and fell, literally, into her arms. His instant quip made her muzzle wrinkle slightly before she smirked down at him, her ghost green eyes abruptly sparkling. "Why thank you, I go to great lengths to always save damsels in distress." he'd walked right into that one.

To her dismay his next action was to grasp her cheek and pull it down to his face. Before she could pull away or protest he'd planted a nice and wet one, just below her eye. She could feel the saliva cooling as she stared down at him deadpan. "I can still drop you, you know." and it wasn't quite an idle threat, she could...but it was doubtful, she wasn't that mean. With a sigh she gave Vito a nudge forward and he began to walk back toward the Fort.

As if a sudden breeze had swept through his net, Arlen got a cold chill down his spine. The idea of getting Veri on his bad side was not a pleasant one. He'd only ever seen her as a sweet woman and a great healer, but she was a mother too. And he'd met his fair share of fearsome mothers. Heck, take a look at his! But the next phrase had him shifting uncomfortably in his seat. "There's nothing for her to be jealous of though!" Of course, he wasn't completely ignorant of what had happened the first time, it wasn't his fault then either. "It's not like we spend the whole day together, just an hour or two." And some days, not even that. Usually when he couldn't see Damon the day before, Arlen would go knock on his door to hang out during the night when they were both free. "If anything, she's the one who gets him the most!"

Arlen's smooth talking faded into a painful wince at the sharpness of her tone. Whoop, stepped on thin ice with that one. The red Stryder bit his lip to prevent any more smart remarks from landing him in hot water. And for his silence, he was landed in the lap of a pretty girl! He chuckled softly, leaning into her shoulder dramatically. "And you do know I'm almost always in distress." What with traps and his brother, it seemed like the boy was getting into conflicts daily anymore.

His little kiss was not appreciated, apparently, but he grinned at the dark track of saliva left on her fur. "Oh, c'mon..." He batted his red lashes at her. "I'm not that bad a kisser, am I?" Not that he'd ever actually kissed anyone, unfortunately, but he wasn't going to press his luck any further with Guin today. Instead, he chuckled at her smart remark while she arranged Vito's reins and turned him around. "Carry me away, oh heroic one!"
