What do you know?

p. Galilee | Outskirts of Halifax

[ 000 ] » Hope this is ok! Vague as ever, lol.

Staying cooped up in the warehouse all day was kind of a bore, and even on rainy days, Szenne made it a point to go out and explore while she told Ronan to sit back and guard the place. There was a chance that Azalea would be around to look after it, too, which then enabled Ronan to go roam, too.

Despite having a whole warehouse, they didn’t have much to ‘guard’. This peeved Szenne on most days. They needed more of a small, yet secure place to hide their goods rather than an enormous warehouse that attracted all sorts of unwanted attention. If she needed to count the times she had to grab a Luperci by the throat and tell him to get out, she wouldn’t be able to do it all her fingers and toes. She might need Ronan’s fingers and toes to finish off the score.

These kinds of issues had her out, elsewhere looking for some other kind of establishment that would suite them all.

Szenne had kept her nose to the wind much of the walk, trying to scout out something interesting. There were a few Luperci scents on the breeze, which were more than enough to tell her that her day wouldn’t be boring. But to pinpoint where they were? They were far off as far as she could tell. She had been walking on the outskirts of the city for the moment, but stopped to rest her aching paws on a stoop, staring down the street toward where she just saw a bird take flight.

Halifax was something of a peculiarity in the region, a city home to loners and bands of ruffians but unclaimed by a proper back, someplace even more lawless than the wilds. Lee’s father had told her stories about strangers he’d met in the city: drunkards, vagabonds, thieves, but old friends too. It was a place for those who had nowhere else to go, who sought shelter in brick walls and old vans. Rumor had it there were interesting gatherings of folk too, though Skoll had yet to see this for himself.

He didn’t understand loners, he said, and went off on a tangent about loyalty and duty that made Galilee’s eyes glaze over until he cuffed her ear.

“Don’t think about venturing out there alone,”
the one-eyed man warned in a growl.

“Promise I won’t,” said Lee.

She ventured out with somebody, though she abandoned them the second she could.

Percival had been an infrequent babysitter when Lee was too small to get into very much trouble, but now that she had reached shifting age, Percy had a harder time keeping up. While he had the heart of a tenacious terrier deep down, it wasn’t obvious when he was shouting at Galilee’s back as she vaulted over a crumpled car and dodged down the street. What had meant to be a “leisurely stroll” through the Halifax outskirts turned into a chase that did not end so well for poor Percy.

Galilee was too much like her father: stupidly reckless, determined, and enduring. Percival, fast as he was, was just too scrawny and easily winded to catch her.

Laughter rang from the girl as she zipped around a corner. Apartments rose to her right, their windows broken, some showing evidence of interior collapse thanks to the winds and storms of several unmaintained decades. She looked over her shoulder to make sure her would-be chaperone wasn’t in sight, then startled when a pigeon suddenly flapped out of her path. Green eyes darted to the bird, then a wolf beyond.

“Oh, bonjour!” Galilee barked, running to the figure on the stoop. As stupid and reckless as her father, indeed. Her grin was big and toothy.

Szenne zoned out a bit, thinking of her days with Malus and the rest of her crew, back when half of them weren’t deserters and traitors. Brightly colored scenes clouded her real vision and a scene of one of their last raids played before her eyes. She remembered feelings of worthiness, triumph, and respect as many of them treated her as the second-in-command - because that’s what she made herself to be.

Movement beyond her vision took her out of the thought, and the brightly colored scene melted away to the gloomy day; surrounding buildings colored in the gray gloom of the overcast day. She focused on a golden figure running towards her, and Szenne tensed, standing up from the stoop just as the girl closed the distance between them.

Bonjour right back to ya. Whatcha doin out here runnin up to strangers like that?” From the look of her, Szenne could tell she was on the younger side and Szenne never got to hang with a youngin’ before.

The brown and tawny wolf looked up and greeted her, and Galilee panted lightly and folded her ears back with realization of what she’d done. Oops.

She could play it cool, though. She picked her grin right back up and tried to push her bangs out of her eyes like her father always did, using the moment to compose herself before she studied the loner curiously. “I decided to go for a run and you look bored,” she offered, hoping that she didn’t come across as too much of a liar. It was the truth, anyway; this lady didn’t need to know that she’d ditched her escort or that she hadn’t realized the woman was there moments ago.

“I’m not gonna hurt ya, if that’s what you’re worried about,” she added smugly, but beamed again to show that she didn’t take her reassurance seriously.

Her tail wagged and she looked up at the apartments, her tongue lolled from her jaws but her breathing steadied once more. Young as she was, gifted with the endurance of wolf and dog, she didn’t tire easily. “Do you live here?” she asked.

”Outta my mind is what I looked like,” Szenne justified, but she was in it now and aware of everything. The young girl reassured her that no trouble was meant, and that told Szenne that at least she wasn’t going to find trouble in her newfound company. She didn’t want to stab the girl so soon – she kind of liked her bubbly personality, the few seconds she got of it so far.

”Yeah, but I ain’t tellin ya where.” Szenne’s voice changed to sincerity when asked. She didn’t want the girl suggesting they go there or snooping around in her stuff. Again, she didn’t want to have to stab her so soon. ”What’s ya name, anyway? I’m Szenne.”

Then something dawned on her. Green eyes studied the girl as Szenne wondered if she could trust her. There’d only be one way to find out, and perhaps crashing someone’s party would be the perfect amount of mischief to unveil that little truth. Szenne awaited the girl’s name patiently, and then suggested, ”Ya ever steal anythin’ before?”

I'm Galilee, or Lee, the girl responded earnestly, her ears quivering to curious peaks amid her unruly hair. She reached up to tug her ponytail and looked around at the apartments. So she didn't live here, in squished-together buildings like the hotel. What kind of place is it though? I mean, if it'll give it away you don't gotta tell me, I get it. She released her own hair and flashed her shark smile. But like, I've not seen a loner's place before. Growing up in a pack, she couldn't imagine living somewhere that wasn't the hotel or a den surrounded by family. Did Szenne live in a house, or a car, or under a bridge, or—

A question cut through her thoughts, and Lee blinked at the she-wolf. Uh. She wracked her brain and let her tail wag uncertainly. Nothing that wasn't just puppy stuff, like taking food out from under my dad's nose or something, she said dismissively, excitement barely hushed in her young voice as her tail stirred faster. Was this wildling suggesting what Lee thought she was...?

[ 000 ] » Lee's colors are soo pretty. They remind me of caramel xD

”Ya name’s interestin, but so is mine.” Of German origin or something like that. She heard her mom talk about it once.

Szenne was lucky to have asked the question when she did, else she might’ve gotten stuck with describing the warehouse to the young female in the most vague ways. Big. Rock-faced. Old. Useless. Empty. Rusted. In no way did Szenne want to give away what it really looked like to the girl, should she get curious and come snooping around someday. She would not be met with the same kindness. Ask the last kid that came around snooping. He never came back, which told Szenne and Ronan their methods of scaring kids away worked. Too bad there was so much blood on the streets with adults. If they could scare them enough for them to never want to come back, there’d be less death in Halifax.

Alas, the answer Lee gave her brought hope to Szenne’s heart. So, ok, maybe she hadn’t been a part of anything major, but hearing that Lee was able to swipe food under her father’s nose was a start. The girl had a knack for it if she could get away with it with her father – who knew her and lived with her.

”Ya wanna help me wit a li’l some’n? There’s a buncha Luperci in a camp on the other side of Halifax… and they got a ton of cool shit wit ‘em. Ya help me relieve ‘em of their shit, and I’ll split our winnins even witcha.”
