A token of all things meal related

Calla Valentine000
Calla's out somewhere in the woods near her home in the ruins.

There wasn't much for the witch to do in this war that revolved around Salsola and Inferni. There were many members of the coyote pack that she had never met. When she questioned Helena about Inferni, she hadn't gotten much, mainly because she assumed that things had been rough with her mate being imprisoned by the pack she once called home. As a general gift to those in Salsola who were participating in the war, she had sent out a message with more than one of the slaves that she had a free meal to anyone who came by her place. It was her way of clearing some of the tension that had been brought up between her and other members of the pack after she'd taken Till as a mate.

She could understand both sides but the idea behind it made her lonely. She had her children, of course, and both were growing up beautifully, though she could already see problems arising in her Julius that were not present in other children she'd had the pleasure of watching. He was different, far different from Chester who was an angel compared but it did not bother her that both children had their own respective personalities. After all, both were likely from different fathers. Their pelt coloration proved that.

Both were at home, though, and now she walked through the woods with both several hares and a few other smaller rodents that had been caught within her traps. She had been mildly successful in the positioning of her traps in the most recent weeks after she moved them to avoid cutting the local population.

After being taught by both Loki and Scorpius the different types of traps, how to place them and when to move them, she was no novice when it came to setting them up. Of course, most of her meals revolved around smaller animals since she wasn't good with a bow and she wasn't often seen hunting on four legs.

Hey~ thanks for starting! And sorry for the long rambly post. Still getting used to this guy again. [ 458 ]

Strange. He had the evening to himself. He didn't quite know what to do.

Duncan had gone from the very simple and largely overlooked existence of a border scout to a full scale combatant in yet another major conflict in recent history. It troubled him to think that after the Five and the Boreas resurgence that Salsola was once again at war -- and this time with an enemy that was once its ally -- but there was nothing he could do but patrol and fight.

The scout regarded Salsola as a pack of doers and thinkers. There were the thinkers, the ones who spent their time rubbing shoulders and kissing cheeks; the ones who did a lot of talking and bargaining and imagining. Then there were the doers, the ones who spent their time working their muscles and panting in the sun; the ones who did a lot of the hunting and scouting and fighting.

At the end of it all everyone did their part to make the Thistle Kingdom as great as it was, in one way or another. He neither looked down on the thinkers nor did he idolize the doers. There were simply skills where one individual would excel and where another could not. All packs worked that way.

Whether or not he was a doer or a thinker, Duncan wasn't entirely sure.

He was a doer in the sense that he followed orders and worked for the pack; scouting and tracking and exploring and everything his rank and job demanded of him. Yet he was also a thinker. He preferred to do things his own way, not to be told how and when and why, and liked to be creative and innovative as opposed to simply following procedures and guidelines.

When he was told to take the rest of the night off though, he was at a loss, but with a measure of luck the evening had already been decided for him. A message had arrived at his door, asking him to dinner, and as a single male he was never one to turn down a free meal. He cleaned himself up as well as he could at such short notice and threw on a simple shirt and simple pants - at the very least looking presentable, if not a little disheveled.

He stood staring up at the western watchtower when she emerged from the forest with her collection of small prey. His ears twitched to the sound of her approach and he turned around, sharp glacier blues settled on her face as a small smile spread upon his maw. "Ah, good evenin' Apprentice." He greeted, and his gaze lowered to her catch before it returned to her face. "Am I too early?"

Calla Valentine000
ooc goes here

She didn't entertain a lot of guests at her home, especially now that she was mated to Till and Helena who both took quite a bit of her free time when she wasn't out undertaking her responsibilities and providing the pack with what she could. She was no huntsman and the meal she meant to prepare was a mixture of small game and what had been offered to her by Till through one of his own hunts. She was not used to the taste of venison or the more gamy meats but she was masterful about cooking them, even though she also liked the taste of raw meat when she was able to have it.

Raw meat tasted better in the winter, though, at least in her opinion when there was no fear of it going bad if one did not cook it, dry it out or further prepare it in a way that would allow for storage, or even eat it right away.

When she finally broke through the bramble and bushes that led to her home, it was not without a number of squirrels, raccoons and even one or two other small creatures that had found their way into her traps. She did not expect anyone so early so it was a surprise when Duncan, and she only knew his name by hearsay and brief interactions before, could be seen standing outside of her home, staring up at what she had done to it during the brief time of her living here. She always enjoyed making a home of a place that did not feel like one when she first arrived and she had done well for this one.

Off to their side, she could hear Aube in the stall, eating at her own meal of the day. She couldn't hear much else other than the crackling flames inside and, of course, she could also hear the movement inside her home with the creaking of the stairs and the heavy horseplay that no doubt came from both of her children inside. "Evening, Confidant. You are, but only a little. I still need to clean what I've caught and prepare," she managed as she stepped close, wary of pushing her kills in the Confidant's face as she moved to tease the tip of her snout against either side of his cheeks.

"You can come in if you'd like. Only ones here at the moment are my children. I'm sure Till nor Helena would mind."
