Muahaha~ [ 450 ]

Kratos snorted as he backed up defiantly from the quicksilver femme, his stark white mane shaken as he angled his head at her as if he was going to charge. Vesta simply bared her teeth at the young stallion and put her arms out to the side as if to beckon him to charge at her, to just try and trample her, and it was enough to calm the animated horse down enough that she caught his loose reins in her hand. With a too firm yank she brought him around and led him back to his master, who had been watching the pair with his arms crossed against his chest, evidently displeased.

"What?" She snapped as she practically threw the reins at him, Scorpius caught it easily in one hand. "He wont listen to me. He knows I hate him." Kratos snorted again as if in agreement, but it was merely coincidence, though Vesta retaliated with a snarl regardless. A thunderous growl erupted from the Beast and the Banshee relented, stepping past him to lean against the house with an all too exaggerated sigh of exasperation.

Scorpius approached the rebellious stallion and reached a hand to gently stroke his neck. The horse leaned its head down appreciatively and nickered softly, a definitive change in behavior now that he had a master at his reins. Red eyes looked the horse over for a moment, assessing his muscular frame. He had a lean but strong build that suggested he would be good at both long distance travel as well as short bursts of speed, but he wanted to see how good he was with a rider first and foremost.

The horse was much too small for him to ride and though Vesta would have been perfect, her intense personality clashed with the equally fiery horse's nature. Serene would have been the next best choice but her first encounter with the brazen stallion did not go well and as a result she chose to give the new horse a wide berth, if only just to avoid another scare until he developed better manners. Fortunately for them all though, there were other options.

All ears twitched to the sound of approaching footfall; their visitor was right on time. The young Kaiser femme had proven to be a worthwhile pupil and her first riding lesson with the Jagermeister had gone well. She seemed eager to learn more and Scorpius was willing to teach, so when the invitation came to have another lesson, it was not a hard decision to make. Little did she know it wouldn't be with the dumb and docile Ignis and it would not be as easy as it was before.

Yay horse lessons for Kamari! Noooo, horse lessons with Kratos xDDD

Kamari is wearing something similar to this (minus the armor and shoes)

She had been excited. She always was when she went to learn about how to ride and work with horses with the Jagermeister. Ever since her first sparring lesson with the dark male and the silver fighter, the low-born had apparently proven something of her worth for the D’Angelo to let her continue to come around. The experience was like none other, being able to work with the man and his group of companions, a taste of a world she and her family had never known.

Her parents were too poor to own any horses of their own, any livestock, really. Their upkeep was not something the mated pair had time to spare for between duties and putting food on the table and putting warm clothes on their family’s backs. In all honesty, Kamari had been rather lucky that her father had been able to bring her the two kittens last spring. The felines’ resourcefulness and ability to catch food on their own had been the only reason they had been allowed to stay.

So, needless to say, the Kaiser found a unique liking to the hoofed beasts that she would never have for her own.

Kamari had dressed appropriately for the lesson she was to have with the Jagermeister, a long-sleeve tunic, a vest, and some pants that would keep her warm once her cloak was shed. With her too, she’d brought along some furs for the ever-growing children of Scorpius and his wife, Serene. While not of the same quality and care as something her more experienced father might have made, the furs were still useable and pretty. If nothing else, the poison master could trade them for something of better worth.

The man was easy to spot with his hulking figure against a canvas of white. He stood next to the corral that held his horses, the little herd complete with the newest edition that Vesta had purchased during their Portland escort two months prior. She moved towards the Beast quickly, not wanting to make him wait. Once within conversation distance, she greeted him politely, Ciao, Jagermeister.” Her eyes shifted past him to the brooding Vesta. “Hey, Vesta!” She wagged the tip of her tail at the sight of her usual sparring partner.

Returning her gaze to Scorpius, she held up the neatly wrapped bundle of furs to his much taller form. “I brought some furs for Sidious and Senua.” It wasn’t much, but, for her, it was all that she could truly offer in “thank you” for him giving her riding lessons.

Sorry for the slooow~<3 [ 476 ]

The Beast regarded her attire momentarily as the young femme closed the distance between them, his gaze lowering to the gate as he beckoned her to enter with a motion of his head. Her greeting was reciprocated with a more cordial dip of his maw but as usual he remained within stoic silence for now, though Vesta brightened a little at the sight of her sparring pupil.

"Hey pup." The Banshee hailed through a small smile as she cocked her head in a lazy greeting. Though Kamari was far from being a pup anymore the joking little nickname had stuck; that and kid, kiddo, whelp, pretty much every sort of moniker the opposite of a proper adult. She didn't seem bothered by it though, or at the very least didn't show it.

Red eyes lowered to the bundle as it was raised up in offering before a leather-wrapped hand rose to pluck it from her extended hands. Curious, Scorpius unwrapped it a little to peek inside where he found a thick plush lynx pelt and an equally winter prime red fox. The flesh was prepped well enough but had the telltale nicks and cut marks from a novice skinner, overall though, they were good furs in good condition.

He made a sound the young femme by now would have known was approving and handed the bundle off to Vesta, who disappeared into the house for a moment and then returned without it, though a cheery little noise from within the cabin was enough evidence that Serene had taken possession of the gifts. She seemed pleased despite how distant and muffled the sound was.

"Our thanks." Was all Scorpius had to say to punctuate the matter before he turned his attention to Kratos, who all the while had been sniffing at the young femme, her appearance and scent familiar to him. "You remember Kratos, yes? Sidious chose his name from a book of old myths and legends his mother has been reading him." His flews twitched a little at that statement. He didn't like Serene filling the young male's head with nonsense, but he didn't stop her either, since at the very least it bolstered his imagination and creativity. It would serve him well when he was older.

"We will be working with Kratos today, if you are willing." The Jagermeister brought his gaze back to the young Kaiser after regarding Kratos for a moment, his eyes reading her features. Vesta stepped closer and stood near Scorpius's side, smirking slightly as she motioned toward Kratos with a shift of her shoulders. "Ya don' have t'say yes. He's an asshole." She hissed the last word through her teeth with emphasis and summoned a snort from Kratos. He could sense her aggression toward him and returned it very willingly. This was something Scorpius was hoping to correct, slowly but surely.

With any other, the nicknames that Vesta used with her might have been treated as insulting. She knew herself to be small and young, but often tried to prove herself capable despite such obvious observations. Their relationship made it work though, as sparring partners, as mentor-and-student, and—secretly in Kamari’s eyes—as older to younger sibling. The jackal grinned at the silver woman before her attention was placed elsewhere.

Scorpius took the offered bundle, and the Kaiser waited in anxious silence to try to gauge what he thought of her—not her father’s—gifts for his children. The creatures had been hard to catch, and had been nerve-wracking to skin without the fear of messing up the pelts completely. Proud, she had been though, and it made her confidence swell a bit to hear the Jaegermeister’s approval, and then to further hear Serene’s muffled one as Vesta took the gift inside the cabin.

Her tail wagged, and she nodded acceptingly of Scorpius’ verbal gratitude towards her. “It’s the least I could do for giving me lessons.” Cornflower blue eyes shifted to the dark stallion that had returned with Vesta from Portland. The Beast’s son had apparently named it since their return, a handsome name, even if Kamari knew not of the origins that Scorpius alluded to. “I remember him,” she confirmed with a nod.

Kamari’s gaze shifted back to the poison master when he explained his purpose for pointing out the horse to her. Vesta came to join them then, offering her thoughts on the creature. It was apparent from her words and the horse’s reaction to them that the two did not appear to think much of the other. Despite the Banshee’s warning though, Kamari refused to be discouraged.

It would be just another test, a challenge that needed conquering. She would not let worry or fear keep her from doing something. “What do you wish me to do?” Kamari asked, confidence in her eyes. Ride or lead him, likely, given the gear that had already fitted upon the stallion.

The young Kaiser seemed undaunted, even in spite of Vesta's best efforts to perturb her. Kratos was a force to be reckoned with and though he had already proved he was a fast and eager learner, capable of retaining what he was taught, there was still a wild streak in him that needed to be curbed. The strong steed was acquired for Scorpius's son, who so far knew nothing of riding horses and when the time came would be taught everything the Beast knew, but a good rider was only as good as his horse.

"I would like to see his manners with a rider." Scorpius explained simply. When Kratos was purchased, Vesta was assured the young stallion was rider trained, but he had been too stubborn and aggressive to give her a chance at testing him. He knew his groundwork well in the hands of the Jagermeister and complied easily with all verbal and visual commands. Yet whenever Vesta attempted to ride him, she was met with the same unruly behavior.

A leather-wrapped hand extended as he sidestepped a little to allow Kamari to step closer so he could help her onto Kratos's back. The stallion was tacked lightly with a blanket and hackamore, enough to ride him for a short while without discomfort for either of them. Kratos shook his mane eagerly but showed no measure of aggression, even as Vesta stepped past him to offer her help from the other side.

Kamari's first lesson with Scorpius had laid in the groundwork and her first attempt at riding was more Ignis walking around than it was her leading him. Now was her chance to really put her training to work. Once she was settled Scorpius pulled the reins over Kratos's head and both he and Vesta stepped back, though not too far away in case the dark horse decided to do something reckless.

After a moment's pause, Scorpius nodded to Kamari. "Forward."

She nodded in understanding to what Scorpius had in mind for both her lesson and the horse’s training for that day. From how Vesta had reacted towards the young stallion, the Kaiser could guess that Scorpius had not had much luck with going down that route. Kratos did not seem all too impressed with Vesta, and the Banshee seemed to think quite lowly of the troublesome steed. The observation made the youth curious as to how the stallion would behave with her now that it had gotten comfortable with hiss new home.

Hopefully, the thing wouldn’t try to buck her off or trample her.

Her cornflower blue eyes shifted to Kratos as she stepped forward, accepting whatever challenge the horse might have in mind for her. With Scorpius’ and Vesta’s help, the jackal hybrid was able to mount up. She positioned herself a comfortably as she could for the both of them, reaching out to tentatively pat the stallion on his powerful neck in an effort to get it used to her weight burdened upon his back.

The reins were given to her next, and then both adults stepped back to give the two some room. Nothing happened, thankfully, and the poison master saw this as fitting enough to move on. At his command, Kamari offered a shallow nod. She made a few clicks through her teeth, applying a small amount of pressure with her thighs to indicate that she wanted the stallion to move. This, the horse did easily enough. However, it was after some delay, and the young mount eventually began to veer off.

Kamari tried to correct this, making a sharp, “Ah ah!” sound as she tugged his reins in the opposite direction of where the horse was trying to wander off too. Kratos tossed his head before stubbornly trying to continue with what he had been doing. The Kaiser pulled a bit more firmly, causing the stallion to stop and shake his head more upon being denied what he wanted to do.

It was harder, to give commands from horseback rather than being on the ground next to them. Kamari couldn’t apply some of the techniques that Scorpius had taught her because of her positioning. She couldn’t make use of the same pressure points in the manner needed, and hoped that her decisions with the reins now were the correct ones.

The gentle squeeze was enough to get Kratos going and all seemed well until the horse decided to take command of the situation. Kamari's attempts at correcting him had the stallion weaving this way and that and made Vesta more than once have to circle around to keep close to Kratos's left side as Scorpius observed from a comfortable distance. The stallion was testing his rider. If he really didn't want her on him he would have done everything in his power to unseat her, but instead his rather lackadaisical disregard for her commands was more a challenge than a threat.

This, strange as it seemed, was a good sign.

"Head up. Back straight. Shoulders square." The Jagermeister reminded with a motion of his hand in the direction he wanted Kamari to take the horse. Once around the corral in a nice big circle. "And relax. Eyes forward." She was a bit stiff, no doubt a little nervous as well, but that was fine. Her confidence would grow with time and practice. "You're doin' great!" Vesta cheered as she backpedaled to Scorpius's side - confident Kamari would be alright without her closeby - and offered the Beast a knowing glance before returning her focus to their shared pupil.

Kratos snorted at a sudden tug on his reins to correct another tangent off the path he was intended to go. Instead of turning though, he stopped, and gave his pale mane a little shake of protest. Scorpius narrowed his gaze a little and looked from horse to rider and back again - it took only a brief moment for him to deduce what happened. "Left rein left. Right rein right. Pulling on both will just make him stop." The Beast raised a hand and encouraged her to continue around the corral. "Once more."

The Beast’s deep voice caused Kamari to straighten instantly at his reminders of what he had taught her before upon riding Ignis for her first few lessons. She was definitely nervous, partially because it was something new, partially because of her teacher being who he was. While the dark male had been kind enough to give her lessons, she would not soon forget his standing in the Kingdom, nor his brusque nature.

Glancing back at him, she saw him indicate how he wanted her to move. He seemed to notice her stiff stature, and, at his command, she let out an embarrassed breath and nodded. Returning her gaze to where her mount was headed, she tugged on Kratos’ reins in the direction she wanted him to go. Vesta’s words of encouragement helped boost the Kaiser’s confidence in her abilities to ride the stubborn stallion, even when he refused to follow her commands.

When Kratos stopped entirely, Kamari’s thoughts were filled with the options she had and what the likely outcome would be with how the dark horse had reacted to her thus far. Scorpius was quick to bring about a solution to her dilemma though, and Kamari nodded appreciatively. “Yes, Jagermeister.”

Trying again, the Kaiser applied pressure to Kratos’ sides, urging him to move forward once more. After a bit, she tugged with even pressure on his left rein, and, while he did not immediately heed her, the horse did gradually turn left. It was wide and slow, but, he had obeyed nonetheless. Such was cause for a brief moment of excitement from Kamari, and she reached with her opposite hand to gently pat the horse’s neck to show her appreciation for his cooperation.

A wide grin spread across her lips as Kratos walked the circle, just as Scorpius had wanted from them. Once they had reached their starting point, Kamari applied pressure to both reins at the same time, naturally leaning back and squeezing the horse’s sides with her thighs. Kratos seemed to respond to the command well, though, his stop was more abrupt than Kamari had intended. She had to counterbalance herself, and Kratos merely snorted and flicked his tail.

Not quite what Kamari had had in mind, but, she had gotten the outcome she had wanted all the same. Her eyes turned to Scorpius and Vesta. “How was that?”

We can wrap this up here or with one more of yours if you want~<3 [ 350 ]

With his instructions in mind Kamari tried again and Scorpius watched both rider and horse closely to see if his words had stuck. She took Kratos down along the fence line easily enough and when it came time to turn she manipulated the reins correctly which, more or less, turned him in the right direction. Albeit a slow wide turn that didn't seem like much effort on the horse's part.

Either way, a win was a win, and the young Kaiser seemed more than delighted to have completed the task she was charged with as she brought the stallion back around and pulled him to a halt near the Jagermeister and his former ward. Vesta smiled a wicked smile she only ever had around the jackal hybrid and approached the horse, carefully, though by now he was ready to be rid of his rider and let loose on his own, so he didn't mind having her nearby. "You're gettin' good. Gonna have t' find you a horse of your own soon."

Scorpius made an approving sound.

"Well done." Always laconic and to the point the Beast moved forward and each luperci stood to either side as they did before to help Kamari off the horse. Once unburdened, Vesta pulled the blanket from the stallion's back and slipped the hackamore off his head, a swift snort and a shake all the gratitude she was going to get. Scorpius brought his gaze back to Kamari, his features emotionless though placid, even a little pleased. "Next time we will try something a little more advanced."

A cheery sound came from the house and Serene popped her head from the doorway, calling out something about drinks and snacks and getting out of the sun. A delicious smell wafted out from inside the cabin and it was enough to entice Vesta to go inside. Scorpius gave Kratos a pat on the shoulder before a firm push coaxed him to wander away and the Beast motioned Kamari to join them with a tilt of his head as he turned and made his way toward the cabin.
