There was destruction on the breeze in the Dampwoods, coming down from the north. The smells of fire and blood tainted the air in a very subtle way, but it hinted at something that she couldn’t ignore. Lithia edged Anathema’s borders, finding them breached with familiar and unfamiliar scents alike, trampled, and within them, the breeze carried the scents of destruction. Lithia’s only intention for coming this way was to hunt, but those kinds of smells brought much more to her attention. Kentaro had been here… but what had become of that? What ever became of anything once Kentaro returned?

Lithia snorted, pushing her old feelings for him away. They had been rejected in the crudest way anyway; she didn’t know why she still hung onto them as desperately as she did. Knelt at Anathema’s border, taking in the scent of old and new, conflict and possible resolution, Lithia tried to collect as much information from the scents as possible. Salvia would want to hear about this, had someone not beat her to it already. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad if she breached the borders with a lie on her lips that said she was only doing so to ensure her old family was alright?

Lithia threw her head back and howled, falling silent after to listen with a pointed ear. She stared down at the ground and focused on her hearing, trying to pick up any signs, any signals that told her that Anathema was in trouble, or worse, it was no more.

The war raged on, drawn out by Kentaro's warriors lack of dedication to battle. They attacked in groups, and fled before things got too rough. They were cowards, all one in the same with his own father. It was a smart tactic though. They were chipping away slowly at Anathema's forces, weakening them each time they clashed. It was frustrating. The poison had helped largely with that, although Greed could slowly feel it leaving his body day by day. Soon, the Anathemans would make their final push that would decide the fate of their pack, or whatever was left of it.

Steel grazed against steel, creating a melody only a warrior could appreciate. The Anatheman prince managed to pick off one of Kentaro's warriors. It was the little one that had almost aided Eunice in his demise, if Iorek hadn't come to the rescue. She had a wild rage in her that could only be quelled by the spilling of blood. Greed saw exactly why his father had chosen her to march in his army. She held that same chaotic essence that Kentaro let rule his entire life. Anya was fast, wielding her rapier expertly. Greed used Enenra, its' wider blade handy for blocking her advances. They danced for some time, Anya having nicked him a few times, but nothing that would wear him down any more than he already was. He was fed up.

Greed pushed forward with all his strength, their swords battling for power over the other. A yell exited his lips, teeth parting to reveal porcelain daggers lined with spittle. She yelled back as he pushed, slowly overpowering her. Finally, with one last step, he knocked her backwards, and then advanced with another mighty roar. The umber king stood over her, body heaving from exerting himself. He knelt down before her, baring his amber gaze down onto her as away of asserting his dominance. You could die right here Anya, and Kentaro wouldn't even miss you. He wouldn't even bat an eye. Greed hissed, a growl bubbling from between angry jaws. Shut up! The smaller canine yelled, jabbing his rapier up at Greed as she rolled away. Greed grunted as yet again, her sword grazed his flesh. At that moment, a familiar voice was carried to his ears atop the death, ash, and blood in the wind. Lithia.

Anya rushed him again, but he was quick to knock her sword back and force it from her grasp. Greed stepped forward, clenching his free hand into a fist as he roared in her direction. His speed picked up as he approached her, his growls growing deafening. She dare not mess with him anymore. Instead, she fled, as he thought she would. Once she was gone, Greed carried himself in the direction of that beautiful song. Lithia was at the border, hesitant for some reason to cross it. Anathema was already in ruins. Lithia. You always pick the best time to show up. He couldn't help but crack a smile upon seeing her, drawing comfort from her unscathed and fresh smelling form. At the same time, he could feel the knot in his throat as he stood before his dying pack. He would have never wished her to see him like this, or Anathema like this.

There were sounds in the distance. Grunts, screams. Sounds of battle, sounds of a fight. Lithia considered crossing into Anathema… but no matter how muddled, the border scents were still there. It wouldn’t be right for her to cross. She respected borders and avoided conflict… but it would be nice to take an inside snoop for herself. No information could give that to her – a personal account. And the thought had alluded her, but thinking of that now, she looked up at the raven that settled in the bare tree a few feet from her. Bekatu.

”Fly in there and tell me what you see. Don’t come back until you’ve got a good report.” She turned away from the bird in the tree, and looked forward as the creature took flight a disappeared over a forming figure in the distance. It was Greed.

Arms cross over the front of her and hands finding their way to her swords, she eyed Greed’s wounds, smelled the scent of blood – both his and someone else’s – on his coat, felt his tension drawing closer and closer. Despite his condition and the evident struggle of her old home, Greed always had something smart to say.

”This time was intentional. What the hell is going on here? The borders are all fogged, there’s fire and blood in the air. Kentaro is back around. As much as I hate to admit, that’s never a good sign,” she asked, concern clear in her voice, which might’ve been a first for Lithia as well. The girl was always so good at hiding everything from everyone. Not this time. ”Do you need assistance?” She took her hands away from her blades, but the offer still lingered in the air between them. She was offering. He better think about that long and hard.

Candy eyes looked him over and he was a tad ashamed, averting his gaze briefly. He tried so hard to avoid marking his body in proof that he'd spilled blood, that he'd been overcome, tainting his well kept form. On the same token, he was proud of his wounds that would become scars that signaled there was a story to be told. They meant he had fought. They meant he didn't give up when his pack and family needed him most.

Even in the midst of blood and fire, with chaos on the rise, Greed felt that subtle flutter in his gut when he saw her. It never failed. Lithia admitted to coming here on purpose. He guessed it was because she was nosy more than anything. But, as she spoke, there was an urgent tone in her voice, concern. She was actually worried was was becoming of Anathema? Maybe she was worried was was becoming of him. Greed huffed, and laughed sarcastically. It's a war Lithia. Greed spoke, his tone and expression growing grave.

My guess is he was planning this for a long time. He wants to end us. It was pain and simple. He was sure Lithia would understand. Kentaro could never be satiated by happiness and peace. He always dredged up trouble, drama, and chaos. He reveled in it and simply couldn't coexist peacefully on this earth without the thrill of madness. Lithia then offered for help, but before he could answer the sound of hooves on earth drew his attention away from her. Greed's head whipped back to where he came and from the clouded air came the figure riding atop one of the still surviving horses. Eunice of course. She'd made it her mission to see him dead by her hands, but had been unsuccessful yet.

Greed flashed a glance back at Lithia, and a smirk. I'm gonna say yes. When he turned back, Eunice was closing in on them, with her ax lowered and ready to make heads roll if she could. Weak prince. Your head will make a glorious gift for your father! Greed quickly drew Onryo as she neared them, her blade lifted and then swung down upon him with as much force as the brutish female could muster. He was able to deflect the blow with a deafening clang, but she would undoubtedly circle back around with a vengeance.

It’s a war. Yes, it certainly was. It saddened her a bit to see the fall of a kingdom she thought would stick around forever, even if she refused to acknowledge it after she left. To see its walls crumbling now set a nagging feeling in her belly that made her want to revoke those feelings of resentment toward Anathema and crush it all into a paper ball and throw it into the sea. She wanted to breach the borders and help, face Kentaro, and use all the training her mother had hammered into her brain to defeat the deranged coyote once and for all. But such was not her place anymore. Anathema wasn’t hers. Salsola was now, and if she helped Anathema, Salvia would want to know why. Heck, she would want to know why herself.

”But why? That makes no sense. He’d kill his own sons and daughters? The ones he reared proudly for a good chunk of his life?” Lithia shot back, but she was cut short by the sounds of hooves thundering down towards them. A woman atop a horse rode towards them. The smell of her, mixed with battle and blood, didn’t smell friendly, didn’t smell like Anathema except for the blood of her kin that dappled the woman’s coat. Her axe glinted in the remaining sunlight. Her horse looked fierce.

The woman closed in, reaching down to take a swipe at Greed. Lithia ordered the horse to throw her in Low Speech. The animal simply snorted in response, riding away with his rider to circle around. She’d command the horse a second time when Eunice came back around, jumping out of the way if the woman would come for her. The horse ignored her command. Throw the fucking woman, or I’m stabbing you. Nothing. Lithia reached down, pulling the dagger from her belt, and positioned in loosely in her hand. Thinking of her father’s training, even though this wasn’t a proper throwing knife, Lithia tossed it towards the animal. The stallion let out a panicked neigh, jolting off of its course at the piercing pain. The blade burrowed itself into the animal’s shoulder, just beside Eunice’s leg. The animal bucked, throwing a well-aimed chop down at Greed off by a lot. The woman tried to keep her hold on the steed, but eventually, she tumbled off of its back.

Once the woman was on their level and the horse bucked and kicked itself away from them, Lithia would unsheathe both swords and close in on their enemy.

”This should be no less than fun.” She positioned her swords as she assumed her fighting stance: one in the offensive, while the other in the defensive position.
