Rainbow Flowers, Rainbow Dreams

Iorek, Remus, Arthur, Aldora

The scouting group had brought back only grim news, the flowers had grown and their control over the mind was intense. After speaking to the herbalists of the pack and the small renascence group they had guessed that perhaps the flowers smell had something to do with their effect. How else would the effects get into their minds? It made perfect sense to the Lune, who was not a scholar. Armed with this information he had sent word out for volunteers to meet him in the town square at dawn.

Luca had no doubts about how dangerous this trip was going to be. The recon team had informed him that the flowers had grown since they had lost Veyra, and he was curious to see how tall they had grown since. So, under the advisement of the previous team’s research Luca came to meet the others prepared with rope and cloths tucked neatly in a deer hide bag attached to Ulrich.

The group traveled, some on horses and some on foot, until the sun was high in the sky. When in the distance Luca spotted the strange flowers dotting the coast in the distance. Pulling on the reins the Lune came to a halt. “Okay everyone we are almost there.” With haste he tied off his horse to a nearby tree and opening the sac to pull out the ropes and clothes. “Everyone should tie yourself to someone else for safety and if you need to cover your nose you can use one of these.” He passed out what everyone needed before beginning to tie a piece of clothe around his muzzle loosely for now. “Who wants the axes and who wants to get the torches going?” He asked, eyeing the group before him.

Stone and feather, move outside your head

If she had been a wolf of weaker countenance, she would not have come here again, not after what had happened before. But her mother was dead, and she was determined to do something about it. So when Luca had asked for volunteers to see about the flowers' destruction, she was one of the first to cast her name. It had been a week or more since her experience here with Arlen, and this time she was more fully prepared.

As unpleasant as it was, she had stuffed her mask full of horse manure, but only after twisting bits of cotton up her nostrils; to say she had lost her lack of scent was an understatement; this was truly horrific. But she knew it was her best defense, she did not want to be about to hurl herself off the cliff side as she had before, as her mother had done.

As the group neared the flowers, a rope was passed to tie off; she tied directly to her uncle. She knew that he understood her pain, and she now understood his all the more; they had both lost someone very close to them.

With the new precautions in place, Aldora did not feel as drained and drunk as she had the first time; the cotton and manure seemed to be doing the trick. When Luca asked about the axes and torches, Aldora raised her hand – The flowers are covered with terrible sap, she said, perhaps we should try to dig under the roots as best we can and light a fire there? It was a long shot but it was the best idea she could think of. These plants were horrendously strong and it seemed any attempt to bring them down was fruitless; she was just trying to think outside the box.

Brought along Merlin so everyone gets a buddy~ [ 308 ]

Merlin did not want to see the flowers again - not after what happened last time - but when Arthur jumped at the chance to try and destroy the heinous things, he wasn't about to let his reckless brother go without him. The two males took their horses and rode with the group in relative silence, which was rare, especially for Merlin, but there wasn't much mirth to be shared. The flowers had claimed not only the life of a Cavalier, but countless others, and it was of grave importance that they were terminated as soon as possible.

Once they came within a safe distance the Cavaliers dismounted and secured their horses. As the Lune spoke, the brothers listened intently as Arthur tied one end of a length of rope around his waist and Merlin secured the other end around his, leaving enough between them so they could comfortably move around. Next came cloth to cover their snouts. Both Knights shoved a little pinch of herbs in their nostrils before they carefully secured the cloth around their muzzles. The powerful scent of the herbs burned a little but it was a necessary discomfort. Better that than succumbing to the nectar and mindlessly wandering off a cliff.

Arthur took an ax and Merlin took a torch so they could easily work in tandem, one cutting and one burning. When Aldora spoke of tunneling under the plants, it was a farfeched idea that summoned a half-masked expression of bewilderment from each brother, but in the end it made sense. Chopping and burning away at the roots would kill the flowers the fastest, and at the same time no one could leap off a cliff when they were surrounded by earth, there was nowhere to go. Both Arthur and Merlin nodded their agreement silently, their makeshift masks too secure to speak.

The Knight boy rode atop the prized and trusted pinto stallion that had belonged to his late grandfather, one that he shared with his ginger furred brother, silently riding up at his father's side as they traveled, speaking when spoken to, but largely silent from the tension in the air that he felt as the Knight's approached what would very well be a threat to their livelihood, monster plants that had taken the life of a brainwashed Cavalier. The grey furred male, who was predominantly a well-studied herbalist and the spitting image of his father the Lune, felt that it was his duty to try and do something about the plants that were threatening their lives, even if no one else expected much of anything from him outwardly, the quiet young man had ambition.

They arrived near enough to the plants that they had come into view, and Remus gazed at them wide eyed. He had never seen anything like this in any of Kira's books or lectures, in any of his travels. Flowers towering the size of trees sat proudly along the cliff-side, alluring in their honeyed scent and deceptive in their concealment of certain death if one was to be drawn in by them. His fur bristled as the male's body sent him one signal; danger. Dismounting from Vito, the earthen colored Knight took his own cloth and rope from the Lune and produced a bit of sage from his bag, following suit of the others and stuffing a small bundle of the herb into each of his nostrils, a horribly uncomfortable and sobering sensation that made his eyes water when combined with the sharp scent of the herb, and gave his reply before he tied the cloth securely over his muzzle as well, "I'll take an ax." He offered up, finishing his mask before grabbing one of the heavy tools.

Tying the rope around his waist, the boy thought to offer the other end of it to his cousin Aldora, he did not say anything to her but silently hoped that since their reconciliation, having another tied to her might provide even the slightest bit of added security. He knew that she too now, had lost her mother, and he knew the kind of pain that could come with that experience, remembering the sight of his own mothers burned remains all too clearly.

I am not a stranger to the dark.
"Hide away," they say,
"We don't want your broken parts"

Iorek had a determined look on his face. They were here to destroy the flowers and he was prepared to try to rip them out of the ground if he had to. He had been a part of the first team that had been sent to the flowers. Luckily, they had returned since Iorek gathered his senses after hallucinating about his mother. Casa di Cavalieri had lost a pack member to these flowers and the smell of the flowers made his snout wrinkle. The wiolfdog associated the scent with death.

There was a quiet, calm, yet furious anger in the massive medic's eyes as the group stopped, but he stole one more look at the deathly flowers. Those flowers found their way onto his bad side, which had only housed one entity. But, the anger he felt wasn't the same. Now he could do something to try to rid the world of their unwanted presence, and being a part of a destroying team for the flowers was satisfaction enough. The feral nurse turned back as Luca called them together.

The brown behemoth padded forwards and plucked a cloth from the bag and tied it around his face. He tied himself to someone else by wrapping the rope around his waist. He wasn't sure which he would use to destroy the flowers, being unfamilar with both axes and torches. He had considered using his claws to rip into the flowers but he wasn't sure if he would be weakened even more by the plants' lure. Finally, he picked an axe from the pile, obviously unused to the feeling though the weight was unnoticeable to the scarlet-eyed giant.

The oversized healer nodded as he heard Aldora's plan to dig it and burn it from there. He would volunteer to help dig since he trusted himself with digging more than cutting, but it would be more satisfying to rip into the flowers. He was unsure of what he'd do, but he was prepared to do anything to destroy the flowers. The feral male spoke up, I-I c-could h-help w-with th-the d-digging,.

Before the group set out, the vermilion-eyed Valiant turned to everyone, calm determination burning in his eyes. He had been on the first team and had noticed things. Th-The flowers will c-cause you t-to hallucinate. I-If it seems t-to good to be true, i-it's probably n-not. Focus o-on something, s-something that you w-want t-to go home to. Focus on th-th real things. The crimson-eyed Cavalier then waited for the group to start towards the flowers.

So sorry for the wait! Will be more prompt next round
I made it ambiguous as to who Iorek tied himself to

The Lune was concerned for the well being of his pack. The flowers growing along the coasts were too close for comfort and dared to threaten his vulnerable members. Much thanks to the scouts before this mission he knew just enough to hope for some amount of security approaching the very exotic plants, but he did not trust in potentially false hopes. His heart pumped in his chest, adrenaline flowing through his veins as they made their plans on how to best approach the destruction. The Lune would not allow any of his volunteers to come to harm, at the first sight of someone losing their senses they would be pulled away. Veyra’s loss was hard enough on his family, and four of the five members who had come with him today shared his blood.

Arthur and Remus each took an ax, while Merlin picked up a torch. The last of Jazper’s brood agreed quickly with Aldora’s plan, and Luca nodded along as well. “Sounds good. Merlin and I will mind the torches, Arthur and Remus see what damage you can do from above while Aldora and Iorek make us a clear path to the roots.” He divided the roles out with a natural tone of leadership. Tying himself off to the rope wrapped around the Valiant’s waist he quickly reached into a near by pack, pulling out some flint. Motioning for Merlin to come close he handed him the second torch, clicking the flint together until both torches were eventually lit. “Careful now. Don’t let the wind catch it too much.” He spoke to his uncle. Turning to the group he gave one last talk, “Okay folks, stick with the group, keep an eye on your buddy, and keep your senses about you. If you notice your buddy acting strange in anyway do not be stupid, get them back to here and we will meet up with you after. Lets go!” So began the march into danger.

Stone and feather, move outside your head

She was somewhat surprised that the rest of the group agreed that her plan was worth trying out; she was (besides Remus) the youngest and least experienced here; maybe the flower was clouding their judgement.

But away they went, her great uncle Arthur and her cousin Remus quick to pick up axes, while Merlin grabbed a torch. She and Iorek got to digging; the rope affording her just enough slack to kneel and really get into the task. The ground was soft but interlaced with rocks; after a while her hands began to ache. But she and Iorek made good progress quickly, especially the Valiant, who’s paws were twice the size of hers.

After a good ten minutes work, a large cavern had been dug underneath the flower, but it was clear that they were dealing with more than they had bargained for. Instead of the roots lacing out and becoming thin and fragile like most plants, it was almost if the flower was thicker underground than the part exposed to the sun. The roots were thickly coated with the horrible sap, and the earth turned to sticky muck because of it. Regardless, there was definitely enough room here to light a fire under the main stalk. Aldora turned her purple gaze to her uncle, who suddenly seemed other worldly in the sunlight. She shook her head and tried to focus.

Feeling a bit woozy, she sat back on her haunches and focused on deep, slow breaths. The horse manure was still helping for the most part, but the buzzing in her head was present; it was like she was just waking up from a terrible sleep. Her gaze wandered to the edge of the cliff, but instead of the ecstasy she had felt the last time, all she felt now was sick.

Sorry for the slow~ [ 324 ]

Arthur took a moment to examine the ax he was holding as Merlin held his torch out for the Lune to light. The sparks caught quickly in the fuel sodden rag at the end of the long branch and within moments the small flame flared to life. The torch was quickly pulled back to shelter it from the gusting winds by the coast as Arthur ran the pad of his thumb over the edge of the ax blade; it needed a fair bit of sharpening but it would do for the task required of it.

With their tools at the ready and their roles decided, the team set out, approached a suitable plant for their experiment, and set to their tasks. Aldora and Iorek were quick to get a tunnel dug as Merlin and Luca set the sticky armor ablaze, the smell of burning sap almost pleasant as it mingled with the scent of freshly turned earth and flowery nectar. With a shake of his head Arthur cleared his mind swung his ax once the torchbearers were clear.

The wedge of metal connected hard with the charred trunk of the plant but hardly made a dent. Another couple of swings finally penetrated the thick fibrous material but the ax would go no further and the more they burned the more the plant produced sticky sap to replace it. It was quickly becoming a mess the more they tried, and after a few more rounds of burning and swinging, there was far too much sap to compete with.

Arthur backed off with another shake of his head, this time to signal his comrades it was no good. He motioned toward the hole and followed Merlin down to join the others, his gaze narrowed at where the plants thick roots were exposed, and the volumes of sap building up to protect them. It seemed whatever damage they did topside had affected the flower as a whole.

The grey furred Cavalier had finished wrapping his muzzle and he and Arthur took up their axes, the others in the group manning torches and working away at the roots of the alien plants. The first couple chops into the thick stem of the flower were met with a normal amount of resistance, he would have to pull the blade of the ax loose as he would with any other tree, yet as he went, the blade of the ax became burdened by a thick slippery golden amber sap that sucked the metal into it as if he was trying to pull his foot free of a deep mud puddle. It was sickening both in appearance and sensation, and somehow through the sharp scent of sage, another scent was reaching him, clouding his mind just a bit and making the young man dizzy enough that he would have to shake his head to clear it a few times.

As time went on and the team worked, each of them quickly came to the realization that their task was futile, and that they were making next to no progress on the one plant, never mind the hundreds of them that dotted the coastline cliffs in their sickly sweetness. The logic of the wolf dictated that he stay and work, yet something within him was pulling his attention towards the cliffs, as if the answer lay just through the canopy of towering flowers, but the feel of the rope around his waist brought the Knight back down to reality. He was somewhat disturbed by the force of the draw, somewhat sickened by all the powerful scents swirling around in his burning nostrils.

When it became apparent that the flower would not be cut down, or dug up, or burned away, the earthen cavalier took a step back away from it, claws biting into the pads of his own paws to keep himself alert. "Tch." The grey wolf mix made a disgruntled sound, not really able to speak with a rag tied around his muzzle, but the meaning behind the sound would come through nonetheless, the others undoubtedly feeling something similar to himself about the situation.
