Aelcrest Shore

POSTED: Sat Jun 02, 2018 10:01 am

He had only been back for a comparatively short period of time and already Diego had already gotten himself in a great deal of trouble. Or, rather, it was his coati who had gotten him into trouble. It wasn't the first time that Hocico and his sticky paws had caused grief for him, and it certainly wouldn't be the last, but why did it have to be a necklace and why did it have to be from Magpie, of all the coyotes in Inferni! Like him, the girl had an eye for flashy things, and he knew that he would need to find something just as shiny in order to placate her.

So, sullen, but determined, Diego slipped out of Inferni with one goal in mind: to steal something that would keep Magpie from having something to hold over him.

True to his culture and beliefs, the former Cenizan had dutifully applied his ash markings before embarking on his quest. They would provide him just the luck that he would need in order to appease his clan mate, while also offering him the dexterity and speed he would need to make it back home successfully.

As he traversed, scouting for unsuspecting loners or travelers far from the safety of their home, Diego thought about the matter of Paninya. She said that he owed her, too, though the Tirones argued that. Neither he nor his pet had stolen anything from her! Besides that, as far as he was concerned, that little brat owed him for putting up with her! Hell no, he would not be stealing anything for her. She could steal something herself.

The sound of something stopped him abruptly in his tracks and, casting fiery eyes about, Diego sought the source of the noise with a thrill of hope in his heart.

OOC: I'm looking for someone to be the victim of a theft! Diego needs to steal something shiny to repay someone for something that his coati swiped. Plot twist: Diego is a lousy thief, so he's sure to get caught, but I'd prefer for him to be more or less successful. :)

Auspicium walked calmly, making his way through the territory he knew as "Aelcrest Shore". The place was relatively calm if you managed to ignore the wild waves that crashed fiercely into the rocks of the shoreline, but it wasn't like Auspicium was planning to go anywhere near the water.

The silvery secui looked weakened, his days without a proper meal clearly leaving a mark on his body. His hair was tangled and covered in a mixture of mud and dried blood, his left ear was scarred, and his skin covered his bones closely, exposing them to the world. Yet he kept walking confidently as if nothing was wrong, followed closely by his crow Heister. In his mouth he carried yet another stolen necklace, golden and shiny, with a pendant that showed off some sort of translucent rock many luperci coveted. He had stolen it from a frail lady (who, by the way, looked like she had taken good care of the item), she had been terrified and didn't stand a chance against Auspicium, even though he was weak and hungry. It had been an easy steal, all he did was push the lady into the ground and order her to give him the necklace, his hunger drove an explosive fierceness he otherwise didn't have.

The wolf's plan, for now, was to head toward Amherst and trade in the luxurious accessory for food. His mouth watered at the thought of what he could get in return for the necklace, by the looks of it he could be getting a whole, fresh deer if he traded it with two-legged, naturally greedy luperci. He continued walking, it would be a long way to Amherst, but the thought of a decent meal kept him moving, at least he didn't have to worry about an angry canine chasing him over the stolen necklace.

Heister soon threw two caws at Auspicium, which in corvid low-speech warned the wolf about another canine being nearby. The secui instinctively looked for the nearest bushes to hide, he didn't wish to be near other luperci at the moment.

The familiar croak of a corvid sounded overhead and it was this that gave Diego pause. Lifting his gaze, the coyote searched for the bird but found only open sky. Flicking a large ear, the coyote lowered his head and felt disappointment settle in. He had no interest in crows. Crows didn't have valuables. There was nothing he could steal from a crow. Blinking, Diego amended his thoughts: except for scavenged meat, which was decidedly not what Magpie had in mind for him to steal. In fact, the idea of coming back to Inferni and presenting the spirited woman with the leg of some long-dead creature gave him a tickle of fear.

Diego felt positive that Magpie would be furious with him

Giving his ruff a quick shake, the coyote pressed on. He hadn't bothered to shift out of his Optime form after he had applied his ash markings. He moved less quickly on two legs than he did on four, but Diego wasn't in much of a hurry. He had a very specific idea about what he thought Magpie would want in exchange for the necklace that Hocico had stolen and he would take as long as he needed to find what he was searching for.

Again, Diego stopped, his dark nose twitching as the scent of something, no... someone, wafted toward him. Wolf, his senses told him, and he looked carefully about. Could this be his chance? Cautiously, the Infernian chose to follow the scent, hoping to catch the owner of it off-guard.

OOC: Thank you for joining me! Feel free to confront Diego or not, but let me know if it's okay that Diego finds him if you choose to keep Auspicium hidden. <3

Birds held a lot of value to Auspicium because if it wasn't for his crow Heister or his raven Serpent, his victims wouldn't be as easy to find, making his steals more complex. As the stranger his crow warned him about got closer, Heister joined him in his hiding spot, making a series of muffled caws once he landed, Auspicium couldn't recognize his words in low-speech.

The scent of coyote filled his nostrils, then Auspicium's gaze tried to focus in between the leaves to see who the stranger was. He soon spotted the stranger, the coyote was in optime form and had his fur covered in ashes, much like Auspicium with his mud and dried blood, but the stranger looked more sophisticated. The wolf expected the stranger to walk past him, but the coyote stopped, Auspicium noticed the twitch in his nose and saw how he looked around, making him slightly nervous. Auspicium suspected the coyote had noticed his scent and was looking for him, and as a preventive measure, he buried the shiny necklace on the ground, near the bushes' roots, unaware that part of the necklace was left unburied.

Auspicium emerged slowly from the bushes, taking a closer look at the coyote. The male didn't look like a scrutator in search for the stolen necklace, he looked more of like an explorer, curious about Auspicium's scent. The secui sat down calmly, and even though his usual introverted character and shyness were eating him on the inside, he gave the coyote a greeting nod. "Looking for anything?" He asked, "You have been sniffing around for quite a while..." He was surprised none of his words were lost in stutters and other nervous mannerisms. Auspicium felt confident the encounter would be over soon, so he could continue his trip to Amherst as soon as possible.

Movement caught his eye and Diego looked at the emerging figure sharply. He regarded the Secui wolf with some disappointment, seeing nothing on his person whatsoever, never mind anything worth stealing. Pinning back his large ears, the coyote pursed his lips but the figure nonetheless. Diego was a social creature and, species and status aside, he could scarcely pass up the opportunity to meet someone new.

"¿Cómo?" he replied, approaching the wolf cautiously. "I ain't lookin' for nothin', amigo." But as he stepped closer, the sunlight caught at something half-buried in the ground and Diego wondered if, just maybe, luck was on his side after all.

Diego lowered himself down to a squat, acting as though he was just trying to get comfortable when, really, the coyote wanted better leverage to make his move. "Dang, hombre, whatchu done to yourself? Ain't you seen yourself lately?" Diego gestured to the wolf's body, his eyes wandering over the mud and dried blood on is fur. He shuffled forward a little and held out one of his hands for the wolf to see the ash marking around his wrist. "You wanna mark yourself, you gotta use ash, amigo. See, streaks like this bring luck." He grinned. "Ain't you never heard of that before?"

Keeping the shiny spot on the ground in his periphery, Diego bided his time until the perfect opportunity to strike presented itself. "I could show you whatchu gotta do, if you want," he offered brightly, flicking his bushy tail. "But we gotta build a fire, so we'll need firewood. Whachu think?" With any luck, the wolf would agree and the moment they got up to start collecting firewood, Diego would snatch up whatever was in the ground and be gone before the stranger knew it.

OOC: If you're good with it, I'll have Diego make his move in my next post. :D

Auspicium examined the coyote more closely if it wasn't for the necklace he had just stolen, he would probably be looking for something to steal, too, but it wouldn't be convenient as of now. Perhaps he could wait and see if the stranger carried something valuable with him, then he would re-evaluate whether it was a wise choice or not.

The wolf didn't pay much attention to his appearance, he took it for granted that despite his calm personality, his appearance made him look somewhat intimidating. He didn't care about looking well-groomed and healthy, his prime concerns revolved around stealing and surviving, meaning looking good to strangers like the coyote was completely out of the picture. As the coyote lowered to a squat Auspicium wished he hadn't started the conversation, since he knew he would probably be stuck with the coyote for a good while.

The coyote talked about his ash markings, saying they brought "good luck". Completely forgetting about his stolen necklace, he frowned slightly at the mention of such a thing as "good luck". He didn't understand how the burnt remains of a tree applied to a specific section of fur would make his life better. The ashes wouldn't jump out of his fur to hunt or steal for him, or at least he doubted it, so he knew there was no way the coyote's superstition would work for him. The stranger then offered him to teach him how to do it. Taking a deep breath, at this point in his life, he had nothing left to lose. It sure wouldn't hurt him to try that out.

"I will ask you to be fast, I have somewhere else to go," Auspicium said as he started looking around for the firewood, not aware part of his stolen necklace was exposed, let alone notice the coyote had his eye on the piece. "I assume you will be the one to light the fire..."
